[Video] Maxïmo Park teilen neue Single "Favourite Songs"!
Ruckartige Riffs, flirrende Synthesizer und ein treibender Refrain katapultieren "Favourite Songs" an einen Ort kollektiver Freude, während Sängers Paul Smith beteuert: "All of our troubles will fade away".
“Our aim was to create a peppy yet powerful ode to the consolation of music and companionship in the face of other people's preconceptions”, ergänzt Smith.
Live:

08.11.24 Hamburg - Markthalle
11.11.24 Berlin - Metropol
13.11.24 München - Technikum

Maxïmo Park are today announcing details of a singles-only tour and one-off 7-inch single, featuring brand-new song ‘Great Art’.
As a band well-known for their album craft but equally beloved for their stand-out big-hitters, the Sïngular Tour is a rare chance to hear Maxïmo Park press play on the jukebox they’ve been meticulously curating over the last 18…

A Certain Trigger counts among the most formative albums of my entire lifetime but Maxïmo Park is like Geordie R.E.M. if Michael Stipe listened to Wire instead of The Byrds. And then only released one Murmur followed by successive iterations of Monster.*
*@unbornwhiskeyy courtesy footnote to clarify that I am using this analogy for bit legibility, naturally I am a Monster defender

Is this the great art you were hoping for?
While the emotionally numb waged a quiet war
Did you know it's not the eighties any more?
I've got a hundred new distractions banging at my door
It's hard not to hope that you will rot
The exception to the rule never meant that much to you
It's hard not to hope that you will rot
But "I will endeavour to be kind"
Is lodged in a crevice in the recesses of my mind

Queer books/movies/shows
Top 5 (x2) artists
I’m interpreting this as musical artists. I can sleazily split my music taste into two time periods: early 00s British white boy indie music from when I was a teenager.
Th Fratellis
Arctic Monkeys
Franz Ferdinand
Maxïmo Park
Kaiser Chiefs
Then a black hole of panic when I was learning to be an adult and parent in my 20s, then more recently I’ve been getting into a more girly hyper pop sort of thing.

Toast, forever and always my favourite
Doenjang-jjigae
The sticky toffee pudding from a specific restaurant in Llandudno

Board games
Baking
Top 6 queer media (2 tv, 2 books, 2 films)
Young Royals
Schitt’s Creek
The Wayfarer Series by Becky Chambers (it’s 4 books but I can’t choose just one. In fact, I’d also include her separate short story To Be Taught If Fortunate)
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Rocketman (not sure if this counts as queer media, but I’m not big on films and I’ve watched this over 20 times and will never be over it).

Thank you for giving my brain something to do today!

🎶 Hellaina and Vox @sinnerzforsaintz
@sinnerzforsaintz | 3-5 song playlist
Books From Boxes - Maxïmo Park
Night falls, and towns become circuit boards
We can beat the sun as long as we keep moving
From the air, stadium lights stand out like flares
And all I know is that you're sat here right next to me
Run For Cover - The Killers
What are you waiting for, a kiss or an apology?
You think by now you'd have an A in toxicology
It's hard to pack the car when all you do is shame us
It's even harder when the dirtbag's famous
Slide - Goo Goo Dolls
Could you whisper in my ear?
The things you wanna feel
I'd give you anything
To feel it comin'
Do you wake up on your own
Or wonder where you are?
And live with all your faults
Alone Together - Fall Out Boy
I don't know where you're going
But do you got room for one more troubled soul?
I don't know where I'm going
But I don't think I'm coming home
Hypnotic - Zella Day | Extra irony because I think Hellaina is immune to his hypnotism.
Wearin' your vintage T-shirt
Tied ribbons on your top hat, tellin' me I'm all that
Just like the girls from your hometown
Sweet-blooded and I'm stranded, see if I can stand it
Drinkin' in the shallow water
Magnetic everything about you

@godoflaundrybaskets tagged me in a game whose directions consist only of '10 songs' so i will list the first ten i think of (these could be ANYTHING, my ability to recall music on command is fantastically poor) and if i run out i'll shuffle my music library
'Miss Murder' by AFI. Earworm.
that one goddamn song with the baby that should've been washed in a jug (in a jug). 'Mother's Lament' as recorded by Cream.
song that was in my head all day? cannot remember what one it was lkajf;d i was singing it for hours
'Strawberry Fields' by the Beatles because my dad used to always sing it in the kitchen etc so it's high on my internal tape deck shuffle system
'Sandblasted and Set Free' by Maxïmo Park because my sister used to sing it to herself all the time for like two years, only i tend to accidentally sing it 'the earth is hollow you can pick it up' instead of 'the earth is solid you can dig it up.' She hates this.
Taps
'Where Is Love?' from Oliver! the musical because those long warbling notes are really useful to get my vocal cords unstuck when they swell up and also it's a boy soprano part which i find very funny to sing two octaves down idk why
'Lullabye' from the Peter Pan musical as sung by Mary Martin in the filmed version innnnnnn 1960 apparently, this is by association with the above number, adult woman playing a boy role but this number is sung in a not very boyish style
Happy Birthday. look i attended a birthday party earlier this week okay?
'Never Agreed' by Melissa Lee, which is about presumably-a-woman who isn't normally into guys falling in love with a man and everyone especially the other lgbts being massively fucking weird about it and the relationship collapsing under this, and who exactly decided an orientation was a binding contract. which when i casually described it as a song about bisexuality to someone i knew she was like 'no the singer is a lesbian >:C' and i was like oh i think the song is about you, actually. but only in my head. which made me remember the song a lot.
now ten people uhhhhhh
@brawltogethernow, @audreycritter, @vesperway, @curlicuecal, @cursed-angelic-art, @husborth, @ramblebrambleamble, @luciferapollyon, @kiragecko, @onwardmotley
