Happy Pub Day to Alexis Hall and the new additions to the London Calling universe! 🏳️‍🌈🇬🇧
10 Things That Never Happened is set in the same world as Boyfriend Material and Husband Material (eagle-eyed readers will remember Jonathan’s walk-on cameo in the latter).
While this story does not directly connect to Luc and Oliver, it gives us a new grumpy/sunshine pair to love: Jonathan and Sam. And boy are they up to shenanigans!
When a workplace injury leads to a faking amnesia, Sam’s about to discover there’s more to his grumpy boss than meets the eye…
A hoIiday romance? Definitely happening!

My interpretation of the Suit of Pentacles
Virtues
Generosity
Patience; Long-term Commitment
Security; a sense of safety
Practicality
Pathways to success
Vices
Hoarding
Misaligned / Unpurposeful action
Potential for loss
Ace of Pentacles - Abundance, Potential for Manifestation
You have the resources necessary to plant the seeds to grow something new. Put forth the time and effort necessary for your manifestation to flourish. Ask for what you want and allow for good things to come to you.
2 of Pentacles - Daily Affairs, Busyness, Balancing Act, Flexibility
This is a “juggling act” of the various hats you now wear. Taking on multiple roles at a time can be exhausting when you are unsure how to properly invest your energy. Good thing you have the systems, structures and boundaries in place to avoid burnout and self sabotage. Remember, it’s better to finish one task before you move on to the next. Try not to leave things in limbo.
3 of Pentacles - Teamwork, Synergy, Collaboration
It feels easier to work on a big project knowing you have peers who are just as invested as you are and who are willing to support you. The combination of your various skill sets allows for there to be a well rounded execution of the task. Plus, there is a sense of easygoingness and fun.
4 of Pentacles - Stability, Conservative, Control
You have a keen sense and control of the resources that are coming in and what resources are going out. This allows you to feel secure in the nest egg you have accumulated. Give yourself a pat on the back, and allow yourself to be generous with that which you have. Choose to be kind with your blessing and offer the same sense of security to others when you can.
5 of Pentacles - Misfortune, Loss, Sense of Abandonment
We all experience difficult times. One day you’re on top of the world and nothing can take you down. The next you are plumbing down the sides of Everest. This is a reminder that though you may feel lonely, you don't have to experience this alone. There are people who are willing to help support and uplift you with a promise of nothing in return, but you first must take accountability for how you got yourself there in the first place.
6 of Pentacles - Freely Giving + Graciously Receiving, Flow, Charity
There is enough to go around, and the best part about that: You don’t have to wait for a sense of security in order to give. Giving can be just as fulfilling as maintaining the nest egg. Know that all you put out comes back to you with equal or greater value. If you notice someone in need and you have something to offer, be generous enough to give. It is easier to accept the kindness and generosity of others when you know nothing is required in exchange for it.
7 of Pentacles - Investment, Patience, Reflection
Hard work and consistency pays off. Day 1 it was simply a seed in the ground. Today it is a tree in full bloom. This is a reminder that patience (time) + effort (investment) = results. Take the opportunity to see if these results are what you expected and if they have gotten you where you want to be.
8 of Pentacles - Hard work, Focus, Craftsmanship
You know exactly how you want to invest your resources and in doing so you find success. It may not be immediate, but keeping up with it will offer exponential results, similarly to compound interest. One day, your name attached to your craft will be priceless because you have put in the time and dedication to carving out a space for yourself to be recognized for your talents.
9 of Pentacles - Enjoyment, Fulfillment, Peace, Rest
You can now enjoy the fruits of your labor, and they are riper than you could imagine. Nothing feels better than to know your hard work has paid off to the point that you can confidently rest and your success will not falter. Take note of what has helped you along your path to success and then treat yourself. You deserve it.
10 of Pentacles - Wealth, Legacy, Communal Support
Your success is over-pouring. It has allowed for you to be secure enough to not only continue to pursue your endeavors, but assist others with their own. Giving back to your community can feel so fulfilling and can be another investment of yours. Allowing the fruits of your labor to contribute other craftsmanship and sense of security in others is what builds a legacy.
Page of Pentacles - Learning, Practical + Grounded Goals
She may be inexperienced, but she has a vision and she will pursue that vision with dedication and tact. The page is determined to gather the resources and knowledge necessary to build what she wants for herself. Forget daydreaming, she is eager to take action and she plans to have fun while doing it. What’s the point if it doesn't feel like an adventure?
Knight of Pentacles - Disciplined, Dependable
The Knight knows what he wants and is willing to put in the work to do it, aware of the result of his actions. He pursues ihs endeavors with the mindset, systems and discipline of a champion athlete. With that, success is inevitable.
Queen of Pentacles - Mother Earth, Nourishment
She is rich in resources and spirit. Those who are in the queens’ presences feel safe and know there is enough to go around. She is able to pour her love and support into them with ease because she has done what is necessary to feel taken care of herself. She has a keen act for balancing, remaining present with others and feeling present within herself.
King of Pentacles - Prosperity, Attainment, Status
The king assessed such an abundance of resources, all you need do is ask and he will bless you, but he must find you deserving of investing himself and his resources into. You cannot come to him as a begger and expect more than a handout. He can provide the superficiality of his resources or he can provide the wisdom that comes with a mentorship. Regardless, he is a provider who gains pleasure taking care of those around him.

Quote
I maintain that the human mystery is incredibly demeaned by scientific reductionism, with its claim in promissory materialism to account eventually for all of the spiritual world in terms of patterns of neuronal activity. This belief must be classed as a superstition. . . . we have to recognize that we are spiritual beings with souls existing in a spiritual world as well as material beings with bodies and brains existing in a material world.

Navigating the River of Enlightenment: A Journey through Herman Hesse's "Siddhartha: An Indian Tale"
Tumblr media
Herman Hesse's "Siddhartha: An Indian Tale" unfolds as a spiritual voyage, a philosophical exploration that transcends time and resonates with seekers across cultures and generations. Originally published in 1922, this timeless novel follows the transformative journey of Siddhartha, a young man in ancient India, as he seeks meaning and enlightenment. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of the historical Buddha's teachings, yet it remains a deeply personal and introspective account.
The story commences with Siddhartha, the son of a Brahmin, embarking on a quest for spiritual understanding. He rejects the traditional path set by his father and decides to explore life's meaning through personal experience. The novella is divided into parts, each encapsulating a phase in Siddhartha's odyssey—his time among ascetics, encounters with the material world, and eventual union with the river.
At its core, "Siddhartha" is a tale of self-discovery, self-realization, and the pursuit of enlightenment. Hesse weaves a narrative that explores the complexities of existence and the interconnectedness of life. Siddhartha's interactions with various characters, including his friend Govinda, the ascetic Samanas, and the courtesan Kamala, contribute to the novel's rich tapestry of wisdom and introspection.
One of the novella's notable strengths lies in its universal themes. Hesse's prose, translated elegantly into English, possesses a timeless quality that transcends cultural and temporal boundaries. Siddhartha's quest for meaning becomes a mirror through which readers can reflect on their own spiritual journeys, regardless of their background or beliefs.
The river, a central motif in the narrative, symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and the constant flow of time. Siddhartha's repeated visits to the river serve as a poignant metaphor for the human experience—ever-changing, yet eternally connected to a greater cosmic rhythm. The river becomes a silent witness to Siddhartha's evolution, mirroring the transformative power of introspection and the acceptance of life's impermanence.
Hesse's exploration of Eastern philosophy and spirituality is a hallmark of "Siddhartha." The novella introduces readers to concepts such as the interconnectedness of all life (samsara), the path to enlightenment (Nirvana), and the importance of finding one's own path (Dharma). Hesse deftly incorporates these principles into the narrative, providing readers with a window into the profundity of Eastern thought.
"Siddhartha" is a work that invites readers to engage in contemplation and self-reflection. Hesse's narrative style, characterized by its simplicity and clarity, allows readers to delve into profound philosophical ideas without feeling overwhelmed. The novella stands as a testament to the power of literature to inspire personal and spiritual growth.
In conclusion, "Siddhartha: An Indian Tale" is a timeless masterpiece that transcends cultural and philosophical boundaries. Herman Hesse's narrative, rich with wisdom and insight, invites readers on a journey of self-discovery alongside Siddhartha. The novel's enduring relevance lies in its ability to illuminate the universal quest for meaning and enlightenment, making it a must-read for those seeking contemplative literature that resonates across the ages.
Herman Hesse's "Siddhartha: An Indian Tale" is available in Amazon in paperback 10.99$ and hardcover 18.99$ editions.
