“The Hobbits of that quarter, the Eastfarthing, were rather large and heavy-legged, and they wore dwarf-boots in muddy weather.” ~ Prologue, Concerning Hobbits, The Fellowship of the Ring (Art: “Farmer Maggot” by MatejCadil on DeviantArt)

Smaug flying over the Lonely Mountain.🐉 Originally made for Inktobe2019 prompt "Dragon" and based on art of J. R. R. Tolkien himself: Several versions of an illustration depicting the Lonely Mountain with Smaug can be found in the excellent book "J.R.R. Tolkien - Artist & Illustrator" by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull. . While consciously mimicking Tolkien's style I decided to make my drawing at least slightly different by depicting a different part of the mountain: Whereas Tolkien drew the Front Gate, my picture shows the western dale with the hidden door higher up

Rec list: Views of Thargelion
Another in the series of re-posted rec lists compiled for B2MeM 2017.
A set of Silmarillion landscapes: Thargelion, said to be the most beautiful part of the lands of the Sons of Feanor, at the foot of the Ered Luin, where Caranthir dwelt by the shore of Lake Helevorn under the foot of Mount Rerir.
Links go to my Deviantart collection, because that’s how I compiled the list, although some of these artists are on Tumblr and I encourage you to seek them out.

The Ered luin (Blue Mountains ) where a Mountain range in Western Middle-Earth and divided the Elven Lands of Lindon from Eriador. During the First Age the Ered luin were much longer and had divided the subcontinent of Beleriand from Eriador and the rest of Middle-Earth. Two of the Dwarve fathers awoke in the Ered Luin during the Years of the Trees , and the Eldar crossed the Ered luin on the Great Journey. After the War of Wrath part of the Ered luin was drowned leaving it diminished. The Dwarves of the Ered luin lost their kingdoms and most would migrate to Khazad-dûm, and the Elves of Beleriand (Who did not journey to Valinor) would move to Lindon . Later some Sindar would migrate over the Ered luin. The Ered luin would later be the boundry between Lindon and Arnor, and then later between Lindon and Arthedain. Art by MatejCadil

“The three hobbit-families of Bagshot Row, adjoining the field, were intensely interested and generally envied. Old Gaffer Gamgee stopped even pretending to work in his garden. The tents began to go up.” ~ The Fellowship of the Ring, A Long-expected Party (Art: detail of “In the Garden of Bag End” by MatejCadil on DeviantArt)

“Inside Bag End, Bilbo and Gandalf were sitting at the open window of a small room looking out west on to the garden. The late afternoon was bright and peaceful. The flowers glowed red and golden: snap-dragons and sunflowers, and nasturtians trailing all over the turf walls and peeping in at the round windows.” ~ The Fellowship of the Ring, A Long-expected Party (Art: “In the Garden of Bag End” by MatejCadil on DeviantArt)

But soon [Isildur] departed, and after he had given counsel to Meneldil, his brother's son, and had committed to him the realm of the south, he bore away the Ring, to be an heirloom of his house... ~ The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power (Meneldil of Gondor by MatejCadil on deviantART) #Tolkien #RingsOfPower #isildur
