Tuesday September 12th

Today is my first day of in person classes for my master’s. I am so happy to be in the college today. So far it’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve enjoyed connecting with my professors and peers.

I have class this evening, so while I wait I’m working away in the formal lounge with a caramel iced coffee. What a wonderful start to the semester.

april 2nd, 2024.

today was supposed to be way more productive than it actually was, but from the get go I realized I had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed - i was so stressed out and irritated at anything and everything. still tried though: i did the dishes, cleaned up the house and got a bit of citations logged from Secchi’s Public Policies book. not enough productivity, not by far, but something is still better than nothing!

Interview Week

17 Oct 2023 | Currently watching Shetland and missing Glasgow and my friends

Next term I’m planning on doing an internship (it’s a part of my uni programme!) and October happens to be the month where most of these internships are applied for and arranged. I’ve sent applications to a few units within the Swedish Foreign Office, to some government units that deal with the EU and/or energy and a few other places like consulting agencies and interest groups that operate in Brussels.

So far, I’ve secured three interviews (!) which is such a relief. I was so worried I wasn’t going to get a single one because it felt like I was a bit late to the party, so to speak. I’ve been so busy with my thesis and life that I hadn’t realised it was time to send in applications. It was only a random thought I had that made me check my department’s internship notice board and thank god I had that random thought because I had already missed the deadline to a few internships. Thankfully, there was still time to apply to the ones I was the most interested in.

Today, I had an interview at the Foreign Office’s EU unit for foreign policy. It went well and the two interviewers were very nice. Fingers crossed! Tomorrow I have an interview at a consulting agency and on Thursday at the government’s office for coordination of EU matters. What I really really want is to intern at the Swedish permanent representation to the EU in Brussels though… I called them today to see what was happening and apparently the unit I’ve applied to is being slow :/ The HR person promised he would send them an email to hurry them along though.

My first semester of grad school is in the books.

Over the last 3.5 months I’ve written 70 pages, read 16 books, not including the hundreds of poems (or personal reading), and countless articles/essays.

This was tough as hell. Probably the hardest thing I’ve done (academically, at least) but just a few months into the program I can already see that I’m a better reader, a better writer, and more insightful critic.

I will absolutely not be taking a full load from here on—it’s all fun and games until you have three 15 pages papers dude within 4 days of each other—but I’m super coming into my own here.

10/10, would grad school again.
