Well I imagine Lan Xichen set it up to give LWJ a challenge (more social than skill based) and LWJ rose to it (begrudgingly) #Sort of a 'You've mastered so many Lan techniques but Other Sects have styles that are worth learning.' set up. #Lan Qiren agrees mostly on the basis that...well it's LWJ. Yunmeng Jiang is unruly but LWJ is beyond that riff-raff. He'll rise above it. #This is the story of a boy who thrives on routine and rules spending time in a place that is his apparent antithesis. #Also it is so warm there. He is used to it being cold and what do you MEAN just take off some of my layers? #I just want to see him struggle and flail in many situations. And get him in Jiang Purple. it is both cool and depressing to look at old dnd and mtg art from 10+ years ago. The average skill needed for promotional, game, or commercial art in ttrpgs and books is wild. Even looking at some of my favorite artist's work from early in their career, like, you can't get a spot in a fanzine with that anymore.

idk what the future of art is professionally, but honestly with the intense need for tight turnarounds and 100% professional, polished, perfect massive pieces of art, I'm not surprised AI has become as popular as it has. The average person cannot fucking do that.

I follow someone that can finish a canvas (i think you have to paint mtg work on fairly large canvases) in 3-4 days. Like fully finished, polished work in 3-4 days. I really wish this wasn't the case. I wish there were more differences in style for mainstream ttrpgs, and im frustrated that the average person wants polished, smooth art that looks virtually identical to every other piece. Isn't the fun of rp games to have different versions and perceptions? It feels so overwhelming.

#learning to paint in that one specific classical art style is not easy. #it's time consuming and a skill unto itself #but here we are with complete and total homogeneous art #and a barrier to entry that's never been higher #this is beyond anatomy and composition #technique is a different beast #and usually one of the last things you can truly master #so every artist pumping out this work is infinitely more experienced skilled and talented than any entry level artist would typically be #and as much as it sucks for the whole social media post every day or painting every day #you really do have to be able to do that to reach that level of skill #hours and hours and hours and hours of work far beyond what an entry level artist used to be required to do #and you hardly even get training now #i want to do illustrations but whew #thats so much #its SO much
