ROUND 1D, MATCH 6 OUT OF 8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Causes of Death & Propaganda Under the Cut:
Karen Page
Cause of Death: Murdered by the main villain
Propaganda:
She has a lot of potential that had been just thrown away. Honestly most DD love interests have been done dirty, which sucks since it's my favourite comic. At least the show didn't kill her
Holly Granger / Hawk
Cause of Death: Murdered by the zombie of her predecessor
Propaganda:
Her existence is a retcon, her powers are a retcon- the comics can't even agree if she's the older or younger Granger sister. She largely existed to hit on muscley comic men and take sexy shower scenes. Her death is even implied to be given the cosmic "Okay!" as her attempt to rise from the dead (for real this time) is thwarted by an angelic manifestation of another character laying her back to rest. All of this to say that she's a fantastic idea that was mishandled over and over again until they decided to fridge her in favor of just bringing the first Hawk back, but they still want all of the drama and sadness of killing her off in the end.
Antalya / Mary-Jo Altman
Cause of Death: Burned to death in front of her son
Propaganda:
Mary-Jo Altman didn't initially have a name. She was just Mrs Altman, the mom of Young Avenger Hulkling (human name: Theodore "Teddy" Altman. Given name: Prince Dorrek). In the original comic run she dies without a name, within the same issue she's introduced, after something like nine speaking lines (one time I counted). She's barely mourned: Teddy cries at the end of the initial Young Avengers run, but that lasts about a page before our heroes run off to pursue further adventures. In further comics, such as Young Avengers Presents, Teddy's focus is on his biological father he never knew (the Kree Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel). Mrs Altman didn't get a name until 2020, a decade and a half after her first appearance.
But without her, Teddy Altman wouldn't be the character he is. Teddy Altman is kind, and gentle, and compassionate, and while he's willing to resort to violence (he is a superhero) he does try diplomacy first. The Kree and the Skrull are two alien races known in Marvel canon as being predisposed to war, and it would have been very easy to make Teddy, who is both, personify that - but he's doesn't. He loves. He loves his husband. He loves his friends. He loves Earth. And he wouldn't be this way without Mary-Jo Altman, who also chose love. Writer Anthony Oliveira spotlighted her character repeatedly in his work for Marvel and under his pen she is exactly the kind of person who would raise someone as remarkable as Teddy. Antalya was an elite Skrull warrior tasked with guarding a secret royal Skrull baby that was never meant to be, and she loved him. She loved Earth. She chose to become a real estate agent. She adored all the silly little mundanities of Earth - and she taught that love to her son. "Be brave enough to be kind," she told him. And he is.
Mary-Jo Altman deserved better. I'm glad later writers made sure she got it.

Seeing as how the Minimoff twins are a topic of discussion right now because of the rumored Billy casting for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, I just want to take this moment to say:
I think it’s really funny that Billy in a way is ethnically Jewish twice over- first via Wanda if we ignore the Magneto retcon, and then again via the Kaplans.
Meanwhile, Tommy in the same way is canonically from New Jersey twice over.
It’s like Marvel/the universe said “you make no sense, but you have to have some consistency” and somehow that is what made it through when the twins were reincarnated back into the main universe.
As a Jewish New Jerseyan, it’s particularly hilarious to me.

you are teddy altman. when you are 16, you watch your mother die. years later, some seeming miracle brings her and your infant self to your doorstep. she lived in disguise for your entire childhood to keep you safe; the only other time you've seen her real face was right before she died, but now she is here barefaced and telling you she loves you, that she's proud of you, that she approves of the love of your life. she reminds you of the lessons she always taught you even when she didn't say them out loud: live without fear, live without shame. and you have only a brief amount of time to see her again because she has to go. your baby self has years and years with her to look forward to. even if it wouldn't endanger the life you've built here and now, you can't take that away from him. but you can give her a gift, a tiny drop in the ocean of things you can never repay, a glimpse of the love that is in her future. you're gonna be perfect, you tell her, and you know she'll kiss your head a thousand times and think the same words back.

i'm still setting up my muse directory, but i thought i would compile a list of the muses i write as under the read more.

Candles (and candle-y products) I think the Young Avengers would have:
Context: I came up with this while being in a Yankee Candles with my family for 45 minutes or so. I got bored, took a bunch of photos of candles, and spent another 45 minutes on this vaguely unhinged Young Avengers post. Also this is just the comics team, so V1 + V2 team. :)
enjoy?
Nate: Coconut Beach - He’d probably have a basic beach candle like this, mostly based off the panels of him on the beach
Tumblr media
Eli: Seaside Woods - Not technically a candle but it was in the Yankee Candles so. I think he’d have these solely cause someone else bought them for him and he didn’t want to throw them away.
Tumblr media
Teddy: Singing Carols - I think Teddy would have one of those vaguely festive candles with the strange names, and he probably enjoys them too. Maybe they remind him of his mom. Mary-Jo Altman seems like a festive candle type lady.
Tumblr media
Billy: Edelweiss - I mean, come on! It’s named after a Sound of Music song, of course Billy would have it! Probably bought multiple, I just imagine him performing spells with the Edelweiss scented candle.
Tumblr media
Kate: Hinoki Dahlia - I honestly picked this solely cause it’s purple, but Kate would totally buy it just cause it’s purple also.
Tumblr media
Cassie: Movie Night Cocoa - absolutely bought for the ridiculous concept, but turns out it actually smells good so she bought more. I’m sure Kate helped in buying this.
Tumblr media
Jonas: Catching Rays - Listen, he’s a robot, I doubt he can actually smell this, but I think it’d be funny if he had it (also I didn’t wanna leave him out, I love him)
Tumblr media
Tommy: Ice Banana Pop - He’d buy this just to piss everyone off, especially Billy and David though, he probably thinks it’s hilarious
Tumblr media
David: Vanilla Bean Caramel Biscotti - It’s vaguely yellowish-orange and is sort of professional looking. I bet he seriously likes it too, it’s like the anti-thesis of Tommy’s monstrosity of a candle.
Tumblr media
America: Cafe Al Fresco - Kate bought it for her. It smells like coffee and America swears she doesn’t like it, but she does.
Tumblr media
Noh-Varr: Sunset Disco - I laughed for a solid 2 minutes seeing this candle display, and thought Noh-Varr would totally own this candle just cause it has “disco” in the title
Tumblr media
Loki: Mistletoe - Look, I have an awful sense of humor, and Loki probably does too. Maybe Verity bought this for him, maybe he got it himself, who knows.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
June 2nd - Hulkling
Theodore ‘Teddy’ Altman is the son of the Kree hero, Mar-Vell, and the Skrull princess, Anelle.  The two had a brief affair in the midst of the Kree/Skrull War and the child was a closely guarded secret.  Fearing for his safety, Princess Anelle sent the infant away with her nursemaid.  The nursemaid brought the child to Earth hoping to leave him in the care of his father.  Upon learning Captain Mar-Vell had died, however, the nursemaid decided to raise the child herself and used her Skrull abilities to assume the guise of a single mother named Mary-Jo Altman.
Teddy appeared human throughout his childhood yet discovered his ability to shapeshift in early adolescence.  He had inherited this ability from his mother; along with greatly enhanced physical strength inherited from his father.
As a teenager, Teddy was asked by Iron Lad to help him form a new team of ‘Young Avengers’ in an effort to defeat Iron Lad’s older self, Kang the Conquerer.  Teddy agreed and assumed the alias of Hulkling.  The Young Avengers were successful in fending off Kang.  Teddy and his fellow Young Avengers, Wiccan, began dating shortly after forming the team.
Following further adventures, Teddy was abducted by The Super Skrull known as Kl’rt.  Teddy was told that his true name was Dorrek VIII, grandson to the former Skrull Emperor and heir to the throne.  Teddy had trouble believing this but was convinced when Kl’rt used a device that neutralized Ms. Altman’s shapeshifting abilities and revealed her to be a Skrull.   Kl’t then killed Ms. Altman and insisted Teddy return to Skrull space with him so to unite the fractured Skrull Empire.  Just then, solders of The Kree arrived, claiming Teddy as their own.  A battle ensued between the Kree and Skrull forces as well as Teddy’s Young Avenger allies.  The only solution that Teddy saw to end the conflict was to surrender.  The Kree and Skrulls came to agree that Teddy would spend half the Earth-year with the Kree and the other half with the Skrull and decide on his on which side he would ultimately declare his ultimate allegiance to.  After the two sides left it was revealed that the ‘Teddy’ who had departed was actually Kl’rt who had used his super Skrull powers to impersonate Teddy thus allowing the young man to remain on earth with his friends.
Following many more adventures, Teddy was once more approached by representatives of the Kree and Skrull peoples.  A tentative alliance between the two empires had been achieved and Teddy was asked to lead this new alliance and acted as a type of figurehead to further strengthen the union.  The prospect of being able to help put an end to countless centuries of war was too great of a responsibility to pass up and Teddy agreed to this request.  At the same time, Teddy’s relationship with Billy had deepened and the idea of being separated for good was too much to bare for either of them.  The Kree/Skrull union would likely not agree to Teddy’s being with a human mate so he and Billy superseded any such disagreement by arranging a quick marriage and a small marriage attended by the Young Avengers.
Teddy became Dorrek the Eighth, leader of the Kree/Skrull Alliance and commander of their joint forces.  The first great challenge to his rule was the threat of the Cotati.  Teddy had to devise a means of defeating these enemies without the use of The Pyre (a super weapon that would cause the earth’s sun to detonate in supernova).  Despite betrayals among his own forces, Teddy was able to prevail with the aide of The Avengers and Fantastic Four.  The victory cemented Billy’s position as king and greatly strengthen the union between the Kree and Skrull peoples.  In the aftermath of the victory, a celebration was held on the Alliance’s flagship where Teddy and Billy redid their wedding with a lavish ceremony in which Billy was formally inducted as prince consort and court wizard.  It was really nice.
Now situated on Throneworld II, Teddy has continued to guide the fledgling alliance in the hopes of a better tomorrow for the united citizens of the union, guarding it against the countless threats that are sure to come.
Hulkling first appeared in the pages of Young Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2005).

@byzcntine liked for muse roulette plotting:
Lucy Lane - Teddy Altman: Met whilst they were both serving in the army?
Tara Lewis - Will Gorski: The BAU are called in to assist on a case that Will’s working on
Amy Cameron - Andrea Rojas: I don’t know Andrea very well but I do know that they should kiss
Catia Lucas - Kara Danvers: CatCo reporter buddies!
Bridget Westfall - Jennifer Jareau: Clearly the entirety of the BAU should be in a whole lot of therapy at all times
Robin Gallagher - Jason Mendoza: I have no idea how they’d meet — beyond Jason rocking up at the strip club which I don’t suppose is the most unlikely — but I just think they could be really chill friends
Leah Jacobs - Kara Danvers: Kara interviewing Leah and/or Supergirl needing to rescue Leah from some sort of threat?
Lemond Bishop - Wolfgang Bogdanow: Wolfgang is absolutely someone with the skills that Bishop would be wanting in his crew
Nora Goddard - Kara Danvers: I stand by my earlier point, Nora deserves a beefcake lol
Debbie Smith - Sara Lance: Debbie Didn’t Die AU. There was some space/time disturbance and the Waverider crew have to pull her out of her timeline. Maybe she can’t get back to her mum, but she does get to go on cool adventures
Marie Winter - Jo Wilson: Marie’s girls are going to need medical attention from time to time but you know she’s controlling enough not to let them go without someone to keep an eye on them. Maybe Jo becomes suspicious?

Spellbound
by januuuus
Following the final stand against Thanos, Wanda Maximoff found herself lost, with everyone she loved six feet under. Stephen Strange also found himself lost, with the title of the Sorcerer Supreme and five years of his life gone. Yet threats won’t stop coming their way just because they feel like they could use a break.
For Teddy Altman, threats have never stopped coming his way since the day of his birth. Yet they may stop at last, now that he has the protection from S.W.O.R.D. and a new home on Earth. Perhaps he could finally stop worrying about his grandfather’s men jumping out to kill him at any minute, and get to live his life a little.
Could he, though?
In simpler words, it's loosely based on WandaVision except that everything's different and heavily features BillyTeddy

No, but why am I just realizing that Mar-Vell and Anelle really did manage to bring peace to their people, and it was all throught the power of love?
Tumblr media
Not only did their love for each other result in Teddy, who would later on unite their people, but it was also what opened the path for his future.
Tumblr media
It was Mar-Vell’s love for earth that opened the path for Teddy to become a hero in it, and started the whole story.
Tumblr media
And it was Anelle’s love that led her to give up on Teddy and send him to earth in order to save his life.
Tumblr media
Not only that, it was also Mary-Jo’s love for Teddy (and the princess) that lead her to remain on earth and take him as her son. As well as what led her to raise him to be a man who puts love and kindness above all else.
Tumblr media
And it was Teddy and Billy’s love that allowed then to beat R'Klll’s game.
Tumblr media
And last, but not least, it was Teddy’s love and kindness that beat R'Klll in the end, and helped save earth.
Tumblr media
Why am I getting emotional over two comics’ characters that died years ago? Why is this killing me? Is it because at the end, the Kree/Skrull war story was about love and kindness and acceptance? That love, above all, was able to win in the end and bring peace to the universe? Or is it because this storyline is so important to me, but I know the MCU is gonna ruin it?
Heck, they already started ruining it by pretty much erasing Mar-Vell’s character (and his importance) from the MCU. I can’t even imagine what they will do to Teddy. I am so afraid. I hate the MCU’s Captain Marvel so much. Why did they have to ruin this legacy like this?
