Letters From Watson Liveblog - May 17
The Engineer's Thumb, Part 1 of 3
Tumblr media
The Naval Treaty would also count here, but although we read it before this story it was actually published a year later. I guess if I wanted to create a Watsonian reason for the discrepancy, maybe because Phelps asked for Holmes' help, Watson considered himself less the introducer and more a facilitator of the case.
Tumblr media
Now this is a nice change from the last mention of Watson's life after leaving Baker Street in The Stockbroker's Clerk:
Tumblr media
I imagine The Stockbroker's Clerk case was the impetus for Holmes and Watson seeing each other more often as is seemingly the norm in this story and the cases right before this one.
Tumblr media
With Dracula Daily going on right now, seeing this young man with the pale complexion and bloodstained handkerchief, I can't help but see a possible vampire victim in the same vein (heh) as Jonathan Harker, especially with how polite and apologetic he is despite having been through such a severe situation.
Tumblr media
Mary cameo! Once more she is not named, but it's enough for me to at least put her in the tags.
Tumblr media
Mr. Hatherley was just a young man, an orphan no less, starting out in his new career after having recently lost his father. There are more Jonathan parallels here than I expected.
Tumblr media
He then meets an older, foreign man who, despite having such emaciated features, is still quite youthful in manner! He's called Colonel Lysander Stark! That even sounds like a pastiche on Count Vlad Dracula, with the honorific and everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So someone recommended young Hatherley to the Colonel, with the information that Hatherley was talented, an orphan, a bachelor, living alone, and also capable of keeping a secret. It'd have to be someone quite familiar with Hatherley, perhaps someone who's worked with him, or maybe even over him, like a former boss!
The parallel I'm talking about is to Mr. Hawkins and his letter to the Count, in case I made it too vague:
He is a young man, full of energy and talent in his own way, and of a very faithful disposition. He is discreet and silent, and has grown into manhood in my service. He shall be ready to attend on you when you will during his stay, and shall take your instructions in all matters.
Tumblr media
The Count never did this, but I can also very much see the Count doing this. As we know, he does like to dart around quickly when he thinks nobody is looking.
Tumblr media
I feel like this line speaks for itself in how easily applicable it could be to the Count, or any number of vampiric scenarios.
Tumblr media
The Colonel wants Hatherley to work in the middle of the night, which would result in Hatherley having to stay the night.
Tumblr media
And Hatherley can't refuse because he needs the money and has his career to think about.
The Engineer's Thumb was published in 1892 by the way, five years before Dracula, so this is all likely a coincidence or just some common motifs of the era. Won't stop me from seeing the parallels though.
Tumblr media
A passage from when Jonathan Harker first meets the Count:
The instant, however, that I had stepped over the threshold, he moved impulsively forward, and holding out his hand grasped mine with a strength which made me wince, an effect which was not lessened by the fact that it seemed as cold as ice—more like the hand of a dead than a living man.
Tumblr media
Just one chestnut horse? No quartet of coal-black splendid beasts? I guess not every vampire has the resources to complete the aesthetic.
And I am going to assume the Colonel is a vampire, even if the next two letters contradict it. But based on this letter so far, I think I'll just get more evidence if anything.
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

MASTERLIST #2
Navigation!
Let me know if there are any characters you’d like added and I’ll look into it! :)
Smut = **
What I will NOT write for under any circumstance: R@pe, incest, anything to do with pee or poo, hardcore bdsm or anything like that type of smut, kidnapping reader for love, anything stalker, abuse unless it’s for angst but I won’t go into detail about the abuse (though I will do like slapping/spanking for smut it cannot have malicious meaning behind it, and there is always consent for that)
Also let me put this by itself, pregnancy is also way off the table. It’s 6 feet underground. I understand it’s part of life and it’s beautiful , and that’s for people to decide but personally I find just the concept of that horrifying and gross. I do breeding kink yes, but no description of pregnancy. (No hate to pregnant people I just can’t stand the concept of pregnancy in any form.)

For #womenshistorymonth a look at some of the most important women in the history of The Phantom of the Opera.
Number 11. Mary Millar
In 1986 Mary Millar originated the role of Madame Giry in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera. This Madame Giry differs quite a lot from the original book where she was The Phantoms elderly box-keeper and messenger.
Mary created the blueprint of the strict ballet mistress struggling between her connection to "The Phantom" and her ties to the Opera Company.
She played the role for four years and appears on the original cast album.
The role was a stark contrast to her most famous role as Rose, the sexy, flirty but lonely sister of Hyacinth Bucket (Buquet) in "Keeping Up Appearances".
In 1960, Millar travelled to New York to understudy Julie Andrews in Camelot. She began her West End career in 1962 as Cloris in Lock Up Your Daughters. In 1969, she played the title role in the musical Ann Veronica, based on H. G. Wells' novel.
From 1997 to 1998, Millar played Mrs Potts in the London production of Beauty and the Beast, and appeared on the cast album.

do u have a book rec that will ruin me emotionally? i want to be upset. but in a nice way. sort of like how la vita è bella makes me upset or a thousand splendid suns makes me upset. i need a bittersweet ending i will think about forever. or something. sorry for the random question shshsjsjs <3 all g if you can’t think of anything i just thought i’d ask you first
of course i do!! ❤️
so here are some book that are upsetting and heartbreaking and made me upset and made me cry:
the great believers by rebecca makkai
i cried and cried and didn't recover for days. a dazzling new novel of friendship and redemption in the face of tragedy and loss set in 1980s chicago and contemporary paris.
the fortune men by nadifa mohamed
how frustrating and sad this was, made me cry and made me mad! the story of a murder, a miscarriage of justice, and a man too innocent for his times.
tin man by sarah winman
why is love so miserable? ellis and michael are twelve when they first become friends, and then one day this closest of friendships grows into something more. but then we fast forward a decade or so, to find that ellis is married to annie, and michael is nowhere in sight, what happened in the years between?
the summer that melted everything by tiffany mcdaniel
this writer is outstanding! when a local prosecutor publishes an invitation to the devil to come to the country town of breathed, ohio, nobody quite expected that he would turn up. they especially didn't expect him to turn up a tattered and bruised thirteen-year-old boy.
betty by tiffany mcdaniel
i cried through entire chapters of this. a stunning, lyrical novel set in the rolling foothills of the appalachians in which a young girl discovers stark truths that will haunt her for the rest of her life. "a girl comes of age against the knife."
swimming in the dark by tomasz jedrowski
so sad and infuriating!!! set in early 1980s poland against the violent decline of communism, a tender and passionate story of first love between two young men who eventually find themselves on opposite sides of the political divide
crying in h mart by michelle zauner
just hundreds of pages about a death so sad and inevitable. a memoir about growing up korean american, losing her mother, and forging her own identity.
the prophets by robert jones jr.
everything about this is upsetting and maddening. a novel about the forbidden union between two enslaved young men on a deep south plantation, the refuge they find in each other, and a betrayal that threatens their existence.
yolk by mary h.k. choi
to me all stories about siblings are intrinsically tragic. a funny and emotional story about two estranged sisters switching places and committing insurance fraud to save one of their lives.
mayflies by andrew o'hagan
so sad but also a glorious celebration of life. a memorial to youth's euphorias and to everyday tragedy. a tender goodbye to an old union, it discovers the joy and the costs of love.
salvage the bones by jesmyn ward
an absolute masterpiece!!! hurricane katrina is threatening the coastal town of bois sauvage. esch and her three brothers are stocking food. she's fourteen and pregnant. as the twelve days that comprise the novel's framework yield to the final day, the unforgettable family pulls itself up to struggle for another day.
tell the wolves i'm home by carol rifka brunt
sad and sweet and also nothing is more heartbreaking than how people with aids were treated in the 80s. a moving story of love, grief, and renewal as two lonely people become the unlikeliest of friends and find that sometimes you don't know you've lost someone until you've found them. in 1987 after her uncle dies of hiv a fourteen year old girl gets to know his uncle's partner.
an american marriage by tayari jones
this woman is an incredible writer! this book is so absolutely frustrating. newlyweds celestial and roy are the embodiment of both the american dream and the new south. but as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are ripped apart. roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime celestial knows he didn’t commit.
flowers for algernon by daniel keyes
heart-wrenching!!!! it's the story of a mentally disabled man whose experimental quest for intelligence mirrors that of algernon, an extraordinary lab mouse.
and among the classics:
if this is a man by primo levi
the account of the author's experience from when he was captured to his transfer as part of 650 italian jews from to auschwitz in poland and his experiences until the end.
all quiet on the western front by erich maria remarque
with the fire and patriotism of youth a group of german schoolboys sign up to go to war. what follows is the moving story of a young ‘unknown soldier’ experiencing the horror and disillusionment of life in the trenches.
giovanni's room by james baldwin
an american expatriate living in the south of france, reminisces about his life, while his ex-lover, an Italian immigrant named giovanni, is set to be executed in the morning.
if beale street could talk by james baldwin
a moving story of love in the face of injustice. tishis a nineteen-year-old girl, in love with fonny, a young sculptor who is the father of her child. they have pledged to get married, but tonny is falsely accused of a terrible crime and imprisoned. their families set out to clear his name.

— character info sheet.
(repost, don’t reblog)
name: cindy elaine moon
name meaning: cindy (greek: "light") elaine (french: "shining light") moon (english: "moon")
alias/es: cin, analog, silk
ethnicity: korean - american
one picture you like best of your chara:
Tumblr media
three h/cs you never told anyone:
she doesnt't like the actual show of the simpsons, but every halloween, cindy HAS to watch the treehouse of horror episodes. it's a ritual and she won't break it for anyone.
since the pheromone storyline was officially retconned (thank god) --cindy and peter have only hooked up ONCE. it wasn't an awful experience, but it was inherently AWKWARD and they both decided that they were much better off as friends than anything more.
cindy's roman empire is anne boleyn. she's not sure why, maybe it's that her BIRTHDAY falls on the anniversary of her execution, but cindy will devour any media/book/art about the english queen
three things your character likes doing in their free time:
during her time in the bunker, cindy didn't really have a whole lot of human contact. so when she wasn't training, her face was either in a sketchbook (sketching MEMORIES of her family) or a novel. if she's every socially overwhelmed, look up in a HIGH place--she's probably hanging there reading or drawing
she loves to garden--her apartment is full of flowers she's grown. if she had the house space for it, she'd have a greenhouse where she'd spend time gardening, reading, listening to music--her HAPPY place
knitting--cindy is truly RIGHT brained. anything creative appeals to her. sometimes if she's just sitting back with her little brother or even gwen, she's knitting something. a hat/sweater--socks, you name it! she's gotta keep her hands busy; none of this should be surprising for a WOMAN who knit her first suit out of webs
eight people your character likes / loves:
albert moon, jr (baby brother)
miguel o'hara (hubby; future baby daddy; dilf; best friend)
gwen stacy (best friend/resident pain in the ass)
mary jane watson (best friend--yes i can have multiple--red-headed goddess)
peter b parker (best friend/substitute pain in the ass)
LYLA (a godsend 💕)
peter quill (space bestie/music lover)
tony stark (billionaire pain in the ass)
two things your character regrets:
telling her mother that she hated her before going into the bunker—she’ll never be able to forget the look in nari’s eyes—and she’ll never get that time they lost back
…fighting gwen over miles. she doesn’t regret the side she took—just the aftermath of emotions running high
two one phobia your character has:
claustrophobia: extreme fear of confined spaces. this is self-explanatory. after the bunker, being locked away for a decade…cindy never wants to feel confined again. after peter freed her (and that’s exactly what he did and for that she will always consider him family), she made a vow to never allow herself to feel that restriction again. occasionally she’ll face panic attacks if she feels confined

Weekly Random (horror) Film - Bonus Review! - Krampus
8/12/23
I have a distinct memory of when I was younger; I sat at christmas, lamenting on a classmate of mine, he was the so-called “bad kid”, however, I couldn’t name anything in particular he ever did at that time that stands out to me. Regardless, I thought about all the presents I had, and considered the piles of coal he must have received - it was distressing to say the least, because what use would he have with coal, and furthermore, did he really deserve such a terrible lot? However, I later learnt he did not receive coal, shocking I know, but learning this brought an unusual sense to me, the concept of punishment made sense to me, yet it made me feel so awful. Still, I struggle with such thoughts, of retribution, punishment and how far one should go, however I always manage to arrive back at a single image in my mind, of that boy riding around on a bike, instead of cradling a sack of coal. The dichotomy of wanting punishment, but hating watching it is so integral to me, and had I known about the titular subject of today’s film then, I imagine it would have shaped me similarly into a fearful person.
My experience watching Krampus was delightful - my boyfriend and I were wrapped up warm, shielded from the bitter chill of the winter wind outside, drinking tea and having a great time. Later that same day, he quickly brushed past a Christmas market, and it further created this sense of winter within my mind - as a child, I had loved Winter so much, envisioning it in my mind as a flurry of snow, coating the frosty sky, all the while the sun continues to shine to ensure we can see. Now, I see a more cynical, albeit, realistic depiction of Winter - the sky is eternally midnight, filled with clouds not of snow, but of drizzling rain, wind blows relentlessly, yet, I still love this. The market was an embodiment of that, however, the warm glow of the lights is what makes it so much more festive, creating what could be misery, and bringing hope to it. That and of course, I was with someone I love. All this is to say that I loved Krampus, and the company and day itself aids this tremendously.
Much like my last bonus review, I did sit down and try to do some research, however much of it was not publicly, or readily, available to me; I enjoy making the bonus reviews a bit more slender anyway, they are of course extras. Besides, there was enough to learn about the titular entity, who has a really interesting history! So while this review will likely be somewhat unstructured, I do intend to make it an enjoyable read!
Krampus was directed by Micheal Dougherty, a director and screenwriter who I know best for Trick ‘R Treat, and Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, a film weirdly sandwiched between two huge Marvel movies. It follows a family as they settle in for Christmas, however when the hope of a child dwindles, the pagan deity arrives.
For this review, I’ll move through the film chronologically! Starting with the opening vignette, which essentially sums up the film's messages and ideas. To start, it focuses closer on the comedy aspect of the film, which is often its main goal! I used to hate horror/comedies, but I think this just came from me watching 2000s movies, which were just mean. While the opening does set up a later argument, it also highlights the contrast between the supposed cheer and happiness of Christmas, and the rampant consumerism and fighting that is dominant. Nobody here is happy, a stark juxtaposition to the music, and festive font. I think it perfectly embodies the problems that summons Krampus!
This film's main family is endearing, the extended family is where things grow annoying, a purposeful act to demonstrate that Christmas joy of spending time with people you secretly can’t stand. I enjoy the main nuclear family, with them all having faults, but never growing overbearing. They feel realistic, they argue, but they still love each other. I was reminded a lot of Home Alone to this end, a film I do not care enough about to bring up in every bonus review so far, but alas. Their bond is the cement of the film, and therefore, I’m glad they are so likeable! This shines through in our protagonist, and catalyst, Max, played by Emjay Anthony, and of course, Toni Collette as Sarah.
Moving onto the inlaws quickly, none of them stood out to me as enjoyable or fun, unless Omi is counted! Yet, they never grated on me enough to stop enjoying the film, I think an issue I have with a lot of 2000’s horror, and media in general, is to make us want a character to die, they make them entirely insufferable, they make us beg for their death, hoping that this will make it all the more sweet. Yet, all this does is make me hate the film - when all the audience wants is the release of these characters' deaths, there is nothing more to enjoy. Here, it works better, once again, they feel real, annoying sure, but with genuine problems that can be empathised with. Their scenes of terror were enjoyable, however I wanted them to escape this peril, because they feel so human.
I found the dinner sequence to be the accumulation of this irritable feeling, where the twins are such large bullies, that it makes it difficult to ever return to their sides. Of course, it comes from insecurity, but they are never given a redemption in any way, whereas some other characters are. While I did enjoy the realism again, having a dysfunctional family attempt to force a pleasant evening, wow does it become tough to watch when this poor child is so upset.
Although mostly a single set film, the following sequence where Beth leaves into the blizzard sets up nicely the concept of how the house is not at all safe, yet the safest place they can be. In a sense, they are already trapped inside a snowglobe, unable to escape from the oncoming creature.
This leads to our first meeting with Krampus, who is such a fun villain - shown here through silhouettes as he jumps from roof to roof, his presence is instantly felt. He is half goat, half demon, his historical role being to punish bad children. I find his links to Satan, through the use of the goat, so interesting, especially because the dichotomy becomes demon vs magical human. Regardless, the design in the movie is incredibly cool and memorable, blending the more traditional goat design, to incorporate more of Santa’s imagery, such as making him hunched to provide bulk and wearing his garments. Overall, he makes the film as good as it is. He is terrifying and scared me when I saw the poster in 2015, merely the hand was enough to send a shiver down my spine.
Here, we are also introduced to the first of Krampus’ helpers, all of whom I will cycle through now! Firstly, we see the Jack in a Box, his initial appearance is scary because of what we don’t see as Beth is killed beneath a van. The whole sequence is one of my favourites in the film, honing in on how cold it is, and the isolation that the family are experiencing. However when we later see the creature’s full appearance, he is similarly terrifying for the opposite reasons - his mouth is segmented, fangs raised from its gooey gums. This is my favourite of his helpers, and is somewhat evocative of a creepypasta to me!
Cycling through them quicker, the dark elves are an enjoyable and scary twist, and work perfectly alongside Krampus, they are instantly recognisable, and their sound design makes them even more enjoyable! I don’t mind the gingerbread people, but they were definitely the least interesting to me - I do enjoy how all of the creatures work with the central christmas theme, but these guys didn’t do much for me! In contrast, both the cherub and bear are more great twists, that make them conventionally creepy - the bear especially reminds me of all the cool horror themed bears you can find online, with huge bloody mouths lined with fangs, which is super cool and I have always wanted one! The scene where they all invade the house later is amazing, and another favourite of mine - likely, this comes from the amped up horror, the blending with Christmas is such an enjoyable aesthetic that the film carries perfectly!
By now I have moved all over the place, so I will try to steer back on course for the final things I have to discuss! I found the animated sequence to be a delight, giving the appearance of stop-motion (which is by far my favourite medium!). Also, it just feels christmassy, it’s a style I think several adverts have adopted, so maybe this is why! All of this is perfect, from the narration to the animation; especially, I adore the shadows of Krampus!
From here, we arrive at the aforementioned invasion sequence, forcing the family out of the house as a result of the snow piling inside from the frost - the house feels so central to the film, and I think that it embodies a spirit of Christmas that exists, it is so common that the holiday is symbolised through a warm house, I think that the destruction of it shows the family being torn apart entirely, demonstrating how such an act is far worse than spending a day with annoying inlaws.
Finally, I shall discuss the ending, which is bittersweet, it’s a perfect encapsulation of the film, I think. The perfect, happy moment is suddenly cut short by the audience's realisation that they are trapped within a snow globe. What this means, and shall entertain for the family is difficult to tell, but this only makes it more scary - whether or not this can be deemed a happy ending is similarly unclear, which also adds to the ending, making it so much more interesting! I adore it, and that moment was so fun to watch unfold!
Krampus feels like such a perfect Christmas movie, I love the way it blends horror and the holiday seamlessly, also done in Trick ‘r Treat, which I undoubtedly prefer, however the films are so very different that it’s difficult to compare them! Once again, this film means more to me having watched it with my boyfriend, however that is to say that whenever I watch it, or think about it, I shall have a happy memory captured, a snowglobe of a lovely time that I can return to eternally. That image alone would be enough to make Krampus content.

Threnodies
A scene from my budding Warrior Nun Dragon Age au, where Ava is the Herald of Andraste, with all that such an idea entails. If that sounds interesting to you, you can check out these posts with long rambles about the setting (x x x x x) shoutout to @daisychainsandbowties. This scene takes place during the quest Here Lies the Abyss. 2nd person because you (the player) are seeing from Beatrice's perspective. She's having a bad time...
Ava falls.
It happens in an instant, less than an instant.  The walkway is collapsing, your friends are running for safety, Ava doubles back to help Mary when she stumbles, and…
Ava falls.  You are too far away.  The damned dragon-Archdemon thing swooped down from the skies and divided your party down the middle, and no amount of magic could draw its attention away from its prize.  You are forced to watch in impotence as Clarel strikes at the beast with the last of her power, disorienting it enough to make it to fall off the ledge, taking the walkway with it.
Ava falls.  She disappears in an explosion of dust and rock, slipping out of sight, out of reach.  You reach out anyway, even as Camila holds you back, your hand seeking, desperately grasping.  You beg the Maker for the mercy of feeling her fingers interlock with yours again.  Mercy, please have mercy…
Ava falls.  Your friends fall.  Mary, Lilith, Vivienne, Iron Bull, Stroud.  One by one they are snatched away from you, the stonework becoming so unstable that you have to be dragged back into the heart of the fight so as not to meet their same fate.  A terror demon nearly decapitates you before you can tear your eyes away from the place they disappeared.
Ava is gone.  The battle continues, but you are blind to it.  You have only one goal now, one destination.  You run back through the bloodied halls and courtyard of the fort, blasting aside everything in your path with lightning more furious than any pride demon can match.  Vaguely, you sense Camila following in your wake, calling your name, but you are deaf to all else.
Ava is gone.  Stony debris decorates the sand.  It sits in isolated chunks and haphazard piles.  It is silent.  The familiar sounds of war fade far into the background as you march to the closest pile, throw down your staff (your magic is exhausted anyway), and start to dig.
Ava is gone.  She's not here.  Your friends are gone.  You can't find them.  You dig, and dig, and dig, until your arms quake and your hands bleed.  Until you're shaking with the sheer effort it takes to stay upright, to not collapse in on yourself.
Ava is gone.  You do collapse, as the battle high leaves your body in a torrent, water rushing through a broken dam.  You try to breathe, but your lungs are clogged with stone dust and will not expand.  Where are the bodies?  The force of the fall would not have scattered them so far across the dunes, so why aren't they here?
Ava is gone.  Your friends are gone.  Someone is shaking you, speaking your name loudly, harshly.  Mother Superion.  She grips you by the scruff and bodily thrashes you until you meet her eyes.  "Beatrice, on your feet, girl!" She commands, pulling you up by your collar.  "Get ahold of yourself!"
"But Mother, they're gone… they're gone…"
Mother Superion's stony gaze softens minutely, and her grip shifts from your scruff to your shoulder.  "Yes, child.  They are in the Fade."  Your heart stops in your chest, frozen stark stiff.
From the Fade I crafted you, And to the Fade you shall return…
"No, Beatrice, no," Mother says firmly, perhaps seeing the dawn of devastation in your eyes and stopping it in its tracks.  "We saw them fall from the back line.  A Rift opened beneath them before they could hit the ground.  They have vanished."
"H-how can that be?  Could the Archdemon…"
"No, the beast corrected itself as it fell and flew off.  It had to be Ava's doing.  There is no other explanation."
"Ava's doing?"
Mother Superion nods.  "Her powers have grown a great deal since she first received the Mark.  It is simple logic to infer that she might now be able to open Rifts the same way she closes them."
"But that means there's still a chance.  A chance that they're all…" Still alive.  Your heart restarts, throbbing beneath your ribcage, making your entire chest ache with its renewed pumping.  You feel breathless still, but it's different now.  You wonder if this is how Hope feels to Ava.
Mother Superion nods again, sharply.  "Yes, but that will mean very little if they return to a dead army and a fort still riddled with demons.  Now pick up your staff and drink this.  We're not finished yet."  She shoves your discarded staff into one hand and a lyrium potion into the other, before pushing you hard back toward the fortress's broken gate.
Ava is gone.  She's not dead.  Your friends are gone, but they are together.  No demon or beast of Blight can best them if they're together.  They will come back.  Until then, you will hunt down every demon in Adamant until the Fade returns them out of fear.
Ava comes back.  A massive Rift tears itself open in the middle of the courtyard, as the conjoined forces of the Inquisition and surviving Wardens push back against another horde of monsters.  At first, you see nothing in it that you haven't seen in dozens of other Rifts, just the eerie, murky green of the other side.  But then there are bodies pushing through the murk and tumbling out onto the cobblestones.  Vivienne first, then Iron Bull, then Warden Stroud.  They look exhausted, shaken, but mostly unharmed.  An eternal moment passes, and then Mary crashes through, taking three steps before falling to one knee, head bowed, chest heaving.  Ava is the last to step through.  Her face is stone, her eyes are wet.  She holds up a hand, and clenches it into a fist.  The Mark ignites, and the Rift closes.
Ava is back.  The demons fall and fade, their tether severed.  The battle is over, but it takes several seconds for the realization to settle over its participants.  You only have eyes for the woman in front of you, but you can sense the crowd around you turning to look too.
Ava is back.  She's worse for wear, but she stands tall, even as her mouth twists with an emotion you are horribly familiar with.  Despair.
Ava is back.  Vivienne is back.  Bull is back.  Stroud is back.  Mary is back.  Lilith is…
A cheer erupts from the gathered troops, who are too caught up in the sudden victory to grasp what has happened.  All around you, people are wiping blood and sweat from their faces, sinking to the ground, leaning on their weapons, and embracing each other.
Without immediately realizing it, you are moving, walking on unsteady feet towards the girl you thought you'd lost, whose skin glows faintly in the low light of nearby fires.  She meets you halfway, pulling you flush against her body, burying her face in your neck.  "Bea," she whimpers, tears slowly soaking into the fabric of your robes.  One syllable, conveying everything.  You hold her tighter.  It's all you can do.
Ava is back, and Lilith is gone.  Before the night ends, that knowledge will break you.  It will send you crashing to the floor of your tent and sobbing against Mary's chest.   But for now, for now, you hold Ava in your arms, praise the Maker, and breathe.

(repost, don’t reblog)
((you guys know the routine by now, this is Part One for mcu!Peter))
name: Peter Benjamin Parker
name meaning: Peter("stone") Benjamin("son of the south" or "son of the right hand") Parker("keeper of the park")
alias/es: Pete, Spider-Man, Spidey, Underoos, Kid, Queens, Spider-Menace
ethnicity: American
one picture you like best of your chara:
Tumblr media
three h/cs you never told anyone:
Peter tends to hang out(literally) in Time Square around billboards when he's not having to fight any active crime. It also sometimes lets him say hi to people.
Whenever something tech or electrical breaks to the point of needed replaced in their apartment, May gives it to Peter first so he can strip it for any parts he might want for something he wants to build. That's how he got most of the things he needed to make his first set of webshooters...the rest was from dumpster diving.
After seeing the kinds of robots and A.I. Tony had made, Peter made a robot of his own. He was determined to figure it out for himself. It's small, dome-shaped, has six legs with a camera lens eye, flies around(retractable legs), and can perform scans and send him information gathered, along with a few basic tasks. His name is "Bee-Doo" based on some of the noises he makes, and when asked Peter insists he's "Droney"s little brother.
three things your character likes doing in their free time:
Movie nights with friends/family
getting to build/make something new
hanging out with his friends
eight people your character likes / loves:
May Parker
Ben Parker
Ned Leads
Michelle Jones
Tony Stark
Happy
Richard and Mary Parker
two things your character regrets:
The incident at the ferry, he wish he'd trusted Tony to listen to him rather than disappointed him
May finding out he's Spider-Man, as great as it is to not have to hide it from her, he really didn't want to worry her with it
two phobias your character has:
loosing any more loved ones
Claustrophobia(direct result of Toomes droping a building on him)

Why is the USFS so dead set on green and parsons? To prop Charlie and tanith’s new school because their top 2 teams are already from IAM?
I’m hoping C/P can use their extra time off (due to not going to worlds) to get even stronger and come back next season with more kickass programs. Such a stark contrast between a Charlie white choreographed program and an IAM one (I believe Marie-France and Madi did C/P’s free?)
The thing is - are CPom not going to worlds? I would assume USFS are telling them to stay in top notch shape, they would have done it regardless since they are 1st alternates but given H/B's status there's a solid chance their season is not over yet.
CPom's FD is by far the better program, their score today baffled me, I was expecting 116-117 but the tech box was frozen and they got significantly lower and looking at the protocols they were just lowballed in GOE and PCS which is really annoying since it's uncalled for.

“  you’ve  made  your  decision  then? ”
would the guilt ever leave her, or was this the price she paid for all the wrong she'd done until this point?
for turning her back on her family - on nana, pawpaw and mark. for ignoring her boyfriend's pleads to see sense and listen to the truth he had been trying to open her eyes to. for all the times she had turned a deaf ear to eli's attempts to talk to her on an even keel.
for all the times mary-may had desperately tried to wake up a naive sixteen-year-old.
but she had figured out a way to bury that guilt for years - for a life time, even. until now. because her eyes had been opened and she could't wipe away the cruelties their new world had been built upon.
she had left eden.
not entirely in the way she had intended to do so, but linny knew now that the time would never have been right. she couldn't control what information aaron fed back to jacob and john. she had no way of filtering or justifying her actions to eden.
she was a sinner now. a sinner who had lied to them, who had betrayed them all and a herald who had abandoned them - and the guilt of that was almost as heavy as the one she now felt for abandoning mark and wheaty and all the others back before the collapse.
a small part of linny still wished she could have some of her decisions over again - a naive voice inside of her that argued that if she had just a bit more time, then she could have explained herself to jacob and that he would have understood her - after all, hadn't they been all but siblings since she had stepped into faith's shoes? hadn't she served their eden without faltering? raised carmina in their ways and done everything that had been asked of her?
a naive justification for a woman who knew deep down that it was a cut and dry case - she had betrayed them. she was weak and she had abandoned eden.
she had chosen wheaty over them and there was absolutely no coming back from that. not now, not ever.
standing behind the captain, the rest of the party she was with watching the hunting party of eden with wary eyes, but linny stayed where she stood - her cheeks burning hot with shame as she felt herself falter under the herald's piercing blue eyes.
you've made your decision then?
pursing her lips, linny offered a meek nod of her head, her threadbare lumberjack shirt a stark contrast to the muted tones of jacob's leathers and furs, ' i have ... i never wanted it to be like this. '
Tumblr media
against her better judgement, her lips kept moving, allowing more words to tumble free before her head could wrestle back control, ' h-how is carmina? '
