I just realized how similar Betty and Martin are.

Let me preface, I love both these characters.

Both of them left an old life behind, and did it for someone they loved.

Both of them acted selfishly, and then fucked off into space to leave everyone else to deal with their actions.

The main difference is that Martin knew what he was doing was wrong, and that Betty truly thought she was doing the right thing.

They’re fight or flight. Martin was running. His only goal was to get away. But Betty’s goal was focused. She was fighting FOR something.

But in the end, was Finn losing his arm and Ice King becoming Simon really all that different?

I saw a post talking about how the two adult Finns we see in Fionna and Cake tell a great story about the kinds of resources each Finn has access to. Farmworld Finn doesn't have much, so despite being muscular, he's still very lean like a bodybuilder. Meanwhile, Main Finn is larger, like a strongman, because of the access he has to resources like food.

I think there's something there. I think there's also something to be said about genetics since Farmworld Martin is also a very lean guy. His overall shape is a triangle that thins down from the waist. Main Martin is rounder, like a curvy rectangle. Their sons carry over these shapes in their adulthood. I think that's pretty cool. It makes sense that no two Finn would look alike since not only their circumstances are different, but also their families.
