absolutely want to!!!

my brutally honest opinion is that YES!!!!! YES!!!!!! YES!!!

even when i barely cared about dbh watching a playthrough for the first time ever (i thought the game was silly, which to be fair it really is), seeing that church scene initially made me go "🤨 did he just Pout at the guy?", but ooooooh boy playing it for myself and actually caring opened my eyes!! not only i started caring a lot more about every character, but really dissecting all their connections and parallels has taken a whooole tower inside my little deserted skull!!! they have angst, they have fate, they have trust, they have power, they have reflections and differences, they have uniqueness exclusive to them, just!!! whats there not to love?

i loveeee comparing their abilities, their stories (old antisocial white men who try teaching them about humanity despite hating it themselves? uncertainty in their methods? goal focused to the extreme?) and ive already talked like 3 or so times about my intrigue with their origins, but its just so fascinating!!! not to mention the potential of the rivalry to lovers line, i mean. im not usually the biggest fan of love and hate relationships, but their battles as machine versus revolutionaire were so.... they were something i can say that much!! i love watching cool fights and theirs just felt so intimate for some reason, to the way that in specific scenarios, if you fail in the same spot as one or the other, their gazes will linger longer than if you see the same scene from the POV of the winner? i mean how heartwrenching is that!!!! and Markus' constant reluctance to face Connor, while Connor will be deadset on achieving his goal (cough despite hesitating each time cough), it haunts me!! in one way or another, for better or worse, whichever the meaning theyre made for each other and thats what i think!!

Connor, in his desire to be useful again devotes himself into guarding Markus, falling into a trap of being once again a tool.

Markus is trying his best to discourage it, but ultimately is helpless in preventimg Connor from doing it, trying instead to maybe put him outside of this context to do something more casual, somewhere where both of them could just be themselves. Unfortunately it isn't working, and Markus can see from how Connor moves that he's still alert. It makes him feel kinda shitty about both the situation and himself. He was hoping that after the revolution is officially won, others will stop giving him some special treatment and putting him on a pedestal he never wanted to be put on. Never did he want his actions to outline him as being "more important", frankly it makes him feel weirdly human, in an entitled, consumeristic sense of the word. He doesn't want nor need to be protected any more than anyone else, so the fact that he is, leaves a bad feeling on his synth skin. He wonders if it's even possible to put an end to it. He wants Connor as his equal, a friend, or even more(definitely much more), not as...an android with a function.

Eventually he just insists on him taking a break. Someone else can monitor situation if absolutely necessary. It's suddenly taken close to heart and Connor is demanding him explanations as to what makes him think he isn't good enough to handle the task anymore. It finally Makes Markus angry in his own and, trying to explain it again, he potentially says something in the heat of it that only escaletes the situation more.

He's able to get rid of Connor for a few days, but then he's back even more devoted to it than before. Trying, as Markus realises, to be "better", completely missing the point of everything Markus wanted to convey with forcing him to take a break. He's so tired of it, he can't find the strength to fight it anymore.

Outdide, they almost exclusively talk through the wireless connection, and eventually from only strictly necessary information it becomes more and more informal, casual. They even find something to joke around. Sometimes Connor just shares with him a picture or a short video of whatever interesting he noticed going on around, during the time Markus was busy talking with humans. Sometimes he shows him something from real time, like some man from the audience just walking around in a T-shirt with Markus's face printed on it and titled with "Marcus for the president" with his name misspelled. Markus has to fight with his face in order to contain a smile from how unexpectedly funny it was. From the corner of his eye he sees Connor trying to do the same.

The fucking footage of them secretly laughing about something goes viral. To the point when someone from humans eventually asks Markus about it and he has to explain the whole T-shirt bit. After that, he starts to see variations of those T-shirts gaining popularity in all kind of ways from "Marcus for my robohusband" to "Fuck Marcus" with his skinless face drawn in an unflattering way. It becomes kind of a meme, resulting in astonishing amount of people thinking that that's how his his name is spelt.

Connor gets him one of those T-shirts as a gift. It just says "MarKus". He wears it for the next time he's filmed by some television station.

Sometimes Markus just comments to Connor about what he thinks in process of someone asking him the most bizzare and offending shit. Occasionally Connor shares with him the information he managed to obtain from looking at whoever Markus is talking with and searching everything about them up that could be relevant.

One time some human is thrown over their head in such a short time Markus has to take a moment to realise whatever the hell just happened, which apparently was Connor reacting to and disarming someone approaching Markus with a firearm hidden in their pocket.

To himself Markus thinks that if someone were to try pointing any kind of firing weapon in their direction, he'll be the one to shield Connor from it. Connor won't admit it, but Markus is well aware that his chassis is in fact more fragile than his own. Even if it wasn't, still.

Connor doesn't need to know about it, of course.

Jericrew + Connor Dynamics: Personal Headcanons

Josh and North are like two cats that just silently glare at each other from across the room but if you put them in close proximity to each other, shit will go down. But surprisingly, they never get physical. No matter how heated the arguments get (okay, so this one is actually kind of canon.)

Simon hides guns in different parts of the freighter where he can easily access. Not because he likes them or uses them often; he thinks they're too loud and impersonal. But because he's slightly paranoid about humans finding Jericho. Only slightly, trust me. Post revolution, he stashes a few of the guns on his person instead. (He never wears form fitting clothes in the game. What's he hiding, hm?)

Josh and Simon are the type of friends who will sit together for hours in comfortable silence and from an outside view, it looks like they're not doing anything but whats actually happening is that they're pinging memes and pictures back and forth between each other.

Josh has always been Lucy's favorite since he arrived.

You know that one friend everyone goes to for advice but they don't have any idea what they're doing? That's Markus.

Simon on the other hand is the friend that does know what he's doing but nobody asks him for advice. So he watches everyone's trainwreck lives from a distance.

North knows all the best hiding places in Jericho and she knows all the information about things that go down. People hardly notice she's there unless she wants them to. How did she know Rebecca and her girlfriend broke up before anyone else? She was in the boiler room and they were yelling right next to her.

North and Connor agree on most things. Josh is very concerned about that. North will suggest an alternative to a plan that Markus has, Josh will disagree, Connor will agree and Josh will be like "stop encouraging her".

In his earlier days in Jericho, if he felt too overwhelmed and needed to escape responsibility, Simon would try to blend in with other PL600s. It never worked and people somehow always recognized him. At some point he gave up and just started standing in the middle of the freighter so everyone always knew where to find him.

Expanding on North and Connor, they both agree that Markus risks his life too much and have taken up the role of his bodyguards. Markus thinks that sounds hypocritical because Connor and North go on suicide missions all the time but no matter what he says, he gets ignored.

our wives under the sea by julia armfield - EASILY my favorite one. BOOK OF ALL TIME. i love love love julia's writing style (i DID also read her collection of short stories and loved that as well) and ummm maybe i could say more about it if i loved it less (spoiler alert i do say a lot when i hate it BDHSJSJ)

the book thief by markus zusak - i've wanted to read this one for a rly long time and it did NOT disappoint. wah.

fingersmith by sarah waters - IT'S SUCH A GOOD BOOK WHY IS EVERYONE I TALK TO ON TUMBLR DOT COM NOT AWARE OF THIS. also if you've seen the handmaiden so you're worried you know too much - the plot is different and obviously so is the setting SO it's a completely different story

the stone sky by n. k. jemisin - the entire trilogy is amazing and based on the comments it seems people love the first book the most but i loved the third book and the ending so much i think the series peaks with this one. also: HOA (can we talk about hoa i've been dying to talk about hoa-)

mockingjay by suzanne collins - book authors would just do that?? just break my heart with no warning?? (i did know. I Knew Very Well)

8. Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?

YEAH! my goal was to read 12 books which isn’t much but i kind of fell out of the habit of reading so the idea was to read at least one book a month. i ended up reading 23 so that's technically a goal accomplished (let's all ignore that i didn't read a single book for 6 months because i was too hyperfixated on yellowjackets to focus dhsjsjs)

16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?

THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO. OH MY GOD I HATED IT. HATED IT WITH A PASSION. WHAT DO YOU MEAN "She swelled in all the places Don went flat. She was flat in the places Don swelled." MADE IT PAST EDITORS. anyway. infuriating book like stop telling me [x] is the love of your life when all i really know about [x] is that [x] is conventionally attractive like my god how about we try exploring those relationships beyond surface level. WHY IS IT SO HIGHLY RATED. the only positive thing i can say about it is it's really easy to read like the writing style isn't challenging but nothing else is either so it just feels like dinner at mcdonalds

Tell me about 5 of your tumblr crushes and why they’re so amazing to you.

Also, what kind of books do you like to read? Romance? Mystery? And do you have a book you love recommending to people?

to be completely honest i don't really understand the concept of a tumblr crush BUT if this is an opportunity to brag about how amazing my friends are i will happily oblige! i will endeavor to limit myself to only 5 people, and for those of you reading this whom i did NOT mention my sincere apologies and please know that i love you anyway. i am going to list them below a cut and put my book recs first just so this post isn't fifty miles long lol.

let's talk books! i will read just about anything i can get my hands on, but my favorite genres are urban fantasy, mystery, and historical. i don't read a lot of contemporary books that are only romance with nothing else, but i love jane austen and shakespeare. i also ADORE genre-melding, eg the seven deaths of evelyn hardcastle by stuart turton, which is a sci-fi 1920s murder mystery.

my top 7 favorite books of all time- i originally was going to do five but realized i also would recommend 6 and 7 to literally everyone i know- which i would absolutely recommend to everyone, are:

the book thief by markus zusak (historical; coming-of-age of a german girl during wwii as her foster family hides a jewish man in their basement. this book should make you SOB)

the sweetness at the bottom of the pie by alan bradley (historical mystery; 11-year-old aspiring chemist solves murders in 1950s england)

murder on the orient express by agatha christie (historical mystery; a passenger is found dead on a snow-trapped train. basic premise but i am not exaggerating when i say that this book reinvented the murder mystery genre)

six of crows by leigh bardugo (high fantasy heist; six teenagers are recruited to break a chemist out of prison in order to stop- or maybe start- a magical war)

if we were villains by ml rio (mystery; a shakespeare student at a performing arts conservatory is found dead and his classmates try to decide if they want his killer to be caught)

code name verity by elizabeth wein (historical; a spy and a pilot during wwii are sent on a mission that only one returns from. holy SHIT this book is plot-twisty)

good omens by neil gaiman and terry pratchett (urban fantasy; an angel and a demon team up to stop the 11yo antichrist from starting armaggedon)

@wespers aka tuser weepers... jamie is one of my oldest mutuals and i am so so grateful she's in my life! she has the market cornered on beautiful pale gifsets, is my go-to for book recs, has excellent opinions on just about everything, and actually gets around to consume all the content i bully her into consuming (see: knives out, hadestown, the book thief...). ily jamie you're not beating the theatre kid allegations any time soon. i am also planning to think of something else to bully you into reading/watching/listening to shortly. what about into the woods have you listened to into the woods before. or little shop of horrors. i think you'd vibe with both of them.

@gracelcdomas is another very old and dear friend and is my murdoch mysteries and knives out buddy for LIFE. milo is one of the most upbeat people i know, and i love chatting to them about just about anything. also am ETERNALLY grateful that they will always send me an ask if i rb an ask game. get yourself friends who will enable you to rant about yourself for fun online.

@jewish-mulder- hi anna! a relatively more recent mutual of mine but one who can always be counted on to have the most correct x-files opinions, and is also a very talented screenwriter! i hope my incoherent x-files liveblog as i watch the show for the first time brings them joy, because i always love reading their little replies to my comments.

my brutally honest opinion is that fandom kinda ruined it for me 😞 i enjoy very specific iterations of it but after getting into dbh its been the most annoying side of the fandom ive had the displeasure of seeing so far. as a ship itself its pretty cute though i see points made but most fanon interpretation hasnt been my cup of tea

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

for traditional/published writers, i was heavily influenced by markus zusak, jandy nelson, william faulkner, vladimir nabokov, and the dozens of others whose work i inhaled as a teenager. for fic writers, yes!! a lot of my mutuals are writers i've been influenced by, whether it be word choice, imagery, or how i characterize canonical characters when i write them!! i'm not gonna tag ppl in case they dont want the notif, but tesblr's thriving fanfic community has been a gigantic influence

U: A pairing you might like to write for, but haven’t tried yet.

if we're talking oc/canon, i haven't really written any emeros/serana, despite them being one of my main ships for emeros. i really wanna write about them getting to know each other and growing into their relationship eventually!

as for canon/canon, i want to write so many different pairings tbh. i want to explore the intricacies of astrid and arnbjorns relationship - the hint of bitterness mingled with the deep love they share, it's fascinating to me. i want to write about enthir and gallus, and gallus and karliah, and i definitely want to write about elenwen and legate rikke. that ship grabbed me and didnt let go, but i dont have ideas for them at the moment lmao

Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?

i do!! i write and read it, because it sometimes offers a really interesting take on events or can be a satisfying end to a characters story, and the aftermath of those left behind fascinates me. i don't think there's a character whose death i just cant handle, but i dont like to read about cicero dying, BUT i will if the fic is good and i will actively enjoy the rest of the fic. emotional support clown, i swear.
