Can we also have a big round of applause for Julia? She was so brave coming out to Marion after what she'd just heard, the words coming out of Marion were horrifying to hear, I really admired Julia for that and aspire to be that unbothered by homophobes <3

isn't there something to be said about how the same events were so different from patrick and marion's point of views. when patrick's pov started, that's when we got the full picture. the true story. because isn't that what always happens, people see what they want to see until reality is shoved right in their face and they go oh.

you do realize tom is the problem… gay people can be wrong too and that’s ok!! no character was “good” in this story.
It's not that Tom was perfect bc no character was but to act like Marion is not a huge factor of the problems in this story and to say Tom is the sole problem here makes no sense. Look at how you worded your ask you didn't say "Tom is also a problem just as Marion was" you said "Tom is the problem." Meaning you place little blame on Marion.
People can't sit here and say Marion [a homophobic person] is not a major problem you should blame society but then turn around and place all the blame on Tom [a closeted gay person who's lovers last lover was K WORDED and he's afraid of the same thing happening to him] and not society. How is it blame society for Marion but not for Tom ???
Ppl need to stop defending problematic characters and stop slapping the word sexist everytime ppl mention a character or an irl beard is a problem just bc that character or person is a women.

"I think what makes the relationship incredibly difficult is that Patrick grows increasingly more fond of Marion and gains an admiration and respect for a young woman who has her own ambitions and is hungry to learn more about life. So, he admires her more as the story continues, which makes the secrets they all keep from each other even harder."
David Dawson to Screen Rant on Patrick and Marion's relationship | 14 Oct 2022.

So as far as you're concerned any excuse and or behavior under the sun is acceptable for a closeted person to maintain their closet? Why is Louis' comfort and safety in his closet more important than the comfort and safety of a 6 year old child?

Can I just say there are very few times when I’m watching a movie/show and I don’t want it to end. When I was watching my policeman last night I kept looking at the time stamp and wanting with everything in me for it to stop counting down so I could keep on watching. I was just so intrigued and emotionally attached throughout the entire movie that I didn’t want to lose that feeling. Such a powerful and beautiful movie that was so well executed.

The sex scenes of MP were so eloquent and well done they did a fantastic job encapsulating who Tom really loved and yearned for. With Marion clothes are always shown to be on, it's awkward, he's trying to hard and he even has to says "I'll try to be better next time" while with Patrick clothes are never shown, it's effortless and he doesn't have to try hard he just knows what to do and what his partner wants. The clothes seemed to be an important factor in symbolizing who Tom felt comfortable with and loved vs who he felt he was with because society told him that's who he should be with and love.

Ooohhhh it’s good to hear you say what I thought about MP. They changed Tom and Marion’s relationship, which in the book I kind of read through gritted teeth as I realised how emotionally immature she was about having a boyfriend and getting married. Tom is obviously trapped by the times and that’s pointed up by his status as a policeman, but he’s also cruel and unthinking and Marion is simply a means to an end. The three-way friendship isn’t focused on in the book, rather Marion gets very little attention from Tom and only a little more from Patrick. It doesn’t make or break the film at all to re-imagine Tom, but it’s emphatically not a bi-/poly- story in the original, the point is he uses Marion to cover his homosexuality (not bisexuality) and she doesn’t see it till it’s far too late and doesn’t even get companionship out of it. So all this jolly smiling they do in the film is very nice but I felt the film didn’t quite hit the right notes somehow.
Yes! I was especially thrown by the change to the timing of when Tom finds out that Marion sent her letter to the museum. That changes the entire trajectory of their relationship from the book.
I'm also very confused by the various reviews/headlines that took away that Tom was bisexual, that is not at all the impression I got, even with the changes from the book.

[MY POLICEMAN - SPOILERS] Emma Corrin for E! Insider on which scene resonated with them the most from My Policeman | 14 Oct, 2022. [full cast interview]
"I was really interested in the scene where Marion has that conversation with her colleague at the school about her worries about Tom and then her colleague is like well, I'm gay, and this is the world we live in. And it sort of shatters Marion's world.. Marion has such Pride and you really see that and her fight against that in that moment but it's a pride which doesn't have anything to do with her feelings towards homosexuality in terms of how the society saw it at the time, but I think it all has to do with the fear she has of not being loved, I think it's a moment that encapsulates all that conflict within her."
