okay bad bitches we did it we made it through the indian wells round of 32! some thoughts on the upcoming matches:
also these are not technical notes i do not have the capacity to do that just yet i'm just rambling don't take it too seriously LOL
atp
lehečka/tsitsipas — you all know i want jiri to win this but i fear it is not happening and my boy is getting beaten down first thing in the morning. then again i haven't been watching stef lately so idk how he's playing but it feel silly to hold out any real hope
maroszan/alcaraz — carlitos straight to the qfs please Next
z****v/de minaur — okay listen i know their h2h isn't great but alex does have the most recent win over the rat (davis cup), not to mention he's been playing absolute lights-out full-dark no-stars tennis lately. like we have a chance. it's slim and i know this match is going to do terrible things to my heart rate but We Have A Chance
shelton/sinner — the main event! i'm not going to lie i am genuinely more interested to see how this goes than in who wins... ben being the only person still in the tournament to have beaten jannik AT ALL recently. this one's going to be a good one i'm excited
ruud/monfils — casper is looking in better shape but monfils is always something of a wild card... lowkey i will be happy no matter how this one turns out i just hope both teams have fun [heart]
nardi/paul — i'm mad at tommy paul for defeating ugo humbert even though i'm still mad at ugo humbert for deafeating daniil in dubai Whatever. luca nardi indian wells champion 2024
fritz/rune — okay listennn i have to support fritz as a fellow californian at the california tournament but also i think rune tennis is some of the silliest shit available as entertainment to the people. i could go either way on this one
medvedev/dimitrov — of course i'm rooting for daniil but this one should also be fun to watch
wta
potapova/paolini — jasmine paolini indian wells champion 2024 Next question
pavlyuchenkova/kostyuk — i am not kostyuk's biggest fan i fear
kerber/wozniacki — throwback match... honestly the fact that we get to see this as a r16 matchup in 2024 is kind of crazy (positive) i am quite looking forward to watching this one
światek/putintseva — listen on any other day i'd say iga's taking it but the last time she was in a wta 1000 she got knocked out fairly unexpectedly.... i do not know enough about putintseva to really say anything though so i could also just be loud and wrong
parry/sakkari — maria sakkari my icon my good friend... please avenge leylah for me thank you
mertens/gauff — coco 🔛🔝
yuan/kasatkina — i'm hoping for either dasha or jasmine to win the whole thing ngl so i fear i am on her side for this one
navarro/sabalenka — i like emma navarro but i am quite sure sabalenka is taking it

Australian Open draw: Rafael Nadal begins title defense with tough test in opening round
Tumblr media
CNN  —  Defending champion Rafael Nadal will face English youngster Jack Draper in the opening round of the Australian Open in a bid to retain his 2022 crown and extend his grand slam tally. World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz may be missing the tournament through injury, but with the return of Novak Djokovic to the competition, Nadal will be hard pushed to defend his title. Thursday’s draw was not kind to the 22-time major winner: if he defeats the world No. 40 Draper, he potentially faces current Next Gen ATP Finals champion Brandon Nakashima. Potentially awaiting the Spaniard later would be a quarterfinal against Daniil Medvedev, who was Nadal’s opponent in last year’s epic five-set final. Medvedev will be looking to make it a third consecutive finals appearance after losing to Djokovic in 2021 and to Nadal in 2022. A rematch of the 2021 final is on the cards, with Djokovic in the opposite half from Nadal and Medvedev. The nine-time Australian Open champion faces another Spaniard, Roberto Carballes Baena, in the opening round and is on track to face home favorite Nick Kyrgios in the last eight. The tournament comes 12 months after Djokovic was deported from Australia on the eve of the 2022 edition after former immigration minister Alex Hawke found the tennis star posed a risk to public health and order because, as a celebrity sportsman who had previously expressed opposition to people being compelled to get the Covid-19 vaccine, he could be seen as an “icon” for anti-vaxxers. The minister’s decision to deport the former world No. 1 meant he was initially banned from reentry for three years. Nineteenth-seeded Kyrgios is part of a thrilling section of the draw which includes Holger Rune, Dan Evans and Andrey Rublev. Russian Rublev comes into the Australian Open as the fifth seed, but on Wednesday suffered a shock defeat to world No. 110 Thanasi Kokkinakis in the Adelaide 2. Rublev faces a blockbuster opening round match against former world No. 3 and 2020 Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem. Andy Murray features in the other pick of the round as he faces 13th-seeded Matteo Berrettini. The Italian beat the three-time grand slam winner in four sets at the 2022 US Open and has beaten the Scotsman three out of their four ATP meetings.

Following reigning champion Ashleigh Barty’s retirement from tennis last year, Iga Światek has dominated the sport and comes into the tournament as the top seed. The Pole opens against German Jule Niemeier but faces a tasty potential quarterfinal clash with American hot prospect Coco Gauff. The 18-year-old superstar comes into the tournament in fine form, having won the ASB Classic without dropping a set and is looking to build on her excellent 2022 which saw her reach the Roland Garros final where she was beaten by Światek. Ahead of any quarterfinal clash with the favorite though, Gauff faces a second round match against 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu who is in a race against time to recover from an ankle injury. In the other half of the draw, second seed Ons Jabeur starts her 2023 trying to go one better than last year and win a grand slam. The Tunisian made both the Wimbledon and US Open finals but fell at the final hurdle in her pursuit to become the first Arab and North African woman to win a grand slam. After missing the 2022 Open, Jabeur opens her 2023 account against Tamara Zidanšek and could face Aryna Sabalenka who is coming off the back of winning at Adelaide 1, her 11th career title and first in 19 months. Elsewhere, American Jessica Pegula has been drawn in the same part of the draw as Maria Sakkari. Pegula recently led Team USA to victory in the inaugural United Cup, which featured a brilliant straight-set win over Światek. Having reached back-to-back quarterfinals in Melbourne and at the top of her game, she will be looking to set up a thrilling semifinal with her United Cup opponent. Source link Read the full article

Adidas SS23 Paris Collection
Tumblr media
According to Adidas
adidas unveils its SS23 Paris Collection , inspired by the crushed stone, brick and shale of clay tennis courts
Each piece features camo-style earthy prints, designed to help hide stroke preparation and player movements on challenging clay surfaces
The collection will be available to buy on adidas.com/tennis-clothing and via the adidas app from April 14 2023
adidas introduces its SS23 Paris Collection – a high-performance tennis apparel range inspired by the clay courts upon which it will be worn. The 14-piece collection – which features designs for men and women – leverages both smart design and apparel technologies to help player performance , and will be worn by some of the best in the world in upcoming tournaments.
Launching ahead of clay season , the collection is adorned with camouflage-style prints in a palette of earthy tones, representing the colors and textures of the surface it was inspired by and designed for. The camo-style designs are set to disguise players’ stroke preparation and movement on what is often considered the toughest surface in a highly technical game.
Annette Steingass, Senior Director of Tennis & Court Sports Apparel, commented: “The clay of Paris is iconic, and so for this season , our aim was to take a fresh approach and use the terrain as inspiration for our apparel design. Playing tennis on clay is unique – the balls bounce differently in hotter temperatures, the pace can be less ferocious yet the techniques more technical. The players slide on the surface to make ordinarily improbable shots. With its technical design features, this new collection reflects those nuances of the game to serve our athletes and audiences in the best way.”
The collection includes multi-layered garments, including the men’s 2-in-1 shorts and women’s Match Tight and Skirt, which keep players warm in cooler temperatures. The men’s Techfit Tights provide a compressive feel for distraction-free comfort and optimal support. The long-sleeved tee offers zoned compression sleeves, woven to enable faster removal of lactic acid from the arm muscles.
Meanwhile, the men’s FRL Polo and Tee contain a FreeLift construction, which is a design feature in the arms that allows for free movement without the hem riding up during play – key for maintaining focus in those big match moments.
The whole collection also utilizes HEAT.RDY and AEROREADY technologies, so the garments help players to feel cool and comfortable on court. Select pieces in the collection, including the women’s MTBR Dress and men’s MTBR Tee. Made To Be Remade products, are the very first products for which adidas has developed an end-of-life solution. Once returned, every product is wear assessed to aid the development of future generations of products.
The SS23 Paris Collection will be premiered on-court during the clay season’s most prestigious tournament by Stefanos Tsitsipas, Garbiñe Muguruza, Felix Auger Aliassime, Dana Mathewson, Maria Sakkari and Sascha Zverev .
Stefanos Tsitsipas, elite tennis player, commented: “Clay can be an unpredictable and sometimes unforgiving surface – in 2021 I reached the final of the clay season’s most prominent tournament, but it’s also where I’ve been tested most heavily. My goal is to cement my position at the top of the game, so any wins on this surface can make a huge difference.”
The collection – adorned with colors such as burnt orange, black and white – will be available in an inclusive size range of 2XS-2XL and will be available to buy at adidas.com and via the adidas app from April 14.
