Since before this season even began, this was one of the episodes that just about everyone has been looking forward to. Why would that be? Because this is the unique episode to The Magicians that just so happens to be the musical. I was very excited the minute this became clear when every time they have done this it has been a unique experience. It was anyone’s guess what they had in store for us this time around.
Of all the characters this could have centered around, I was shocked to see that the choice was Margo. I’m not too familiar with what the actress does outside of this show, but of the rest of the cast it didn’t seem like she was going to be the one to lead the charge. Not that I’m complaining because anything involving Margo you know is going to be exciting. Especially the execution of the musical numbers. I mean, it made sense considering she was the one trekking through the barren lands of Fillory with an mp3 player in her pocket. The song selection was memorable for the fact that these were songs fitting to the mood and atmosphere of this quest. When you think of what goes through Margo’s head in the moment, each and every one of these songs matched perfectly. The representation of each magician along the way made this fun because we were also seeing how she pictured them in her head. Most were on the mark which is what create some hilarious dialogue.

With that said, the way that this worked into her storyline was impressive for the fact that it all flowed naturally layered on top of her search, and on top of the distressing situation she got herself into during a moment of desperation. Where this quest took Margo was probably the most exploration we have gotten this season. It was something that we could all appreciate for everything new that we were exposed to on these lands, and of course with the spice that is Margo’s reaction to everything around her. To say that Margo hits her step count was an understatement by the end of the episode.
The best thing here was the character development that has been a long time coming for Margo. Not just for the bottled up feelings about losing Eliot that you knew was bound to explode, but for everything else about Margo that hasn’t been put into words. We connected with her on so many different levels when it was finally understood what makes her tick. It was satisfying to see that there is a reason for the inconsistency to these three different sides to her. The part of her that is brilliant, the part of her that is strong, and the part of her that is overly emotional. An excellent portrayal of something that many of us can relate to when society sometimes only allows you to be put into one box or the other. The obstacles she overcame to get the one weapon that might save Eliot was her shining moment. Not one character has proven you wrong on so many levels that not everything is as it seems on the surface. It didn’t take them saying it either to get why this episode was titled “All That Hard, Glossy Armor”.

This might be Margo’s big episode, but that didn’t change that the world was still turning around her. I enjoyed that at the same time there was also progress on the part of the others who still had a mission to see through when helping the monster might not actually be in their best interests. Tonight’s episode picked up right where the last one ended where Penny 23 learns the truth which shifts this story into a new gear. The urgency was never higher when every move they make that isn’t aligned with the monster’s puts them in greater danger. Where this took them on the other hand was fun for the fact that we were able to experience an element of fantasy that has not yet been explored in The Magicians. Fun for everything both whimsical, yet convenient and inconvenient at the same time. Words are hard to describe the madness of gods that simply don’t have it together.
The only thing that pained me was the continued teasing of Julia being much more than her weakened state right now.

At this stage, it was great to see some wheels turning with the rebellion. I don’t think I was the only one worried about how long this was taking to kick off. Initially I thought this might be more of a team effort, but just having Kady and Alice works just fine. Both have been given motivation and a drive to see this through to the end. The addition of Zelda only makes it better since she has a connection to everything to the inner circle of the library. Having that moment to figure out for herself how shady their acts have been was brilliantly executed. It’s not that some things couldn’t be seen. It’s the fact that no one would have wanted to until pushed to ask the right questions.
That aside, I was impressed by the work that was put into the monster figuring himself out on his own. Chilling scenes for the way that he puts us and others on edge.
The Magicians “All That Hard, Glossy Armor” was the full package in entertainment value. This was another successful musical episode, but more than that it was both character driven and full of heart. The Magicians just keeps knocking it out of the park shaking up expectations for a fantasy series.

I Don’t Know Margo shirt
A free-spirited attitude I Don’t Know Margo shirt . was at the core of the collection, which was full of great pieces mixed and matched the inventive Missoni way. The looks were styled with an artsy-boho vibe, as if straight out of Elsa Peretti or Lauren Hutton’s closets. Shapes were elongated and feminine and the pattern play was compelling, a magpie mix of archival motifs and newly minted ones creating a sort of pictorial camouflage. THE MAGICIANS Recap: (S02E06) The Cock Barrens
THE MAGICIANS Recap: (S02E06) The Cock Barrens
Welcome back, High Kings and Queens of Fillory! This week’s episode of The Magicians has an interesting title (yes, it means what you think it means) and a compelling plot to match. Everyone gets a hefty dose of “plot propulsion” as I like to call it, from Julia on Earth to Eliot and Margo in Fillory. In a nutshell, tons of stuff happens. Do you have your Fillory transporting button at the ready?…
