#marchmeetthemaker "focus & priorities" is the prompt today. During this Pandemic I have been gradually listing all my stock onto Folksy as well as working on ways to use up 5 years of offcuts and scraps. Having the time to focus on sorting out my fabric stash has made me look at ways and items to introduce to reduce them. One line I have been working on are these little coin purses using my needlecord offcuts from the dresses and waistcoats I may use my Tartan offcuts too! Also I have been looking at the option to hand sew some making them even more eco friendly. Sharing a picture of something new I taught myself recently - I made these Wonky Measuring Spoons without looking at any instructions or tutorial videos. I worked it all out by myself! 😀 I have neglected #MarchMeetTheMaker this week... Today is Day 11 and I am still on Prompt 9: Learning curve. I am self taught and everything I do is on a #learningcurve. Whether it is making copper things, promoting my businesses or selling my work. For my craft I am always looking at new tutorial videos by people much more knowledgeable than me, I buy books that teach me new #skills, I try to #practice and #improve what I do all the time so can make better. Just having a website is not enough, it needs to work properly across all kinds of gadgets. So I have to keep updating my basic knowledge of #WordPress, #woocommerce etc. Just having #Facebook, #Instagram etc is not enough... you have to keep up with how things change, how trends change and how you maintain your profile. That is a whole different learning curve! All I will says to anyone reading this is Keep Learning Keep Trying Keep Doing Thanks @joannehawker for setting this up. Day 1 ✨ Brand Introduction ✨: Somehow even after introducing myself so often, introducing myself is so hard. It feels like Im constantly saying the same thing, I'm a Computer Science major dabbling in knitwear design. I just graduated with my Masters in January 🎓 This picture is actually from when I graduated undergrad 2 years before that, unfortunately due to /these unprecidented times/ I didnt get to celebrate my Masters. Hopefully I get into my PhD program of choice and in 4-6 years we can all be celebrating me attaining my doctorates 🤞 I knit and I sew, one day I hope to be desigining sewn garments as well as knit -- though I dont think I want to draft patterns for sewing 😬 Im actually trying to get into leatherworking (mainly making plague doctor masks) I also (obviously) program so if anyone needs a python or C++ programmer 💻, I'm your gal 👩‍💻👈 No seriously, though this post is more about my knitting and sewing, I would really like a programming job. Pls. Im trying to break into the industry. I can also work Arduinos and RaspberryPis. I technically do have a logo, but its just a silly red semicolon in a black background. I was thinking of designing something more apt for my brand. The semi in my name derives from my internet handle @semicolonexpected which is a reference to a common programming error. I think what makes my brand me is that my designs usually have an element that seems drawn from the fantastic. Dragons 🐲, tentacles 🐙, magic, and sometimes the creepy crawly. I try to stay down to earth but just floating a little. On the @joannehawker's #MarchMeetTheMaker help and suggestions page it says "now is the time to polish up that speech [the introduction] so you can be prepared for next time" but I somehow bomb the speech awkwardly every time.
