So I will admit I was pretty fuckin peeved when Manga Planet started pushing a bunch of works into their library you had to buy points to get when the original basis of the site was subscription based. Honestly, I'll still admit it makes me mad. I am already paying you, what is the point if I have to pay MORE on top of it? Manga Planet stated that they would be changing the name of "Subscription" to "Pass" which I thought was absolutely fucking pointless and confusing but then I read the reason why and I still think it's dumb. However, they gave a brief look into how Japanese publishing works and its given me something to think on. Apparently Japanese publishers think that subscription based models are "a slap in the face" of the creators hard work. As though paying unequally* per chapter is somehow not?

The creator's and publisher's work is still being "honored" with money and access to the work. Is it because it's considered "binging" if you have access to the full work just like that? I don't appreciate each chapter any more because I purchase them individually. As a matter of fact I think that you can just stop mid-way through a volume is a bit more of a slap in the face I feel. Like imagine tearing a manga volume in half and then going "yes I'm only gonna pay for this half of it." (Though it is nice if genuinely don't like what you've read).

I'm glad that Manga Planet is continuing to try to appeal the idea of a subscription based model to the publishers, even if they have to pussyfoot around it to make those curmudgeons happy.

*(Unequally because I don't think there's any sites that just like you purchase with cash directly, you always have to buy some sort of stupid currency. Renta used to let you but yanked that out)

something i wish i'd see more in trigun fanarts is people having vash speak their native/non-english languages completely unprompted, ive seen folks have him speak french, which he canonically knows, but i really do believe he's a polyglot. mostly because of that one time in the desert when he saw the samurai and wanted to greet him in japanese but struggled to remember how to even say hello.

my headcanon is that rem had them learn as many languages as possible but with the big fall and so many people dying, which i think is what led english to became No man's land main (or even only?) language, means that vash (and knives!) both got horribly out of practice and are various sort of rusty in every others languages.

what im saying if there's any pun or joke you've been dying to write but just doesn't work in english vash (and knives!!) are right there!
