Chinese/Việt Langblr Introduction
Tumblr media
他们好!I'm Birdie or 梦晓 !
I've been studying Mandarin on and off for about 7 years. I started learning in middle school and had the opportunity to visit China during an exchange program in my teen years, and I've been in love with it ever since. I want to be able to be proficient enough to study Chinese media and books.
I picked up Vietnamese after meeting my lovely partner, who is an immigrant from Vietnam. Her language and culture is deeply tied to her, and I want to be able to share that with her. Not to mention their family only speaks Vietnamese, and I want to be able to make a connection and relationship with them without constantly relying on my partner to translate lol.
I'll be uploading mostly my notes and any culture topics that interest me. I'm also a children's librarian, so I may post about that as well!
I tag things by language and then grammar/vocab/culture! My personal posts will be tagged with #birdie+chirps

1/100 days of productivity
Tumblr media
Today I finally finished everything from last semester! I had the two last exams for my Chinese classes, and now I’m free! Well, not really lol. This semester I did a lot better than the one before, but there were still many areas where I could’ve improved. So, to keep track of my progress and motivate me, I decided to start this blog! If you’re also a studyblr account, I’d really love to be mutuals! 💚💛
My goals for the next semester:
📚 turn in all my homework!
📚 get the 75% scholarship
📚 pass HSK5
🫖 eat breakfast on at least 3/5 school days
🫖 drink more tea :)
🫖 drink two monsters per week maximum :(
🪴 waste less time on youtube
🪴 read at least 5 books
🪴 spend more time doing what I love 💚

Free Tarot: PAC Boba Tea Pick a Card🧋波霸奶茶
Pick a Card, Order Boba. What energy is immediately flowing your way? (next few weeks)
Tumblr media
Strawberry Green Tea with Lychee Jelly from Happy Lemon 🍓 Source
Two of Wands
Over the next few weeks, you are going to be feeling increasingly satisfied and at ease with all parts of the world around you.
Like the figure on the cards holds the world in it's hand, you are enterring a place where you are confidently in your element. Expect to see things slot into place, giving you the chance to look at where you are now and seize your own destiny.
Volcanic Lava Peach Resin Iced Tea from The Whale Tea 🍑 Source
8 of Swords Reversed
This card indicates the end of something unknown which has been troubling you.
Whether it's not knowing the results of something you care about deeply, or the fact that there's been a lingering anxiety you can't pinpoint, this signifies the end of it - showing your troubles lifting. Enjoy a sense of mental release as you are finally able to relax.
Matcha Bubble Waffle from Happy Lemon 🍵
The Devil Reversed
As a major arcana card, this signifies a huge pattern in your life. And with the devil reversed, you find that the patterns of blockages which have been troubling you finally begin to free up.
This card really signifies a major change. It means that any energy which you have been holding on to but which might not be working for you any more is now loosening up. This is about letting go of major attachments and seeing huge changes, so keep your mind and energy open.
I don't own these recipes or concepts, they are courtesy of the individual tea shops. I'm just a bubble tea enthusiast who likes sharing my interest!

"Building Your Mandarin Vocabulary: 10 Words to Get You Started"
Learning a new language can be challenging, but it can also be a rewarding and enriching experience. If you're interested in learning Mandarin, here are ten useful words to get you started.
1. 全部 (quán bù) - This word means "all" or "entire". For example, you can say "全部的书" to mean "all the books".
2. 起 (qǐ) - This word means "start" or "begin". You can use it to indicate the beginning of an action or a process. For example, you can say "从起点走到终点" to mean "walk from the starting point to the end point".
3. 这样子 (zhè yàng zi) - This phrase means "like this" or "in this way". You can use it to describe something or to explain how something is done. For example, you can say "这样子做" to mean "do it like this".
4. 儿子 (ér zi) - This word means "son". It can be used to refer to your own son or someone else's son.
5. 感情 (gǎn qíng) - This word means "emotion" or "feeling". You can use it to talk about how you feel or to describe someone else's emotions.
6. 永远 (yǒng yuǎn) - This word means "forever" or "eternally". It can be used to describe something that will last forever or something that is timeless.
7. 般 (bān) - This word means "general" or "typical". You can use it to describe something that is common or typical for a particular group or situation.
8. 有 (yǒu) - This word means "have" or "there is". It can be used to indicate the existence of something or to describe possession.
9. 带来 (dài lái) - This phrase means "bring" or "take". You can use it to describe bringing something with you or taking something somewhere.
10. 伊拉克 (Yī lā kè) - This is the Mandarin transliteration of "Iraq". It can be used to refer to the country or to things related to the country.
I hope these words and phrases will be useful as you begin your journey to learn Mandarin. Remember to keep practicing and be patient with yourself – learning a new language takes time and dedication.

generally speaking, I’m optimistic about my Mandarin progress. I’m going pretty quickly through HSK 2, more and more of my thoughts are in Mandarin, my listening skills are shooting way ahead from watching cdramas, I recognize more and more vocabulary every day - and yet! I am so frustrated, because I can’t TALK. every time I start speaking I stutter and can’t use the sentence structure that I just learned, or even ones I learned a while ago. I can’t construct my own sentences beyond the most simple ones and ughhhhhh

A self introduction of sorts
I'm an 18, soon to be 19 y.o., who studies languages, but hates traditional "school" ways of learning them and absolutely loves The Refold method.
Besides, I’m not interested in learning to speak majority of the languages I want to learn. I want to understand people around me and enjoy all the content i can find in my target languages.
One Piece is my passion and my life, and one of the main reason for learning languages  — “To enjoy more One Piece content”.
I'm currently learning Chinese, Italian And Korean. I've been learning Chinese since the 14th of April 2022, but had to take breaks sometimes up to a month, due to grieving.
Korean and Italian came into my life on the Jan 19th and Jan 10th this year. I was really bored, so I just decided to spice up my life a bit.
I have 200 words learned in Italian, skipping learning any of the basics and by just jumping into reading.
Korean is kicking my ass from the very moment I started learning Hangul, so I only have like 30 words learned and it’s hard for me.
Chinese is my babygirl and I love every moment I spend learning it.

Passive Studying through Media
Consuming media in my target languages is the best tool for understanding how my target languages are supposed to flow. This method of passive studying is great for when I'm busy with my hands or eyes.
This summer, I improved my listening skills for Mandarin whilst on the job. I started off listening to one song on repeat until I could make out simple words. Once I could definitely pick out several words and understand their meanings, I added more songs into the mix. I now have a playlist of songs I can partially understand. I can even sing along to some of them now.
Recently, Disney+ has added the Arapaho dub of Bambi to their collection. I'm so happy that this dub has become available to the public. This is a new tool to help me study my native language. The first time I watched it, I could pick out some phrases I learned growing up. I'm definitely going to watch this movie on repeat until I can understand every word without subtitles.
