~ Malcolm And Marie (Netflix, 2021) Movie Review ~
Malcolm And Marie is a cinematic masterpiece film helmed by the hit award winning HBO TV series "Euphoria" (2019 - present) creator Sam Levinson. Having said this, the film has an ensemble star cast of the Emmy Award 2020 winner Zendaya and hollywood blockbuster film "Tenet" (2020) fame star John David Washington in leading roles.
Made and filmed within the last year in midst of the global COVID 19 pandemic, Malcolm And Marie is a beautifully written and conceptualized tale black and white monochromatic emotionally power packed saga of a director Malcolm who has a beautiful and badass girlfriend Marie and the situational drama that is beautifully shown in the house where they come back post Malcolm's film premiere night party where in his speech he thanked everyone but forgets thanking his girlfriend Marie which is what starts an extreme paradigmatic parallel of intense love and hate together in balanced proportions throughout the film.
Marie does not digest the fact of her boyfriend Malcolm forgetting to thank her in the speech during his film's premiere as she believes that his film is a huge hit because it was based on her whereas he quickly denies all this. Also in front of his star cast and film industry people he is so amazing, but when in their home, he treats her brashly and takes Marie for granted which also makes her irked with him a lot of times resulting into a real heated discussion in between both of them inside the same house where they both reside throughout the film.Long story short, after a long time, finally watching a film which has been written beautifully with powerful and ace stellar performances by both Zendaya and John David Washington and without a doubt, this film had selected apt Hollywood stars for the roles of both Malcolm and Marie as apart from Zendaya and John no one could have performed it so brilliantly with finesse and nuance.
Emotions can be felt and not just seen where even the sarcastic conversations are so wonderful to see in between both Malcolm and Marie throughout. Over all, this film gives a 1950's vintage Hollywood era of black and white movies feel and undoubtedly one of the most beautifully created and made films in Hollywood till date.
Bollywood should take notes and cues from such films as well and not just go on creating remakes and re adaptations which a lot of time are not successful enough.
Malcolm and Marie, this film has my heart and is totally worth the while to enjoy because of both Zendaya and John. Sam Levinson after Euphoria series, this film tops my list of exceptionally well written and directed Hollywood film of 2021.
