It had been a week.
A whole week since you had seen or heard from Malcolm Bright.
Not that you were keeping track or anything.
Nope.
Certainly not.
You shifted the strap of your bag as you headed up the steps towards the lecture of the day. However you were unable to go into your building. You let out a frustrated groan as you tried to push your way through the crowd. You were already in enough debt, you were going to be damned if you missed one of your few lectures because of a demonstration.
“What the fuck?” you said when you finally managed to push your way to the front
“Haven’t you heard?” someone said next to you, “there’s been a murder.”
“A… murder?”
“Ooh yes,” they looked over at you, a grin of their face, “pretty gory from what I’ve heard. Apparently someone got beheaded.”
“No,” the person on your other side shook his head, “disembowelled. That’s what I’m hearing.”
“Where have you heard this from?” you asked, “getting disembowelled is pretty different from beheading.”
“Oh y’know,” the man shrugged, “here and there. But if you think about it, the two aren’t too different. Both were used as part of executions.”
Another beheading. You pursed your lips in thought as the people around you started arguing but you tuned that out. However, you were dragged back out of your thoughts when you saw Malcolm exit the building. The two of you made eye contact and he gave you a small smile. You could feel your face get hot and you turned on your heel and marched away. You only managed to get a couple of steps when a strong hand curled around our arm.
“We need to interview all the witnesses,” said JT, “and now that you’re here you’re one of them.”
*
“The first I heard about this was when I came here this morning,” you said, several hours later, “believe me, if I had known another murder had taken place I wouldn’t have come.”
“We know.” Said JT
“All I know is that someone has died,” you said, “I don’t even know how they died.”
“We know.” Said Dani
“So why am I here?”
JT and Dani didn’t answer as they led you down the corridors of your university. You hesitated slightly when saw Malcolm and Gil waiting at the end of the corridor.
“You alright?” asked JT
“Yeah, there isn’t a body in there? Heard that someone got disembowelled.”
“Oh no, they wouldn’t have had time to with the time they had. Besides, the head beside the body clearly shows what the cause of death was.”
You jumped slightly and looked at the woman who appeared by your side. She gave you a big grin and held out her hand.
“Edrisa,” she said as you shook it, “and you must be y/n. I’ve heard a lot about you from Malcolm.”
“You have?”
You glanced at Malcolm who had gone slightly pink. He pointedly looked away and Edrisa glanced between you.
“Well,” she said, “he might’ve mentioned you once or twice.”
“While discussing murders?”
Edrisa grinned and nodded. You couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm which was contagious. Maybe there was someone else in this team that you liked.
“Look,” said Malcolm, diverting your attention to him, “there has been another murder and we need to know if they’re linked.”
“Surely you’ll be able to do it?” you asked
“I thought it would be best to get a second opinion.”
“Lots of paintings of beheadings,” you said, “might not be linked. Could just be some madman with an axe.”
“Didn’t say it was an axe.” Said Malcolm
“Oh yes, they used a sword instead. Axe is more common. So, what was unusual about this? Besides from the fact that someone is going around cutting people’s heads off?”
“Despite the victim being blindfolded?” Malcolm said as he took a step closer, “and wearing her nightdress.”
“Could be a sex act gone wrong. No need to kink shame Malc.”
Malcolm smiled slightly and shook his head. You rolled your eyes and said,
“What?”
“Malc.” He said with a knowing look
“-olm,” you finished quickly, “Malcolm. This is nothing to do with me. None of it is. Now let me continue with my life.”
You turned on your heel and quickly marched away. Malcolm watched you go and Edrisa looked over at Dani and JT.
“What was weird,” she said, “was the weird? Am I the only one who found that weird?”
“Nah,” said JT, “that’s usual for them.”

The Lows of Highs- Malcolm Bright x OC
Malcolm Bright x Elena Nadis
Description: Malcolm accidentally inhales cocaine and ends up scaring his girlfriend with the after effects.
Word Count: 2.7k
“I’m telling you right now Dani, stay away from this case. And that is an order,” Gil demanded firmly. Elena tried not to make it obvious that she had been listening to the conversation, but with both parties being defensive, she couldn’t help herself and she looked over at the duo, who were standing in front of Gil’s office having a small staredown.
They were investigating the murders of two men related to some drug dealing. A theory was formed that the murders were related to a man named Estime. Dani, who had previously worked in narcotics, had been insisting that he had nothing to do with it. Gil decided to set up a meeting with Estime’s archrival, Saulo, but the man claimed he also had nothing to do with it. Now that they were back at HQ, everyone could see that Dani was personally invested in this case, so Gil suggested that she step back from it. That led them to a small argument, which is how they ended up here.
Gil didn’t give her time to argue as he walked away, supposedly to go visit Edrisa down in the lab. Dani huffed annoyedly, then walked over to her desk and grabbed her jacket while Elena watched. The girl furrowed her brows at her friend.
“Where are you going?” She asked suspiciously as Dani passed by her.
“To see Estime,” the woman answered simply. That made Malcolm, who was sitting a few feet away, perk up.
“I’m going too,” he said, standing up from his seat.
“What? No you’re not,” Dani shot back.
“Oh, well I guess I could always tell Gil that you’re going. I don’t think he’d be too happy about that though,” he trailed off, pulling his phone out of his pocket. Dani quickly put her hand out.
“Alright fine, hurry up though,” she grumbled.
“Should I come too?” Elena asked unsurely, but her friend shook her head.
“Nah, I don't want to risk Gil getting mad at all three of us,” she responded. “Don’t worry about it, I just want to make sure.” Though hesitant, Elena ultimately nodded.
“You’ll call me if you need help?” She questioned, not wanting to be out of the loop. Dani grinned then nodded.
“Who else would I call?” She rested a hand on the girl’s shoulder before heading out.
“I’ll be back soon,” Malcolm informed his fiance, leaning down to press a kiss to her lips before following after Dani. Elena could only sigh as she watched the woman’s car drive off, hoping that he was right.
As it turns out, he wasn’t right. Elena was at lunch when she got a call from Gil. She had to pretend to be shocked when he told her that Malcolm and Dani disobeyed orders and went to see Estime at his club, only to become actually surprised when he said that the club was shot up. No one was hurt, but Malcolm was near a large bag of cocaine when the shooter walked in and he inhaled quite a bit. Gil asked her to come get her fiance and take him home, to which she readily agreed.
It only took her a few minutes to arrive at the station, where Malcolm was sitting in the lobby with Dani, both looking like children caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Gil stood beside them with his hands on his hips, looking as if he was muttering to himself. She walked in hurriedly, which caught the trio’s attention.
“Hey, sorry to pull you from your lunch break,” Gil started tiredly, but Elena only shook her head with a patient smile.
“It’s no problem Gil. Don’t worry about it,” she responded simply, earning a nod from the man in front of her.
“Malcolm needs to get some rest, and Dani is grounded under my supervision since I evidently can’t trust her,” he paused to shoot the detective a pointed look. “But I can pay you for the rest of the day,” he offered. Elena nodded then patted his arm gently.
“I’ll take care of him. You just focus on getting this guy.” Gil nodded with a grateful smile.
“I’ll call you if we get any more information,” he informed her before grabbing Dani’s arm and leading her away. Elena sighed softly, then faced her fiance, whose gaze was still focused on the floor. She cleared her throat then crouched down in front of him.
“Malcolm,” she called softly, which caught his attention. A comically wide smile suddenly appeared on his face at the sight of her.
“Hey baby,” he said, words slightly slurred yet still sounding lively. Elena copied his grin, though hers was a bit exaggerated.
“Hey, you ready to go home?” She inquired, tone still gentle. Malcolm nodded lazily, and she stood up. She helped him up and led him out with her hand gripping his. The man’s eyes were becoming droopy, so she had to take extra care in making sure he didn’t run into anyone or anything. The car ride didn’t take long, and they got home in less than fifteen minutes.
“Alright, let’s get you into your pajamas then you can take a nap,” she instructed as she led him upstairs. “Do you want to take a nap?” She asked as if she were talking to a child. Usually, Malcolm would despise such a tone, but in his intoxicated state, he found it quite enjoyable and nodded lazily.
It was quite a hassle to get him into his pajamas, he wasn’t much help and instead opted to just sit on the bed and let her do it herself. Finally, she laid him down and covered him up, informing him that she would get a head start on dinner for when he woke up. Pushing some hair out of his face, she leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead before turning off the light then heading out.
Just a half hour later, Elena had been prepping to cut some vegetables for the sides when she heard a thump. She wouldn’t have been worried if it hadn’t been followed by a crash. Her head whipped around as a horrifying realization hit her: she never restrained Malcolm before he fell asleep.
“Malcolm?” She called worriedly, running to their bedroom. She attempted to jiggle the doorknob, but it felt like there was something blocking the door. That made her panic more and she began banging on the door.
“Malcolm! Baby, open up!” She yelled. No verbal response came, but instead came another bang followed immediately by shattering glass and a loud cry. Elena gasped worriedly then stepped back, attempting to kick the door in. It took several tries, but she finally managed to kick the door open enough to squeeze through the limited space between it and the doorway. She flipped the lightswitch on and her eyes immediately widened.
The room looked to be an absolute mess. Turns out, it was their dresser that had been slid in front of the door. Aside from that, the nightstands were flipped, pictures that originally hung on the wall were thrown to the ground, and the full length mirror had been shattered, pieces of broken glass laying on the ground in front of it. After surveying the area, her eyes finally landed on her fiance. He had been attempting to climb out the window, but froze when the girl burst in. Once he got over the shock, he continued his attempt.
“MALCOLM NO!” Elena screamed, rushing over to him and making sure not to step on any shards of glass. Thankfully, she reached him just before he managed to climb on the ledge that sat right outside the window. She gripped the back of his shirt tightly then used all the strength she had to pull him back in, thanking any god out there that he was disoriented and didn’t have strength to fight against her. The two of them fell on the bed, Malcolm on top of Elena. He wasted no time in attempting to get up, but she was quick to hold him down, flipping them over a second later. She had to sit on his chest to keep him still as she grabbed the restraints, wrapping them tightly around his wrists.
“NO! NO, LET ME GO!” He yelled frantically after she moved off his chest. She was frozen in place as he continued to scream desperately to be let go. Elena couldn’t stay in the room for long, his yells became very overwhelming very quickly. She needed help. Frantically, she stumbled through the doorway then began searching for her phone, finding it on the kitchen counter where she had left it earlier. She picked up with shaky hands then quickly dialed Gil’s number. She hadn’t even realized that she had begun crying until a teardrop landed on her screen, which she wiped away before putting the phone to her ear.
“Gil Arroyo,” the man greeted formally, though he dropped the formality when he heard the girl sniffle from the other end of the line.
“Gil I need your help,” she begged, whimpering as Malcolm’s shouts began filling her ears once more.
“Elena, what happened?” He asked urgently.
“I-I don’t know,” she cried. “He...I was making hi-him dinner then he woke up and beg-began freaking out. I don’t know what to do Gil but I’m scared!”
“Alright, it’s okay Lena,” Gil attempted to soothe her. “I’m coming over there right now with Dani. Just hang in there, okay? Stay on the phone with me.” She could faintly hear the sound of a car starting, and she nodded.
“O-Okay.”
Gil and Dani made it there in seven minutes, probably disobeying several traffic signals as they did so. That didn’t matter to any of them though. Elena nearly jumped out of her skin when the front door burst open, but relief flooded her when Gil and Dani appeared in her sight.
“Gil, you get Elena out of here and take her to the station,” Dani instructed firmly. “I have more experience with this type of situation.” The man wanted to protest, but then his eyes landed on the very distraught Elena.
“Yeah, alright,” he breathed out, taking the girl’s arm and heading out while Dani ran to the bedroom. Gil ended up taking her to his house to calm her down. He offered her tea and one of his shirts as Elena’s had blood on it. After that, he stayed with her and talked her through everything that happened until she managed to finally calm down.
An hour later they got a call from Dani saying that she finally got Malcolm to calm down by dunking his head in water. She took Malcolm to the hospital to get stitches in his hand after he punched the mirror in his room and broke it and that’s where they were now (Elena figured that was why there were mirror shards on the floor when she walked in earlier). Since Malcolm was now sober, he told Dani why he freaked out. The drugs gave him hallucinations that made him see himself in his father’s clothes while his father stood beside him in the mirror. It freaked him out enough to go on a small rampage to try and get away from the sight.
Elena’s heart broke at Dani’s words. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what his mind had to go through while he was high. After another hour she asked Gil to take her home since she had calmed down completely. Though hesitant, he could never say no to her so he did as she asked.
“You sure you’ll be okay?” He asked nervously as the girl got out. She offered him a kind smile then nodded.
“I’ll call you if something else happens, but I predict that Malcolm will just go straight to sleep when he gets home. I want to clean everything up before that happens so he doesn’t hurt himself again,” she responded before closing the door. She waved at him one last time before heading inside. A deep sigh left her lips as she looked around. Nothing was out of place in the living room or kitchen save for what she had been cooking earlier, but she was afraid to even think about how the bedroom looked now.
Nevertheless, she got to work immediately. Now, because Elena is lazy at times, she started with the kitchen. She packed everything away then washed all the dishes before moving onto the bedroom. It took quite a bit of strength to move the dresser back to its place, but she finally got it there after almost ten minutes. She closed the window and made sure to lock it, trying not to think of the reason that it was open in the first place. After that, she moved all the pictures on the floor out to the living room in order to sweep. Once she finished sweeping, she moved back into the living room to assess the damage to the pictures. Thankfully, none of the pictures were ruined, but she definitely needed to buy some new frames.
Her eyes landed on a particular picture that was in a gold frame. It was a picture of her and Malcolm from the night that he proposed to her. The team plus Malcolm’s mother had gone out to a celebratory dinner for the occasion and Jessica managed to get them a table at the most luxurious restaurant had ever been to. Malcolm, of course, sat next to Elena and refused to let go of her hand the entire time. Dessert had just come, it was a piece of cake that had congratulations written on the plate with chocolate icing. That’s not what the couple was focused on though, instead they were talking with each other. Jessica managed to snap a picture right as Malcolm told Elena something funny, so the girl was laughing while he grinned cheekily at her. The memory made her smile, and she found herself staring at it. This was the reason that Malcolm hadn’t scared her off, they both love each other more than life itself and they cared so much about the other. That’s what kept her going.
She had been so focused on getting the pictures out of the broken frames that she hadn’t even heard someone walk in. Her gaze was glued to the picture in her hands, but she was forced to tear it away when she felt someone sit down beside her. She wasn’t surprised to see that it was her fiance.
“Hey,” he muttered with an awkward smile.
“Hey,” she whispered, not really knowing what else to say. She watched his eyes flicker down to the picture, and his shoulders slumped a bit.
“Dani told me what you hallucinated,” she informed him softly. “You don’t have to explain if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I’m not worried about that,” he responded immediately. “I’m worried that I scared you off, and this is your goodbye to me.” He gestured to the picture. Elena’s eyes widened and she glanced at the picture before looking at him again.
“Malcolm, I’m not leaving you,” she said. “The picture frames were broken so I was taking them out. I would never do something like that, you know that. I’ve helped you through all sorts of violent nightmares, you really think that a drug induced hallucination is enough to get rid of me?” The man looked relieved by her words and he let out a breath neither of them were aware that he was holding.
“Well, Dani told me that I scared you to the point of you calling Gil for help,” he muttered, shrugging.
“I did,” she responded simply, which made him look down. “But there was a reason for that. Nightmares are easy to wake you up from, hallucinations from drugs is a completely different thing, one that I’m not used to dealing with. You need to be sober before the violence stops, and I needed help with that. But I’m not afraid of you because you are not your dad, no matter what your mind may force you to think.” Malcolm looked like he was ready to cry when she finished, and without warning pulled her into a hug. She wasn’t surprised, and instead returned the hug.
“I love you,” he muttered quietly.
“I love you too Malcolm,” she answered without hesitation, and she felt him grin against her shoulder before pulling away.
“You hungry? I can help you make dinner now,” he offered, which made her smile brightly and nod.
“Let’s do it,” she said, standing and heading to the kitchen. Malcolm watched her for a moment before following her happily.

There was a lot of information to process in the S2 premiere opening scene but the one thing my chicken brain focused on was Edrisa dropping the fact that she went through a light bondage phase. Which brings us full circle back to the series premiere and the bondage rope burns that Malcolm knew about just from sight. This just confirms that we have two kinky, murder loving nerds that are meant for each other.

Jail Visit- Malcolm Bright x OC
Malcolm Bright x Elena Nadis
Description: There’s a break in the case that requires Malcolm’s attention, but he’s visiting his father. Elena offers to go get him, and it leads to feelings being shared afterwards.
Word Count: 2.4k
“Gil, I think we got a break in the case,” JT informed the captain as he and Dani walked inside. The man in question, along with Elena, turned away from the whiteboard they had been standing in front of and looked at the detectives.
“Well? What is it?” Gil questioned when neither of them spoke at first.
“Edrisa finally got the tox screens back from the coroner,” Dani started, holding up the files. Gil and Elena glanced at each other then looked over the papers.
“Heavy traces of liquidized cocaine found in all of the victims,” Elena mumbled aloud, making the connection immediately.
“An almost lethal amount,” Dani added, crossing her arms.
“Based on the coroner’s report, this isn’t the first time they’ve had drugs in their system,” JT continued. “We think that the connection between the vics is drugs.”
“Maybe that’s why they’re all divorced,” Elena suggested, looking around at her team. “Their spouses couldn’t deal with the drug abuse so they called it quits.”
“Maybe,” Gil repeated. “Just to be sure, Dani, JT, you go visit Ms. Knox, I’ll take Mr. Rohme. Elena, you and Malcolm go to Ms. Willis’ house and see if she knew about her ex-husbands hobbies,” he instructed before looking around. “Where is Malcolm by the way?” Elena shrugged, but Dani seemed to have an answer.
“Went to Claremont to visit his dad last I heard,” she responded. “More than likely he’s still there.” Gil sighed then shook his head. They were all thinking the same thing: that is the absolute last place he should be right now.
“I’ll just get him on my way to the Willis house,” Elena offered, resting a hand on Gil’s shoulder. He shot her a thankful look then told everyone to go.
The ride to Claremont Psychiatric Hospital was pretty short in Elena’s opinion. She was at the hospital within half an hour and walking inside. She greeted Mr. David, the security guard that usually stood outside of Martin Whitly’s room, who informed her that Malcolm was indeed there talking to his father. She offered him a quick thanks when he opened the door for her then stepped inside. Immediately the men’s conversation ceased and they were looking at her, Malcolm with shock and Martin with curiosity.
“Sorry to interrupt you two,” she started slowly, trying not to show much emotion in front of the serial killer. She didn’t get to finish her thought before Martin stood, still staring at her with the same look.
“Oh, you’re not interrupting anything, my dear,” he responded kindly. “We were just having a chat. Dr. Martin Whitly,” he held out one of his handcuffed hands, though it couldn’t go far without the other one of course. Every instinct inside Elena told her not to shake his hand. She remembered Malcolm telling her that on the very slim chance that she ever met Martin Whitly, do not engage in conversation for long with him, he’s a manipulator that’s been trying to break Malcolm since he was arrested. However, she figured that the best way to get Malcolm out of there quickly and efficiently was to just play along until either of them sensed manipulation. So, she shook his hand with a polite smile.
“Elena Nadis,” she introduced herself.
“She works with me,” Malcolm added before Martin could even begin to suggest otherwise. The man raised his eyebrows and hummed thoughtfully.
“Ah, another detective. How nice,” he grinned as their hands dropped. “Well please, have a seat. We were just discussing your latest case.” Elena furrowed her brows, then looked at Malcolm to see what he wanted to do. The man shrugged then gestured to the seat beside him.
“Go ahead,” he muttered.
“Do you know anything about the killer?” She inquired, sitting down.
“We’ve been sharing theories,” Martin explained, eyes shining. “It’s obvious that your killer is unorganized. They seem like blitz attacks simply because they frequent the same coffee shop.” Elena pursed her lips, wanting to laugh at how proud the man looked about his conclusion.
“Is that what you think?”
“It’s what I know,” Martin corrected her.
“Well, it seems that your skills and understanding as a serial killer are a bit rusty, because that’s not their connection,” she said simply, crossing her arms.
“What?” He questioned, shocked by her response.
“That’s not their connection,” Elena repeated slowly so he could understand. “I guess your years at Claremont are blinding your serial killer skills.” She nearly jumped out of her seat when Martin slammed his hands on the desk that sat between them.
“Do not call me dumb,” he hissed.
“I didn’t-“
“I didn’t spend almost five years studying human anatomy and another eight making sure I knew everything just for some cop to tell me that I don’t understand three identical deaths,” Martins continued. “I won’t have it!” He stood abruptly then slammed his hands on the table again, which made Malcolm and Elena shoot up.
“Alright that’s enough,” Malcolm snapped, pushing the girl behind him to put distance between her and Martin. The men had a small showdown before straightening out his jacket.
“I think we’re done here,” he continued, much calmer now. “Come on Elena.” He didn’t wait for her to respond before he began leading her out.
“No, come on Malcolm,” Martin pleaded, also calm now as he began following them, but was stopped by Mr. David. Malcolm refused to look back as they left the building, so Elena took that as her cue to do the same. They only stopped once they were by her car.
“Are you okay?” Malcolm questioned seriously, looking her over. Elena was surprised by his question, but nodded quickly.
“Yeah, he just surprised me,” she answered while he looked her over. Logically, she knew that there was no point in him making sure she was physically okay, but she was also aware of Malcolm’s anxiety when it came to his dad, so she let him do what he needed to do in order to calm himself down. After a minute, he sighed softly then offered her a small grin.
“Good.” His words made her smile and she gestured to her car.
“Ready to go?” She didn’t wait for an answer as she tossed him her keys and got into the passenger side, knowing he preferred to be the one to drive when on a case.
“Where are we going?” He questioned as he walked around to the driver’s side and got in.
“Back to Melissa Willis’ house,” she answered. “I need to ask her a few more questions.” As she talked, Malcolm started the car and began driving. It was silent at first, but then Malcolm spoke.
“You lied,” he stated, which made Elena look at him. “About the connection between the victims. You don’t know if the coffee shop was their connection or not.” Elena shook her head with a small smile.
“I didn’t lie, I just don’t know if it’s the full truth. That’s why we’re going back to the Willis house. The victims tox screens came back and they showed an almost lethal amount of liquid coke in all three of their systems.”
“Coke?” Malcolm repeated confusedly.
“That’s not all though. After a close look at the bodies, the coroner found signs of past injections in the vics’ legs.”
“So they shoot up a lot,” Malcolm concluded, which earned a nod from Elena.
“Gil wants us to go to the Willis house to see if Melissa knew about her ex-husband’s drug problems,” she explained. The man beside her hummed thoughtfully then looked at her.
“Why do I have a feeling that that’s not all you want to say?” He inquired casually.
“Because you used to be a profiler for the FBI,” she retorted, which earned a laugh from him. “But, I am developing a theory.”
“Oh, pray tell?”
“Don’t you find it a bit coincidental that all three of the victims were drug users and all three of them often visited that specific cafe?” She inquired, hoping he understood what she was getting at. Malcolm hummed thoughtfully.
“So you think that the victims had the same supplier,” he finished her thought process.
“And said supplier makes them meet at the coffee shop,” she concluded. “The only way to truly tell is by checking with the victims’ families then asking around at that cafe.”
“It’s a sound theory,” Malcolm stated. “But then why would the unsub shoot the victims execution style?” Elena hummed in thought then laughed softly.
“I haven’t gotten that far.”
“It’s okay,” he brushed off, looking like he meant it. But there was an inflection in his voice that concerned Elena.
“What’s wrong?”
“There’s nothing wrong, Lena.” She shot him an unimpressed look.
“You can’t fool me, Malcolm Bright. You know better than that,” she scolded gently. Malcolm sighed, but thankfully pulled into Melissa’s driveway so he could get out of the conversation.
“I’ll tell you later,” he brushed off as he turned off the car.
“I’m holding you to that,” she shot back as they got out. Malcolm shook his head with a small smile then led her to the front door.
Elena ended up being right. The killer, Joseph Straum, was targeting people specifically who had a drug problem that led to divorce because he had to deal with it as a child. His father was a heavy cocaine abuser and in turn, his mother divorced him. Not long after their divorce was finalized, Joseph’s father broke into his mother’s house and shot her execution style.
Surprisingly, Joseph was easily apprehended and sent away. Everyone was absolutely exhausted, despite being a satisfying arrest and conclusion, it had been a long week of attempting to solve the case. Everyone had gone home, Elena thought that she was the last one there. She was surprised to see Malcolm still at his desk. She glanced at her phone. 10:00 p.m.
“Having trouble with your report?” She joked as she leaned against his desk. The man chuckled and shook his head before turning off his computer.
“No, actually, I was just trying to figure out how to get home.” Elena’s brows furrowed in confusion before recognition struck her.
“Oh my god your car is still at Claremont,” she realized. Malcolm smiled awkwardly then nodded.
“Yep, you picked me up.” Elena mentally facepalmed then ran her hands through her hair.
“I am so sorry Malcolm,” she sighed. “The gate to the hospital is probably already closed, isn’t it?” The man nodded yet again. “I’ll just give you a ride home.”
“You don’t have to do that Lena,” he protested immediately, but she wasn’t having it.
“Come on, I pass by your place on the way home anyway.” She grabbed her jacket then walked out, grinning when she heard him follow.
The ride home was pretty quick. They made pleasant conversation about their weekend plans then laughed when they realized neither of them had any.
“So what was wrong earlier? After we left Claremont?” Elena finally questioned once they were near his apartment. Malcolm paused then chuckled.
“I see you weren’t kidding when you said you’d hold me to it,” he joked.
“Don’t avoid the question,” she laughed. “Seriously, does it have something to do with your dad?” At the mention of his father, Malcolm’s smile dropped and his gaze went out the window.
“Doesn’t matter. Just promise me you’ll never go near him again, understand?” Elena was taken aback but his sudden shift in mood.
“What? Why?” She questioned.
“Just don’t go back there Elena,” he repeated defensively.
“Hey, no need to get snappy, I’m just trying to help you,” she retorted in the same tone.
“Well I don’t need your help,” Malcolm exclaimed, getting out of the car when she stopped in front of his building. He slammed the door closed, which scared Elena but also made her mad. So, she turned off the car and ran to catch up with him as he reached the door.
“What is your problem!” She all but yelled, grabbing his hand.
“Just leave it alone,” Malcolm hissed, attempting to pull away from her.
“No! I want to know why you’re acting this way, I haven’t-”
“I love you!” Malcolm yelled, whipping around and yanking his hand away. Elenena froze, her mouth dropping open. She didn’t have a chance to say anything before he continued.
“I love you,” he repeated. “And I can’t stand the thought of you seeing my father again because I just know that he’ll drive you away from me because that’s what he’s done with everyone else!” He ran his hands through his hair frustratedly. Both of them were silent for a few minutes as Malcolm attempted to calm down.
“What about Gil?” Elena asked calmly. Malcolm’s brows knit together and he faced her once more.
“What?”
“Did your dad drive away Gil?” She clarified, crossing her arms. “Or what about Dani? Or Edrisa or JT? They’ve met your dad several times before and guess what? They haven’t run away from you. In fact, they’re the closest people you can call friends.” Malcolm attempted to respond, but she cut him off. “And how about me? I’ve met your dad now and I’m more than willing to stay with you. And do you know why that is? Because I care about you, probably way more than I should, but dammit Malcolm, I love you too much to leave you, especially now!”
Elena had to force herself not to yell by the end of her rather passionate speech, but her voice raised enough to emphasize her point. She barely had a second to breathe before Malcolm grabbed her face and pressed his lips to hers. Instantly her arms went around him and was pulling him as close as physically possible as she kissed him back. They finally pulled away, though their noses still brushed against each other as they attempted to catch their breaths. Elena’s eyes opened just a bit and was met with Malcolm’s icy blue ones. A smile graced their faces in unison and they couldn’t help but laugh.
“I gotta say, that’s not what I was expecting out of this conversation,” she half joked, playing with the hair on the nape of his neck.
“Me neither,” he responded with a bright smile. “But I’m not complaining.”
“Me neither,” she repeated.
“Would you want to come in? I can make us dinner,” he offered, to which she nodded.
“I would like nothing more,” she responded, pressing another kiss to his lips before pulling away completely. Malcolm took her hand in his then led her inside, both with comically wide smiles on their faces.
