December 27, 2023 - Malaysian Pied-Fantail (Rhipidura javanica)
Found in parts of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore, these fantails live in wooded habitats and some open areas, usually near water. Foraging on or near the ground and joining mixed-species flocks, they feed on insects, capturing their prey in flight. They also follow monkeys and livestock, hunting insects disturbed by the larger animals. They build small cup-shaped nests from fine fibers and dry grass held together with spiderwebs in small trees, bushes, creepers, or bamboo and raise two to four broods per season.
