Did I just read your Super Sons primer from 2020 at 3 am on a Monday morning because I'm having a real normal one? Maybe?! I'm wondering how you feel about how they and their relationship has developed since then. IMO it's... Pretty bleak. 😩

I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT IT. (Also here's the primer for anyone who missed it.)

So I will say that 95% of everything Jon has been in since he got aged up has been hot garbage, but I do think the exception is when Damian is around. But let's take it from the top!

First of all, I don't necessarily think they should de-age him again. Generally speaking I think it's better storytelling to focus on fixing things moving forward, rather than undoing things moving back. Sure, if DC came up with some big cosmic event that reset Jon to 11, I certainly wouldn't complain, but I'd rather see them, uh...do literally anything with Teen Jon that doesn't suck.

But yeah, aging Jon up to begin with still makes me livid because:

I want my baby to have had a childhood.

It's fully character assassination for Lois and Clark. They would NEVER let their 11-year-old go to outer space with a supervillain. Lois would NEVER just abandon him out there, and Clark would NEVER respond with "Well, I'm sure he's fine, wanna have marathon sex?" I honestly have no idea what Bendis or his editor were thinking.

They have not done a single interesting with him since!!!

Putting this behind a cut because it got LONG. Also spoilers for Beast World in there.

I've said this before, but I have to assume that Bendis wanted to age Jon up because he wanted to write a Legion book. But he also in his wisdom decided to bring Kon back into continuity at exactly the same time, which means we have two nearly identical Superboys that DC didn't and still doesn't know what to do with. Kon clearly couldn't have joined the LOSH because he already had a team, but you know what Super teen was available, and not 11, and who has a history with the Legion that goes back almost as long as Clark's? KARA. But I will save that rant for another day.

And honestly, Kara dodged a bullet, because that Legion book was unreadable. Bendis at his most Bendis-y wall of text interrupt-y conversations and no plot. If I give Tom Taylor any credit it's that the second he got his hands on Jon, he torpedoed Jon/Imra as a ship. GOOD.

And when the LOSH book finally went out with a whimper (that JLA/LOSH miniseries! what was that!!!), we entered the Taylor Era. Taylor's quirks are less stylistic and more narrative than Bendis's. You can spot Bendisian dialogue at twenty paces, but a Taylor comic tips its hand when it sets up a really interesting premise or a really high stakes threat and then immediately undercuts it with a little wet fart noise of nothing. To wit:

Jon's starting college! This will be an interesting challenge for him to readjust to normal life after six years in a torture-volcano and an indeterminate amount of time in the future, and also considering he never graduated from sixth grade. I wonder what will - oh no he dropped out after three pages. (He has done NOTHING in his civilian identity since, btw. I guess he's too busy hovering just behind Dick at all times to work on his GED or whatever.)

Jon is going to confront Ultraman! Finally the comics will have to engage with all the trauma he must have - oh no Ultraman's dead.

Jon is trapped in the Injustice Universe! This is a really dangerous universe that might make him question everything he knows about - oh he just lectured everyone and flounced off home.

Beast World is a perfect example. Taylor seems to think that having a hero effortlessly solve a problem makes them look badass, but it's actually the effort that makes them look badass. So like, we spent five months keeping the Kryptonians and other A-class heroes away from the spores because the spores are attracted to power and if a Super got spore'd everyone would be in big trouble...but then in the last issue, they just have Jon fly up to everyone with a spore in them, wait for the spore to jump at him, and catch it? That doesn't make the Titans look smart or Jon look tough. It makes all of them look like idiots because it it was that easy, why didn't they do that in the first place?

On top of that, Taylor doesn't ever really earn relationships. Jon and Jay is the obvious one. Jay has no personality. There's no chemistry between the two characters. Jon might as well be dating a cardboard cutout labeled "Proof of Queerness." (Or "Bernard." Ahem.) But we're supposed to be like, yes, give Tom Taylor a GLAAD award for using queer characters as props, when he's going to turn around and kiss Chuck Dixon's ass on social for being homophobic about Jon? UGH.

Honestly worse for me though is the Jon and Dick relationship. Because Taylor is writing both characters, we're supposed to believe that there's this close mentor-mentee bond there? I don't think they EVER interacted before the Taylor era. (And don't even look at me with that retconned-in scene of Dick finding lost baby Jon. You're telling me that Superman, with his X-ray and telescopic vision, needs to call Bruce and Dick for help finding his own son? Fuck off.)

Anyway it all combines to make basically every Jon appearance for the past three years profoundly unsatisfying. Even the stuff that isn't by Taylor never goes anywhere. Remember when he was jealous of the Super Twins for two panels? And then everyone forgot about it forever? SIGH.

HOWEVER.

However.

If there is one thing that Bendis and Taylor and every other writer got right, it's that Jon is crazy bonkers in love with Damian always and forever. Jon has been written like shit since 2019, but he has also not wavered in his devotion for even one single solitary second.

THE EVIDENCE:

This is the first thing Jon does when he gets back to Earth:

He then tells Damian he's contemplating not joining the Legion because he'll have to leave Damian behind. Damian tells him to go and then come get him if it's cool.

Turns out the Legion is cool. Jon comes and gets Damian. The Legion isn't happy about it and Jon threatens to leave if Damian can't stay, while gazing adoringly at Damian's unconscious body cradled in his arms:

Eventually LOSH is canceled and Jon comes home and starts following Damian around by listening for his heartbeat. LIKE PALS DO!

Then Damian gives him a pep talk!

Then there's this ABSOLUTE CUDDLE:

The way Damian nuzzles into Jon's shoulder! Can you even stand it!

And then there's this:

The climax of Son of Kal-El, btw, is one of the several times Jon is saved by Damian and confides in Damian and turns to Damian for comfort or advice...and Jay is just sort of standing there off to the side. I am fully aware I have ship goggles on but the degree of emotional investment Jon has in these relationships is not the same.

Then they had a special issue teamup:

Then we got Dark Crisis, and I actually love this interaction between them, because they are very different people with very different upbringings and this feels extremely in character to me for how they would both handle the loss of their fathers:

But even when they disagree, they still instantly support each other. Jon comes back with information? Damian makes a plan:

Also, we got the 2022 Pride issue where Jon, Jay, and Damian go to Pride together. I know that story is...contentious...but leave me here with Damian sulking while Jon and Jay kiss, okay?

Then we get Adventures of Superman, which is objectively awful, but Jon does spend his whole time in the Injustice universe thinking about Damian like the seagulls in Finding Nemo saying "Mine? Mine? Mine?"

This whole arc is truly hilarious. Jon finds out that Damian accidentally killed Dick and his response is to a) go find Batman and yell at him for not supporting Damian enough for accidentally killing Dick, and then b) go find Damian to be like "Wow, that must have been really hard for you (accidentally killing Dick)." There's being ride or die for your BFF, and then there's whatever the fuck Jon has going on.

(Meanwhile there's an incredibly uncomfortable scene with him and Injustice Jay where Jay "tests" him by trying to get Jon to cheat on regular Jay. So. That happens.)

And then just this past month we got Nightwing #110, where we learn that Jon is still listening to Damian's heart:

He completely freaks out watching Damian in danger, and immediately intervenes when it looks like Damian is about to kill someone because he knows what matters the most to Damian. Also, this happens:

YOU WIN THIS ONE, TAYLOR.

AND THEN THEY BICKER I LOVE IT WHEN THEY BICKER:

AND THEN DAMIAN LETS HIMSELF BE VULNERABLE BY ASKING JON IF HE HURT ANYONE WHILE HE WAS A KITTY, AND JON GIVES YET ANOTHER SPEECH ABOUT HOW DAMIAN HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG EVER, IN HIS LIFE, AND DAMIAN STAGGERS OFF, LEANING ON JON.

This isn't even getting into the Trinity backup stories in Wonder Woman, which, like...Tom King is not valid but Jon and Damian are such an old married couple in them? It's truly incredible?

It took me like 45 minutes to parse Jon's line here as the general 'you" and not specifically Jon saying Damian wasn't straight. But like..."That's for straight people, which has nothing to do with us" is a hell of a thing to say, Jonathan.

I ALSO haven't even talked about DCeased because it's a different universe, but! Jon sitting with Damian while he dies??? MY HEART.

IN CONCLUSION:

Yes, they should never have aged up Jon.

Yes, most of his appearances since have been terrible and bland.

But OH BOY, do he and Damian remain in love.

so you know that thing some athletes do where they don’t fuck or relieve themselves before a major game because it’s supposed to increase their arousal and testosterone levels and shit so they play better?

think about vernon, who does that but for a whole week before a concert. think about vernon who, despite feeling really really bad, says he can’t even get *you* off because he’s got like a 35% chance of coming untouched just from eating you out, and he can’t risk it. he needs to be at his peak, so anything more than sweet kisses is off the table!!! (he even puts pillows between you while you sleep just in case he ends up grinding against your ass when he’s in dream limbo right before he wakes up.)

but every night he comes home from practices and he’s walking around in sweats and slutty little muscle vests and you just. want. to. DEVOUR. HIM. he *promises* he’ll make it all worth it afterwards, but it’s only day three of seven and the vibrator isn’t hitting the same and you’re like. yeah. this mf better make it worth it.

but B O Y. does he. DOES HE. he doesn’t even wait until he gets you back into your apartment to start it either, wayyyy too riled up & on a huge adrenaline high after the show. no no no. he’s sat texting you filth in the back of the cab, telling you all the ways he’s gonna wreck you as soon as you get home. it’s one of the few occasions where he isn’t whining and rutting up against you and begging for a taste; he’d go all out and he’d go all night. he’s NEVER so kinky as he is the night after a big concert, lord help you if there are several shows over the course of a few days because the wait is long and hard but the eventual fucking is longer && harder. if he doesn’t have to carry you to the breakfast bar the morning after (&make a meal out of you there, too<3), he’s FAILED.

Here I am again, bringing you a slice of my life in the beautiful Champagne region. It is currently 14c but I am assured, by Météo, that we will have 26c this afternoon. Unseasonably warm but I am not complaining after having spent a lot of the sunny days of summer in a hospital bed.

The Foire aux Bulles last Sunday turned out to be a successful day for the ladies of the knitting, crochet and patchwork group. Two of my items sold which was a nice surprise. Apparently, they were talking to a lady who is interested in joining the group, she sews as well so we may manage to attract more people if we offer that facility. the more the merrier I say.

While we are onto the good news, I really must pass on the wonderful news that “The Ex Psychology Graduate” received her grade for her dissertation and only went and got herself a first! She is now awaiting one more grade to calculate her overall Masters grade. Huge congratulations are in order 🥳🥳.

“The Trainee Solicitor”, celebrated his birthday and what a wonderful birthday he had. It has continued until the weekend (well why just keep it to one day!)

“The Daddy” has not had his children this weekend, he has been visiting elderly relatives and friends as well as working too. He has “irons in the fire” to make his work life more manageable, at the moment he has a long journey to and from work (I remember those days), to be able to reduce this is so much better, mentally, physically and financially. We will have to see what happens but I wish him luck.

I do believe I have employed my new cleaner 😃, she is coming on Monday and Thursday and I am so looking forward to that. She requested a step ladder, unfortunately I don’t have one and being unable to go out shopping I still haven’t got one. Maybe my neighbour could lend me his for this week so that she can clean the windows and the shutter housing.

I am still reliant upon my friends (and neighbour) to do shopping for me. It is so hard trying to think what to have to eat, at least if I was in the shops I may see something which catches my eye. As most of my friends cook from scratch (no convenience foods for them) one friend seems to not have the faintest idea of portion sizes. She was trying to buy me a 750g shepherds pie 🙄. I have to cook my food and eat it within 15 minutes, it cannot be reheated so I doubt I could have “polished that pie off” all by myself. I have been rather nauseous with no taste so it would have been a lot of waste I reckon. I was salivating this morning as I asked another friend if she could buy me some greek yoghurt, unfortunately the supermarket in town didn’t have any 😩, however, she is going out this afternoon (with her work) if she manages to catch the supermarket before it closes she will look to see if she can get some there.

Anie delivered some hot soup, compote and some jars of another concoction, I hadn’t the heart to tell her I couldn’t eat any of it, but I did send her the information leaflet I was given. She quickly responded saying you cannot eat any of that food! It is so sad because people are only being kind but I really need to keep myself “right” as I don’t want an upset tummy or worse while my immunity is still low.

Another success was phoning the plumber and arranging an appointment for him to service my central heating boiler.

My gardener pulled up outside of my neighbours house on Monday and I was trying to catch him about trimming my hedges. Typically, I turned my back and next time I looked he had gone! I did ring him and all he said was he would ring and let me know when he can come out. Well better than nothing I suppose.

It looks as if this week has been very successful for me, I like weeks like that!

Now let’s have a look at the songs I have chosen. It seems to be a recurring theme of musicians taken before their time but such is life and as I have said before they leave us with some fantastic songs that we can listen to again and again. So my first one this week is by Phil Lynott, the song is back to 1982, “Old Town”.

The second song I have chosen is an album track featuring the distinctive voice of a Middlesbrough (UK) born “lad”. The track is “Weep No More” from the album “Straight Shooter” by Bad Company released in 1975 (I remember it like it was yesterday) If you decide to listen to the album online (or even just want to hear this track) let it play the next track “Shooting Star” as it really was a toss up between these two tracks. Just this week I found out that Paul Rodgers had suffered a massive health scare 4 years ago. Although thankfully he appears to be fully recovered and has just released a new album.

The photos this week should be titled “What a difference a day makes” (cue for another song).

Well that just about wraps up my week for this week. There will be more from me next week!

So I got scared after all the chaotic posts regarding chapters 27 and 28 so I waited till 29 got released thinking I’d get a bit of fluff/levity and OH BOY WAS I SO SO WRONG LOL. THESE TWO CHAPTERS HAVE BEEN SO GOOD THEY FEEL TRULY CINEMATIC. I may or may not have cried multiple times while reading these chapters WOW. Just fucking brilliant writing. Y/N killing Maxwell - IM NOT A VIOLENT PERSON BUT OH MY GOD I WAS SO ECSTATIC.

I know you recommended a couple songs for the chapter as well as inserting lyrics to the plot but after listening to those songs before reading, I listened to a playlist while reading and IT FUCKING HIT every song matched up so well and I need to thank the internet gods for being on my side. During chapter 27 after batman and y/n visit Gordon and are getting ready Radiohead’s how to disappear completely played and it fit the mood and everything so perfectly wow. The sort of calm before the storm in a sea of bitter sweet melancholy. Then My Chemical Romance’s The ghost of you played during part i of the gala shabackle. Then a couple cure and deftone songs played the rest of chapter 27 going into 28. THEN THE BEST FUCKING PIN DROP WAS Cocteau Twin’s Persephone during the scene were Y/N kills Maxwell and just slathers herself in his blood. I wish I could bottle my feelings this story gives me and bathe in it holy hell. Your chapter releases give me so much joy (even with all the angst of this story) and I just hope you know how much your writing and creativity means to a lot of people.

I have to listen to those songs!! Someone else recommended to The Ghost of You & I listened to it on the way to work this morning and 🥵 It gave me goosebumps and made me tear up. Especially imagining it playing as he's like, smashing up everything in the bat cave and screaming 😩 Poor Bruce.

I'll listen to the other songs when I get a chance and comment on this post my thoughts 😊 thanks for sending them in!! I love seeing what songs make everyone think about this fic!

okay friends the next four days are not going to be much fun but soon the big end of semester events will be over and things will slow down 😩 I’ve spent the morning sending a million emails and prepping for this Monday event. here’s the rest of my to-do list:

this weekend is going to be so much… I am observing a student’s project implementation (a class session she’s teaching) and then debriefing with her after on campus on Saturday, and then I will have ten half-hour coaching sessions (a mix of zoom and in-person) for their symposium talks spread out across Sat/Sun. plus I have this brunch thing with college friends that has been rescheduled like thirty times lol and it’s going to be fine but it’s just like the least convenient weekend possible for it.

okay sigh. I’m going to give myself 11:20-12 to get back in bed and write/do some timeblocking around writing to make myself feel less stressed about this fest deadline. then I’ll get up and do my remaining work + meetings. I think if I can get the program and the outline of my opening talk done I will feel a lot better because then the weekend will just be coaching stuff and that is always just a matter of showing up, listening well, and giving a couple useful pieces of feedback.

My friend had a cousin I think who was a flight attendant and maybe I'm remembering wrong but I believe her route was to do what they called Maui Rounds. She would leave in the morning from LAX to Maui and return that same night. So I always assumed the travel between the 2 wasn't that long. Which makes me wonder why Yasmine couldn't work it out to film part of the week with NCIS and then the rest of the week in LA for her other project so she wouldn't miss out on half of the season. Cause even though she came back this week (though not with the team) and hopefully reunites with Kate on Monday and the rest of the team in the next couple of episodes, she'll be gone again for 2 more episodes after that. All I'm saying is we better get a shit ton of Kate and Lucy when she is back.

Yeah I wonder how much the travel is between the two as well. Because what happens if her show gets picked up? Is she just going to try and do both at once? But wait she’s still going to miss more episodes even after she’s back?!! Why?! I thought she’s confirmed to be in 2x16 and the surprise party is in 2x15. It’s crazy how much she ended up missing because there’s like 22 episodes in total right? So it’s wild that we’re almost at the end when you think about it by the time she’s back 😩 Hopefully they do get a bunch when she is back though

overall, the class sucked. the professor was a well-known hardass who assigned far too many lab projects, and seemingly took pleasure in giving bad grades.

yet, there was one aspect of ad-micro that really wasn't so bad... shockingly, it's the labs that you find that yourself enjoying, though it's not because of the lessons or the projects you spent hours doing research on.

it's that damn TA. with her high cheekbones, her smug look, and her tendency to rest her hand on you when she comes to answer your questions... she drives you even more crazy than the piles of homework that you have to juggle.

she knows exactly how to disarm you. as soon as you walk into the room, her eyes are on you. you feel her watching you whether she's across the room or right beside you. either way she manages to take your breath away. is it your imagination, or is she undressing you with her eyes from across the room?

one day, you ask her to help you adjust the setting on your microscope, and she places her hand on your lower back as she fine-tunes the magnification on the scope. you fight down a squeal as the tips of her fingers slip underneath the waistline of your shorts.

in class when you see her, she's nothing but cool and composed. she winks at you from where she sits slumped down in the front row with her legs spread obscenely. yet when she's called upon, she's totally engaged.

she knows the class material and the lab activities inside and out, better than even the professor it seems. she's the one who writes the study guides, and is known to stay late sometimes to help your struggling classmates study.. compared to the other ad-micro TAs, she's both entirely unapproachable and simultaneously the easiest one to talk to.

in the labs, she's a rock star. she's the only TA who consistently shows up to every single lab and class - she has to work hard to distinguish herself and to keep up her image.

and work hard she does. does she even sleep? if the dark circles under her eyes are any indication, she skips out on that. when she isn't in the ad-micro lab you see her hanging around on the outskirts of campus with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth as she talks to her friends in graduate school.

you're caught off-guard when she asks if you want to get coffee with her after the ad-micro lecture one Monday morning. soon enough, it becomes a weekly thing. she's kinder than you realized she could be when she offers you her notes from when she took the class back when she was in your year.

when she invites you over to her place, you learn that she has a really nice off-campus apartment in an expensive part of town. she picks you up in a car that easily costs a years worth of your tuition.

it shouldn't surprise you. she looks like she comes from money, but she doesn't flaunt it. you notice that she wears designer brand clothing, but you only catch glimpses of the labels as the garments come off. once the clothes are strewn on the floor, you don't much care about them anymore.

while you're at a party, a frat boy makes the mistake of flirting with you in front of Yelena. she literally steps between him and you and stares him down until he slinks away. she immediately shotguns two cans of beer without flinching, just to assert her dominance.

not like anybody would dare fuck with her to begin with.

later, she plucks a joint directly from somebody else's lips as she walks past. she cups your chin to blow the smoke into your mouth, then kisses you deeply in front of everyone. her hands wander and you can't resist the urge to yank her closer by the collar.

at some point, she pulls you up onto her lap. it doesn't seem like an accident when her knee wedges between your legs to press right up against you. it makes you squeal, but if anything, you grind down into her touch.

you've never seen somebody so academically successful, or all around privileged, have such a casual disregard for breaking the rules. nobody dares to argue with her, and you feel invincible when you're on her arm.

one day, after all of the other students have cleared out of the lab, she closes the door before you can leave. she braces her arm up against the wall and stands in the way of the exit.

"going so soon?" she asks, sticking her bottom lip out in a pout. "i wanted to talk to you about... something else."

you decide to stick around. what starts out with your notes spread across a lab table with Yelena adding annotations, ends with your panties around your ankles and her fingers buried two-and-a-half knuckles deep inside of you.

she makes you cum so hard that your vision goes white. it leaves you burning red and embarrassed when she licks you off of her fingers, but it sends a thrill down your spine that makes you desperately want to come back for more.

most of the time, she fucks you in the lab. it seems like she's partial to having you splayed out on the lab tables themselves. sometimes with the way she takes several long moments to drink in the sight of your body, it makes you feel like you're a specimen she's studying.

you're so into it. would it really be so bad for somebody to see how completely you belonged to her? for somebody to walk in and know that somebody as imposing as Yelena had eyes (and lips... and tongue...) for you? certainly not. hell, your classmates would be so jealous.

Yelena gets you off more than once, more often than not. after what feels like an eternity of shaking legs and bucking hips, she kisses your thighs and pats the side of your hip.

after she cleans you up, she takes you back to her apartment. she leaves the windows down and lights a cigarette, and the feeling of the night air blowing through your hair is unparalleled. you can feel the buzzing of neon signs in your veins, and your heartbeat echoes to the bass thrumming in the car.

she holds your hand, and once again you feel like you can do anything. at the very least, you're going to get a hell of a good grade in ad-micro...

Sorry, there are a few split second frames that shouldn't be in here, but I have to actually get up this morning, so this is what you get 🙇‍♀️

Honestly, except for scenes the episode trailers have included, I'm not in the least bit sure what'll happen. But I gave it a stab anyway.

So Leon keeps chasing Pob, which includes giving the cat collar.

Which leads to the 2nd Leo question.

Then Pob approaches Leo directly.

I'm not certain if Leo will speak to Pob before or after Fiat asks about Pob. The reason he goes with "friend of a senior" could be entirely because bringing Leon into a conversation with Fiat isn't exactly Fiat's favourite thing. Plus, "oh the guy Leon has a crush on" could be considered spilling secrets and handing Fiat ammunition (Leo doesn't know Leon's already told Fiat). Dealing with spoiled brats competing for your attention is hard work 😩

But I went with before because... well it works I guess? Possibly just because I've gotten used to thinking of it in that order.

But Fiat gets right on the "plan"... I guess Leon helped him fight past his remaining shyness at least? 😅

He only asks about Pob after they've showered.

Pob updates his cat about how Leon's making him feel.

Fiat tries to upkeep the house. Since there's no maid and he's trying to be a good boyfriend.

Leo finds him struggling with dishes and we get a cute scene.

Then Fiat finds Leo in an apron, since of course Leo doesn't want Fiat to do all the work. And we get another cute scene.

I included an implication of Fiat jumping Leo in school as a continuation of the "plan".

Not sure if the rose if from Leo or for Leo; if they arranged a court date and Leo didn't show or something? At any rate, I think Fiat was waiting for Leo to show when Leon came.

My first feeling is that Fiat would go forward, not run away, when Pob & Leo are "caught". But possibly he'd go forward, have his say, then storm off, ignoring Leo?

Including the Leon & Leo bed scene here is partly because I can't think of a better time to have it. It can lead to Leon explaining... something to Leo, which can lead to LeoFiat resolution, a move intended to earn forgiveness for Leon from viewers?

That resolution includes/leads to a court date to make up for the messy one.

Meanwhile LeonPob go on a kind of date.

And we end on a cute scene just because. 🤷‍♀️

(Of course, it's quite possible the ep will end with the "caught" scene - just like ep 4 ended with the library scene that had been included in the ep trailer.)

I know I said I'd keep putting the girl into the next ep, but I've changed my mind. I think she'll get an ep to herself eventually.

So I think future eps will include

parents return (prob ep 6)

curly hair (ep 7? We have a fair amount of preview, and the bulk of time in the early previews belong to earlier eps. Family drama seems likely to be the finale.)

Fiat family drama (ep 10-12)

girl (ep 9? We're running out of eps, but it could be a light ep before the big ones)

Pob's deal (side story through ep 10-12 to maximise the ep 11 effect - this will include his crying scene)

itsa me, santa!! here on this awesome (joshua michael) monday, december 6th.

about your last answer... i completely understand because im the exact same way!! i havent read a real, new book in quite some time - mostly fanfic and random amazon uhhhhhh spicy novels/series. anything i have read recently has just been me rereading those same classics - twilight, the selection series, pjo/hoo, ya know... or some of my other older favs.

i dont really have any new, fancy, and/or fun book recs :(((( buttttt out of my fav comfort books i highly recommend “between shades of gray” & “out of the easy” by ruta sepetys if you havent read them!! theyre historical fiction. any of huntley fitzpatrick’s books are good, theyre a little fluffy but have 10x the depth any sarah dessen book could ever have. and “eleanor & park” makes me cry every time!! ooo and the “american royals” series (current duology but i think getting a third?) is soooo good, multiple perspectives and all are really well characterized. theyre all ya lit but honestly just so good, fairly easy to read but still well written and make you actually want to keep reading.

anywayssssss enough about my fav books i want to hear about you!!! and since i know im later than usual sending my message - (im so sorry pls forgive me, i didnt forget u i promise, it just got a little busy up here in the north pole) - im just gonna throw some easy(ish) questions at ya...

Good morning Secret Santa!! Unfortunately I wasn’t having the best night last night and I fell asleep before I saw your notification but that’s okay!! I’m already having a better morning answering these questions, so let me be the first to say happy (Jacob Thomas) Tuesday to you!!

Honestly it was really affirming to see that you too have slowed down on the physical books in recent years. I get a lot of flack from my older brother, who is very much still a book boy, for not being “into actual reading anymore.” I’m definitely going to look into your suggestions though- I love historical fiction, my senior thesis screenplay was a historical fiction!!

Well let’s get into this because quite honestly, Santa, I could talk your ear off all morning about both Danny and fanfic tropes.

I don’t know what it is about him. I’d liken it to the way I feel about cats vs. dogs, the way I feel about him vs. the Kiszkas. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs. If I see a dog on the street I will 9/10 times point it out. Dogs make me very happy and sometimes a cute enough dog will come around to get me really excited. But when I see a cat— any cat— my heart just melts into a puddle. I literally have, like, tunnel vision focus on that cat until it leaves the vicinity because I immediately love it and want to give it affection. Basically my heart could burst when I see any given cat ever. Yes, this makes living in a city quite the emotional rollercoaster.

But that’s the only thing I can relate how I feel about Danny to, it’s just different from the others. I’ve always been one to root for the underdog of sorts- I never have a favorite of anything who’s the expected answer (main character/protagonist, frontman, etc). I want that guy in the back who isn’t getting the love and attention he deserves. Like, across the board, every fanbase I’ve been in this has been the commonality for me. There’s something about his kind and gentle nature combined with his sense of humor that peeks out every so often and his insane talent and physical appearance that just absolutely takes my breath away every time. Plus, the fact that he’s managed to find and maintain a loving stable relationship (with THAT lifestyle) like he’s found with Mackenzi only makes me love him more, she seems like an absolute sweetheart and I couldn’t be happier that he has found love like that for himself. I can only hope I will one day; find the Danny to my Kenzi.

I’ve been reading fanfiction for a while, majority of my teenage years really, so I definitely do have some favorite tropes. I feel like this can be a very revealing question to ask, at least for me, because I always thought that the kind of fanfiction you seek out can serve as a reflection for what you want, what’s missing in your life. Starting more broadly, I’d say my favorite to write is a good friends-to-lovers. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind pre-established relationship fics, but there’s something that gets me a little more excited when I realize there’s going to be an admission of feelings by the end of the story. In a way, it’s probably because I’ve always wanted that for myself. In that same vein, I also get really excited (in a very confusing way as a feminist) to see fics with any sort of variation on the “damsel in distress” plot line. I love the idea of being rescued, saved from my dire situation by a knight in shining armor. Very classic, very cheesy, I know.

I also sometimes like fics with danger in general- somebody gets hurt on accident, or on purpose. Or even non-physical danger, like when the relationship is forbidden (but not in a im-cheating-on-my-partner-with-you way, I’m not down w that). I want the stakes to be high, ya know? I’ve never been super into writing the more slice-of-life fics, I need that plot structure. Finally, to get more specific, I’m an absolute sucker for a soulmates!AU, or anything with a supernatural element. Like I mentioned before, my reading foundation before I found fanfiction was fantasy novels, so whenever I find a fic that marries both I get extra excited (like how excited I get when I get a Lost Boys notification from @tlexx). The real perfect marriage was the couple years when I was writing and reading fanfiction for Teen Wolf around like 2014. That was really interesting because the stakes could literally be life or death and you didn’t have to write a ton of prior circumstance to get there, it’s just part of the show.

Thank you again for these questions, I don’t really share this hobby of mine with a lot of people irl so I don’t really get asked about things like this but both are things I spend time considering! I’ve been really looking forward to getting your messages this past week, so thank you Santa❣️

Greetings from a blustery and rainy Bar-sur-Aube, where the temperature is currently 12c (brrrr). At least yesterday morning was a lot kinder and I took advantage to go into town to take these photographs.

The video call with Bristol friends did not go ahead last week as the man broke his wrist and ended up waiting to be discharged from hospital (not a quick process, I know!) We are aiming to have the call this afternoon.

I went into town on Tuesday, as the photographer was back from his week’s holiday. I explained about the photograph for my UK passport and he took another photo and emailed it to me. I hurried home to start the application process and the photo was perfect, the application easy and all in all took me no time at all to spend £100+ quid 😩. I managed to post off my old passport on Thursday, well I took it to the post office and hopefully it is not still sitting on the shelf!

The books I ordered last week arrived at the end of this week which was very fortunate as I had just finished my last book. I am pleased as I can take a book into hospital with me next week. I am looking to place an order for some more books as I know these will soon be read.

Two of my cousins have had birthdays this week, I sent messages wishing them a Happy Birthday, it’s nice for people to remember your birthday and it doesn’t have to be a card that you receive. They were both pleased that I had remembered and were going to celebrate, one with a meal with family and the other, a meal with friends.

I have had lots of messages from friends and relatives in the UK plus French friends have been in touch too. Everyone wanting to know how I am feeling and what is happening now with regard to my treatment. When I was in town yesterday, I met a couple that I know, the lady was an English teacher, although on this occasion she spoke to me only in French. I replied in French (well until I had to add a bit of detail about my treatment), her husband did suggest that she spoke in English but I was pleased that she ignored him and spoke only in French. It is what I need and although my tenses are not really good I do manage to make myself understood. After quite a lovely walk around the town, I went to the bar for a coffee. It was the first time since just before I went into hospital, that I had been in and the proprietor, Christophe, was surprised to see me. He asked if I had been on holiday so I told him no, just to the hospital in Troyes. It was really nice to go in and it felt like my “usual” Saturday visit. I must admit that I did feel exceptionally well, even walking around the town was pleasurable and I wasn’t out of breath or in any sort of pain which made the walk much better.

I was going to wear trousers on Saturday and I took them out of the wardrobe knowing that they would now fit across my stomach. Well I put them on and found them a little loose on the waist but I was not prepared for the sight of myself in the mirror…….. I know I have lost weight and knew that it had gone from my “derrière” but the trousers looked like jodhpurs! They were loose at the front and back, plus the hips were loose by an excessive amount and my legs were like sticks inside the trousers. Well it looks as if they will be heading to the charity shop now.

“The Daddy” was taking his son back to his partners house on Monday, but he decided to go over early and have a “boys only” day. They went on the little train, which my grandson really enjoyed. I think they had been into Peasholm Park to see the ducks, and geese. Plus they spent time in Scarborough just the two of them. What a wonderful treat for a little boy, Daddy’s undivided attention.

Today, “The Daddy” is in Peterborough, he is the volunteer photographer for Scarborough Athletic Football Club so will be taking the photos of the game. Unfortunately, Scarborough were beaten 1-0 so the fans will just be drowning their sorrows I would imagine. There was heavy rain and I do hope that the photographer managed to keep himself and his equipment dry.

“The Trainee Solicitor” has been busy at work but is finding time to relax in the evening. For some people relaxing involves having a drink in their hand but for him and his partner it involves having a book in their hands. They are both avid readers and just enjoy the relaxing time it provides. For myself, my book reading time is when I get into bed, it’s a great way for me to wind down in the evening.

I think we are all hoping for the sun to put in an appearance again, not that I can complain too much as the sun has been out today as well as having a heavy rain storm earlier this afternoon. It is due to be rather windy again this evening but the good weather is due back here next week (probably the days I am in hospital 😂).

Pauline is back in town for one week and is then returning to Dublin. She said she finds it hard to cope with the grey days and the temperatures. It brought to mind why I think I love my life here so much, it has to do with the light. Even today when it’s windy and rainy there is still light and that really does lift your mood.

Anyway, as she walked into my house, one of her first comments was “Wow, you have lost so much weight, I think you must have lost about 20kg”. Thinking back to when I last saw her I think she is spot on with that figure. Well I may have put extra grammes on now as she brought cream slices for us to have with a cup of tea. We talked and talked, the alarm went off for my 7pm tablets and we were still talking. It was so wonderful to catch up with all her news and of course she wanted to hear all about how I was doing. When she left I was in no mood to prepare my evening meal so I just ate a sandwich, watched a bit of news then went off to bed.

oh i love bubble tea! what's your usual order? the thing with the barista might've been a bit unfortunate, esp since he was so nice. if you see him again you could mention that you don't like "miss"? you could joke it feels too fancy/formal/old-fashioned. well, if you don't want to bother that's valid too.

tbh!! you once said something like "im not here to be an example im just here to live my life" (well not exactly like that) and i feel like I'll remember it forever bc it was 👏🏽so👏🏽cool👏🏽of you. i could write an entire essay on the whole subject of having bad habits (like everyone) and expected to be 100% clean (specifically online), but i feel like i would touch controversial terittory.

anyways! my saturday plans are sit in the corner of my bed and cry while studying for my history exam tomorrow:) i have to admit I've gotten better at memorization, but i still have to study a minimum of 7 hours everytime we take a test, so what is the point really. Sunday will be the exam, then playing some genshin and catching up on hw.... and just like that this weekend will be gone. mark my words ill find something fun to do next week!! (and then bomb my latin exam)

ob yeah EXACTLY damn i really have memory loss bc i can't remember saying that but at the same time makes sense bc well IT'S TRUE,,,, and tbh big same, i sometimes worry abt young people who look up to someone just because they're older, i used to do that shit and it took me some time to realize that it's really not their place 💀

OKAY SO When it comes to flirting, Derek is always on his game, but when it comes to finding date activities, he lacks that skill very VERY much. Bagg wanted to find a way to combine going on dates with Nick, making up for the week they spent apart, and having to go to his job...SO he brings Nick as a “special guest” to train the kids like they would be at the police academy. LOL but when Bagg picked Nick up from his house on a Monday morning at 7:45, Nick was still in his robe and his hair a mess like “What are you doing here so early? I mean I’m glad you’re so exited to go out with me but can’t it wait until shops actually open up?” And Derek brushes it off like “Don’t worry about it, get in the car babe.” Nick is still in his robe with the sneakers he put on, giving the most confused look at Bagg who is tapping his hands on the steering wheel to what’s on the radio, and Nick is like “so are you gonna tell me where we’re going?” Glancing at him, Bagg nods over to his big soccer bag in the backseat saying “I have some clothes in that bag, throw them on I’m sure you’re going to want to wear it to what we’re doing” okay and maybe the thought of wearing Bagg’s gym clothes got Nick very flustered and turned on and it doesn’t help when Derek’s like “you look so hot wearing my clothes, look at how tiny you are wearing them. Pretty sure everyone’s gonna notice that you’re wearing my clothes, let them know you’re mine.” And he slaps Conforth’s ass before he sits back down. Damn. 😩😩😩 Nick is like “you know we can just go back to my place and you can take them off of me🥴 then I can make us a proper breakfast instead of these half eaten cliff bars.” and if Nick was confused before about where they’re going, he’s even more confused. He at least thought they’d be going hiking or something, but when they turn into the School’s parking lot, things start to make a lot more sense. “We’re going to school???” As Nick watches Bagg take out the soccer bag and school keycard, Bagg’s like “Cmon babe it’ll be fun! You were whining about not spending quality time with me last week and i wanted to make it up to you.” Conforth is like why, of all people, am I so attracted to him 😩😩😩 but he thinks it’s romantic in some regard so he’ll let this slide. OKAY SO LIKE they get inside to set up for the class Nick would be co-teaching with Bagg, after Bagg finally explained what they would be doing, and when the kids begin walking into the gym they see Nick and they start yelling at how exited they are, because to them, he’s still the cool chaperone for letting them watch a movie in Conbagg’s room 🥺 So it’s hilarious when the kids listen and follow everything Nick tells them to do and not as much as Bagg and Derek whispers at his like “wtf how do you do that??” And Nick winks at him all smug. SO the first class is dismissed and the kids did great but what Nick didn’t know is that they have another class in class to teach in an hour; so when Nick pulls Derek into his office for a steamy make out session that maybe turned into Derek actually taking their shirts off🥴 Nick didn’t expect for someone to knock at the door half an hour later. Bagg takes his mouth off of Nick’s neck, reddened skin forming a very noticeable hickey again, saying “I got the door, it’s not the kids don’t worry.” LOL so Nick takes his hand out of Bagg’s shorts 😩 and he puts on his shirt, Bagg opening the door to find Mrs. Eikleberry waiting outside expectantly, chewing on her pen like “I almost thought you forgot about our session today.” OH NO CONFORTH LOOSES IT, WHY DOES EVERYONE WANNA TAKE HIS SWEATY GYM COACH MAN😩😩😩 HE DOESNT REALIZE ITS NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE so Bagg better have some explaining to do 😤🥴🥴
