Runaway Royal (Ketterdam AU)

Queen Keyen Kir-Taban is dead and her dying wish was for Princess Ehri, her second child, to become Queen of Shu Han. But Ehri never wished the throne for herself and so she gives it to Makhi, her older sister. The problem is, Makhi doesn’t have the love of the people. It becomes obvious that, as long as Ehri lives, she will always be a threat to her reign, whether the latter wishes to rule or not. 

Ehri is prepared to die but Mayu Kir-Kaat won’t let it happen and betrays her Queen to save Shu Han’s last hope for peace. Ehri just has the time to witness Mayu get stabbed through the heart before she flees the palace (unbeknownst to Ehri, Mayu actually survived and is being held captive until Makhi decides it is the right time to lure her sister back into the country).   

She finds refuge in the Barrel of Ketterdam, a place known to nurse fugitives and birth criminals. She subsist on the few crumbs of money she gets from entertaining people on the street with her music and her singing. Eventually, she’s offered a job at the Crow Club and refuses without explanation (because she cannot afford to draw to much attention to herself). One of the Crows is sent to investigate the reasons of that absurd refusal of a perfect opportunity to have a regular income and a much more comfortable life… Who is this Shu girl with impeccable diction and posture and what is she hiding? But, most of all, HOW MANY KRUGE HIDE BEHIND THOSE SECRETS OF HERS?

Zoyalai au where character A saves character B’s royal ass

o before RoW

o these are just headcanons-

o characters: Zoya Nazyalensky, Nikolai Lantsov, Tamar kir-Bataar, Tolya yul-Bataar, Genya Safin, Makhi kir-Taban – all belong to Leigh Bardugo

o enjoy 

*side note: if they have flying ships they also have cars because i said so.*

• Nikolai and Zoya had to attend a political meeting in Shu Han, Tamar and Tolya also being there cause they have to make sure they all get home in one piece-

• Little did they knew Queen Makhi had other plans for them

• After the meeting they all head to the car to go back to the ship

• Suddenly a bullet flies right past Nikolai’s left ear and hits the wall behind him

• They are being fired at from more directions

• Tolya grabs both Nikolai and Zoya and pushes them towards the car while Tamar starts shooting assassins left and right

• Zoya pulls out a gun and starts firing back while Tolya and Nikolai get in the car

• Tolya gets in the drivers seat and Nikolai in the one next to him while shouting after Zoya and Tamar to get in

• They get in the back seats in the last moment as Tolya drives them away

• Zoya is fighting with Nikolai to let her in the front seat and Nikolai’s not having it

• ”You’re the king idiot! Get back here before they put a bullet in between your eyes!”

• ”So they can put one in yours?? Absolutely not.”

• And go back and forth like that until an angry Tamar tells them to stop fighting like idiots and start being usefull

• Not even 3 seconds later a bullet breaks through the window and stops right between Zoya and Tamar

• ”Gangsta by Kehlani starts playing”

• Bulets start hitting the front of the car-

• Another car is driving right towards them

• ”My freakness is on the loose

And running, all over you

Please take me to places, that nobody,

Nobody goes-”

• Zoya jumps in the front seat, grabs Nikolai and pulls him at her chest, covering his head with her hands to pull him aside and also pushing Tolya with her feet to protect them from the bullets that break through the window and hitting the seats

• Meanwhile Tamar grabs a big gun from the back of the car and halfway gets out the window to kill some bitches

• ”You got me hooked up on the feeling

You got me hanging from the ceiling-”

• Literally starts destroying everyone with that gun so Tolya can drive them to the flying ship

• He takes a right turn at a corner and they lose track of the shooters for a moment

• Zoya slightly lets go of Nikolai who had put his arms around her in the meantime and was holding her tight

• *eye contact*

• ”Got me up so high I’m barely breathing

So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me,

Don’t let me go’’ (yes i had to be dramatic with the song.)

• *FEELS-*

• Feels interrupted by Tolya suddenly pressing the breaks

• Zoya climbs off of Nikolai’s lap (bc how else could she had fit in the front seat-) and lets him get out of the car

• The shooters could not stand behind ofc but now the grisha and soliders on the flying ship waiting for them are finally being helpfull and are covering them so they can all get inside safely

• The ship rises in the air and they finally get out of there

*a few hours later*

• Nikolai: so…are we not going to talk about what happened? …

• Zoya: no.

• Tamar, turning to Genya: those fucking idiots-

• Genya: …

as a fandom I don't think we talk about Makhi Kir-Taban enough

i mean with a title like "Born of Heaven, Most Celestial Highness" we pretend she's not the girlboss we all want to be? She's cunning, strong, morally grey ambitious, canonically hot, and if she were the main character everyone would be rooting for her. I mean she's such a great character she just wasn't good.

But Ehri never wished the throne for herself and so she gives it to Makhi, her older sister. The problem is, Makhi doesn’t have the love of the people. It becomes obvious that, as long as Ehri lives, she will always be a threat to her reign, whether the latter wishes to rule or not. 

Ehri is prepared to die but Mayu Kir-Kaat won’t let it happen and betrays her Queen to save Shu’s last hope for peace. Ehri just has the time to witness Mayu get stabbed through the heart before she flees the palace (unbeknownst to Ehri, Mayu actually survived and is being held captive until Makhi decides it is the right time to lure her sister back into the country).   

She finds refuge in the city of Ketterdam, a place known to nurse fugitives and birth criminals. A few days in, someone breaks into her hiding place and her jaw drops when she recognizes Ravka’s tsesarevich. Vasily Lantsov, her one time childhood friend (and her sister’s short-lived crush, is standing before her, dressed in peasants clothes like her. She drops the dagger she’d planned to use against the intruder and rushes into his arms. She’s relieved he isn’t dead like she’d heard. The tale of his horrible death has been spreading like wildfire. He’d suffered till his last breath, they said, devoured by the Darkling’s shadow creatures, they said. Lies.  

Ehri doesn’t speak Kerch, although her ravkan is impeccable, and doesn’t know anything about gambling. As for Vasily, the poor thing has never cooked in his life whereas Ehri has spent a lot of time hanging out in the kitchens with the servants growing up and learned many tricks to be self-sufficient since her dream had always been to live the commoner life. As time goes by, they learn to rely on and trust each other. They have to. One needs good allies in The Barrel. The plan is simple : survive.  

The Darkling sits on the Ravkan throne and Makhi rules Shu Han with an iron fist. Despite their differences, the two nations are finally united like they were supposed to several years ago before a rift was created between the Lantsov and the Taban bloodlines. But it becomes clear through their violent methods that neither the Darkling nor Makhi are bothered by collateral damages as long as they get results.  

Surviving will not be enough, it seems. Whether Vasily and Ehri want it or not, they’re gonna have to fight and claim their respective birthright. As they begin their journey to claim back what is rightfully theirs and save their nations, they are betrayed by their allies who hand them over to The Darkling and when everything seems lost, they are rescued by an unlikely ally and privateer that bears the name Sturmhond whom the Darkling had originally hired to capture them.

The real reason Ravka is losing the war because the First Army has so incompetent drill sergeants and officers that some people (I'm looking at you Alina and Mal) don't know the basics of military, even after 5+ years of service.

Just imagine the Fjerdan and Shu laughing at their spies' reports from the First.
