totk spoilers but are we ACTUALLY meant to think it’s poetic or flattering or triumphant that Rauru was like “oh YEAH? Well in thousands of years this guy called Link is gonna kick your ass”
How much has he even heard about Link? He must have had at least one more conversation about him with Zelda because the Master Sword doesn’t come up in the Zelda and Sonia tear, and by the King’s Duty tear Rauru’s just like oh don’t worry, if we don’t finish Ganondorf off I’m sure your bf can handle him. As I’ve said before, his “We rely on your knight” line rubbed me the wrong way starting with its appearance in the trailer, and it really does not feel less entitled after watching said knight (and that legendary sword he carries) very very VERY nearly get one-shotted by Ganondorf at the beginning of the game. And Zelda knows this! What does she feel watching her Better Dad Substitute sacrifice himself and simultaneously sic the evil bad guy on Link—a siccing which explicitly shapes Ganondorf’s attitude towards Link at the beginning of the game? At what point did she have the emotion of “welp. I know why Ganondorf knew Link’s name now.” The musical blending of the LOZ theme/hero’s theme with Rauru’s theme seems to suggest that it’s not an emotion meant to be had at exactly that moment, but I cannot watch Rauru sneer “remember that name” without yelling HE DOESN’T NEED THAT INFORMATION at the screen.
I played through the GSI in Japanese recently and Rauru did seem a touch less entitled to Link than I’ve been reading him—mostly because of the formal, polite, outgroup-equal language he used with him—but I still can’t get over the extent to which Rauru heard about Link a few times and decided, sight unseen, that he was going to clean up Rauru’s mess. My man what made you think that. What gave you the right to decide that. And how frightening to be Zelda and watch Rauru pin all the world’s hope on her beloved knight who Ganondorf absolutely fucking wiped the floor with. We see this worry in her in the Master Sword in Time cutscene! To what extent can Zelda’s transformation and before that her petition to the other tribes of Hyrule for Link’s sake be understood as a forced action due to Rauru’s conviction that Link could do this no sweat? Almost entirely, I feel—but does the game know that?
I just. Isn't it intentional? Doesn't it have to be? The fact that Rauru already needs the correction, once, that he cannot and should not face the Demon King alone. Then his melodramatic claim that Link has got this on lock. Then Zelda being like 😬 not sure about this actually and going through the whole process of talking to the ancient sages + draconifying for the sake of the Master Sword. Because Rauru absolutely set Link up to fail and Zelda is the one making sure Link has the resources, including the support of others, he needs to succeed. And the game is so much about community, about not doing things on your own.
And yet the way the scene is scored and animated and the way all the other characters talk about Rauru's sacrifice seems to treat this as a a moment of culmination, of triumph. I am getting such mixed messages here.
Understand, I’m saying all of this with an aching fondness for this poor self-deluded hypocrite. And also teeth-grinding frustration. I think he deserves to feel suffocatingly humiliated when Link almost didn’t survive Ganondorf’s attack and I also have tremendous sympathy for the shame and terror that it might be far too late to correct his mistake that he must have felt as he waited for Link to wake up. Both of those things. Hopelessly lonely man who found people to love him and built himself into a role he was never adequate for. I wish the game looked at this a little more. I wish I could tell if the game intended this at all.
(This is not the most intelligently written post but I assure you I mean every word of it.)

I saw this video and IT'S SO JADE LEECH CODED 😭😭
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyUZSkBJ-A3/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
(link)
LOL OH, HE SO WOULD...... Jade Leech, you are a creature and a specimen and a strange guy. I want to study you under a microscope. Do you think he'd gather blood/skin samples of the other NRC students to see which one the cordyceps would prefer more? orz I also found this video (warning for bones) and it made me think of sk!Jade. ^^;;; he is always up to some experiment that makes you question whether it's truly ethical or morally right. Knowing Jade and how sly he is, it's just within those parameters. ;;;;;

if you want to talk about pcos dew use this as a reason because im very in love with the idea
(this is all based on my own experiences with pcos and follows tried and true methods of helping things feel a little less shitty. also god i wish i had a Rain and Mountain ghoul to do these things for me hdsbjdf)
okay so Mountain and Rain look after Dew the most whenever his pcos is causing issues. Mountain keeps his raspberry plants growing all year round just so they can make tea from the leaves to help with Dew's cramps. they'll both encourage him to sit up from where he's been led in his bed, curled up around his middle with his hands pressed onto his abdomen like heat pads. Mountain will lay him up against his chest and replace Dew's hands with his own. they're warm like stones left out in the sun all day and that combined with gentle massages means they help ease the pain a little. Rain passes him his tea and feeds him the iron rich meals that they both prepared for him. the tea doesn't have any real flavour itself but its loaded with honey from Mountain's bees and Dew loves it.
they encourage him to go on walks when he can manage it, even if it is just a few laps around his room or down the corridor to the ghoul den and back. they let him lean on them whenever he needs to. when his cramps are so bad that he can't move about too much Mountain will carry him around and take him outside for fresh air. Normally Dew's in too much pain to actually pay attention to what Mountain's saying about each of the plants but the sound of his voice and steady heartbeat against his ear help distract him from the pain somewhat.
when Dew needs help getting cleaned up Mountain will change any sheets and put any clothes and other soiled stuff in the wash while Rain helps Dew clean up. sometimes all he can manage/needs is a quick shower where he'll lean up against Rain with his eyes closed and let the water ghoul do the work. other times baths are better especially on the more painful days. they'll sit in the tub together and again Dew will let Rain do all the work while he rests. the warm water soothes his pain and the steam helps if he has a migraine.
when they all lay down to sleep together in Mountain's big bed, Mountain will emit lavender and chamomile scents to help Dew sleep through the discomfort and pain. if he cant get to sleep even with that, though, Rain stays awake with him for as long as he needs (Mountain can't help falling asleep as the sun goes down bur Rain is always staying up late anyway). they talk or watch films or tv shows on Mountain's laptop and Rain does everything he can to help distract Dew from the pain and discomfort for long enough so that he can fall asleep. Dew really appreciates his company. he appreciated both of their efforts so so much. and how the rest of the pack helps too! but Rain and Mountain genuinely do not leave his side the whole time.
(aaa i also have some nsfw thoughts on the matter but maybe those are for another post ;3)

FURINA!!!! shes still not a fave (yet) but holy shit WHAT IS THE DEAL!! "the penalty is a death sentence" what do you mean. what do you mean!!!!!!
the version art with like 4 of her is SO GOOD. so good. amazing incredible showstopping. like look at this!!!!! the symbolism?? superb
Tumblr media
also furina's alt outfit (the black version of her suit) is SO FUN!! I like the dark colors it's refreshing and has some nice contrast :3
thank you for bringing navia back I miss my golden buttercup (but she sounds like she's going through it this vers.. :'))
NEW REGION !?!?!?!?!? the golden tree and ethereal scenery holy shit im going there immediately. it looks more ancient/antediluvian than anything fontaine has shown so far (aka mostly 19th century inspirations). im so hyped I love ancient ethereal trees (shoutout to tree of barsom, harvisptokhm, mt. kanna's giant tree on tsurumi, nantianmen's tree etc)
furina and charlotte's themes!! bangers
Also. can we talk about furina's little sea creatures being called salon solitaire, aka lonely hearts salon??? LONELY HEARTS? :''') screaming.
skirk? my reaction: watching everyone else's reactions with a bowl of popcorn next to me (but seriously. wow thats a lot of hate)
i understand that everyone is disappointed, she's too honkai, jingliu copy, design doesn't translate the abyss warrior vibes, blah blah blah but goddamn i dont think people have gone so insane (negative) over a character
FREMINET EVENT ALERT!! my small guy........ the penguins look so cute 🥺🥺 his fairytale mechanical penguin wah
suspicious lack of arlecchino in the trailer unless I missed something?? but if they really just Left Her Out of the trailer like that... something's up
Was watching the chinese livestream so idk if these apply to the english. However omg furina's little bit at the front so cute JSDDJSKF her inner monologue is so funny
also Neuvillette's CN voice actor?? Hilarious actually?? his banter and jokes were so fun i had a seizure when he said 'byebye' but in like. the most Voice ever

For sy attendant au - what are SQQ attitude and feelings towards SY, if you don't mind me asking?
Because what I read so far hadn't painted him in good light. Like sure - he wants to survive and SY is an key asset in that, but the way he goes around it is... questionable.
so i answered this ask about it but i just realized that i dont think i tagged it with anything so. MY BAD thats my bad
the long and short of it is that sqq is definitely not a good person in this au lol. granted theres less of the overt child abuse because sy is able to stop some of that but sy still is very much a servant to him. one of the better things about this au is that sqq really just sees sy as a means to an end.. there is some attachment to him but sqq really does not really see sy as someone with his own agenda outside of like. living comfortably. its kind of good in a way that like sqq will grant sy a general amount of mobility around the sect because of sy's vague position and he doesnt reeaally care what shen yuan is doing if its not actively doing work for the peak or sqq.
sqq really sees sy as more of like. a political pawn? in a way. like he keeps sy close for appearances around the sect and he does in some way feel like hes doing charity work because by extension of working for him sy is granted a fair amount of power and status. but he doesnt care what shen yuan does in his free time or for fun. sqq is not the worst person of all in this au but he is definitely someone who isnt afraid of using others to help himself. that and like. its definitely a pat on the back for him of being able to say "well you were sent here to take my place and instead of killing you as was my right i HELPED you and i even gave you your own place on this peak and look at you now. youre mingling with some of the best and the brightest that the cultivation world has to offer" like nevermind that he isnt interested in helping sy with his own cultivation lawl
ok that wasnt short at all sorry but sqq is using sy but he also feels like hes helping him a bit. its a pretty unequal give and take so they definitely have an unhealthy relationship. that being said i think sy goes out of his way to misunderstand sqq a lot because he allows his hate of sqq to shape how he sees his actions.. so he doesnt put a lot of effort into actually examining how sqq differs from the book. also now that ive had a lot of time to think on this au i dont really think that sy's end goal in all of this would be to LEAVE as much as it would be he would want an actual firm position and leverage over sqq so he didnt feel so unstable. that and he does feel indebted to sqq. he could probably handle being around the guy if sqq didnt have so much say over his life

carlos is frantically unlocking the front door. he is clamoring and clanking about, and cecil is very worried. what’s happening? they did get their mandatory slices at big rico’s this week, didn’t they? had carlos tried to communicate with the hidden figures? was he going to be re-educated??
finally, carlos busts through the unlocked door. he is visibly disheveled and panting like he ran a marathon (which is silly, he wasn’t wearing his running lab coat). cecil rushes up to him, his arms open and his hands shaky.
“carlos? love, are you—“
cecil is cut off by carlos grabbing his forearms; tightly at first, then slowly softening to match his comical puppy-dog eyes. his brow is raised and furrowed, but his jaw remains ever-squared.
“cecil,”
he says, his regular monotone heavy, like that of a dying man,
“would you still love me if i was a worm?”

like every now and then I wonder. am I being too hard on Rauru. am I being too me about that scene by thinking that he's leaning on Ganondorf a little harder than necessary, that he's being just a little more condescending than he has to be, that he maybe likes a petty power play a little more than the rest of how the game seems to want us to think of him would imply.
but let's be real, he and Ganondorf are in full agreement that Rauru's fatal flaw is arrogance. and also. someone very kind directly translated* the Japanese cutscenes into English the other day (x) and I
G: “For our late attendance for your repeated invitations, we the Gerudo tribe offer our heartfelt apologies. We pray that you will allow us to join you as your lower-class vassal.” R: “Admirable Ganondorf, I recognise your submission to Hyrule Kingdom. A man is said to be born only once in every 100 years to the Gerudo tribe. To be able to welcome a warrior called ‘king by birth’ into my Hyrule… is indeed a reassuring development.”
(breathes calmly) lower-class vassal. your submission to Hyrule Kingdom. my Hyrule. the nasty little implication (am I imagining this) that Ganondorf--proud warrior, king--is now subsumed into Hyrule and is become Rauru's possession. I am still breathing calmly. I am deeply normal about this.
Like I have seen people argue that no no, the other peoples/tribes weren't asked to submit to Hyrule, they were simply allies of the new kingdom, but Ganondorf sure seems to think that submission is what Rauru's after or at least is the bait he will willingly take; and even knowing full well that that's an evil guy Rauru is more than willing to play along.
and yet the game still wants us to look at Rauru as a Good King figure. as a noble ruler. And the thing is I am honestly convinced that he does actually want or at the very least he is convinced he wants to unite the peoples of Hyrule simply so that everyone can be united and be friends! I do actually think this is his genuine desire! I also think he made up a kingdom so he could be king of it and this is inherently an action to be deeply suspicious of. He is arrogant. Again, the game is quite firm on that point. There is a sort of presumption that power should rightfully lie with him.
and I posit that when he's faced with Ganondorf, known evil bad guy, whatever part of Rauru's superego tells him that he should tamp down the part of him that enjoys being the one with power simply... steps back a little. because it's all right, here. Ganondorf is evil, so it's allowed.
* Disclaimer: I don’t think this is a superior translation, to be clear, and I do feel that both this and the official English are effectively giving the same vibe; I appreciate & share it primarily as another take on the same concept. It’s easier, I think, to solidify conclusions when you’ve got things to compare/contrast with each other.
