Finding Her - Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Link makes notes, takes photos and keeps time on his quest across Hyrule, in the hopes of finding Zelda and staying sane until he does. [ Previous | Next | First | AO3 ]
Log date: 12:30. 5th month, 22nd day 104 AC Location: New Serenne Stable Weather: Sunny
Lady Impa was glad to see me. But maybe not as much as I was surprised to see her. Was heading north, towards Tabantha, when these silvery lines began snaking their way under my feet — next thing I knew the whole field was covered in them.
That’s where Lady Impa was, with Cado, and a hot air balloon. She calls them geoglyphs, says they were created by the people of ancient times. (Why can we only see them now? Magic? It’s usually magic.) She said the glyphs were made to house tears, and that if there was one here it might help us find Zelda. So I spent an hour running every line and checking every stalk of silver grass until I found it.
Zelda and I have probably seen every inch of this kingdom in our travels but somehow we’d never noticed it — a shallow pool, no bigger than a foot across, hidden on the hills of north Hyrule. It showed me her. The shortest of visions. Gotta admit, don’t like what I saw. Because if it was real, if it means what I think it means…
Impa spoke about the Forgotten Temple holding more clues and then sailed away in her balloon. No choice but to follow. If the weather holds, I can make that ride in less than a day.
A photograph taken from Impa’s hot air balloon of the geoglyph of Hyrule Ridge, depicting a large figure with long ears and an outstretched hand.

Purah Pointer #34: The regions of Hebra and Tabantha in Hyrule are cold! Pack warm clothes or make sure you have a steady supply of warming foods such as Spicy Peppers. Be especially careful of monsters in these regions that utilise an icy breath.

Log date: 19:45. 5th month 23rd day 104AC Location: Snowfield Stable Weather: Light snowfall
Been to the Forgotten Temple with Impa and now on the way to Rito Village, stopping at this stable on the way. Looks like there are plenty more geoglyphs to see and hopefully more visions of Zelda too. If I can make it that far.
Head’s swimming. Thank Hylia for stable-made stew. They use the good stuff here; endura carrots, gourmet meat, maybe even truffles. The owner says they have to, or they won’t get many visitors ‘at the edge of the world’ he calls it.
Might have been a bit reckless. Feeling reckless, lately. Like my joints are all loose; like anything could happen. Less than two weeks without her and I’m starting to wonder how I lived this long.
Harlow at the stable said there was a three-headed dragon nearby scaring off travellers and that she fears it'll attack any day now. Alright. A dragon, easy. Have met dragons before, they’re not so bad, as long as you approach carefully.
Not this one.
It saw me and a second later the worst chill you can imagine filled the air. It burrowed deep under the Hylian tunic I bought and chewed through the heat of the Spicy Pepper Skewers I’d been eating. Relentless. Barely remember the rest. Fired a few clumsy arrows its way, dodged its ice breath, fell down and was preparing to die face down in the snow like an idiot when I heard a roar. Didn’t get a good look at what happened, only that when I got to my feet the Gleeok was fleeing, and the Light Dragon was circling maybe 300ft above and rising. Not sure what I did to receive its blessing but, any help you can get, right?
Gonna go ask for a third serving of stew.
A photograph at maximum zoom, taken from behind some ancient ruins, of a huge ice Gleeok flying in the distance. The air around it is thick with snow such that the creature is barely visible.
Caption: Will be back for a rematch.

Log date: 10:00. 5th month, 25th day 104AC Location: Lucky Clover Gazette Correspondent Temporary Quarters   Weather: Snowfall continuing
Another tear, another vision. Worst fears confirmed. Zelda didn’t just fall, she disappeared – and landed somewhere so far back in the past it makes my stomach turn. Just have to trust she found her way back, somehow.
Currently resting up at the Lucky Clover Gazette. Zelda used to get their paper delivered every week, guess this is their new headquarters here in Hebra. Somehow got roped into being a reporter for them. They’re chasing leads about Zelda’s whereabouts so why not. Will try anything once.
Traysi has a whole operation here. Research notes, archives, a pictobox, a printing machine, issues packed and ready for distribution. Didn’t see any other reporters except Penn though, and me I guess.
(This job pays, right?)
According to Traysi there there are reports of someone who looks just like Zelda. Sightings all over the place. Is she okay? In danger? Trapped somewhere? If she made her way home, why hasn’t she told us?
Penn said to meet him at the Woodland Stables – he heard she’d been seen there – and it’s taking every ounce of willpower not to go right away. But Hebra is calling, and Zelda has friends there among the Rito. She’d want me to help them. Have to start somewhere or I’ll never start anywhere. Will follow any lead I have.
A photograph of Penn, the Rito journalist, in front of a large corkboard with copious notes, drawings and maps pinned to it, centered around large letters that read ‘ZELDA?’. He is pointing to one of the papers, explaining something with an animated expression even behind his flying mask.
Caption: He lost me five out of fifteen minutes in.

A photograph of Link running through a gently rising field, the ground painted with the faint glow of a large geoglyph.
Dearest Zelda,
I hope the day comes when you can view this entry on the Purah Pad. I have locked it with your passcode.
If you are reading this, it hopefully means you are returned to us. That or it is Link reading this, having cracked the passcode (or made Robbie unlock it for him, though I doubt that).
I have met with Link only ten minutes ago, near the old Royal Ancient Tech Lab that you were so fond of. He has entrusted the Purah Pad to my care as he searches for the secret of the geoglyph that has appeared here. We think it may help him find you; I pray to Hylia we do, and soon.
I cannot doubt Link will prevail however, for I have never seen such single-mindedness, such breathless abandon as he chases even the slightest hint of your presence. If I told him your shadow had passed over the ground at our feet, he would all but drop to his knees to praise it.
I will continue my travels to document these geoglyphs, as I know you would give anything to be the one doing so. The least I can do is record my findings to someday share with you. Your Link has been doing much the same.
If the Goddess is kind, you will soon have a chance to read the story of his travels — and then hopefully write the final chapter.
Always in your service,
Impa of Kakariko Village

Note
How do you get Malanya
In Age of Calamity I assume? You have to do certain sidequests to unlock the Great Fairies. Malanya appears as certain attacks when you play as the Great Fairies. I believe it’s like, a shove attack that lunges you forward while sending out horses beside you. Similar to Impa’s max charged ZR move.

"Can I offer you the best product in the world?" The merchant asks and Warrior wants to roll his eyes. He just wanted some Endura Carrots, but this jerk is going to try and wring more money out of him. "I've got a killer sale on Mighty Bananas."
He takes a deep breath. "No thanks, I don't-"
Clang.
He stumbles backwards as two different weapons end up right in front of his face. The merchant has a sharp dagger in his hand and his face is screwed up in anger as Wild blocks the weapon with his own. Warrior can hardly process it and he can only stare with wide eyes and Wild pushes through and shoves the murderous merchant backwards.
"Yiga!" Wild hisses and Warrior has no idea what that means, but the merchant's eyes flash in recognition. "Traitor to the crown!"
That: Warrior gets.
"Traitor you say?" Warrior asks and reaches back for his own weapon, his blood beginning to boil in his own fury. "There's nothing I loathe more than a traitor."
The merchant glares at Warrior and Wild before he suddenly grins and jumps backwards nimbly. There's a flash of red and a tornado of talismans hide his body for just a second before flying away and revealing a completely different thing. It's dressed in a skin tight red suit, a strange mask sits over the face with a warped version of the Sheikah symbol painted on.
The Yiga, Warrior supposes, laughs and launches themselves into the air and pulls out a deadly looking bow. Wild charges past Warrior and straight up hits the Yiga in the stomach with a spear. Warrior too surges forward, knowing instantly that the best way to fight these guys would be to not give them a chance to attack.
The battle doesn't last long, in fact, Warrior probably didn't even have to jump in. Wild makes quick work of knocking and Yiga down out of the air. The Yiga rolls and Warrior jumps forward, about to bring his sword down when Wild suddenly screams at him to stop.
Warrior does and the Yiga groans on the dirt as Wild jumps on it and pins it down. He pulls out a length or rope and begins to bind the hands.
Confused, Warrior slowly lowers his sword and let's Wild work. Soon enough, the Yiga is bound and is being shoved to their feet. "We'll hand him over to the nearest soldier to take to the castle," Wild says, avoiding Warriors eyes.
"Why?" Warrior bursts out and Wild widens his eyes in surprise. "It's just a monster? Why not kill it?"
"What?" Wild asks, his face contorts in shock and confusion as the Yiga groans. "He's not a monster, he's Sheikah."
Now Warrior feels even more confused. Aren't Sheikah people? Hylians? He looks at the Yiga and it slowly dawn on him that… they have just fought an actual person. He reaches forward and rips off the mask covering the Yiga's face and he's met with a human expression. Human eyes. Human hair. A man, he realizes. They were fighting a man.
Wild doesn't just fight monsters in his world, he fights his own kind too.
He feels like he's going to be sick. Sure, Warrior knows that there are plenty of evil people out there, but those people were always witches or corrupted by Ganon's influence. This man? He looks like he belongs on a farm with a lovely partner at home and maybe a few little tykes.
"Don't look at me like that," the Yiga snarls suddenly. "You won this time, but next time you will be defeated. All of you. He turns and glares at Wild. "You may have killed Master Kohga, but we're still strong as ever!"
Warrior feels his heart go still as Wild pales. Killed Master Kohga? Wild has killed someone? An actual person? Before Warrior could ask more into it, Wild's expression shuts down and he shoves the Yiga forward. "Be quiet, traitor."
"Some hero you are, Calamity Ganon will rise again and you will die! Death to the hero!"
Wild gags the Yiga after that.
Eventually, Wild manages to find some patrolling soldiers to hand the Yiga over to and Warrior and Wild start their trek back to the others way later than what they had originally planned.
Wild is quiet besides Warrior and Warrior can't help but wonder about what has been said. Thankfully, he doesn't have to wonder long, because Wild speaks up just a few minutes from camp.
"I used to think they were monsters too," he says quietly and Warrior remains respectfully quiet. "I… killed some of them and didn't think anything about it. I… fought their leader. He died because I used his own powers against him. But… one day I met an ex member, and I realized that the Yiga are all like us, just confused. You can't imagine the… horror I felt when I found out they are like us. I thought they were demons or creatures corrupted by Malice, but they're just like us." His eyes turn to the ground with a deep sadness pooling into his gaze. "Just like us…"
"I understand," Warrior says.
Wild smiles sadly and Warrior cannot be more thankful for his own world that's filled with mostly black and white. Good and Evil. Men and Monsters. Not this in between gray.
"You didn't know," he continues.
Wild gives him a small smile, but Warrior can tell he doesn't look comforted at all. He probably will live with the guilt for the rest of his life.
"I should have," Wild says simply, quietly. Warrior can't find the words to respond.
-o-o-o-o-
Beginning is direct quotes from @linkeduniverse. I used to think the Yiga were monsters and would always get frustrated when they would smoke away instead of letting me kill them. I thought that would be some good angst 💛

Tips I learned while playing BoTW
Update! Somewhat. Very minuscule update.
These are stuff I learned when I was playing. I'm on mobile so it won't look so organized, but this is stuff I learned and I felt they might be really useful. It'll be a list of things I feel people might not know but since the game has been out for a while, most people already know what to do.
Koroks
They suck but you only need 441 seeds to max your stash
If you have the Korok Mask, it helps a lot!
With the mask, if you move a little ways and it stops singing no matter your direction, it's above you or below you.
If you see three trees with two of the trees having one apple, it's a possible Korok. You have to match the third tree so it's the same as the other two.
Update: The same is with the Cacti in the Desert.
Using Stasis helps locate the rock you need for the rock puzzles.
If you see the pinwheel and don't hear or see the target balloons, it's usually the clay pots.
Enemies
Lizalfos are terrible and I hate them. They never sleep.
If you can freeze the Enemies, the weaker they are, the longer they'll stay frozen. Golden Enemies don't freeze too long.
Using Chuchu jellies are useful when paired with Shock weapons. Pop the blue chuchu jelly around the enemies and hit them with your shock weapons to create the thunder dome to get multiple enemies.
If a Lizalfos ends up in the water, shock arrows are good if you are not good at aiming like me.
Spin attacks are good when you have a heavy/two-handed weapon because it'll keep hitting the enemies without them moving so much. USUALLY. Sometimes they'll still hit you.
If the enemies hit you and take more life than usual, the weapon might actually have more attack power. Or your defense is lower than usual.
Lynels are vicious but more manageable when you're up close and personal. If they pull out their bow and shoot straight on the air, it'll likely get you 95% of the time. (If there is an update that fixes that, disregard this.)
Flying Guardians suck. Careful when you reflect their laser beam because it might not hit your shield, but just above you.
If a Hinox's leg guard doesn't burn, it's metal and if you use a shock arrow, it'll shock them long enough to hit their eye or wail on them.
Using Remote Bombs to roll along the sand will force Molduga to eat them and you can detonate the bomb to stun it. When it begins to move, you can move just out of the spin attack and stay there. Usually it'll burrow under the sand but breach out to surface as it circles you so you can shoot it with a bomb arrow and repeat the process.
Weapons
As I mentioned above, if an enemy hits you harder than usual, it's probably a stronger weapon.
Black Hinox's carry the Royal Weapons and are useful if you need one.
If you like hunting Lynels, you can score some pretty good bows.
Enemy camps can be pretty good to find stronger swords or bows.
Molduga can also be useful too.
If you have more than, I think 60 or 70 arrows of any kind, the stores won't sell them until you have around 20 or 30. Maybe. I'm not quite sure the number but they won't sell you arrows if you have a lot.
If you want to farm for regular arrows, going along Zora Domain's path and killing all the Lizalfos will drop over a 100 for sure. You can stop at the great bridge after the small camp with the black Lizalfos.
The Royal Guards weapons are beautiful and awesome looking, but they suck at durability, which actually annoys me because I love the black color. However! They do have some pretty high attack power compared to the Royal Weapons. So if you still wanna make the most use out if them, sneak attacks are your best friend. The shield can be useful in a pinch and the bow has a great fire rate.
Materials and Meals
Satori Mountain is pretty good for getting all kinds of good plants like Endura Carrots or Hearty Durians/Radishes.
The Faron region is also a pretty good place to get all three beetles and definitely Hearty Durians.
Riola Spring spawns Farosh from the water. Easy place to farm its dragon parts.
Naydra is a jerk. But if you want to farm parts from it, I learned that a good spot is around Lanayru Heights, facing towards where Zora's Domain is. When it drops the part you hit, instead of flying down into the water to pick it up, you can get it from the grass. I usually go towards the West Gate, the highest I can go, and face away from the bridge towards the plains where deer are.
Drinaal is a bit easier than Naydra but the same thing can happen depending where you are. A good spot is along the Deplian Badlands where the three Lynels are. North of the Thyphlo Ruins (The Dark Forest) and Death Mountain. It flies low enough to almost hit you if you're not careful. Another spot, though not as good as the Badlands, is at the very end of Tanagar Canyon. If Lynels make you worried, this spot is well enough that you don't have to drop so far to pick up its piece. It's at the end towards the Gerudo Highlands.
From Hateno Tower towards Firly Plateau, there's a pond next to a giant tree where you can get at the very least 4 Hearty Bass. At max, 6.
Darners > Butterflies.
You can mix food items of the same stat as the insects to make elixirs! Just don't forget the Monster part!
So far, Lynel Guts have a lot of potency but I'm still experimenting.
Update: Modulga Guts and Hinox Guts seem pretty good as well.
Dragon Horns guarantee 30 minutes of your stat. So make sure you use highly potent ingredients.
Monster Extract can do the same, but it's a gamble. You might end up with 1 minute or 30 minutes. Use it during a Blood Moon.
Blood Moons makes your cooking critical, so use it to your advantage when cooking up stat meals. Extra hearts or Stamina doesn't seem affected by it.
Sometimes cooking a meal like Rice Balls will bump up your stat time more than just using five of the same ingredient. At least I noticed that.
Silent Princesses is highly potent steal ingredient.
Fleet-Lotus seeds are the best Haste ingredient.
Endura Carrots > Endura Shrooms
If you set fire to a Spicy Pepper, it can cause an updraft. Use it for a quick boost!
Making an elixir gives you more time than a cooked meal from what I noticed. Example: 3 Mighty Porgies + 1 Bladed Rhino Beetle + 1 Lynel Gut gives you more time than 5 Mighty Porgies. (Health/Stamina boosts don't count)
Miscellaneous
Cooking during a Blood Moon works at 11:30 pm game time. It's when the critical cooking is in effect.
Climbing Gear is so useful with the Climbing Bonus. You use less stamina when you jump.
Update: Majora’s Mask acts as a disguise for Lizalfos, Moblins, Bokoblins, and Stal Children. It works with Lynel’s, but they see through it pretty quick.
The Soldier Gear/Ancient Gear/Hero's Gear maxes out at 28 Defense per piece. Very useful to have. Champion's Tunic maxes at 32 defense.
During a Blood Moon, if you want more time to cook or you need the shrine that requires it, hop into a shrine before the animation starts, usually at 11:55 pm before the animation cuts in, and wait it out. The game will not register a Blood Moon actually happened and will do it again the next night. So far it's worked all the time for me. It will not bring back the enemies but it's a good way to make some meals or get more ingredients for them.
If you do the Master Sword Trials, your boons will carry over. Extra Hearts, Stamina, and attack/defense/etc. will carry over.
It also works with the Stranded on Eventide shrine quest.
The Shrouded Shrine quest, or that pitch black forest north of Great Hyrule Forest, is that if you don't want to drop a weapon you like for the torch, using a Remote Bomb helps. I noticed if I use the Magnesis Rune on a metal object, it illuminates better around you but your camera is pretty fixed.
Ancient/Guardian Items don't conduct electricity. Feel free to use them during a Thunderstorm.
That's all I got for now, but if you found those useful, I'm glad it helped. Though I didn't really look hard to see if anyone posted some of the stuff I mentioned, I think some of it can be new that some people didn't really know about. I did mention stuff that I have seen but it was just in case. Thanks for checking it out if you're reading this! (• u •)b
Spoiler Warning just in case
The Shrouded Shrine quest, the Pitch Black forest, you can go straight ahead, you'll see a giant bird statue and a small bird statue you can light up, and climb over the wall. You'll land where the shrine pops up. When you see the blinking arrow, that's the Hinox sleeping. Get the orb, by stealing it or killing the Hinox, and plop the orb into the pedestal.
If you go to Zora's Domain through the back, Akkala Region, you will see a new Cut Scene for Prince Sidon if you don't speak to him at the bridge.
If you go along the path when you meet Prince Sidon at the bridge but fly down to the domain before meeting him at the entrance and meet the King, Sidon will not be there. You can go to the entrance where he is waiting for you and he'll give you a different reaction when you sneak up on him.

Moral Fibers
(Back at it again with another Linksona fic!)
Summary: While getting her companion Wolf Link checked for an illness, Swift comes across some fellow Hylians who are less than pleasant.
Swift paced back and forth near the stable. Recently, she and her buddy Wolf Link, now dubbed Twilight by her, had been traveling in the Faron region when the canine had suddenly fallen ill. Wasting no time, she took him to the nearest stable where thankfully one of the handlers there offered to take a look. Now she was just waiting for the results.
“Miss Swift?” The handler peaked out from the tent. “You may come in now.”
She walked into the tent a little fast, anxious to hear his findings. “So? What’s wrong with him?”
“It seems your pooch here has ingested something he shouldn’t have. What was the last thing you fed him?”
The Hylian thought for a moment and upon coming to her conclusion, she chuckled nervously. “I, um...I may have fed him some spicy meat. It was all we had at the time.”
The handler sighed heavily as he shook his head. “Miss, you would have been better off feeding him raw meat. You hunt, don’t you?”
“She does, but she was too lazy to go and shoot a damn fox for me!” Twilight snarled before groaning in pain.
The stable hand pet Twilight’s fur before looking to Swift. “I have a remedy for him but I require your assistance. Do you have two hydromelons? I’ll need to mix them with some ingredients of my own to ease his pain and get his stomach back to its natural self.”
The young hero perked up as she searched her bag. Sure enough, she pulled out two Hydromelons. “Here they are!” She then snickered. “Hey, Twilight.~ What do you think of these melons?” Swift joked holding them to her chest.
“Do that again and I swear I’m going to bite your head clean off then chuck your body off a cliff!” growled the wolf.
Swift quickly gave the Hydromelons to the handler. “Alright, alright! Geez, it was only a joke! I’ll be outside with Dawson.” She walked out of the tent to find her trusty horse Dawson nibbling on the feed the stable provided. She smiled and patted his neck, his black coat warm to the touch. “Hey there, big guy. Least you don’t chew my head off on a weekly basis.” The horse turned and nuzzled his rider, making her laugh. “Awww, you big sweetie. You’re definitely getting some Endura carrots for that.” The Hylian then went to the front of the stable where she caught sight of a familiar figure: the traveling merchant Beedle. With a big smile, she ran to him. “Yo, Beedle!”
The merchant looked up and gave a startled yelp when she tackled him in a hug, making him fall back. “Gah! Easy, friend! I’ve got delicate wares here!”
“Heh heh, sorry about that.” She helped him up to his feet. “I just haven’t seen you in such a long time. The last time I saw you was when you were freezing your ass off at the Tabantha stable.” Swift then put her hands on her hips and scolded him, “Seriously who wears shorts and a tank top in snowy weather?”
Beedle nervously scratched his head. “Eh heh heh, yeah, I should really invest in some snow clothes. Oh hey, listen. I need to do some business with the stable hands here before my next trip. Could you watch my stuff while I talk to them?”
The female Hylian gave a thumbs up and a grin. “Sure thing! And don’t worry, I’ll pay for anything I take from your pack.”
“Awesome!” He set the large pack down and stretched his back before heading over to the stable owner.
Swift stretched herself while keeping her eyes squarely on Beedle’s backpack. She wondered he could secretly turn it into a small tent that he could crawl into. Her thoughts were then interrupted when she noticed two Hylian men coming up and eyeing up the wares. “Hi there! I’m sorry but the owner of that pack is away at the moment, but he should be back in a while.”
The taller Hylian named Noren saw her and smirked. “Well, hello there, missy. What’s a cute little thing like you doing all the way out here?”
“I’m traveling around Hyrule with my trusty horse horse and my buddy Twilight. We’re just taking a breather here before heading to Rito Village to check out that giant bird in the sky.”
The shorter of the two Hylian men named Gori came closer to her. “Aren’t you a brave one? Sounds like an awful lot of work for one tiny gal. Why don’t you come with us and we’ll show you a good time?”
Normally Swift would be up for hanging out with a couple of guys, but there was something off about these two that made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up a bit. “Look, boys. I’d love to but I’m gonna have to pass.”
Noren got much closer to her and put his arm around her, already a breach in her personal bubble. “Awww scared your boyfriend is gonna find out?” His hand traveled down to her side which made her shiver in discomfort. “He doesn’t have to know.”
The female Hylian had enough of this as she stepped on his foot hard. “Back off, you creep!”
Gori grabbed her arm rather forcefully. “The hell is your problem, lady? We’re just trying to make your first time a good one.”
With no hesitation, Swift growled back, “You boys are a hundred years too late to that party. I already lost my virginity to someone with ten times more charm in her than you scumbags have in your pinkies!” She kneed Gori in his crotch which made him let go of her arm to clutch his groin with a yelp.
Noren snarled and pulled out a knife. “I’ll forgive the unpleasantries you gave us if you give us that pack near you. If not, this is gonna get ugly for you, missy and I really don’t wanna have to put this knife into your pretty little face.”
As if unimpressed, Swifty grabbed a nearby sword and pointed to him. “You really don’t wanna do that. I wasn’t made Zelda’s knight for no reason.”
Noren bit back a gulp and tried to slash at her, but she moved out of the way and brought her elbow down on his back hard. Unfortunately Gori grabbed her from behind and held her in a chokehold. She screamed and bit at his arm which made him yell but he still kept his grip on her. Just when she thought was done for, a rock hit Noren on the head. They all turned to see the owner of the stable and some of his stablehands. “Let her go before we grab the horses and run you scoundrels down!”
Swift took advantage of the distraction and stomped hard on Gori’s foot which finally made him let go. She picked up the sword she dropped and with a very upset voice, roared, “Get out of here now before I slice you both to ribbons and use your heads for target practice!”
Gori and Noren knew they couldn’t afford to fight that many men and a crazed young lady at once, so they picked up their belongings and ran off.
Beedle heard the commotion and hurried to Swift’s side. “Swift! You alright? I heard screaming.”
She panted before giving her answer, “I’m okay. Some jerks wanted to use me and steal your stuff. No biggie though, they’re gone now.”
“Ahh, Windy, you didn’t have to do that for me. Your life is way more important than my wares,” said Beedle, afraid he might have put his friend in unnecessary danger.
Swift Wind rubbed the spot she grabbed at and just smirked. “Hey you told me to keep an eye on your stuff and I agreed. No turning back on that.”
The merchant was surprised but gave a small smile. “Well, can you promise me not to risk your life for my things again? Hyrule still needs its hero.”
Swifty grinned and nodded. “Okay then. Just for you, pal.”
The handler from earlier came to her and informed, “Good news, Miss Wind. Your wolf is feeling much better.”
“Really? Wow, you sure work fast, sir. What do I owe you?”
The handler did a quick calculation and stated, “I’d say you owe me about 100 rupees. And please no more spicy food for your companion.”
Swift handed over a small bag containing the full amount. “Believe me, I won’t. Not unless I want fire to come out of his butt.” She noticed the handler’s unamused look and quickly put her hands up. “Kidding! I’m kidding! I’m uh, gonna go pay him a visit now.” She darted toward the tent and found Twilight sleeping soundly on a mat. She thought about telling him what had happened to her with the two scoundrels, but shrugged and pet the wolf’s head, figuring she could tell him later.

Sidlink Drabble 6
UM. This is a lot longer than I expected it to be. BUT yeah. This is my play on if Sidon were Hylian and Link a Zora. I’ve been meaning to write it, BUT after seeing Gummysquid’s amazing designs for them that priority got bumped up QUITE A BIT.
You can also read it on Ao3 here. I was thinking about making it its own post there, but nah I’m lazy.
Reiner was getting impatient, Sidon noticed. The white stallion flicked his head back and forth and whinnied as Sidon gently tugged on his reins. It was strange: Reiner was typically a much more mellowed horse, which was the main reason he decided to bring him out of all the Royal Family’s horses. The stallion never disobeyed Sidon’s commands in all his time of riding with the prince, so it was concerning that Reiner kept trying to veer off the lonely path leading from Hyrule Market to Zora’s Domain.
With a frown, Sidon sighed and tugged Reiner to the right. Perhaps if he gave Reiner a short break, the horse would feel better.
“Why, Reiner. This is my first, important mission to get a working relation with the Zora people!” he chastised the horse as he gently yanked the reins and steered the stallion to a halt. He climbed down, gave a reassuring pat to his flank and reached inside the satchel attached to Reiner’s saddle. He pulled out one of the horse’s favorite treats--an endura carrot--and held it out for the steed. “Surely you understand that I need this to work perfectly, since Mipha entrusted me to go alone, correct?”
The horse snorted and quickly chomped into the thick carrot. Sidon smiled, reached for the horse’s soft yellow mane and brushed his fingers through the nice and straight hair. The Hylian prince carried his glance past his steed’s body and eyed the lush, colorful grasses of Hyrule field. It was a cool summer morning; the sun was only starting to rise and a damp mist rolled along in the air. He had already gotten a few hours knocked out of the way of his journey, but Hyrule castle still lingered in the distance and looked much closer than it really was.
“Feeling better, you silly boy?” Sidon asked after Reiner had eaten the endura carrot and gave several affectionate strokes to the horse’s head, just behind the ears in his sweet spot. He mounted back into the stallion’s saddle and sat up straight. He carefully edged the back his heels against Reiner’s sides and took off at an even trot.
Another hour--perhaps two, Sidon had lost track due to how distracting the beautiful scenery was--had passed when he finally reached the Thims Bridge. Reiner jerked his head back once and whinnied again, but after a soothing path against his neck, the horse followed along the Thims Road and stepped on the wooden planks. His hooves made slow and rhythmic patterns as he and Sidon crossed the bridge.
Sidon glanced down over the bridge and eyed the dark blue depths of Zora River. Unlike the conjoining Hylia River, Zora River had a much faster stream and flowed with wild rapids. It was one of the reasons the Royal Family decreed that no Hylian was allowed to swim in the waters without assistance--that and the fact that they didn’t want to offend the people of Zora’s Domain and be labeled as potential trespassers. He never told anyone else, but when Sidon was very young--merely five years old--he had snuck to the river.  He fell in by accident and was certain he was going to drown. A golden...flash came into view and something, or someone, had saved Sidon and he woke up on dirt.
To this day, Sidon wasn’t sure why or how he’d been saved.
When he heard a strange howl, Sidon gasped and glanced around. Down below, on the banks of the Zora River, he spotted a large group of accursed bokoblins and several moblins surrounding something. All of the monsters were armed and each took a turn swinging at whatever had their interest. Through the mass, Sidon could see that the stranger was fighting back and managed to knock away some of their numbers.
“I must help them, Reiner!” Sidon cried and urged the horse into a gallop. He guided Reiner off the path after they crossed the bridge and darted down to the group. Holding the reins in one hand with a firm grip, Sidon unsheathed his sword from over his shoulder and armed himself. Using the speed to his advantage, he swiped at one of the unsuspecting bokoblins and easily dispatched the monster with one hit.
He leaped down from Reiner’s saddle and allowed his stallion to run off from battle. Reiner never strayed to far and always obediently waited for Sidon’s call to return; years of trust and bonding had paid off well with Reiner.
Some of the bokoblins looked away from their target and hissed at Sidon. Sidon scowled in return and readied his broadsword. The blade was made from precious, sturdy metals that glimmered in the sunlight. The hilt of his sword was encrusted with a black layer of iron with three individual gems--a ruby, emerald, and sapphire--decorating it.
“You fiends have no sense of honor,” Sidon snapped and charged at the closest bokoblin. “Always attacking the citizens of Hyrule and making it unsafe to travel!”
He dodged a wooden club swinging at him and ran his blade through the offending monster’s chest, leaving it to collapse and crumble in dying pain. When Sidon glanced back to the surrounded figure, he was surprised to see four of the bokoblins and one of the moblins had already been dispatched of.
Sidon turned his attention back to the two bokoblins charging at him and he pulled into a defensive stance, with his thick red braid flying crossing from shoulder to the other. With the pair came into distance of his sword, Sidon flew forward and slashed at them both. Without a thought, he turned on his heels and looked around, ready for more of the monsters. But...the group all laid dead on the ground now.
“Ah. That was a thrill!” Sidon murmured with a sigh of relief and flung his trusted sword down, throwing most of the blood and gunk covering his blade to the dirt. “Are you alright, friend?” he asked as he turned to the other figure and finally got a decent look at them.
He paused when he saw that they were not Hylian, but instead a Zora. Their scales were a bright golden yellow, with sharp blue eyes. He was covered in silver and blue armor, a silver pair of bracers clasped to his forearms. Despite having a shorter stature, the Zora was well defined and very muscular. In one hand, he held a long sword stamped with a sigil of the fabled triforce on its hilt. Its blade...was glowing?
“I must say, you made quick work of those fiends!” Sidon complimented as he stepped forward. He didn’t miss how the Zora eyed quietly and watched him like a hawk. “Perhaps you can be of assistance now that these monsters have been taken care of. You see, my name is Prince Sidon and I am supposed to meet with an envoy of your people at Zelo Pond!” he explained and pointed to the small body of water to the south.
The Zora blinked before nodding and the intense expression he wore dissolved into surprise. He sheathed his sword in its scabbard on his back and stepped closer, reaching into a pouch on his waist. He pulled out a metal plate, engraved with a picture of the Zora Royalty’s famous insignia: three beautiful sapphires held together with golden, metal center.
“Ah, what luck!” Sidon said happily and extended a hand down to the Zora after he sheathed his sword as well. “You must be Link. I’ve heard stories of your skill and they seem to be very true!” he exclaimed and nodded to the dead monsters.
The yellow Zora hesitated and his blue eyes turned wide. He almost seemed nervous. Perhaps it didn’t help that Sidon towered over him, but Sidon was use to the reaction in his twenty years of life. He was exceptionally tall for being a Hylian prince, but he accepted long ago that he couldn’t really change that and instead focused on being perceived in a positive light. When Link finally reached his webbed hand to Sidon’s, Sidon grinned and firmly shook it.
Link’s palm felt so strange against his tanned skin. It had a faint, slick texture, but the scales felt very firm and rough like sandpaper.
“Why don’t we ride together?” Sidon suggested with another friendly smile. Before Link could reply, he whistled loudly and waited. “I’m sure you must be tired after all that fighting.”
As every other time, Reiner came barreling towards them both and slowed to trot when he saw Sidon again. Link flinched back and looked worried by the horse’s appearance, but Sidon gave a gentle pat to the Zora’s shoulder.
“Don’t worry! My horse is very calm and very patient,” he explained as he walked by Link and approached Reiner. He retrieved another carrot to reward the steed for waiting. “I came prepared and so he’s wearing a double saddle.”
Link hesitated again but nodded and slowly followed Sidon. He hovered beside Sidon and his mouth pulled into a grimace.
“I’ll sit in back,” Sidon said and stood by the horse’s flank. Reiner flicked his ears back and forth and strained his head and to look back at his owner and the strange Zora. He whinnied impatiently and scraped his hoof along the soft dirt. “Yes, yes, Reiner. We’ll get going. Do...you need some help?” he asked when he saw how Link was frowning and eyeing the saddle.
Sidon was surprised when Link’s white face flushed in red and he nodded frantically.
“Ah.” The Hylian prince nodded. “Watch me.” Sidon gripped the horn of his saddle, slipped his right foot into the stirrup and pulled him up onto Reiner’s back.
Link peered up at Sidon and then cautiously reached for the purple horn just as Sidon had. He made a harsh grunt as he awkwardly stuck his webbed foot into the stirrup and pulled his chest up against Reiner’s saddle. The white stallion dug up more dirt with his left hoof and made a confused whinny.
“Fantastic job. First time on a horse?” Sidon suggested as Link finally managed to correct himself without assistance and sat up straight in front of him. He watched as the Zora nodded slowly. Sidon could tell alone from Link’s body language, how tense and still he was, that he wasn’t familiar with horses. “Don’t worry. If Reiner does act up, I’ll be the one thrown off!” he added with a lighthearted laugh and smiled.
“Anyway, lead the way, Link!” Sidon said and reached past Link to drag the ends of the reins closer to him...just in case.
Link grunted, nodded again, and pointed to the south.
Sidon couldn’t help but to beam in pride as Reiner resumed trotting on the dirt path. So far, everything was working out well. He would make sure his sister didn’t regret letting him come.
*cries* This was supposed to be just a short drabble.

Well, I'm pretty much out of excuses. I think I'm going to finally beat Breath of the Wild tonight. I spent the last few nights grinding for star fragments. I'd put it off for a long time because I thought it would be mind numbing and awful. It turned out to be incredibly relaxing, serene, and fulfilling. One of the best things I've done in the entire game. I'm not being sarcastic at all. Here's the thing. I've gotten all 120 shrines. I freed all four divine beasts. I got all 900 Korok Seeds. I upgraded every armor set I could buy or find. I just hadn't upgraded all of the amiibo armor sets or all of the Gerudo jewelery. Upgrading those costs star fragments. There's no fast or easy way to get star fragments. They come in a few chests, and are prizes in a few quests. A couple of dogs will even give you one, if you feed them enough meat first. Fun fact. Dogs also eat voltfruit. I don't know why. Another fun fact. Horses will like you more if you feed them apples, swift carrots, or endura carrots. Of the three, apples are the easiest to find. Swift carrots can be easily bought in Kakariko Village, and endura carrots can be found around Great Fairy Fountains and the top of Mount Satori. Related fun fact. You can feed a horse by walking up to it with an apple held in Link's hands and the horse will eat from Link's hands. You don't have to drop the item. I found that last one out myself, last night. I found the Lord of the Mountain on Mount Satori a few nights ago at long last. I rode him to the stable. I didn't like the look of him, but I enjoyed having a horse with super fast stamina regeneration for a while. I already have a horse with five stars in speed. I named him, if you remember, Freddie, after Freddie Mercury. I do not know if Freddie Mercury would have liked that or not. My honest guess is that he would not have cared at all. The Lord of the Mountain disappeared after I got off of his back and tried to take his picture. I was disappointed, but I understand. It's just a silly cheat thing, being able to ride a horse with five stars in all stats and super fast stamina regeneration. Epona has four stars and normal regeneration. My horse Soybean has four in strength and speed, and five in stamina. Freddie has two strength and three stamina, and five speed. There is no perfect five star horse that you can actually register. I'm alright with that. I usually ride Freddie, because when I want a horse, I want the fastest fucking horse. There are times when Freddie is too fast or I fear for his safety. Then I can use Soybean, or go even slower with a three-star speed horse, the Royal Horse that I caught fairly early on in the game. I used the Royal Horse for the obstacle course to earn the extravagant bridle and saddle. I'm pretty sure I used Freddie for the archery course to earn the Knight's bridle and saddle. I have Freddie and Soybean wear the Knight's bridle and saddle. And so on. Grinding for star fragments means doing one of two things. One is fighting and killing lots and lots of Silver Lynels. They have a small chance of dropping star fragments. I think I've killed about thirty or forty or so of them, maybe. I've gotten three star fragments from it. It is not reliable. They are the only monster that drops them. I know because I found a list of all enemy drops that a man named MrCheeze compiled by mining game data. It's thanks to him and his object map that I know that Freddie and Soybean are the best horses, too. And that I can mix four fleetpod whatever the fuck they're called with a dragon horn to get an elixir that maxes out Link's speed for thirty fucking minutes. The other way to get a star fragment is to see one fall from the sky. They fall at night, as red streaks that slowly drop to the ground from far away, and they throw up a dust cloud and then leave behind a very tall pillar of light. If you make it to the light before 4 AM, it turns into a star fragment and becomes beholden to the game's physics. It may fall off of a cliff if it is near one. That is bad. That makes it harder to grab. The way I found online to do this is to save the game and then close out of it completely. Then wit until night and go to shrine on top of the Dueling Peaks mountains. Stare East until a star drops. By closing the game and starting it again, it guarantees a fragment will fall. They don't fall every night otherwise. I did that for a while. But the East of Dueling Peaks is not an easy landscape to navigate. I lost a lot of star fragments to the cliffs and lakes over there. So I tried other waiting places. My favorite is the Great Plateau tower. Stare north from the tower, with the central Hyrule tower on the left and the stable on the right. Fragments fall very close to one of those two places. So close that I could always, without fail, either glide to the fragment from the central tower or hop on Freddie at the stable and get the fragment in under a minute. There's no water for the fragments to fall into or cliffs for them to fall down. Just open fields and a few forests. There are guardians. They often tried to shoot me. I either ignored them, if I could, or I killed them, if I couldn't. Guardians aren't a threat anymore. I needed to get about ninety star fragments or so to max out everything. I think. Let's do the math. I believe there are four pieces of jewelry that require two fragments each. There are five sets of amiibo armor that require twelve each (four for each piece, three pieces). The Sheikah Mask takes a whopping ten. That's seventy-eight. Okay. I guess I needed seventy-eight. I still forget how many I started with. I could average a few in an hour at Dueling Peaks. I averaged nearly ten an hour at the Great Plateau. Last night I got fourteen in a little over an hour and a half. Staring at the landscape for several minutes at a time, waiting for a fragment to fall, is very relaxing. Sometimes it rains. Sometimes it doesn't. The sky gets brighter or darker depending on the size of the moon and the clarity of the sky. I could stare at those landscapes for hours. And I guess I did, though not all at once. The brief interruptions of teleporting somewhere else, chasing down the star fragment, waiting until noon somewhere, saving, closing the game, starting it up, waiting until night, and teleporting back to the tower gave it enough meaning that I wasn't just falling asleep looking at a big field with a castle in the middle that had black clouds and four lasers going into it. And I got enough fragments to upgrade every amiibo armor and every jewelery item. I like the amber earrings the most, which is ironic since they don't require star fragments. Them and the... Opal earrings? They help you swim. The amber earrings don't help you do anything. They just give 28 armor, the same as other high-armor items. Those are the Soldier's Helmet, the Ancient Helmet, and the Cap of the Wild. The diamond circlet also gives 28 armor, and Guardian Resistance besides. So the amber earrings are just pretty and not as good as other equipment. I still like them a lot. I like the way that they look, which is like little tiny daggers of amber. Amber is the prettiest color in the world. I realized this about twelve or so years ago, when a character in a video game I was playing was named "Amber," but in Japanese, and had amber-colored eyes. I liked that character a lot. I liked her eyes. I liked her, and her eyes, so much that I enrolled in Japanese courses, travelled to Japan, and took a photo of a woman dressed as that character at Comiket, the world's largest amateur comics convention. It was great. I felt great. Several other people lined up to take that same woman's photo after I stopped her and asked if I could take her photo. I hope she felt great, too. I don't think she could possibly remember me. I was just some fat foreign guy with an American accent. My photo of her was the end result of four years of hard, pointless work that I'd decided to take on because of a video game. I say she can't possibly remember me because she had other fans right after me who also wanted a photo of her. But the few times that I did cosplay myself, I made some pretty vivid memories of my own minute-long fans. Like a teenage girl who asked to feel my arm. I obliged her and even flexed so it wouldn't just be a squishy tube of meat, but instead a hard tube of meat.. Her friend said she was drunk. I was thirty. I decided not to wear that costume anymore because of that girl. I haven't. So it's possible that the girl in the costume of the character with amber-colored eyes remembers the fawning fat foreigner who asked for a photo and inspired half a dozen others to ask for the same. I don't know if I want her to remember me or not. I suppose I must. And so on. I like the amber earrings because they look good on Link. That's all. I went through my strategy guide and did every side quest listed. Even the dumb ones, like "go to a big circle of rocks on the ocean and talk to the bird man and then find a treasure chest and talk to the bird man again." I read that Kass, the bird man, makes his way back to the Rito town if you complete each shrine quest of his. This is true. I'd completed every shrine by the time I learned that. So, since I'd also completed the shrine quest involving five little Rito girls, they were in town as well. They were singing in front of Kass as he played his giant accordion. I was envious of Kass when I saw that, but I don't begrudge him anything. Good for him. The girls are his daughters. It was a scene of a man returned home after a long time away, spending time with his daughters who loved him. The daughter in the middle commented on how I looked cooler than the last time she had seen me. She asked if I'd completed every shrine. "Congratulations!" She said. "Good boy!" Then, "I hope you liked the congratulations!" It was more meaningful to me than the Armor of the Wild. I talked to Kass that night, because he asked me to. He told me some things. Some pretty important things. That wasn't in the strategy guide. I found the Water Reservoir last night. It's near Hyrule Castle. It's just a pond. But it isn't labeled on the map until you go to it. Then it's labeled. I wonder how many other places I still haven't labeled. I'll storm the castle tonight after work. I'll kill Ganon and I'll see the credits and that will be that. I'll stop playing until the DLC. I have other games to play, but I'll miss this one. I don't want the journey to end. They say that a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. What nobody ever told me was that it ends after a thousand miles.
