hello! your thangorodrim post made me cry! (literally). The comic itself is just absolutely gorgeous, the expressions waver from peaceful to a visceral pain and anguish that I feel physically. and the brand on Maedhros's cheek sends a chill into my bones. I have lots of ideas about his brands and ahh just *over excited noises and shuffling of papers* anyways you are just unbelievably talented-@outofangband

Like if you are saying the book is biased to the point that we can’t get an accurate understanding of the events from it what do you think actually happened? Or do you think like it could be literally anything and there’s just no way to know

Oof, I would have to do a real deep dive to asess all the things that must have happened vs is probably just a story with creative liberties.

Here’s an example of a partial and incomplete rundown of things I consider as undoubtedly happening because they are historical facts.

- The Ainur entered Ea

- The Valar created the Two Lamps and settled in Almaren

- Melkor overthrew the Lamps

- The Valar moved to Aman and grew the Two Trees

- There was the Battle of Powers and Melkor was captured

- The Elves were invited to Valinor

- Thingol met Melian

- Miriel died birthing Feanor and Finwe remarried

- Luthien was born

- Melkor was released and befriended the Noldor

- Feanor created the Silmarils

- There was a Feanor v Fingolfin squabble and Feanor was exiled

- Melkor killed the trees, stole the Silmarils, and returned to Angband

- The sun and moon were made

- Feanor did the Oath, there was the Flight of the Noldor

- The rest of the Noldor crossed the Helcaraxe

- Feanor died, Maedhros was captured

- Maedhros was rescued and lost a hand

- House of Finarfin entered Doriath

- Sons of Feanor relocate to East Beleriand

- Fingolfin became high king

- Nargothrond and Gondolin were completed

- Siege of Angband, Dagor Brogollach

- Melkor killed Fingolfin in single combat

- Mairon captured Minas Tirith

- Beren and Luthien met

- Mairon surrendered Tol-in-gaurhoth

- Beren and Luthien acquired a Silmaril

And, if course, there is leeway for debate.

Ok this is totally random but what if the Ainur see color differently than humans so Morgoth’s curse on Húrin fails because Húrin “sees through his eyes” and his eyes work totally differently

Oh god, this is hilarious and I fully accept this head canon! I imagine everything looks totally psychedelic, like he starts hearing colours and seeing in different directions of time and all that weird stuff. The real reason Hurin was acting crazy when he was released was he was totally tripping out on Valar-vision

1) Daily walks are not long enough, and I do not want to be attached to one of your maiar (or yourself) when taken on them. I am an independent elf, I can walk alone.

2) Not enough tools or space. Get Aulë to send me more things.

3) The food and drink options are average at best. I have not had a sparkling wine mixed with orange juice since I was alive, and the duck liver paté does not have enough seasoning. Please, talk to your chef.

4) Your maiar are BORING. You are boring. Let me see my parents, or at least talk to someone interesting.

5) There is some sort of restriction on fire lighting?? It makes no sense and I don't understand the purpose of it.

6) Please, keep the peasantry Teleri away from my quarters. Barely a day goes by where I don't have profanities yelled in my direction or my walls defaced with offensive images. It's not nice.

How To Export/Backup your Tumblr

@main-to-outofangband-andothers​ has an excellent question! 

Here’s a step-by-step rundown of how to export/backup your tumblr. You’ll have to do this for each individual blog you have. Well, at least each blog you want a backup of.

I’m pretty sure this is only possible on desktop, so that’s the version I’m going to use.

Under the cut for ease of scrolling

Step 1: Go to your Settings

At the top-right of your dashboard (tumblr’s main page once you’re logged in), you should see this:

(I have xkit installed so there’s xkit’s icon as well, you might not and therefore might not see that icon. Don’t worry, you don’t need X-kit for this!)

Click on the icon second from the right, that looks like a person. It will open this menu:

Click on settings, third from the top with the gear icon.

Step 2: Export your blog(s)

You should now be on a page that looks something like this:

On the bottom right of your screen is a list of your blogs, with your primary/main blog at the top and marked with a star. Click on the blog you wish to export to go to its settings page. It’ll look something like this:

Scroll down until you see this button:

Hit that button and you should see this:

Eventually (it can take over a day if you have a Lot of stuff on your blog, or a couple minutes/hours if you’ve got less), tumblr will finish backing up all posts on your blog and have them available to download as a zip file. When it’s ready, you’ll receive an email, which will link you to the exported blog’s settings page (or you can just refresh the tab if it’s still open), and you’ll see this:

Click on the “download backup” button, and you’ll get a zip file containing all your blog’s contents! Use your unzipping tool of choice and you’ll now have access to the backup of your blog! For writers, the most relevant thing is the backup of all your posts. 

Everything you’ve ever posted or reblogged on that blog will be stored in a folder titled “posts”. If you’re like me, that means you’ll have a lot of posts to sort through if you want to find your actual content. The posts are saved individually by their permanent url code (usually a series of numbers), so you’ll have to do some digging to find the copies of your work (again, if you’re like me lol).

They’re saved as HTML files and open with a bit of wonky formatting, but otherwise they contain all the text and images (and etc.) from the original posts!

Remember you need to make a backup for each individual blog you want a copy of, just repeat these steps for them as needed. I also recommend renaming the zip files as soon as you can because they’re complete gibberish by default. I named mine after the blog they’re a backup of.

aaaah thanks! i have so many thoughts about their relationship, this answer almost turned into a long off-topic ramble that really deserves its own post? by the third kinslaying mags was in the kind of state i can’t really buy a 100% fluffy interpretation of their relationship, but at the same time i think he tried as hard as he could to be kind. complicated guy to love, especially when the last time you saw him you were an angry teenager and he was sending you away
