Arranged marriage AU where Jon and Martin are Nobles With Neighboring Estates who meet as teenagers and fall in love. When they come of age they find out their respective families have engaged them off to strangers, so - unwilling to face a life apart - they flee their homes in the middle of the night to be together.
Cue Peter Lukas (distantly related head of Martin’s family) and Jonah Magnus (ditto for Jon) frantically beginning their own months-long searches for the runaway grooms, desperate to find them and drag them back to their weddings.
Eventually the two are located on a small rural farm, living the cottagecore life. Peter and Jonah are summoned; their carriages pull up outside the small house at the same time. They disembark, frowning at each other.
"What are you doing here?"
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm looking for my family's runaway groom, Jonathan Sims."
"I'm looking for my family's runaway, Martin Blackwood."
They both look at the house.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me."
-
There's a knock at the front door. Jon opens it and finds himself face-to-face with Jonah.
"Hello, Jon."
Jon pales and takes a step back. "You can't make me go back."
"I think-"
Before he can speak, Martin enters from another room in the house. "Jon, who's-" and then he freezes, and pales as well.
"Hello, Martin," Peter says.
"I won't go back," Martin replies, his voice shaking. He steps up next to Jon and puts a hand on his shoulder. Jon reaches up to hold it with his own, and Peter and Jonah's eyes focus in on the rings on their fingers.
"Please," Jonah says, through gritted teeth. "For the love of god. Tell me the two of you didn't run away to marry each other."
Jon's chin juts out in defiance. "And if we did? You can't separate us."
"Oh for goodness-!" Peter says. "We've been looking for you for months! Countless man hours we’ve wasted to bring you back for your wedding, only to find out you're already married?"
"Maybe you should have thought of that before you went and sold our futures away!" Martin says. "We're not pawns in your chess game, we're not just going to go along with whatever schemes you come up with to marry us off to-"
"-each other?" Jonah interrupts.
Jon and Martin freeze.
"...What?"
Peter waves a hand at Jon. "Martin, this is the Magnus boy you were arranged to marry!"
Jonah nods at Martin. "This is the Lukas child to whom you were engaged, Jon."
"What?"
"Did you seriously," and there is a vein throbbing in his temple, "know each other for years, run away from your homes together, get married, and it never, not once occurred to you to tell each other what families you came from?"
-
Jmart get their asses dragged back home for a Real and Proper Legal Wedding (the first definitely wasn't - they exchanged rings and declared their undying love for each other in a moonlit field with no witnesses). As soon as the ceremony's over they're banished back to their farm because no one wants to put up with any more of their bullshit.
And there they live happily (if somewhat embarrassed) ever after.

Happy November guys I've been brainrotting about Gerry Keay and have decided to write a fanfiction about him heh its a bit silly, a bit sarcastic, and kinda horrifying, just like our favourite arsonist <3 Find the link below if you're interested
I Suffer No Fools - ThnksFrThGy - The Magnus Archives (Podcast) [Archive of Our Own]
Here's a small excerpt of the fic so y'all can get a taste of my style if you like:
I could feel it. Something was happening. My bones sang with it.
About halfway up the stairs, I could sense it. A surge of power roiled over my skin. I rolled my eyes, attempting to brace myself for the new flavour of horror my mother would be releasing now.
Somehow, I'd underestimated the woman.
When I entered the apartment over the bookstore my mother owned - Picken's Books - I'd expected to see some Eldritch entity of some kind. Maybe a Distortion come to visit, or some messed up mannequin. Maybe she wasn't quite bored of taunting Perry with that Leitner - the one that had tried to eat me when I'd tried to burn it, probably - or maybe she was talking to the End through the bones again. She had gotten pretty good at reading them since I'd found the book. Maybe she was actually getting somewhere with the whole "taking control of the entities one by one" thing. Who knew? Not me. She could very well have been doing anything, but what I came home to that day was a whole new level of fucked up.
Blood had spilled like a rich red oil over the floor. There was so much. Surely we weren't doing human sacrifice now. I mean, I knew she'd killed people before. I'd killed people before. That didn't mean I had to like it. I hated it when people died. Surely we shouldn't be feeding people to the monsters. It was all we could do to keep free of them ourselves.
"Gerard!" My mother called. Her voice was strangled with pain, and I must admit a shameful part of my heart swelled with something that wasn't panic when I heard it. Wouldn't it have been lovely to be free of her? Surely I'd simply let whatever it was eat her. Surely I could just walk out, come back in five when the deed was done.

Outsider POV on Somewhere Else Jonathan Sims must be just. so much.
Like imagine. You're part of a support group, and a new guy decides to join. You ask him his name and he says, "Jonathan," and then after a long pause, "Blackwood. Jonathan Blackwood. But call me Jon."
He doesn't like tape recorders. You only know this because the person who hosts the support group is into retro things, and tries to keep a couple around. She turned one on once when someone asked about it, and you noticed Jon clutching his nails into his hands so tight he's nearly breaking the skin. You lean over and whisper, "Do you want me to ask her to stop?" He says, "It's fine," and you nod, but you still try and change the subject whenever people bring up tape recorders from that point on.
He full-body flinches one day when someone says Hello, Jon. Nearly slams into a wall and everything. He tries to play it off, but after that people say Hi Jon, or Nice to see you, or things like that. Anything but Hello.
He says he used to work at a 'non-profit for studying the supernatural'. Someone asks where it was and he says London. You tell your wife about it, and two days later she emails you an article. Magnus Institute Burns Down In 1999. It was in Manchester. You tell her not to bring it up again.
The guy is snarky and blunt and downright rude at times, but when a woman comes in and tells them about being trapped in a empty warehouse for a week, he comforts her in a way none of the rest of them know how. "I believe you," he says, repeats it like a mantra, like a prayer. "I believe you." He says 'I'm sorry' less like he's sorry this happened to her, and more like he's taking the blame onto himself.
He talks about Martin, sometimes. His reason, he calls him. Normally you'd point out that while it's of course good to love your partner, you should have other reasons to live, but you stay quiet. This guy needs all the happiness he can get.
You leave a little late that day, and when you do you hear him on the phone talking to someone. "She'd been touched by the Lonely, Martin!" he says. "Which is bad, of course, but--" he seems to choke up, "Martin, I didn't feel any compulsion for a Statement. A-at all. I think it's really gone."
You just walk by.
You don't know what's going on with Jon, but it really isn't any of your business. You're an anxious queer lesbian and he's a traumatized ace guy, and you aren't going to make his life any harder than you have to.
Just. Jonathan Sims in a support group.

No because I have such a visceral reaction to fanfictions that have the characters do something that they would never do. “He would not fucking say that,” actually causes a genuine physical ailment in my body. The world is caving in on me. I feel sick

“Statement of Martin Blackwood, regarding…” Jon looks at him. Looks at him. The look of a boss whose employee was late three times last week, the look of a man who was just busy doing something really important and now he’s here, doing this instead. “...why he stole a grieving family’s oven gloves.”

Just a Little Bit Pet-tea by arthureameslove
No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist
Martin makes Jon tea for the first time about a week into his transfer. It’s horrible. Gag-reflex inducing. Somehow sporting all the wrong flavors.
For some reason, he does not have the heart to break this to Martin.
Little does Jon know that Martin actually makes wonderful tea. Just not for him.

No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist, Martin Blackwood & Sasha James & Tim Stoker, Martin Blackwood & Sasha James & Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist & Tim Stoker
It shouldn’t have been surprising to learn that Martin hated him. He had been, he knew, a truly terrible boss - he’d treated Martin horribly, caused him to lose his home, nearly gotten him killed. Really, it had been ridiculous to ever think that Martin wouldn’t hate him.
Still, Jon had been trying, in his own way, to make it up to him. There wasn’t exactly a card at the drugstore that said, “I’m sorry I berated you for six months and caused you to nearly be eaten by a swarm of worms of potentially supernatural origin,” but he’d been trying. He brought Martin breakfast every morning, made sure the breakroom cabinets were stocked with his favorite blends of tea, and had tried to work some genuine praise into his feedback of Martin’s work. None of it was the direct apology that his conscience told him he really ought to give, but Martin had appreciated it. Or seemed to, anyway.
Jon wasn’t certain what motivated the decision he made next - whether it was guilt or spite or something else. He could, he knew, be quite petty when the situation called for it. Either way, he made up his mind then and there to prove Martin wrong. He was going to be the best fake boyfriend he could be.

a consideration of tropes by gruhukens
No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist
“Do you know much about cataloguing?” Jon asks, a little out of breath from the stairs.
Martin, mid-trolley, rolls his eyes. The gesture he makes at the shelves around him is only emphasised by the book he’s holding.
“What exactly do you think I do here, other than sit around and wait for angry patrons to yell at me?”
“Think of what you’re going to yell back?” Jon says, and Martin’s mouth twitches into a smile.
-
Asking the very important question: what if Jon and Martin had a gentle archives/library romance, and kept running into tropes? What if there was mutual pining involved? Only one bed? Fake dating? Hurt/comfort? Or perhaps, a soft and happy ending?

Clutching Daffodils by Gemi
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan Sims
Martin has always liked the idea of love at first sight.
It’s such a romantic idea, the whole thing of it. Seeing someone and instantly feeling that strange, twisting feeling deep inside that every single media likes to obsess over. Of knowing you are in love within the day, petals falling from your mouth and warmth filling your chest as love burrows deep, vines twisting through your lungs.
He always liked the idea of it.
And then Jonathan Sims starts working at the Magnus Institute.

“Have you got anywhere to stay?” Jon asks him, briskly. “Friends, acquaintances, maybe, who you could stay with…?”
Martin flushes, deeply. “I, I mean— n-no, not really,” he stammers, and then goes even redder. “Or, just, y’know not that I’d want to, to. Put in the middle of this. Put in danger of, of worms.”
“Ah,” Jon says, “No, of course, that makes sense.” Why drag anyone else into this mess? Seven people died during Prentiss’s initial hospitalization; the collateral damage of roping someone from outside the Institute into her orbit doesn’t bare thinking about. “In that case…” Jon feels like there’s some alternative solution, one he’s just not thinking of at the moment, but it evades him, and Martin needs somewhere safe to stay. “My couch is quite comfortable. You’re welcome to come and stay with me until you figure something else out.”

So. Martin isn't expecting anything to happen. But then, one day, something...does happen. It happens when Martin is passing Jon in the hall, and stops to ask how he’s doing, because Jon always looks a little bit like hell these days, and it makes Martin feel like he has to do something, and useless small talk is pretty much all he can do, so that’s what he does. And instead of grunting or shrugging or mumbling something dismissive, Jon replies, with perfect, involuntary clarity, "Every part of me aches, and I would just about kill to have someone rub my shoulders right now."
There's a positively deafening silence as they both come to grips with this unprecedented turn of events. Then they both start talking at once.

Martin stands next to him on the train. His hand rests just beneath Jon’s where it grips one of the metal poles, and Martin takes care not to brush against him despite how crowded the car is. Jon considered telling Martin, when they first got on the tube, that it was okay—that his touch would be… well, it wouldn’t be bad. Not like Nikola's. But he’d stayed silent, allowing Martin to cultivate a careful space between them. They’ve been silent for the past twenty minutes as they’ve passed by station after station on their way to Martin’s flat in Brixton.
Jon adds 24 hours onto his mental countdown of the time he has left until he’s allowed to break down and tells himself that he can manage. It’s… important to have goals, he thinks. He splits this one into steps.

“Oh,” says Jon, numbly. “You don’t. Remember? Um. It’s complicated. What… what do you remember?”
Martin seems to shrink in on himself a little. It hurts to watch, especially after how Jon’s seen him so painstakingly grow back into his openness over the past few weeks.
“I don’t know,” he says. “I don’t – I don’t.”

So like
What very specific ao3 tag do you go absolutely balls to the walls crazy for?
Like i don't mean fluff or hurt/comfort or even stuff like sharing a bed. I mean something that might be in less than 1% of the fics you're interested in. Something that might elicit the response "wait, that's a tag? I mean i guess but-" from your friends, or at least create general confusion and/ or concern.
I'll go first
Mine's hypothermia
Absolutely insane for that shit. I check ao3 for new hypothermia fics in my favourite fandoms like every 2 or 3 months. I... Ok It's cuddling to save a life, what's not to like? It's a way of having your characters in danger of death but have them be basically fine the next day.
(I mean yea I'm aware that irl moderate to severe hypothermia can have lasting effects but-)
And I mean unless it's real bad and they lose some fingers it's pretty chill on the physical consequences (ha, chill!) so that's a plus
Also did i mention CUDDLING TO SAVE LIVES?? MAN THATS INSANE
The contrast between the frozen one being like "actually I've stopped shivering so ig I'm doing better. I'm even warm" and the rescuer knowing those are you're-at-death's-doorstep symptoms??? DISGUSTING I LOVE IT
GAH!! Just-
Yea man, I'm so normal about this

Since I've been combing through an ungodly amount of fan fiction lately, I was thinking about how to depict physical intimacy that goes beyond cuddling on the couch but not into the explicit territory, or rather: how to deliver the feeling of being in that kind of moment without coming across too voyeuristic for the viewer. Not sure if these scribbles are yet where I want them to be, but I overworked them so much by now, it is time to leave them be. Also it is just such a joy to draw these designs for those two – big and round vs small and angular but both of them just extremely soft. :)

[image description: three colored in sketches of Jon and Martin. The first shows them kissing, both their faces mostly obscured by the other; Jon has one hand in Martin's hair and Martin has one at the back of Jon's neck, half under the collar of his shirt. The second image is Martin's profile pressed against Jon's neck. Both are smiling happily and lost in the sensation. The third is both of them sitting next to each other on a bed, coily but directly looking at each other. Martin is bare-chested and wears only his boxers, while Jon still is in a dark red shirt. His left hand rests tenderly on Martin's upper thigh.]

Ten Octobers, by Martin K.B. Sims
today i ate a pomegranate red seeds bursting under my fingers like blood vessels crimson staining my hands my shirt the floor you took a seed from my palm cracked it between your teeth said nothing this time of year is- quiet. filled with ruminations, remembrances, regret. you sit by the window your knees to your chest looking inward my footfalls are silent as i pace the floor this time of year, every year, is- quiet. yesterday ten years ago- i picked up a knife held it in my shaking- hands and- put it down. tomorrow we will go to the store and buy a pumpkin. we will bring it home. you will carve it, your steady hands tracing familiar patterns from long ago and i will watch as a smile grows this time of year- every year- in the familiar lines of your familiar face
-----
My eighth fic for @jonmartinweek: Ten Years Later // Martin’s Poetry. Also posted on Ao3 here.

It's always funny when an author on ao3 that I subscribed to for a specific fandom starts posting fics for another fandom that I'm also in. Especially niche ones. Great minds think alike I guess.
