And so it happened that as they looked at it, the clouds parted and the sun shone out.

The Magic Lake, or: How to Become a Werewolf, Apparently
Wolfgang here! We don't have any asks at the moment, so I thought that I'd stop and tell you guys how we became werewolves in the first place.
It has nothing to do with bites, apparently. Instead, all you need to do is take a little dip...in the MAGIC LAKE of Arcadia Woods!
Follow me through the trees, here, to a seemingly normal clearing. Looks pretty empty, right? Just flat ground, no grass or anything. This is how it looks every day, and almost every night, too.
But now, let's come back on a night when the moon is full. And suddenly...there's a lake here! It fills almost the entire clearing, and the water is so clear, you can see six feet down to the bottom. There are no fish or plants or anything. Where did it come from? And is there something else...STRANGE about this lake? The way it seems to glow in the moonlight, and the way that it calls you, beckoning you to take a swim?
...Okay, that might have just been me and Dad―the others say that they all went into the lake by accident. But I swear, it was really inviting. And the water felt kind of weird when you got in, sort of tingly and electric, and it made you feel stronger and bigger and somehow more than what you were.
Because when you get out...you won't be the same anymore. The next thing you know...you'll TRANSFORM! Not just that night, but over and over, for the rest of your life!
Ha! Pretty weird, huh? And you know what? If you go looking for the lake the next morning...it'll be gone. It's disappeared, and will only come back on the next full moon. And you'll be back in the woods, too, once again taking the shape that the magic lake bestowed on you.

Magic Lake. Ink on Rice Paper after the Chinese tradition. 2012.
Silver guache for the lake.
Based on a Chinese myth. I really like some parts of this painting. Others... less so. I'll share it for the parts I like.

so we saw one of swanatello's good days . . . how do the bad days go? :eyes: don't mind me i feed on angst~
Swanatello is Guardian of The Lake and is extremely territorial and protective. The brothers have to take turns and visit him one at a time-- if they approach as a group, Swanatello will quickly grow defensive and view them as a threat. They've learned by now that if he's not able to recognize them, the best thing to do is back off and try again tomorrow.
... Mostly learned, anyway.
(The next time Leo's able to visit properly, Donnie will worriedly ask him what happened to his wrist.)
