The Power Rangers franchise has been a part of my childhood since I got exposed to it through Samurai, even though its source material, Super Sentai, is better in my opinion.

Though this spin-off of the Total Drama franchise is very controversial, Its still one of my favorite shows in that series for its off-the-walls humor

Happy 10th anniversary, Uncle Grandpa! (Premiere date: September 1st, 2013)

Despite its initial rocky reception, many have warmed up to the show for its comedy, absurdness, and its titular character being credited as the "survivor" of the HBO Max (now called Max) purge.

Happy posthumous 50th birthday, Jason David Frank! (Birthdate: September 4th, 1973)

Though JDF is no longer with us, his legacy and likeliness will forever be a part of us. May he rest in peace.

Happy 25th anniversary, Oggy and The Cockroaches! (Premiere date: September 6, 1998)

One of my favorite French cartoons when I was younger, having a formula akin to Tom and Jerry but with the title character winning most of the time. Truly a classic from Xilam.

And finally, I present you 20th anniversary of Hoops & Yoyo!

(yes I know the actual release date for the cards is September 11th, but I really don't want to be insensitive during that day)

Initially starting as Hallmark greeting cards before becoming a web cartoon and eventually a franchise, Hoops & Yoyo has been a personal favorite to some due to its simplistic artstyle, the titular characters plus Piddles being adorable creatures with lovable personalities, and its vibrant setting. I have to admit, Bob Holt and Mike Adair really deserve the appreciation they got when creating this line of cards.

'I'm in Love with the Villainess' English Audiobook Announced

On Friday, Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it is publishing an audiobook version of Inori's isekai Yuri romance I'm in Love with the Villainess (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou). The first volume (6 hours and 54 minutes )will be released on November 16, 2023, and the second (10 hours and 45 minutes) on December 7.

Seven Seas is releasing the audiobook under its recently announced audiobook imprint, Siren. It is narrated by voice actress Courtney Shaw (Maesetsu! Opening Act). It will be sold digitally on major platforms, including Audible, audiobook.com, BookWalker, Chrip, Kobo, Overdrive, and Nook.

Seven Seas Entertainment licenses all five volumes of the light novels in English. They follow office worker Oohashi Rei, who wakes up as Rae Taylor, the protagonist of her favorite otome game, Revolution. However, Rae is not interested in any of the game world's eligible bachelors, only having eyes for Claire Francois - the antagonist! And Rae is determined to save Claire from her destined fate.

Inori began publishing the series as a webnovel on Shousetsuka ni Naro in early 2018. GL Bunko licensed the light novels digitally in Japan and published the first volume in 2019. Hanagata draws the illustrations for the light novel. In 2021, Ichijinsha began publishing the light novels in paperback.

I'm in Love with the Villainess gained popularity in several overseas markets, including Korea and America. Critics and audiences praise it for its focus on LGBTQ+ themes, characters, world-building, and story.

A manga adaptation of I'm in Love with the Villainess began serialization in Comic Yuri Hime in June 2020. Ichijinsha publishes six collected volumes of the manga in Japanese. Inori also launched a spin-off, She's so Cheeky for a Commoner (Heimin no Kuse ni Namaikina!), which retells the the series from Claire's point of view. Gl Bunko licensed the spin-off in Japan.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensees both the I'm in Love with the Villainess manga adaptations and the She's so Cheeky for a Commoner spin-off in English. It will release volume five of the manga on October 24 (October 12 digitally) and volume 2 of the spin-off light novel on April 9, 2024.

I'm in Love with the Villainess is also inspiring a television anime adaptation. Hideaki Oba directs the anime at Platinum Vision. It premieres on October 2 and will stream internationally on Crunchyroll.

D4DJ Voice Actor's and Headcanon Voice Actors.

This will be a little different than my usual VA headcanon posts because this will actually feature both canon AND headcanon VA's from this series.

The only instance where D4DJ has been dubbed in English is the first season of the anime, which primarily featured Happy Around, Peaky P-Key and Photon Maiden, and while the other units made cameos and had voiced scenes, they didn't really get the spotlight. I wanted to include all the characters in the post though, because I very quickly fell in love with this series and the storylines, and characters sing to me, pun not intended.

So this is kind of a roundup of the voice actors of the characters in English, as well as who I think would voice the characters who DON'T appear in English. The rules are the same as ever.

The most important thing to remember is that the unnoficial VA's are NOT CANON. They are HEADCANONS ONLY. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.

First Impression: TEPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing ’til You Cry

(And yes, it does actually have all those exclamation points.)

Ambitious for a life of manzai stardom, budding comedian Yayoi Sakamoto took the entrance exam for Kagetsu High School in Namba, a city known for its steady stream of new talent. There, by sheer coincidence, she ran into her childhood friend Yomogi Takahashi, with whom she’d performed manzai years ago, and Yuzu Hosono, another aspiring comedian. Together, the trio calls themselves Young Wai-Wai, and they’ve got their sights set on winning the Teppen Grand Prix, a national competition of manzai trios from all across Japan.

After making the qualifiers, the three move into Takako-so, a dormitory housing four other competing trios. And sure, it’s a challenge preparing for their debut on the national stage. But nothing could have prepared them for the horrible incident that would befall them days before their first trial run…

the accidental beheading of their manager’s favorite first-place bodybuilding trophy.

Another year, and another one of these manzai anime. Last time around it was Maesetsu!, and as much as I wanted to enjoy that one, I just couldn’t get into the comedy. Maybe it was the comedic timing, or the inside jokes, or the references that flew past my head because I don’t know much of anything about the manzai scene. In any case, I went into Teppen expecting to be disappointed in the same way.

This time, though, I was pleasantly surprised! Teppen‘s first episode shows that it’s possible to do a show about comedy and have it actually be funny. The comedic timing here is quick and snappy. The reactions are amusing too, but they don’t carry the humor. Instead, a series of absurd scenarios, hilariously developed, keeps viewers on their toes. And it all flows effortlessly, just like any manzai routine is supposed to. I’ll admit it: I forgot I was supposed to be writing this first impression halfway through the episode; I was just grinning at the screen like a fool until the ending song (which, as a side note, may end up as one of my favorites this season).

I will say, however, that your mileage may vary with this show. Manzai isn’t for everyone. The absurdist, slapstick humor doesn’t always land, and since it’s dependent on cultural references, those of us outside Japan shouldn’t expect to understand it all the time. Still, it’s worth a shot—even if only for the hilarious screenshots along the way.
