I was listening to washing machine heart by mitski and the lyrics "why not me" and "I know who you pretend I am" made me think of how Quaritch has this feeling spider doesn't see him as his father and uses Jake as a replacement for that empty spot breaking Quaritchs heart and wanting to redeem that spot himself would it be alright if you could write something with this concept? If not that's alright! Love your writing ❤️
"Don't worry boss, we'll catch the son of a bitch."
Quaritch glanced warily at Wainfleet. He'd been fretting for the past half an hour, staring intensely into the campfire and keeping himself to himself while the rest of the recom squad were enjoying downtime after yet another day's fruitless searching.
Lyle was the one person who could read him like a book. They'd known each other for too long - it was one of the reasons he'd made him second in command.
Quaritch sighed deeply. He was very aware of Spider sat not too far away, probably listening.
"I know," he replied.
Sure enough, a snort materialised from the boy across the fire.
Lyle raised an eyebrow at Quaritch, who nodded, a silent affirmation for Lyle to leave them to it.
Quaritch grit his teeth. "Something to say, Spider?"
Spider looked at him above the crackling flames, staring intently with unspoken emotion. It took him a moment to respond. "What did he do that was so terrible?"
Quaritch didn't want to go there tonight, but he'd been the one to open the door. "That's a long and complicated story kid."
Spider looked off to the side, so that only half his face was illuminated by the firelight's glow. "Doesn't seem that complicated from over here."
"Ever considered you don't know the full story? Ever thought you only know what Sully wanted you to know?"
This seemed to catch Spider off guard, though he masked it well with a disdained huff. "Yeah, right."
Quaritch considered his next words carefully. "Why do you worship the ground he walks on?"
Spider turned his full attention back to Quaritch, fire reflecting in his brown eyes. The shriek of a distant ikran and the squad's mundane chatter filled the camp.
"I do not worship him," Spider mumbled.
A sick smile pulled at Quaritch's mouth. The kid was self conscious. "Please."
Spider frowned, his resolve hardening. He made a noise of protest, shaking his head. "Jake's... an amazing war leader. He's Toruk Makto."
"Hmm," Quaritch murmured slowly, nodding his head as he rolled his eyes to the sky.
"He is! He's a fair leader... he's a mighty warrior... he can do anything, pass any trial..."
"Alright, kid." Frustration was starting to grow in Quaritch. Spider clearly believed Sully to be some reincarnation of Jesus or something.
"Screw you," Spider spat, turning away.
The disrespect triggered Quaritch in a way he wasn't expecting. "Excuse me?"
Maybe Spider sensed he'd crossed a line, because his shoulders tensed and he didn't return Quaritch's glare. "You heard me..." he mumbled.
"Yeah I heard you alright, that's the damn problem!" Quaritch raised his voice, but was careful to keep it low enough so as not to attract the attention of the whole camp. "You think Jake Sully is some kind of hero? You think he's a saint? Well guess what kid, that boy ain't everything you make him out to be. He betrayed his own people. He turned against his own... was responsible for hundreds of deaths. Good men and women."
Spider was silent, hunched over. Quaritch wondered how far he could push him. He didn't want to upset Spider, but the kid had to know. "Your mom included."
Spider gasped, turning back to face him. Seconds passed, and Quaritch remained quiet, waiting for Spider to speak.
The kid shook his head. "She..."
"What?" Quaritch prompted bluntly.
Spider's mouth curled up in a snarl, realising he was lost for words. "Fuck you."
With that, the kid got up and stalked away to a nearby tree root, ending the conversation.
Quaritch returned his gaze to the flames. He knew he shouldn't have antagonised Spider. It wasn't fair.
But hearing him talk about Sully like that... it bothered the recom endlessly. Spider didn't deserve to have Jake Sully in his life at all. If it wasn't for him, Spider would still have both of his parents. Humanity would have a viable base on Pandora that was capable of supporting far more humans than its current capacity.
It was rubbing salt in the wound that Sully had been the one to help raise Spider. And by the sounds of it, he couldn't even do that right.
Pity clouded Quaritch's heart as he thought of Spider longing for a father figure, and the best he got was Jake Sully. Kid was too brainwashed to see how fucked up that was.
He sighed into the flames, watching them dance and crackle and spit. He shouldn't take his frustration out on Spider. Tomorrow, he was going to rebuild the bridge he'd just successfully pulled down. The kid deserved an actual dad, one that was gonna fight for him and put him first, and if Spider still hung on to Jake Sully for that, then it was Quaritch's job to make sure that got fixed - the sooner the better.

Accidentally in Love
Written By: Adam Duritz, Dan Vickrey, David Bryson, David Immergluck & Matthew Malley
Artist: Counting Crows
Released: 2004
“I was really struggling with it. I generally don’t write songs on demand, and I almost got to the point where I thought I wasn’t going to do it. They just told me that the song had to be uplifting. They actually said, ‘Don’t write a song about Shrek. Write a song that’s about you.’ The funny thing is, the song ended up reflecting a lot of what was going on in my life at the time: falling in love with someone you’re not supposed to fall in love with because it’s inconvenient. My songs for Counting Crows are mature and generally don’t get a chance to reach kids. To be part of something like that is pretty cool.” – Adam Duritz via Billboard
[Verse 1] So, she said, "What's the problem, baby?" What's the problem? I don't know Well, maybe I'm in love (Love) Think about it Every time I think about it Can't stop thinking 'bout it How much longer will it take to cure this? Just to cure it, 'cause I can't ignore it if it's love (Love) Makes me wanna turn around and face me But I don't know nothin' 'bout love, uh [Chorus] Come on, come on Turn a little faster Come on, come on The world will follow after Come on, come on Because everybody's after love [Verse 2] So I said, I'm a snowball runnin' Runnin' down into the spring that's comin' All this love meltin' under blue skies Belting out sunlight, shimmering love Well, baby, I surrender To this strawberry ice cream Never-ever-ender All this love Well, I didn't mean to do it But there's no escaping your love, oh [Bridge] These lines of lightnin' mean we're never alone Never alone No, no [Chorus] Come on, come on Move a little closer Come on, come on I wanna hear you whisper Come on, come on Settle down inside my love, ohh Come on, come on Jump a little higher Come on, come on If you feel a little lighter Come on, come on We were once upon a time in love [Post-Chorus] We're accidentally in love, accidentally in love Accidentally in love, accidentally in love Accidentally in love, accidentally in love Accidentally in love, accidentally in love Accidentally, I'm in love, I'm in love [Refrain] I'm in love, I'm in love I'm in love, I'm in love Accidentally, I'm in love, I'm in love I'm in love, I'm in love I'm in love, I'm in love Accidentally [Chorus] Come on, come on (Come on) Spin a little tighter Come on, come on (Come on) And the world's a little brighter Come on, come on (Come on) Just get yourself inside her love I'm in love

Washing Machine Heart
Written By: Mitski
Artist: Mitski
Released: 2018
“Washing Machine Heart”, the twelfth track off Be the Cowboy, is sonically upbeat, but lyrically explores the “manic” nature of Mitski’s protagonist, who, in her words: “…is a person who’s in me. It’s just I’m not this person all the time. It’s this woman who feels powerless and overcompensates by exercising extreme control on herself and on her environment, and just trying to be powerful within her own limits of her body and who she is, but kind of just unraveling a little bit because the amount of control she’s exercising on to herself maybe isn’t healthy or isn’t natural. There’s something more warm and human inside that she’s pushing down in order to appear strong to the world." The heavy backbeat in the track may represent the clatter of a washing machine and how it parallels the feverish thrum of Mitski (or her protagonist)’s heart.
[Verse 1] Toss your dirty shoes in my washing machine heart Baby, bang it up inside I'm not wearing my usual lipstick I thought maybe we would kiss tonight [Pre-Chorus] Baby, will you kiss me already? And toss your dirty shoes in my washing machine heart Baby, bang it up inside [Instrumental Chorus] [Verse 2] Baby, though I've closed my eyes I know who you pretend I am I know who you pretend I am [Bridge] But, do-mi-ti Why not me? Why not me? Do-mi-ti Why not me? Why not me? [Chorus] Do-mi-ti Why not me? Why not me?

🥶🥶🥶RAHH. umm not for very story / lyric related reasons no but i have like mega short character playlists (what they would listen 2) for angel and gabby so i do consider those to be their songs kinda . But heres vague? idea list👇
Angel:
- basically any skz song cuz of gabby n the concert thing (thunderous n albums b4 that mostly)
- basically any mcr song cuz thats his established Jam
- washing machine heart + nobody from mitski but tbh thats just cuz i dont listen to any other songs from her. if i did maybe id say the same thing w skz n mcr
- feel good inc + rhinestone eyes from gorillaz. Insert what i said about mitski
- like an idiot from kakizaki yuta cuz its got a cute vibe to it that reminds me of him somehow
- revenge + dont mine at night. not sure why ig the gamer part of jouta stuck w me a little and onto angel in that way
- maybe any selena quintanilla song . thinking emoji
GABBY. i need to redo her playlist i dont rlly think it fits her vibe 😐 heres some i do like 4 her though

MEDIA EWY CONSOOMED IN 2022
alright queers sit down or scroll past because i’m gonna word vomit out my thought on my favourite things i’ve listened to/watched/played this year that i very much liked.
MOOSIC
ants from up there by black country new road: beautiful BEAUTIFUL album, literally 10/10 best album i’ve listened to this year (as like nearly everyone on any music reviewing site has probably also said). if you haven’t listened to it, its about a straining relationship thats painted using the failed aeroplane project ‘concorde’ as a metaphor to represent the sunk loss fallacy. fav song: good will hunting
THE UNRAVELING OF PUP THE BAND by PUP: this was my first introduction to PUP and listening to this album cumulated in me seeing them in Leeds a few months ago! its an amazing, no-skip, punk album. every single song just PUMPS ME UP !!! makes me wanna smash shit, i love it. FAV LYRIC: ‘200 BUCKS A WEEK JUST TO TALK ABOUT MY LACK OF DIRECTION? I GOT A BIT OF A COMPLEX, IN CASE THAT WASN’T CLEAR FROM THE LAST FEW SESSIONS’
The Dream Is Over - PUP: because i loved the latest PUP album so much i literally just had to listen to this. i only listened to this for the first time a few weeks ago and i’d even go as far to say that its better than tuoptp for sure. again, every single song just fucking goes so hard its insane. i just put this shit on when im walking or gaming and i feel like a mad man, i feel like im dancing in a stadium full of people and we’re all feeling a strong sense of melancholy and violence. i love it. fav song: sleep in the heat (editors note: i didnt know what this song was about until i went to learn it on guitar and looked at the lyrics for the first time and it was so fucking sad it nearly made me cry. RIP norman. im sure you were a great friend)
trick - alex g: this album isn’t my introduction to alex g (lincoln’s sandy cover was) but it was my introduction to their wider discography. i first heard sarah on tiktok and just that intro midi flute and guitar strums flung me back into my childhood. i was playing tig in the playground again, i was making up games in the church car park again, i was scraping my knee trying to climb trees way too tall for me again. this album leaves me with a lot of nostalgia from my angsty-nirvana-listening teen years to my young-dumb childhood years. i love it. fav song: sarah (i also have a major love-hate relationship with the song ‘whale’)
God Save The Animals - alex g: the natural step from ‘trick’ was to look at their new album released this year!!! this is SUCH an interesting album. it goes from classic alex g to some crazy hyper pop type stuff and i LOVE it. i super super love the percussion and the way that the vocals are changed and mangled and distorted in so many different ways. it doesn’t necessarily have any earworms per-say but it does have some pretty incredible new sounds that have really inspired me to develop my own style and try some of the effects mr.g has used in this record. fav song: runner
Be The Cowboy - mitski: my first exposure to mitski was from my partner playing their songs on the car and i never really properly understood it until i saw her live. theres just a pure controlled rage about mitski thats hard to describe in words. its a snarl between words. its letting someone know that they fucked you up in an eloquent hand written letter. i love the pumping synths on this album. i love how mitski can push emotion through her voice to tell a story. sometimes she belts, sometimes she sings softly but you can tell when theres rage behind her voice and i love it. fav song: washing machine heart
Hold on Now, Youngster... - Los Campesinos!: theres something about 2000′s indie music that was particularly made in the UK thats so special because growing up there is such an individual experience that it can’t be translated to anywhere else in the world (much like growing up anywhere else!). lc! manages to capture this and put it into song. its about all the boring shitty themes like love and breakup but telling it through the way we interact with each other. through letters, through mixtapes, through inside jokes and superstitions you made yourself. i love love LOVE the horns in this album and how they work with the violin -- its almost poetic at times. every song on this album slaps, i love the outro. fav song: You! Me! Dancing!
Blues and Roots - Charles Mingus: i got really into jazz due to my uni course having a section on it and i found myself particularly fond of a sub-genre of jazz called ‘hardbop’ and this charles mingus fella is INSANE at it. listening to this whilst walking feels amazing, its like i can see different shapes and colours flashing in my brain, with every bop and sax solo it just hits so hard. fav song: moanin’
GAMES
Hollow Knight: the art in this game is stunning first a foremost, you start in an unknown world and you are given NOTHING in terms of lore. even the community to this day does not fully understand the lore and honestly?? i love it. it gives me a sense of child-like wonder wandering caverns looking for secrets and tiny tinges of lore and it actually gets surprisingly emotional?? it deals with themes of loss, grief and parenthood. its very goth, very melancholic and very fucking difficult. i highly recommend this! i sunk around 60 hours into it
Omori: this game will be super difficult to really talk about because I don’t wanna spoil anything at all but: its a really beautiful portrayal of dissociation and trauma. like a lot of people, i really resonated with sunny and his struggles with fears, basic ones like drowning or heights of course, but also more innate fears like the fear of growing up and losing friends or the grief that comes with losing your childhood. If you’re in your late teens or early 20′s it’ll probably of remind you of a time you forgot and a time that you’ll never have back. very emotional game.
Fortnite: okay mikey deafpony introduced me and the friendgroup to this and it fucks so hard. i never really thought i was into battle royale’s but this game just makes it fun and interesting all the time. yeah, okay, the updates are annoying but it keeps the game constantly fresh and new. i highly recommend playing with friends! was pleasantly surprised with it.
WATCHING THINGS
I didn’t really watch that many tv shows/movies this year so i just put them into one thing okay??
Isle of Dogs: its wes anderson. i love the humour. its not laugh out loud funny but its quick and fast paced and i loved how dark this movie gets sometimes ?? its just a lotta fun and sometimes emotional. i love the stop motion and all the artwork is super pretty. im also a weeb so like, japan yay but it does also suffer from orientalism which sucks.
Moomin (2019): Previously, I could never really get behind this version of Moomin because I didn’t like the voice actors and I didn’t like the animation. However, its really grown on me. It does take a few episodes to find its feet and some episodes do fall flat but it really does stay true to the original source material. After watching the first 2 and a bit seasons, I’d probably say that it stays closer to ‘true’ moomin than any other tv adaptation to date. I also now prefer the voice actors in this version. chris morris is hilarious as moominpappa and i liked the featuring of richard ayoade, making us one step closer to an IT crowd x moomin cross over episode. some of the episodes are actually really emotional ?? i couldn’t get over that this adaptation nearly made me cry a couple times.
Heartstopper: i love how UK schools are shown in this show because it FEELS very accurate. some of the script feels kinda GCSE drama but like, its the representation that really stood out for me. i really appreciated how they didn't just focus on the cis experiences but also trans ones too. its very cute, i liked it.
The Batman: i liked robert pattinson’s makeup (and i STOLE it) and this movie made me hold onto whatever masculinity i had left cuz lets be honest everyone wanted to be batman if u watched this movie.
OKAY THATS IT !!! THANKS IF U READ ALL OF THIS LOL

musically i really love be the cowboy. lyrically, maybe bury me at make out creek. though i also loved the land is inhospitable and so are we
there's something about the sound of lush, but i haven't heard all of them i think (i think i've only listened to all the songs of laurel hell)
i think i won't like retired from sad new career in business as a whole but that's such a good name!!!!
again, it's be the cowboy and laurel hell because at the end of the day, i like cheerful songs.... cheerful is not the word. I guess I like lively songs, with an upbeat tempo, a la nobody, why didn't you stop me, should've been me or washing machine heart, those aren't necessarily cheerful songs, but they have great lyrics and a sound i particularly love
i want to listen to the whole mitski discography but if i listen to whole albums i get bored and don't pay attention to the songs. I prefer to go each by each, discovering what I can along the way, and eventually listen the albums in full. I did that with Marina and Queen and I really enjoyed it.

shin!!
Ah yes Shin, We love shin <3
He actually has a playlist! So that makes it easier for me! (sorry in advance for spelling or grammar mistakes as I am far to lazy to spell check this.)
Little pistol - Mother Mother
I think this song fits for a multitude of reasons. It states feeling scared, and afraid. Also the parts talking about brimstones and Roses reminds me of Kanna’s death! Also Gun terminology with Shin just feels right to me; considering the scene in the blue room where he asks for the gun, is a very important part of his character.
My Alcoholic Friends - The Dresden Dolls
This song I feel really reflects his relationship with the real Sou Hiyori/Midori, specifically the ending. “Should I choose a noble occupation? If I did i’d only show up late and sick.” He’s self employed. “And they would stare at me with hatred” He constantly assumes the other participants hate him. “Plus my only natural talents wasted on my alcoholic friends” His only natural talent being, well hacking. He wasted lots of time hacking with Sou.
The Stand - Mother Mother
I see this as conversations he’s had with Kanna. Just, the calmer ones. The way the reactions are fit him really well, kinda fast but explaining his thoughts fairly well. (Not much to say about this one really)
Be Nice To Me - The Front Bottoms
Another song that I associate with him & Sou! “But your a killer, and I’m your best friend” feels perfect. As Sou is a killer and Shin did see him as a best friend. Most of the song is about how the singer feels as though he gave everything to his friend to get very little in return. “Can we talk about this later, your voice is driving me insane” is a lyric thats used multiple times and that just fits how Shin feels about Sou really well I feel.
But yeah! Theres a few Shin songs! (I really like mother mother if you can’t tell.) Heres the rest of my songs from shin’s playlist listed that I didn’t fully explain just for fun! (anything with shin & kanna is platonic, soushin shippers also aren’t welcome here.)
Nobody - Mitski
Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing - Set It Off
Anti-Hero - SEKAI NO OWARI
1997 - Saint Motel (Shin & Sou)
Ship in a Bottle - fin
Problems - Mother Mother (Shin & Kanna)
Animal - Sir Chloe
Two Birds - Regina Spector (Shin & Kanna)
Washing Machine Heart - Mitski (Shin & Kanna)
Life itself - Glass Animals
Blah Blah Blah - The Oozes (Shin & Sou)
Rhinestone Eyes - Gorillaz (Shin & Sou)
Dog Days are Over - Florence + the machine

The Art of Grief : A Reflection from the Author’s point of view on the Anthology (Lockdown Litanies: Countless Untold Stories) An Essay by Eliaj Phoebe Fernando
As we all know, losing something or someone is painful and melancholic. Loss is breakups, cutting friends off, losing something, or death. But with grief, there is beauty and pain and it's what makes us humane. In this essay, the author will simply put their perspective on the different experiences of Filipinos during these trying times.
Dear Diary
Reading up on this persona and their experience, I would say I highly resonate with what they went through and especially with the line that goes “Until then, I’ll forgo myself, move away and discover a world on my own. I know I won’t be the same again. ” It means as you go down any road, you can find different versions of yourself. Just like Taylor Swift’s song Mirrorball lyric “I want you to know, I'm a mirrorball. I can change everything about me to fit in.” Because being a mirrorball has its beauty of seeing different reflections of yourself and shining out when you're at your best. Knowing you won't ever be the same person from your past.
The Tale of a Modern Sisyphus
We all know how the 2022 elections went. And by now, we are all still grieving from losing one of the greatest hopes the Filipinos can ask for. This poem is a metaphor for the elections and yes, this will get political. Metaphorically I’d say we are the modern Sisyphus. “A burden is less felt when carried together” said from the poem, because we will carry this burden and it will be passed down through generations and the regrets we’ve done we would probably wonder “was it all worth it?”. I would like to associate this poem with the song The Man by Taylor Swift as the lyric goes “I'd be a fearless leader. I'd be an alpha type. When everyone believes ya, what's that like?” in this generation and era people have become so disinformed by what they see on the media or whatever sources that wasn’t liable at all, with that they believe that the history of Marcoses, the lies, the deaths, and the extra judicial killings , etc. They think it was a better time and era and they believe Marcoses for or BBM today that he’d do better now. Ever since Leni joined the elections the misogyny was worse and she was put down just because she was a woman. And this is why i associate that lyric to the situation because maybe if she was a man maybe people would’ve believed her more and had more faith on her.
O’ Yayi
Okay, reading this poem was quite heartbreaking. Not only does it discusses grief but the pain of not being chosen is just really painful. With all the efforts you’ve done for someone but yet they can’t even remember you or think of your existence at all, because theyre thoughts are set on somebody else. I remembered Mitski’s Washing Machine Heart and i quote “Baby, though I've closed my eyes,I know who you pretend I am” i chose this lyric because of what the persona said in the poem. I quote “If ever I run out of time here and reach the other side, whose arms would you run back again, mine or Dante’s?” Only because the song discusses that this person you love will choose someone that they admire more than you, really painful.
Two Red Laces on the Wonderwall
With this poem, it’s really sad that secrets have been kept and its a lie that’s hard to accept. There was this line in the poem “I fell in your words. You, secretive. “Maybe you should get yourself tested.” and it reminds me of Circle by Mitski and this specific lyric that goes “There's a lie that I told to you. That now I can't tell the truth. And it ate me inside, so one soft drunken night” Because even if you ask them to “Get Tested” they’re not able to tell the whole truth that they might’ve given it to them. The grief of having a disease that is with you till your death bed and you can’t even do anything for it to be curable, its heavy for the mind and heart.
Umbilical
Here we will discuss about motherhood, the pain and the beauty of being a mother. There is so much effort and love when it comes to being a mother, one of that is being birthed into this world. In this poem the new born is pleading from the darkness to save their mother from death. It is heartbreaking for a mother to be gone when their new born was just birthed in this world. I can only associate this poem with the song Fourth of July by Sufjan Stevens, I quote “And I'm sorry I left, but it was for the best. Though it never felt right” this lyric hits close to home with this line from the poem “You have made your purpose, I guarantee. Hush, sleep tight. Everything will be alright.” It just means that she had made her purpose of giving birth and her time has come.
RE: Paper (I’m Red, IMRaD)*
Our country is one of the known ones struggling when it comes to education. This country have not overcome the educational crisis mostly because the government do not prioritize education nor health either. “Ironically, in areas we expect for leadership, Communication, media, and socio-emotional management. We are not that high.” I quote from the poem. Its sad that the government doesn’t notices how much they are failing the education system in our country because they focus more on buildings and infarstractures. What we need is a leader, a hope for our troubles. Yet, it’s been a 100 days and our so called “Leader” has not done anything to the country yet. “Now everybody, do the propaganda and sing along to the age of paranoia” I quote from the lyrics of American Idiot by Green Day Because nowadays there is so much propaganda happening and they turn the attention onto the propaganda instead of focusing on the crisis we have in the system.
3 A.M. Awakening
This has got to be one of my favorite poems in this compilation. Not only is it because im quite a pessimist but its so beautifully written. What really struck me was this line from the poem “And so, breathe gently ten times and let go. Count seconds and feel the world down below.” this really reminded me of one of my favorite songs by Aurora, Half the World Away. This song just speaks to me so much and so does this poem. “You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway. You're half the world away” as the lyrics goes. This song is perfect to associate with this poem mainly because the lyrics and the poem kin each other. As the persona jumps down they are now half the world away or down below now, they have ended their hopes and dreams. And it ends with a loud thud. Misery and troubles are gone.
My Frail Lady
This is also a favorite poem of mine in the compilation. It’s like the words dance with each other gracefully. As it has been said that this poem is inspired by “The Most Beautiful Suicide” and that is why i want to kin this poem with the song The Last Words of a Shooting Star by Mitski If I would’ve died this song would’ve been my last letter to the people i have left. The lyric “And while my dreams made music in the night . Carefully
I was going to live.” would be best associated with this line from the poem “Freedom at long last Upon her long, quiet pause. Hers is but a dream.” I just think that their dreams wouldn’t last anymore as they’ve ended their lives and alas, like the lyric said they were going to live but really that was the only freedom they have left which was death.
Major Arcana
This poem is more of a fortune or luck kind of
story-telling. Which is really unique I'd say because it’s in the form of tarot readings. I’ve also used to do tarot readings from the past year, it was really fun puzzling your fortune and future. With this poem i want to relate it to the song called Happiness by Taylor Swift and the lyric goes “There'll be happiness after me.But there was happiness because of me. Both of these things, I believe there is happiness” I'm going to connect that lyric with this line from the poem “And the likelihood after this storm is the Sun beaming upon you. Finally receiving its warmth and vitality, you will also bloom. A heraldic time to celebrate soon, Mister. Just hold on.” Because well, the card that was last pulled was the Sun, and the reason I want to kin the line and lyrics because what is said in the lyric was that ‘there is happiness because of me’ and when you think of happiness you think of the sun and it’s warmth as well was it’s vitality. All these Positive lines or lyrics leads to you and only you can make your happiness or the good things happen because of you.
In summation, the deaths, lost memories, dreams and hope. We grieve because we have lost these things throughout the pandemic even if it sounds depressing you can always still see the beauty of grieving. The pain, emotion, and the stages that we go through. Painful yes, but the beauty or the art of grieving is what makes us live still. It's what makes us humans in the first place. Grieving is beautiful, it is poetic in a way. I think us humans experiencing grief is so powerful than any other living terrestrials in the universe. Having such powerful emotions is amazing. Even if we go thru grief, like the last stage of grief is acceptance. Eventually it gets better and everything we went through was worth every emotion we felt.

the power behind sad girl music
by Gabriélla Siebritz
My introduction to “sad girl music” - solemn breakup anthems, deeply metaphorical self-reflection ballads, angry girl power melodies - was brought to me on the pink iPod I received one Christmas as a gift at the tender age of eight. Some of the first few songs I had downloaded (with approval from my mom) were Leave (get out) by the iconic 2000s singer Jojo, Complicated by the legendry Avril Lavigne and Behind These Hazel Eyes by the American Idol herself, Kelly Clarkson.
From the get-go it seems, I was destined to be a feelings type of girl. Internally my emotions were loud, before eventually spilling over into my reality.
As my tastes and personality developed as I grew, I discovered my love for songs that have a melancholic and somewhat dramatic touch to it. I love music that makes me stop, pause the music and sit with the lyrics, accompanied by visuals that I get to analyse and dissect - I eagerly want to dive headfirst into a rabbit hole of metaphors and Easter eggs cleverly left behind by the artists I admire.
From Avril Lavigne, came Taylor Swift; although, admittedly I wasn’t a fully-fledged Swiftie until recently. And now, here I sit, with my Spotify open and the voice of Taylor, along with the voices of Lorde, Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs, SZA, Mitski, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, to name a few, filling up my room. I've always found it satisfying to scream along to lyrics, even if the situation penned by these singers doesn’t always apply to me.
Music is open to interpretation after all, so while I might not have had the same tumultuous relationship Taylor Swift sang about in her ten minute song All Too Well (Taylor’s Version) or knowingly been in a damaging relationship like Mitski was in Washing Machine Heart, or begging not to share the love I have with my partner with outsiders invading the relationship as FKA Twigs did in her song Cellophane, their words still ring true and tug on my heartstrings, urgently pulling at me to listen on repeat and find ways to relate it to myself or anything else I find joy (and sadness) in.
SZA's song, Normal Girl, is told from the singer’s perspective of being in love with someone she can’t have because she doesn’t fit or measure up to his standards, according to an article written by Todayville. Unrequited love isn’t a brand new concept, but these words coming from a Black woman was made relatable for other women of colour, including myself.
She beautifully sings lyrics such as “wanna be the type of girl you take home to your mama / the type of girl I know your fellas they’d be proud of” - SZA is specifically talking about how she doesn’t fit into society’s ideals and therefore doesn’t fit into the box of beauty that the guy she’s in love with has built. Feeling out of place is a common experience for many of us, but different chords are struck as a woman of colour navigating a world of white femininity and white beauty standards.
One of my favourite things to do is to create playlists based on anything I'm currently enjoying. for example, I've made playlists relating to my favourite tv shows, like the cultural resets that were Gilmore girls, The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars.
As I previously mentioned, I might not be able to relate to every heartbreak the aforementioned artists have written and sung about, but when I listen to a song I make connections between the lyrics and these fictional characters I find comfort in. Almost every Taylor Swift song can effortlessly be used as narration of the Gilmore girls’ plot, proving that sad girl music serves and performs well in both the real and fictional worlds.
Sad girl music doesn’t only explore love and the loss that comes with it, but also offers perspective on the world from multiple eyes. My first introduction to sad girl music was at eight years old - I had little to no experience with love or the world at the time, but the music touched me nonetheless. as Harper’s Bazaar writer Laia Garcia-Furtado put it, “it wasn’t long before I was enveloped in the universe of Sad Girl Music, a (derisive) term that some of the most brilliant female singer-songwriters in music history have been saddled with—women whose songs articulate the particular feeling of living in a constant state of awareness that the world is not a hospitable or fair place for anyone who refuses to serve the interests of the patriarchy.”
It might be confusing to some (older generations, maybe) to hear that listening to sad girl music while sad to make us feel even more sad is a daily practice for a lot of us, but it brings comfort.
It covers us like a blanket of melancholy, allowing us to feel our feelings; acknowledge and recognize them while reveling in the satisfaction that somewhere, somehow, an artist was able to wiggle their way into our special and individual minds as listeners and find just the right ways to scratch the itch of the ever-present question: why? They’ve found ways to gather our thoughts and feelings, wrap it in a bow of lyrical genius and present the gift of sad girl music.

songs from my on repeat playlist on spotify that i think the ghosts would like/remind me of them, pt 2:
decided to remake this post from a year and a half ago, this time with a different on repeat because i’m bored and somehow managed to bring my ghosts obsession back. i’m probably going to struggle with assigning songs to all of them due to the abundance of noel gallagher in my on repeat (don’t ask) but we move.
robin: this must be the place (naive melody) - the talking heads
it’s just cute and shamelessly happy. it feels like him. i’m already imagining an edit of him to the intro. (it was a tough debate between him and kitty for this but nothing else really suited robin.)
humphrey: sail on - noel gallagher’s high flying birds
makes me think of his ability to move on. he was married to and sacrificed himself for someone he didn’t love, but doesn’t wallow in self-pity or ask for anything.
mary: mr tambourine man - bob dylan
i think mary’d like folk music. it would remind her of her life. this song can be a bit far fetched lyrics wise and would fit perfectly for her improvisation skills
kitty: colour me blue - alfie templeman
just a pure, happy song about being in love. she’d adore it.
thomas: this night has opened my eyes - the smiths
yes i know thomas is a cure head but. angsty. “she could have been a poet or she could’ve been a fool”. like are you telling me that isn’t thomas.
(also, honourable mention to bad habit by steve lacy, yes we’re all overusing that song atm, but it does apply to him with isabelle. and it is a banger tbf)
lady b: washing machine heart - mitski
everyone always loves assigning mitski to cap, but i say: “ i know who you pretend i am”. miss gal was married to a gay man. it’s angsty. she’s always grumpy. she would act like she hates it then sob to it when no one’s around
captain: temptation - new order
ah, my skrunkly beloved captain. he would almost certainly not listen to this but i think it applies to him fairly well. it feels like how he’d feel when he’s in love. trying to tell himself it’s wrong but he can’t help but feel it, and it feels great. but he finds it hard to express his feelings and the love he has.
(honourable mention to just take my wallet by jack stauber. tbh any sad jack stauber song that i know applies to him.)
pat: right back where we started from - maxine nightingale
fun. happy. the sort of song to dance around to in your socks in the kitchen. pat energy at its finest.
julian: black star dancing - noel gallagher’s high flying birds
it’s a horny song. no other reasoning to be honest

Be the cowboy. Good luck I’ve only listened to six songs from that album on repeat
oh well one thing about me is that i don't know how to listen to something casually. so i barely listen to music but enough ppl on here were crazy abt mitski and so i listened to her and then couldn't stop and now i have her discography mostly memorized .anyway
geyser: i will be the one you need / the way i can't be without you
why didn't you stop me: i look for a picture of you / to keep in my pocket / but i can't seem to find one where you / look how i remember
old friend: every time i drive through the city where you're from / i squeeze a little
pearl: there's a hole that you fill, you fill, you fill / it's just that i fell in love with a war / and nobody told me it ended
lonesome love: nobody butters me up like you / and nobody fucks me like me
remember my name: just how many stars do i need to hang around me / to finally call it heaven
me and my husband: and i am the idiot with a painted face / in the corner taking up space / but when he walks in / i am loved, i am loved
come into the water: are you waiting to touch me / you look so good but i keep my hands / 'til you come into the water
nobody: i've been big and small / and big and small / and big and small again / and still nobody wants me
pink in the night: it's like a summer shower / with every drop of rain singing / i love you i love you i love you / i love you i love you i love you / i love you i love you i love you
a horse named cold air: i thought i'd traveled a long way / but i had circled the same old sins
washing machine heart: toss your dirty shoes in my washing machine heart / baby bang it up inside
blue light: somebody kiss me / i'm going crazy / i'm walking 'round the house naked / silver in the night
two slow dancers: it's funny how i still forgot / it would be a hundred times easier / if we were young again
send me a (mitski) album & I'll pick my favorite lyrics from every song

Why not me?

Unforgettable
Written By: Irving Gordon
Artist: Nat King Cole
Released: 1952
Cover included: Natalie Cole, 1991
"Unforgettable" is a popular song written by Irving Gordon. The song's original working title was "Undeniable"; however, the music publishing company asked Gordon to change it to "Unforgettable". The song was published in 1951. The most popular version of the song was recorded by Nat King Cole in 1951 from his album Unforgettable (1952), with an arrangement written by Nelson Riddle. A non-orchestrated version of the song recorded in 1952 is featured as one of the seven bonus tracks on Cole's 1998 CD reissue of 1955's otherwise completely instrumental album, Penthouse Serenade. On March 30, 1961, Nat King Cole recorded the tune anew in a stereo version (with Ralph Carmichael and his Orchestra) of the Riddle arrangement, for the album The Nat King Cole Story (1961). In 1991, after Elvis Presley's musical director Joe Guercio had the idea, Cole's original 1951 recording of the song was edited and reworked to create a duet with his daughter, Natalie. The remixed version reached number 14 on the Hot 100, matching the peak position of the original version on the Billboard Best-Selling Pop Singles chart, and also number three on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. [Chorus] Unforgettable That's what you are Unforgettable Though near or far [Verse 1] Like a song of love that clings to me How the thought of you does things to me Never before Has someone been more… [Chorus] Unforgettable In every way And forevermore That's how you'll stay [Verse 2] That's why, darling, it's incredible That someone so unforgettable Thinks that I am Unforgettable, too [Interlude] [Chorus] Unforgettable In every way And forevermore That's how you'll stay [Verse 3] That's why, darling, it's incredible That someone so unforgettable Thinks that I am Unforgettable, too
