A full moon shined in a bright, stunning spectacle, high above Miss Robichaux’s Academy. A striking contrast to the black skies of a particularly cool Halloween night. Shrouded in a veil of evening darkness, the old-fashioned academy emitted an otherworldly glow. From the first floor windows, flashing lights of slime green and hellish orange flickered in endless repetition.
Inside, a small group of young witches danced. Dressed in their skimpiest costumes, they moved fluidly to the beat of Oingo Boingo’s Dead Man’s Party. Blaring loudly through a large set of speakers, the tune mingled with the girls’ laughter. Meanwhile, the older women of the academy socialized near cluttered snack tables. They chatted away with each other, paying no mind to their free-spirited students.
Dead Man’s Party.
An ironic song, you thought. Given the only ‘dead’ man in the room seemed beyond confused. You wondered if he even knew what the purpose of a party was. His Frankenstein brain might’ve forgotten parties entirely. Such a concept was also ironic. Considering, when he was alive, Kyle had attended enough frat parties to keep the beer industry thriving for years at a time.
The ancestral room felt alive with energy. You stood in a corner with your back against the wall, sipping overpriced punch Myrtle Snow had prepared herself. An unamused look crossed your face, as you watched Zoe and Madison dance. Their movements were effortless and intentionally suggestive.
Between them, looking out of place and somewhat lost, was Kyle. The zombified blond was hunched over in his loose-fitting flannel shirt. And his expression spoke of someone who had no idea what was happening around him. Unlike everyone else in the room, he hadn’t worn a costume.
Poor guy. It seemed like no one had warned him ahead of time.
There was an unmistakable tension in the air, as Madison and Zoe grinded their thin figures against Kyle. The indecent movements of their dancing were almost unbearable to watch. And you couldn’t help but recoil at the sight. The girls glared at each other, trying to outdo the other in a shallow competition for Kyle’s attention.
As Kyle stood there, he kept his head tilted down. His curly, blond hair fell into his face, and his eyes were blank and empty. Kyle must have been oblivious to the girls’ intentions. You felt a pang of discomfort in your chest at the thought.
“Jeez…it’s like I’m watchin’ a car crash in real time…and I can’t look away…” You said, sipping your punch.
Queenie, dressed in a dingy, striped sweater and a Freddy Krueger cap, leaned casually against the wall next to you. Her sweater fell loose off her shoulder, leaving it bare. She sipped her punch as she laughed, her Kreuger claws resting on her hip. Oingo Boingo echoed in the background, competing with the sound of her voice as she spoke.
“Those two are a wreck if I’ve ever seen one.” She joked, shaking her head, “Somebody’s gotta get in there and save that poor guy. Dude looks miserable. ”
“How pissed do you think they’d be if I cut in?” You asked. Glancing down at the lacy hem of your dress, you toyed with it idly in thought.
The pounding music in the room seemed to pulse in time with your heartbeat. Danny Elfman’s wavering voice echoed, booming throughout the floor.
I’m all dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin’ with a dead man, with a dead man
Your ruby red slippers twinkled on your feet. You wore an (admittedly) revealing Dorothy of Oz costume, with a blue dress lined with white lace. The skirt barely reached past your thighs, showing off your legs in thin, white stockings. You clutched a decorative picnic basket, with a plush, scottie dog sticking his head out from inside. His beady eyes shined in the party lights.
“You’d be doin’ Kyle a favor if you did. But, girl, I dunno…” Queenie pushed herself off the wall, “You know those two ain’t messin’ around. They’re feral over him. Listen, whatever you decide to do? It’s your funeral. We’ve all seen what happens when Madison loses her shit.”
Queenie sauntered off then, her hips swaying with each step. She joined Nan on the dance floor. And you let out a sigh, knocking your head against the wall. After watching Zoe and Madison’s shameful display for a few moments longer, you decided enough was enough. You pulled your phone from your basket to check the time. Only 6pm.
Gracing your ears in tune with the catchy beat of the song, Danny Elfman’s voice rang out.
Don’t run away, it’s only me
Don’t be afraid of what you can’t see
If your hunch was correct, neighborhood trick-or-treating had only just begun. And even though you and Kyle were well into adulthood, the thought of indulging in such an innocent, nostalgic activity was too enticing to resist. Halloween was a holiday wherein Kyle could blend in with the general population. And if you accompanied him, he’d finally get some reprieve from the constant objectification he was accustomed to. It was a win-win.
You waited a few more minutes, hoping the two girls would eventually tire of their petty competition. As time passed, Madison finally stumbled off in her heels. Presumably to have a smoke out back. Queenie, ever the helpful friend, pulled Zoe away for a dance. Leaving Kyle free of anyone’s clutches. Seizing your chance, you immediately stepped in. And you lead him upstairs to your room.
It took around ten minutes for the two of you to finally leave the academy for trick-or-treating.
Five minutes to patiently explain your plan to Kyle, trying your best to help him understand. And another five minutes to help him get ready, after struggling to clarify what Halloween was to begin with. You asked if he wanted to dress up in a costume. 
Kyle’s only response was a simple, slurred-
“W-Woooooolf.”
He then made an awroooo sound in an adorable attempt to mimic a wolf’s howl. It was the cutest thing you’d ever seen Kyle do. And hearing him make such a precious sound instantly melted your heart.
You took the time to chat with Kyle. And you joked that if you’d known ahead of time he wanted to be a wolf, the two of you could have coordinated costumes. Perhaps you could have gone as Little Red Riding Hood, and him as the big, bad wolf. Even though you weren’t sure if Kyle understood the reference, he gave you the sweetest smile nonetheless. In his undead eyes, you saw a sparkle of lingering humanity. You couldn’t help but smile back, feeling your heart melt just a little more.
Carefully guiding Kyle to the bathroom, you brought him in front of the mirror. Using a dark, eyeliner pencil, you drew a big, black dot on the tip of his nose. Then, with a steady hand, you doodled adorable, cartoon whiskers on his cheeks.
Which, in retrospect, made him look more like a cat than a wolf.
But Kyle seemed delighted with his new appearance regardless. He held his big hands up in front of the mirror, curling his fingers into claws. Kyle faked a snarl, scrunching his nose and showing off his pink-tinted teeth. The teeth of a dead man.
To your own surprise, you managed to sneak Kyle out of the academy without a single hitch.
For the next few hours, you lead him around a local neighborhood. As the two of you made your way down the street, you marveled at the eerie decorations at every house. Politely, you approached each doorstep, excitedly proclaiming, “ Trick-or-treat! ” while holding Kyle’s hand loosely in yours.
Thankfully, nobody seemed to mind that you two were well past the necessary age for trick-or-treating.
You stopped to explain the concept of Halloween to him once more, after he struggled to understand what trick-or-treating was. He furrowed his blond brows, as though deep in thought. Kyle made a frustrated grunt in response. You couldn’t help but smile, finding his confusion…strangely endearing. Everything about him was endearing, really.
Despite his initial confusion, Kyle definitely enjoyed the candy aspect of Halloween. The treats. His opaque eyes lit up with glee, and he held his pumpkin bucket up in front of you like a fabulous prize. You cheered him on, showing off your basket overflowing with goodies.
A thick mugginess in the air felt sticky against your skin. As the hour grew later, the air shifted to a sharper, colder chill. Crisp, autumn leaves fluttered in the breeze, twirling in colorful circles along the road. The once charming decorations at every house now appeared all too creepy in the dark. Illuminated only by a combination of moonlight, and the occasional streetlight; the neighborhood appeared desolate and empty. You wrapped an arm around yourself for security and warmth.
Perhaps it was time to return to the academy before things got any spookier.
Kyle loomed in close proximity to you all night. And as the hours passed, he leaned in even closer. Part of you began to question your assumptions about him. Perhaps you had misjudged. Maybe Kyle appreciated the constant attention Zoe and Madison gave him back at the academy.
His craving for physical touch was obvious. Every time you tried to create some space between the two of you, he pressed himself against you again. It became clear then, physical intimacy was something Kyle wanted on an almost constant basis. And given his limited communication skills, you figured he had no other way of expressing such a need. He stuck to your side like glue, walking with you throughout the cold, dark neighborhood.
You were reminded of that Oingo Boingo song. Dead Man’s Party.

Despite his proximity, Kyle’s body provided you with no warmth. You were left plagued by the nightly chill in the air. And out of nowhere, Kyle groaned, sounding displeased about… something. You didn’t know what. Worried it was your fault, you moved to give him more space. Kyle appeared even more annoyed then. He choked on words he couldn’t say. And you stopped in your tracks on the sidewalk. Gazing at him with concern in your eyes, you tried to deduce what the problem was.
“Hey, K-” You started.
Before you could ask him, Kyle reached out a hand. He stared down at you with black, cloudy eyes. Between his pale, grey lips rested a half-eaten candy bar. His fingers were covered with sticky chocolate. And he made a move to pull the collar of your low-cut dress down.
“Oh! Wh-...Kyle!! What are you doing, honey?!” You shrieked in hushed surprise.
At that moment, something must have clicked in Kyle’s Frankenstein brain. Some kind of instinctive shift.
Even though he loved his candy, chocolate wasn’t necessarily the kind of Halloween treat he wanted. He pulled the chocolate bar from his lips, tossing it aside into the grass.
“Treeeaat…” He slurred, with his pale, chapped lips coated in chocolate. Kyle tugged the front of your dress down even lower, “Tr…tr-trick…or treeeat?”
Your breasts almost popped out from the force of his strong tug. The swell of them bounced in a mesmerizing display, looking supple and smooth. Smears of chocolate stained the clean, white lace of your dress. Gasping, you backed up before Kyle could do anymore damage. You stumbled on your sparkling, ruby slippers. As you struggled to find your balance, Kyle eagerly followed. He pushed his strong body against yours, leaning down to kiss you.
“Kyle, no! N-Not that I mind, if this is what you want! But…can you at least wait until we get home, bud?” You protested, bringing a hand to his mouth to stop him.
You were fearful of any late-night passerby catching the two of you in such a compromising position. Kyle knit his brows together, put off by your rejection. You gave him a sympathetic look, and lowered your hand.
Whatever you said before, none of it registered. Kyle abruptly attacked your neck with his mouth, and you sucked in a sharp breath. His lips were frigid and cold against your skin, their rough, chapped texture scraping across your neck. Reveling in your taste, he hungrily swirled his cool, slimy tongue.
“Honey, no-...s-stop! You can’t-” You pathetically whined, patting him repeatedly on the shoulders to get his attention.
Kyle devoured your neck like a Halloween treat, sloppily tonguing your smooth, warm skin. You squirmed as he wrapped his thick arms around you tightly, pulling you closer. The entire weight of Kyle’s body pressed itself into yours. Dead weight. You lost your balance again, stumbling backwards. And without meaning to, you slipped off your feet behind a nearby lining of bushes.
Taking a tumble, Kyle came down with you. He immediately took advantage of your vulnerable position on the ground, crawling over your body. Even as you continued to protest, Kyle’s attention returned to your neck. He nipped at your skin, flicking his sticky tongue in a desperate thirst for more of you. Underneath your body, you felt dewey grass seep wetness into your dress. You squirmed again, hesitant to give in to Kyle’s reckless desire.
“Pleaaaase! Just let me-...Kyle, please, help me up, won’t you?” You begged in a desperate plea.
He groaned a throaty noise into your soft neck, and his hands began to explore your body. Fighting to maintain your dignity, as well as your modesty; you made another move to push Kyle off of you. Your hands pressed hard at his thick shoulders, but he refused to budge.
“I’m serious! If you wanna do this together, we can, okay? Just…not here! This is…it’s a neighborhood, right? What if someone sees?? Let’s just wait until we get home, please?” You insisted, “Kyle, p-
Unexpectedly, he cut you off (or shut you up, rather) with a surprise kiss. 
Lips of a muted, grey hue collided with your own, more saturated ones. A kiss of life and death. Kyle’s lips were ice cold, molding effortlessly with your warmth. He tasted of a bizarre mix between cheap, dollar store chocolate and…something else you didn’t recognize. Something almost…earthy.
He was the sloppiest kisser you ever locked lips with. Prodding at your lips fiercly with his tongue, Kyle demanded entrance. When you didn’t let him in, a frustrated growl vibrated through his mouth. His hand darted down to your chest, where he tugged the front of your dress with an even stronger pull. Threatening to rip it apart, as though he knew you would protest.  
You opened your mouth with a surprised squeak, scrambling to pull Kyle’s hand away.
That oozy, freezing tongue of his slithered its way past your lips like a wiggly leech. Thick and slimy in your mouth. Kyle’s kisses became filled with a wild and unrestrained passion. Even though such a messy makeout session would be off-putting to anyone else, you found yourself melting into it. Despite having no concept of restraint or consistency, Kyle’s lack of skill was somehow intoxicating. You were irresistibly drawn to his discolored, dead man tongue.
You couldn’t help but think of how you always admired the way he looked.
When he was alive, Kyle was undeniably stunning, and so gorgeous. He had one of those beautiful, sunshine smiles, and golden hair to match. But after his resurrection, he was viewed as somewhat of a monster. Since the initial work done to bring him back had been less than subpar. To the average person, Kyle looked like a walking corpse pulled straight out of Night of the Living Dead.
However, Kyle’s zombified appearance did nothing to deter you. In death, you found him attractive in about a million other, more forbidden ways. Perhaps you were a bit of a freak behind closed doors.
And now, you had the opportunity to appreciate Kyle, in all his reanimated glory. Allowing yourself to explore his bulky, undead form. Corpse-like in appearance, Kyle’s body seemed right on the cusp of decay.
Maybe you could indulge in your curiosity and unconventional attraction…for just a few minutes. A moment or two wouldn’t hurt. Kyle was obviously desperate for the attention anyway. It was almost cute, really. The way he fought so hard to fool around with you.
Yeah. A few minutes of teasing touches. And then, you’d surely head back to the academy together.
You hesitated to touch Kyle intimately at first, careful not to cross any personal boundaries.
You knew Kyle harbored strict boundaries somewhere in that Frankenstein brain of his. Misty had told both you and Zoe all about it. Though, none of you had any clue where such boundaries originated. Was Kyle somehow self conscious? Did his instincts operate on a more intense, animalistic level of fight or flight? There wasn’t any way for him to tell you, and you’d never be able to guess on your own. Best to tread lightly.
Kyle loomed over you, guzzling your lips and tongue like a hungry man starved. Raising a hand, the tips of your fingers took a careful chance. They brushed across the poorly sewn stitches in his neck. Grazing his prominent scars, you traced their irregular lining.
You were afraid he might recoil, but Kyle instantly melted into your touch. His shoulders fell slack for a moment, and he moaned a soft, little whine into your mouth. It was as if tracing the scarred etching of stitches brought him some sense of relief.
A trail of thick, gooey saliva connected your tongues, as Kyle pulled his lips from yours. He gazed down into your eyes with a soft expression. The cute dot you'd drawn on his nose was slightly smudged now, along with those kitty wolf whiskers. You noted the way his hefty form looked, illuminated by a faint blanket of warm, yellow light. The street light flickered from above, as if threatening to abandon the two of you in the dark.
You stared back into Kyle’s foggy eyes. They were somewhat empty of humanity, with black pupils blown wide. His brawny chest became exposed, as you unbuttoned the thick flannel of Kyle’s shirt. Trembling fingers felt across his pecs, your skin burning hot against Kyle’s lifeless cold. He shuddered under your touch, arching his back slightly.
“W-Waaarm.” He slurred, “Mooore…”
Patches of discoloration decorated Kyle’s broad torso. They reminded you of a tropical desert map. One in which Kyle’s pale skin was the desert sand. Portions of his flesh had turned yellow in color. Faint hues of deep purple and sea-foam blue leaked through, similar to a watercolor palette. You ran your fingers over the discolored patches of skin, feeling subtle, textural changes. Kyle’s skin was overall smooth, but slightly torn near his ribs.
“Stop me if-uh…if this hurts, okay?” You whispered in a soft tone. Kyle tilted his head, the blonde curls of his hair dangling over his face.
Morbid curiosity overcame you, as you momentarily delved deeper into Kyle’s ripped flesh. The texture of his skin was uneven, as the surrounding skin had dried out slightly. Hesitant, yet alarmingly eager, you dipped your fingers into a decaying wound close to his ribs. Keeping your eyes on Kyle’s face, you searched his expression for any signs of discomfort. Beyond the scabbed edges of his skin, your fingers found a cold, mushy cavern inside.
You felt the cold rigidity of his rib bones just beneath the surface, the dampness of his insides slimy and raw. Kyle’s breathing steadily grew labored the longer you explored him from the inside. His jaw fell slack, dark eyes rolling back in his deep sockets. After teasing the wound for a few beats longer, you pulled your digits from it. A warm blush pooled in your cheeks, and you exhaled a flustered laugh. Ashamed of yourself.
“S-Sorry, honey…” You apologized, “Are you okay? I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
Kyle whimpered in response, wildly shaking his head. A slimy stickiness lingered on the tips of your fingers. And you made a mental note to thoroughly wash your hands once you finally returned to the academy.
You explored Kyle’s peculiar body for a moment longer. Beautiful, blue veins were visible under the thin layer of his skin. You traced those veins, following their intricate, web-like patterns. Kyle’s eyes fell closed as you did. He hummed soft, submissive whines. His head occasionally jerked in sudden, instinctive motions. After opening his eyes, Kyle stared down at you with a more lax, half-lidded expression.
You noted the way his eye sockets were slightly sunken in, appearing almost skeletal. A smokey darkness surrounded his foggy, black eyes, making them pop when they widened with abrupt impatience.
Growing fed up with your slow-paced, careful touches, Kyle darted down. He returned to his original task, gnawing pink teeth against the burning flesh of your neck. Your blood pulsed under your skin, beating against his slimy tongue. You brought your hands up to his blonde curls, carding your fingers through the somewhat-ragged locks.
Kyle’s hair was clean and washed. Yet, the strands felt like those of an old, decrepit dog. Curls dangled in his face as he mouthed your neck, and Kyle sloppily licked the bruises he sucked harshly into your skin. He pulled at your skimpy outfit, tearing rotted, jagged fingernails into the cheap fabric. Exposing your bra-covered breasts, Kyle ripped the front of your dress apart in one, harsh jerk. You wrapped a hand around his wrist, fighting to pull it away before Kyle tore your bra off as well.
“WAIT! Kyle, no! You can’t, honey!! I-It’s cold out here!! And someone might see!!” You insisted, “B-Before we do that, let’s go back home first!”
You were in too deep now, that much was obvious.
He jerked his hand away from your hold, groaning in protest. Kyle brought his massive palm to your chest, curling his fingers into your bra. One complaint I see a lot of about the Wednesday series on Netflix is "The Addams Family was grounded in reality. There was nothing supernatural about them! The Munsters were supernatural." Almost always someone will say "What about thing?" And comes the typical meme / joke response of "Well, they're just that Goth." Okay, outside of the disembodied hand that serves as a friend / pet / sex toy / lover (throw-away line in Addams Family Values about his relationship with Uncle Fester) here are some elements of The Addams Family that are definitely supernatural. 1. Uncle Fester is immune to electric shock, mercury poisoning (he ate an old thermometer) and other things that would kill most people. Not only that but he has his own high electrical charge where he can power a lightbulb with his mouth. This is all from the 1960s Addams Family TV series.

I won't bother to mention the kids surviving improbable scenarios since even in the movies there's usually a cut-away. 2. Grandmama is a practicing witch. In fact the lyrics of the 1960s Addams Family theme song include "So get a witch's shawl on, a broomstick you can crawl on." We're told that at least some members of the family are witches, if not all of them. Morticia's mother was played by Margret Hamilton (The Wicked Witch of the West in The wizard of Oz). Note: Morticia's mother and Grandmama are not the same character. When Grandmama curses Debbie in Addams Family: Values, her curse comes to pass later in the movie.

In The Addams Family Broadway musical there's even a joke line of "My mother? I thought she was your mother!" and Gomez and Morticia just shrug it off. She's theirs and that's all that matters. They just adopted the strange old woman who wants to be called Grandmama. 3. Morticia canonically has psychic powers in the 1960s Addams Family TV show. She has permeations, experiencing omens, and at one point felt it when someone stuck a pin in a map directly over their house. This is from the 1960s Addams Family TV series. This was not something invented for the Wednesday TV series. 4. In The Addams Family 1960s TV series Santa Claus is Canonically proven to be real. He shows up in the Christmas episdoe after each adult Addams dresses as Santa to try to make the kids happy.

Yes, the animated movie made him an escaped mental patient but the 90s Addams Family animated series gave him blue skin and a flat topped head, making him heavily resemble a Frankenstein monster. (Note: The Creature does not actually have a flat head in Mary Shelley's novel. This and the groaning is a movie trope.)

I know he has a mother in the 60s show but other incarnations don't seem to follow this. In the 2019 animated Addams Family movie Lurch seems to have escaped the insane asylum but the haunted insane asylum (which becomes The Addams Family house) had been abandoned for years, possibly decades. Bonus as this one is not confirmed. 20. The Addams' may or may not be immortal. In the 1990 Addams Family movie Gomez is trying to find Uncle Fester who has been missing twenty-five years. The 1990 Addams Family movie was deliberately released twenty-five years after the 1960s Addams Family series of the 1960s ended. There is continuity changes such as making Uncle Fester Gomez's brother instead of Morticia's uncle (pre-marriage) but otherwise the 90s Addams Family movies were meant to directly continue from the 1960s TV series. This means that in twenty-five-years no one aged. Not even the children. "Their Goth game is just that strong."

“Oh my god oh my god, I think this is it!” 
Even though Lisa’s eyes were trained on the stage in front of her, her arms were busy shaking the daylights out of her husband, her hands on his shoulders while he chuckled adoringly at her enthusiasm. They hadn’t been to a concert in a long time; after Lisa was reanimated and recovered, the two of them had gotten as far away from Brookside as they could potentially get, and once the dust settled, they decided to do a little traveling to see what the modern world could offer them. They had no end of potential date ideas, but they both particularly liked live music. 
Though their favorite of all time would always be the private one given in the living room of Lisa’s old home, they both enjoyed being among other music lovers and shouting lyrics like maniacs. Granted, he knew he wouldn’t be doing much shouting tonight in the sea of people they found themselves in-both because he knew he wouldn’t be heard and because shouting just wasn’t in the cards tonight, but it was all worth it for the sake of seeing Lisa so happy. 
Speaking of Lisa, her declaration that the show was starting seemed to be right on the money, since the lights were starting to dim, the anticipatory roar of the crowd was starting to get louder and cell phone flashlights were starting to flick on like illuminated eyes across the arena. The creature divided his attention between Lisa and the stage as the sound of a heart monitor was projected over the screams of the fans, and she grabbed his stitched-on hand in a vice grip when a gurney containing a covered body was rolled onstage. 
Lisa’s cheers joined that of the rest of the crowd when the body revealed itself to be the lead singer, clad in a hospital gown over his signature dark outfit and clutching a microphone. The first song was ironically called “The End”, and as the creature expected, Lisa sang every word at the top of her lungs, teased hair flying in every direction as she bounced along to the beat.
He knew buying her that second hand iPod Nano last year was a good idea. 
The first verse ended with Gerard Way ripping off his hospital gown as the biggest curtain they had ever seen opened to reveal the rest of the band, already whaling away on their respective instruments. They all wore black outfits and parade marshal’s jackets (which seemed fitting), and they weren’t the only ones who had dressed the part. 
Lisa had spent hours trying to pick the perfect combination of tights and tops for this concert (all black, of course), and had finally settled on black fishnet tights that she had torn and woven back together herself with more colorful embroidery thread (sticking heavily to purple and green to match her husband’s stitched limbs), a black tulle miniskirt and a black sports bra under a mesh top, complete with black and dark-gray striped arm warmers, to match the fashion of the time. He himself was wearing a leather jacket over a deep red shirt, and his best ripped jeans that Lisa distressed for him, in more ways than one. They blended in perfectly with the ocean of punks around them, and that was just fine by them. 
The band cycled through their set with infectious energy and an electric stage presence, and the creature was surprised that the stadium they were in didn’t collapse under the weight of the stomping and jumping the audience was doing. He was particularly fascinated by the mosh pit that had formed towards the font; it was mesmerizing to see all of those bodies moving in such a disjointed but synchronized way that anyone could immediately understand was dangerous if not done properly. He had to respect it, honestly. 
The biggest problem with it, on the other hand, was that it was blocking their view of the stage, and by the time the band’s most popular started (signaled by a single note that was almost drowned out by the crowd), the frenzied movements of the people closer to the stage got more intense, as did the noise level. 
Lisa was staining herself on her tiptoes to see over the screaming heads in front of them, and when her husband noticed this, he put a hand on her shoulder gently, shuffling in the limited space that they had so that his back was to her, and squatted down slightly. Lisa got the hint immediately and hopped onto his back, and he hoisted her up so she could see over the several hundred flip phones being used to record the show and get a better view of the stage. She was delighted by this plan, holding onto him with her thighs and one hand while waving her other hand in the air, mirroring Gerard on stage. And even though her voice was meshing with thousands of others, even that of the actual lead singer, the creature thought her voice was the clearest and most beautiful of them all. 
She must have been able to feel his adoring gaze somehow, because as the song ended in a shower of confetti and pyrotechnics, she bent down and kissed his right cheek first, then his left, whispering (or, given the noisy circumstance) said in a normal speaking voice, 
“Thank you. I love you so much.”
And though he was particularly tongue-tied that evening and unable to speak the words back, he hoped that the kiss he gave her amidst the crowd’s raucous applause spoke his feelings adequately. 
They stayed that way as the concert continued, the creature keeping Lisa safe in the arms collapsed around where she was perched on his back and Lisa sneaking little kisses or playing with his hair in between songs, and as the band played one of their slower pieces, the two undead souls swayed together, united in their love of music and each other.

trans allegory in mystic fragrance and forbidden rain
aka: the essay no one asked for
Content warnings for: Discussions of homophobia and transphobia, and brief mentions of suicide.
If you guys have any other comments on this topic (especially KnightsPs, I'm an UNDEADP so I'm less familiar with their lore) please comment or rb or drop an ask or anything! I love talking. It's also been a hot minute (3 or 4 years) since I last took an English class so my analysis is a little rusty.
Part 1: UNDEAD's "Monster" and Queerness
Every UNDEAD song (with one exception) has the same premise — the singers are the impure, immoral monsters who are singing to a pure, human audience. There are two genres of UNDEAD song:
“I’m a monster seducing you into the darkness, give into your desires because I know that secretly you want it too” — Immoral World, Savage Love Affair, etc.
“I’m a monster and I’m so badass” — Darkness 4, Nightless World, etc.

The “monster” in UNDEAD’s music is shorthand for anyone that exists outside of a pure society. By joining the monsters, you become tainted and can't return to society, but that’s the only way you can possibly live as your authentic self. In this way, the "darkness" is a safe space that these monsters have created for themselves.
This is, of course, a reference to Rei and how he feels ostracized from society -- the whole reason why Koga began UNDEAD was as a message to Rei that if Rei felt like a monster, he shouldn't roll over and die, but live with them as an undead. However, the concept of the queer monster is incredibly applicable imo. Historically, lots of villains in horror media were queer-coded as a way of eliciting disgust or a fear response, as a way of making its villain seem strange and, well, queer. (Oh, no! Look at all these horrible people ruining life for the law-abiding families!) The link between queerness and horror has been analyzed to death.
But queer people also love the misunderstood monster who's shunned by "proper" society. The gothic novels that originated the horror genre in the 1800s, like Dracula or the Picture of Dorian Grey, were written by queer authors and/or contained scores of queer themes. Do I need to go into why werewolves, shapeshifters who had to go deep into the woods to hide their wolf form, can be read as queer? Do I need to go into why Frankenstein, someone abandoned by his own creator and shunned by society by the nature of his existence alone (something out of his control), can be read as queer? Do I really need to go into why the modern-day vampire is queer? Vampires? Of course queer people will love these monsters, because they see themselves in the monsters, more so than the victims. (Also, nothing more in line with the queer experience than seeing a monster and going “ngl they're kinda hot actually.”)
In summary: It's very easy to read UNDEAD songs and UNDEAD's conceptualization of the "monster" through a queer lens. The monster is queer, and the monster welcomes you into the darkness and invites you to also give into your desire to live freely.

Sidenote: The one exception to this “monster” theme is of course the elephant in the room, Sustain Memories. I think it plays well into UNDEAD’s image — at least in !-era, Rei, Adonis, and Koga have always been the monsters, while Kaoru is the human that joined them (see: their Halloween costumes in !-era). So Kaoru doesn’t sing of monsters, he sings of a human love. There's also something to be said about Kaoru being the one member of UNDEAD who tried so desperately to appear cishet and experience a "normal" love in !-era. But also, it's a wedding song because the anime boys look cute when they sing about weddings.
Part 2: What about Forbidden Rain?
Here's the thing about UNDEAD's other monster songs -- they're always proud of being monsters. They're not ashamed, and they want the audience to join them in their freedom.

On the other hand, the singer in Forbidden Rain sees themselves as a "beast" who can never be forgiven, someone who's slowly poisoning their pure lover. They love them so much that they apparently have to let go of them, for their own sake. It's the first song that actually contains references to genuine love (usually UNDEAD is just horny).

The song remains sort of ambiguous about the nature of the relationship between the singer and the audience. It's clear that the audience does actually care for the singer, since they do reach out a "gentle hand" that the singer can't take. But the singer says, "Let's end this thing that never even began" -- are they even together in the first place? Maybe it never began because they were scared of the "beast." Or maybe it never truly began because the relationship was built on a lie. They sing about a beast inside them that they have to hide, and says that their current self -- the one they show to the audience -- is a fake. And this is something that cannot be forgiven.
It's not hard to read this in the context of queerness. Maybe it's about a gay singer who doesn't want to reveal their feelings and tarnish a platonic relationship. Or maybe it's a trans singer who's wracked with guilt at keeping their identity under wraps and hasn't come out to their heterosexual lover, so they want to break off things before they come out and taint their previous relationship.
In Love & Beast, the "source material" behind Forbidden Rain, Inogari (Adonis' character) is soft-spoken, protective, and kind. He saves the main police character in the very first scene. He's an ambassador and a respected enough member of society that he's part of the Sakurayama (Rei's character) social club. He uses "watashi," which is even more polite than Adonis' "ore." He literally faints at the sight of blood. He's the picture of innocence and goodness and all that society approves of. But in a Jekyll and Hyde-like twist, he ends up secretly being the killer Beast. In the end, the Beast is finally caught when Inogari realizes the truth and chains himself to a wall so he can be caught by the police in an act of sacrifice.
Inogari is the picture of propriety, but he keeps the Beast repressed, and eventually this Beast destroys him. Even if you try your best to act as part of proper society, you'll never really fit in.

Another note: Forbidden Rain has a lot of the same themes of self-sacrifice, repression, and pure, romantic love that Knights songs do. Knights, in game, is a much more traditional idol unit than UNDEAD is. Forbidden Rain thus attempts to align itself more closely with the socially acceptable Knights, but it's still an UNDEAD song at its core. The monster is inescapable.
Part 3: Mystic Fragrance and Trans Allegory
This thread by @/pretty5P on twitter (https://x.com/pretty5p/status/1625958198623539200?s=46&t=lm_x5Uw5f8pKXHUoLzYksw) is a really cool analysis on the perfume symbolism in the song and how it relates to Arashi's gender identity (go read it!!), but if you don’t want to give Elon Musk ad revenue, the gist of it is this: Odette is her "masculine" initial impression, the impression others have of her, and the impression that fades most quickly. Odile is her lasting "feminine" self and the true self that remains when the top notes fade away.
Over the course of the song, the singer (Odette/Odile) grows more and more tainted, going from a pure white dress to a multicolored rainbow dress to a pitch black dress. The final perfume note is desire, the desire to live as themselves, the desire to be with the person they love.

While the song does focus on a pure romantic love, just like Knight's songs, the symbolism of wanting to be Odile is far more similar to UNDEAD's monster. The idea of a "hidden desire" lying in wait beneath pure feelings is explored in almost every song, as is the symbolism of a dress that gets tainted by desire:

And just like UNDEAD songs, the "tainting" of the pure is never presented as a bad thing. Note the references to the moon in both -- it's only in the dead of night, in a midnight ballroom, that one can "spread their wings" and reveal their true self. The darkness, the space of monsters, is a safe space, and in the light of the truth-seeking moon the singer of Mystic Fragrance says that their audience is beautiful.
In the original Swan Lake ballet, Odette is a beautiful woman who falls in love with Prince Siegfried. She's cursed to transform into a swan in the daytime, a curse that can only be broken if someone who has never sworn their love to anyone swears their love to her (in other words, someone untainted). Unfortunately, the evil sorcerer who cursed her turns his daughter into Odile, the black swan who looks identical to Odette, and Siegfried mistakenly confesses his love to her. Knowing that the curse can never be broken, Odette throws herself into the lake rather than live the rest of her life as a swan, and Siegfried joins her.
Mystic Fragrance isn't tragic, however.
Part 4: Living your truth
The endings of Forbidden Rain and Mystic Fragrance are where they differ. Both of their source endings are tragic — Inogari is unable to control the Beast and shackles himself to a wall, waiting to be arrested. Odette and Siegfried leap into a lake and drown themselves, because the only way they can be together is in death. Forbidden Rain ends with the singer holding their loved one close to them one last time in the rain before they leave.
But Arashi rejects her source material because she chooses to embrace the monster. She becomes Odile. She decides to live her truth, and as the top notes and heart notes fade away, all that lingers is her true self. That's why Mystic Fragrance has a happy ending.
There's a lot of symbolism in the Mystic Fragrance music video with respect to the person who loved Arashi during the war era and who killed themselves. She spreads her arms like the wings of an angel and sings in front of a setpiece that looks like the cenotaph. Her outfit contains anemones, symbols of a lost love and grief (and, coincidentally, the flower that Adonis in greek myth turned into when he died). Her greatest regret was that that person couldn't love themselves the way Arashi now tries to love herself. In this way, Mystic Fragrance is like a message to that person -- live your truth.

The mechanisms were a storytyelling musical cabaret band that ran from 2012-2020, when they released their first album, Once Upon A Time (In Space).

If your looking to start listening, i would recomend listening in release order (OUAT(IS), UDAD, TTBT Vol I, HNOC, TBI, Frankenstein, TTBT Vol II).
If you want an intro to the characters, I would reccomend Revenge Of Spaceport Mahoen, which is a good mixture of origin songs.
I'd also recomend checking out TheVoidSings, who holds this fandom together with blood, sweat, tears, and lyric videos.

meta take: I sort of wish we could have a genuine conversation about the blurry line between wishful thinking/headcanon and more objective (or, aspiring to be objective) historical analysis – I get the headcanons, I really do! but just in the past year, there's been several instances of people in good faith asking about sources or questioning "fan favourite" anecdotes and being shouted down for "ruining people's fun". If you want to engage with this stuff in a more lighthearted way, that's fine! but accept that that's what you're doing. Being rude to people trying to get to the truth is not a good look. this isn't exactly a take but the SADDEST part of Hey Jude is when John harmonizes with Paul. I can't not hear all the unspoken pain.
I kind of hope we get versions of Free As A Bird and Real Love with cleaned up John vocals like Now And Then. I don't want to erase those originals because the audio quality tells a story of its own, but Real Love especially suffers so much from it. I listened to it earlier today and nearly got teary. "No need to be alone" kind of gives me goosebumps. There's something so raw and emotional about all three of these songs…
This is almost the opposite of a hottake, but it kind of Doesn't Matter To Me who Now And Then is about. It could be about Paul, it could pretty easily be about Yoko too, and a few people I've seen say they think it's about May, which could be too! It perhaps not being directed at Paul doesn't take away from the song for me, because the song feels bigger than just its direct inspiration.
On that note, I sort of think that sometimes people could stand to.... Die on fewer hills? Like, the notion that Now And Then could be about Yoko doesn't negate John and Paul's relationship or most things people theorize they may have gotten up to. Now And Then Release Week bonus round, cause it's been long enough to talk about it a bit:
Paul (and Ringo and George! they also have a writing credit, guys!) making editorial choices about John's unfinished song with the blessing of his widow is literally fine. "But John might not have approved–" yes, this is how death works. John also might have found the song embarrassing and not wanted it released at all. It wasn't on Double Fantasy after all! Or maybe he would have specifically wanted to remove the same bit! (which I maintain is musically strange and unfitting at worst and at best a still really rough idea that would probably require a lot of work in of itself – echoing the chord progression in the instrumental bit is the best compromise I could imagine)
I actually really get the George girls who were a bit bummed out by the rollout of the song. He DID get the short end in this situation! but… what would have been better? I saw some people say Paul isn't nearly as good a slide guitarist at George. Okay well then… So Paul should've hired a session musician? How does that makes sense? Paul should've asked Dhani to find some random guitar bit George recorded 25 years ago and frankensteined it onto this song? I'm asking this honestly: what should have been done instead? Because… I sort of got the feeling from some of the criticism that the only acceptable solution was to not release this song at all. And TBH I don't think George "getting the short end" is worse than not allowing Paul and Ringo the closure of completing this song. This wasn't perfect but again: yes, this is how death works.

The things you reblog that are not hate filled, monsters, bands, pirates... You have not fully understood any of them. The deeper meanings in Dracula or Frankenstein. The lyrics found within the music you enjoy (believe me you have clearly missed the mark with Iron Maiden and would you still hold up Fastway if you knew what Dave King was singing about today?) No clue on the history of piracy either, (you would align with privateers if you knew what that meant.) All of these go against your anti-*Fill in the race, sexuality, nationality, political affiliation, etc of your choice* and hate filled things you post or reblog.
So you've changed your blog colors from red to purple, your avi is another picture of yourself, canis lupus & the city where the Castle Rock is found is always a part of your handle, and you may add "odin". And speaking of, you may want to do a bit of reading up on Norse mythology too. You are an easy mark.

Hi Jerrod! I'm a college student taking a music appreciation class, and I have to use the musician I talked about on Day 1 for a project, and that so happened to be you, haha. Is there anyone who has inspired you musically for some of your horror work like Kiss Me/Kill me (which happens to be the song I chose cause honestly? A bop). Thank you so much in advance!
Hmm. Honestly, in cases like that one, I don't really have any conscious inspirations aside from the obvious song itself (as I've mentioned in the past, Kiss Me was mainly inspired by hearing the song on the radio and really listening to the lyrics for the first time and thinking "woah what if she keeps asking to be kissed next to increasingly-creepy things" lol). Started with the lyrics, then once I got the vocals back from Juliëtte I just started with "basic cover of the original song, then just see where I can take it".
The previous work "The Boys are Back (to kill you)" was a much more subdued 'remix', in that many elements were a 1:1 recreation (the backing guitar and bass are remade but mostly adhere to the original) or direct sample (that lead guitar riff) that I built up on in a more subtle way - different drums, lil blips and bloops here and there, but more of a cover than a remix in vibes. Kiss Me starts in a similar way, there's some added synths but it's mostly a close following of the original track with minor embellishments. But as part of the bait-and-switch (in that the listener was intended to assume it's the same situation as the previous one, both in terms of the remix style and the vocals being a sentence-mix), the plan was to just keep winging it in a new direction and see what happens.
Like most of my stuff, the rest kinda formed in this real hazy-to-remember bout of extreme productivity and luck. It's kinda like one of those cartoon fights where you just see a dustcloud and the occasional fist - like I'll zone out (or I guess in) into this very intensely-focused session for hours, and emerge having made a ton of progress thinking "I honestly don't remember how I got here". Sadly can't do it on command (hence my usual low output), but in this case I left everything so last-minute that the stress of the Halloween deadline was really propelling me forward, haha.
Come to think of it, is any of this useful at all? Was the project specifically just about inspirations? If so, kinda sucks that I guess I just went "huh, not really", sorry about that. Obvs not trying to claim my work is immaculate and wholly original and incomparable or whatever (it sure ain't), just that any inspirations for this one were more just my own ingrained inspirations and less conscious ones that I could pinpoint and list, yknow?
A lot of people think Boys are Back was inspired by Neil Cicierega. Which I totally get (on multiple levels, both the sentence-mixed mashup PLUS the "creepy old 90's-style computer UI" stuff are SO his bag), but tbh his work wasn't a direct inspiration in this case, it was mostly another accident. Maybe kind of a "man invents Frankenstein 200 years after Mary Shelley" vibe for sure. Though funnily enough it does take a lil conscious inspiration from one of Neil's works in a less-expected way, in that a distant memory of his track "Super Hey Ya" popped into mind while I was partway through the remix and inspired the lil bouncy chip-arps you hear from 0:50 onward. SHY came to mind on account of being what I guess I'd call an "additive remix", in which he took the whole song and put his own additions on top of it, which was only partially the case for TBaB but it was a bit of a similar process (I specifically remember thinking like "ok so I've got this pretty direct cover of the backing track, I don't want to go full capital-R Remix here but let's add some lil embellishments... oh hey, remember Super Hey Ya?").
Is any of this helpful? Sorry I couldn't really answer the question in a very satisfying way.

I think the past few years, she's been trying to be both a pop star and a sensitive singer-songwriter at the same time. The problem is she's great at lyrics/songwriting structurally, but her artistic vision has stagnated. Lover, Midnights, and TTPD are fun to listen to but still feel sonically amorphous. It's like as she's gotten more powerful, gotten more creative control, her overall output has become more and more bland.
TTPD feels like the most glaring example of this, the songs feel a little more defined than midnights, but our homegirl did not even TRY to connect the music to the film noir/journalism/workplace theme she set up visually or just the actual title of whatever the fuck a "tortured poets department" is supposed to mean. That title is so clunky but I was hoping it would make sense once I heard the album and understood this framing device she'd set up. Except in the music there's no framing device at all 😭 we couldn't have gotten some simple Lauryn Hill style transition tracks to make it all make sense?
It's just very frustrating to me, she keeps missing opportunities and seems to be surrounded by people who don't push her creatively.
the disconnect from the theme is a little baffling and hilarious to me like she kind of just threw offices and typewriters and quills together and called it a day. creative director needed desperately. or at least some dedication. maybe it would be perceived as trite but the Gothic Horror Wild-Woman-Outcast-From-Society thing she hinted at in her MV could've really eaten #idk. especially since its closely linked to the Victorian Era Romanticism (that she loves so much) as both a subgenre and subversion, and could've more easily aligned with the themes of being a woman on trial / isolation and insanity / Frankenstein's monster (WAOLOM) she had going. as well as that fuckass typewriter.
I agree though, many missed opportunities, she's never fully willing to commit to something that is a creative risk unless she can project a direct benefit from it

Interview by Monkey Motherfucker
This is a talk with Wednesday, guitar player - vocalist from the Frankestein Drag Queens from Planet 13, the last band to have been endorsed into the COS…
GD-  Please tell us a brief history about the beginning of this sordid mess called Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13…
WD- We started the band in March 1996. The image was drawn from Alice Cooper, and horror films. Our primary goal was to attack, offend, and destroy anything in our path.
GD- I’d be a mongoloid if I didn’t ask you how much horror movies and imagery have been a strong influence for the band… what are your faves? What do you think about modern film industry?
WD- Horror films are as much as an influence to us as music, probably even more. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 & 2, Dr. Phibes, Phantasm, Dawn Of The Dead, The Shining, are some of my personal favorites. I just always wanted to see a rock band that looked like a horror movie. All the twisted ideas we get are from all of our favorite movies. The transvestite thing comes from Leatherface, I just found it so God damn funny that Leatherface thought he was attractive when he dressed up as a woman. We try to look as unattractive as possible.
GD- I think you remind more of some artists such as Kiss, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister than the usual punk ones… what can you tell me about your influences?
WD- We never claimed to be a punk rock band. Our influences are so out there you get a little bit of everything. I love everything from Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, The Sex Pistols, Jayne County, and Motley Crue to James Brown and Creedence Clearwater Revival. We are just a horror rock and roll band.
GD- Now you have been officially endorsed by the Confederacy of Scum… what does it mean for you? I know you were good friends with the guys in the COS, since you have opened the 1998 Supershow…
WD- I have known Jeff from Antiseen since 1995 and he helped us a lot from the very beginning of the band. We opened the COS show in 1998 and was inducted into the COS in 1999. I think it is great to be in the COS, it’s a group of bands that have said Fuck You to everyone and done things on their own terms. It’s all about attitude, a lot of the bands are different musically, and I think adding us into it added even more of a variety to it.
GD- By the time people will be reading this interview, your new LP will be finally out… can you tell me more about this?
WD- The new record is called “Songs From The Recently Deceased.” It is the darkest thing that we have done so far. It differs a lot from the “Night of…” musically. It has more of a variety of songs on this and all of the songs are horror related this time. It still is very much FDQ13, but it shows we have more than one trick up our skirts.
GD- One of your songs is called “Rambo”; is it true that you were a teenage Rambo-wannabe?
WD- No, I never was a teenage Rambo wannabe. When I was a kid 8 or 9 years old I wanted to be like Rambo. I love the movies and still watch them on a regular basis. I could not possibly at any point in my life look like Rambo, as a kid I was a blonde hair skinny weirdo and now I’m a 6ft tall skinny weirdo.
GD- Your lyrics seem to be taken out from b-movies’ dialogues… what would you tell to people?
WD- Our lyrics come from movies 99% of the time. My life is boring and I choose not to write about it to bore the audience; I have wrote songs from personal experiences in the past, for example “Let’s Go To War” was about a couple people from our past. So from time to time a song will come about from a personal experience.
GD- I know you’re married and you’ve got a daughter; what does your wife think about the band and your drag-dressing? Is it difficult to keep a band and a family going on?
WD- It is tough to do anything and keep a band going strong. My wife helps with a lot of the band stuff so without her help it would be even more difficult. She doesn’t mind the dress and make-up thing at all. My daughter is the greatest thing I have, she keeps me human and sane.
GD- What do you think about drugs?
WD- I don’t do drugs and believe it or not, I never have. I drink occasionally and that’s about it. Some people can handle drugs and some cannot, I just choose to avoid them all together because I am fucked up enough as it is.
GD- You come from North Carolina, where the great band ANTISEEN moved his first steps in punk rock history… how’s the actual musical scene? Have you been influenced from that great band?
WD- There is no scene, unless you are a rap metal trend band. As far as Antiseen being an influence to us musically, no not really. I just admire them for what they are and what they have done. Don’t get me wrong, I love their music and they are a great live band, it’s just Jeff is like a big brother to me, and he helps me out with a lot of things, he is the person I ask for advice. So I would say they are an influence to me as what you can achieve by doing your own thing and not following trends.
GD- What’s the coolest thing about being a Frankenstein Drag Queen?
WD- The coolest thing is that no one recognizes us off stage. We can walk around all night after a show out of costume and hear everyone talk about us and hear what they really think. It’s a whole Jekyll/Hyde thing for us, we become these creatures when we hit the stage and we become human when we’re done.
GD- You released a 7” in Germany and recently a German label re-released your second album… are you interested in European music business and scene? Do you know some band comin’ outta the Old Continent? 
WD- I would love to tour Europe, and it is looking possible later next year with Antiseen. I don’t know much of the scene in Europe.
GD- You recorded with Jamie Hoover a lot of stuff… is it a case or you wanted to have him on the mixer? I know he made a hell of a great work with the latest ANTISEEN albums…
WD- Jamie Hoover is a great guy. He has done all of our recordings so far and he has a great studio and is a lot of fun to work with. Jeff Clayton turned us on to him.
GD- How’s people reaction at your show? Do they like three glammy-punk “chicks” on the stage?
WD- The reaction is different all the time. Some places that we play just don’t get it at all, they leave in disgust. Other places we play they love it and don’t want us to stop. I think we are providing people with a little bit of the best bands ever. You can see a little Alice, Kiss, Twisted Sister and the Plasmatics in our show, but it’s not so much that it’s a ripoff. It is definitely on its own and when we are compared to those bands it is a huge compliment. We are just carrying on the tradition.
GD- What’s your fave position doin’ sex?
WD- On my head.
GD- Tell me something about the Planet 13 and the number 13 in general…
WD- Well, Planet 13 is a world that we created with our own standards and rules. The number 13 has been used throughout history as a bad luck number, that’s why we chose Planet 13 instead of Planet 14 or 15. I guess the main reason we use the number 13 is because the Munsters lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The coolest family ever, you can’t go wrong with that.
GD- Are you big in the USA? Can you tour with the band or is it difficult?
WD- We are known in parts of the USA, but definitely not big by any means. We can tour, but it is very difficult and not profitable. 
GD- Are there some weird gig stories about the Drag Queens? Tell me almost one…
WD- One time we had a chicken on stage and we had it in a bird cage suspended by a rope. Seaweed and I would kick it back and forth at each other while we played through the set. Feathers and shit were flying about the stage and it caught the eye of an animal rights activist. The person later threatened us after the show with all kind of legal shit. We just told him to go cry to the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant down the street. We were well on our way to more trouble.
GD- Future plans?
WD- To keep playing live and making records, conquer the earth and fight Godzilla in our first motion picture.
GD- Ok, that’s all by now, tell what do you want to our readers…
WD- I want to tell your readers, go to school, read the Bible, brush your teeth and comb your hair. Because we are coming and you will wish you had listened to what I said.

They're a Vocaloid song producer who primarily uses vflower, with all their songs featuring their own takes on creatures from different folklore and cultural traditions, with the instrumentals in the songs every time changing to match.
Their most recent song at the time of this post is even Halloween themed!

Every song of theirs seem to have the reoccurring theme of a sour or corrupted love, which actually isn't strictly romantic as implicated by the lyrics in their song Frankenstein Girl!!!
They're another one of those blank song title producers, but PLEASE for the love of God if you're interested their songs are perfect music to blast this October. I'm begging you on Death fr. Soul Eater OC Tip #2: Use a punny name
Using a punny name will make an OC fit well into the Soul Eater universe because there are hardly any characters in Soul Eater who don’t have a punny name. A punny name does not mean it is limited to including puns or wordplay. The names of Soul Eater characters will often have a name that references to Greek mythology, weaponry, animals, monsters, music artists, or even famous criminals.
The following is a list of canon characters and their name origins.

Maka Albarn
“Maka” is a wordplay of the Japanese word, kama, which means scythe. It is popularly known that Albarn is a reference to Damon Albarn, the creators of Gorillaz, an English virtual band formed in 1998. This is the most popular guess due to the creator of Soul Eater, Atsushi Ohkubu, being well known to be a big fan of pop music.

Black Star
The name may be a reference to the color and shape of a shuriken, a throwing weapon popularly associated with ninjas. It may also be a reference to the Radiohead song, Black Star. The lyrics to the song also mention a “falling sky,” while Black Star makes the pun about a falling star in his debut episode.

Death the Kid
Other than the fact that is the “son” of Lord Death, a Grim Reaper, or death god, Death the Kid’s name references the famous outlaw, Billy the Kid(1859-1881). Billy the Kid was active in the American Old West. He killed eight people before being shot and killed when he was 21. Death the Kid’s name referring to an infamous figure of the Old West may also be connected with his double pistol slinging. Many Western films depicted cowboys or criminals wielding two guns for dramatic effect.

Liz and Patty Thompson
Thompson is a reference to the Thompson Submachine Gun M1921, or more popularly known as the “Tommy Gun.”

Franken Stein
The name is a reference to the 1818 novel written by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein. The book depicts a scientist named Victor Frankenstein who discovers the secret of life and creates his own creature, or Frankenstein’s monster. On one hand, Stein’s occupation as a scientist and his ability to make Sid into a zombie is a reference to Frankenstein. On the other hand, Stein’s appearance with the screw in his head and stitches on his skin reference to Frankenstein’s monster.

Medusa Gorgon
In Greek mythology, Medusa is one of the three Gorgons, often described as winged women with snakes for hair. Out of the three Gorgon sisters in Soul Eater, Medusa is the most faithful to the Gorgon reference because of her snake theme. Arachne is a reference to the story in Greek mythology about a weaver who was turned into a hideous creature we now call spiders. Shaula is the Arabic name of the second brightest object in the constellation Scorpius.

Ox Ford
The name is a reference to Oxford University in England.

Harvar D. Éclair
The name comes from Harvard University in the United States. The last name, Éclair, comes from the French word for lightning.

Jacqueline O’Lantern Dupré
The name is a reference to Jack-O-Lanterns, as Jacqueline’s weapon form is a lantern with holes in the shape of a scary face. Jacqueline du Pré(1945-1987) was a British cellist.
As seen from the examples above, many Soul Eater characters have punny names with references to various popular figures and objects. Keeping these examples in mind will be useful when naming a Soul Eater OC!

deeply and forever obsessed and enamored with how fall out boy discuss fame and accessibility with so much hyper-awareness of what they are, what their status renders them in the eyes of the public. in the accessibility of the early days when pete would do livejournal blogs and q&as and on the very opening lines of cork tree the album that made them big like really big and how the desire to create intersects with the deeply potent anxiety centered around your self-worth as someone who lives with a mental illness and creates in spite of that (the immense psychological damage i endure when i think of the line I only keep myself this sick in the head 'cause I know how the words get you off because that is ioh’s thesis statement, because ioh is an album named after a van gogh quote be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. then life seems almost enchanted after all. and we hear that constant and deeply flawed rhetoric of if van gogh wasn’t so depressed we never would have gotten starry night, overlooking the point that van gogh was a creator not because of his neuroses but in spite of them. because that line that the album title comes from is a quote from a letter from van gogh to his brother, discussing how his improving mental health has had a deeply positive effect on his art.)
porcelain. my frankenstein. songs about hero worship and what it means to have an idol that doesnt live up to expectations. the agonizing pressure to always try and live up to that but being so afraid that you won’t. you don’t want to hurt people but it’s inevitable that you will. you will. alpha dog. the music or the misery. she’s my winona. the take over the break’s over. from now on we are enemies. the wrong side of paradise. the knowledge that on some level something of what you are will never be enough for people because you changed but did they even really like you anyway? or did they just like the things that afflicted you? citizens for our betterment. welcome to the new administration. we are a spectacle. we are to be witnessed and consumed and speculated upon. our personhood is secondary, is negligible.
and then sunshine riptide. sunshine riptide and more specifically, the way it combined with the mania experience. please don’t tap the glass. i read it in reverse. we’re the things on display. pete wentz in a glass cage, to be studied and watched. turning himself into a commodity. only. only he’s not that exactly, is he? he’s not just something to be observed because he isn’t acknowledging anyone else. he is aware of his status in the eyes of the public. he is aware like a razor’s edge what it means to be who he is - a mentally ill black man whose art is always under scrutiny, whose art is a culmination of all that he is, who must always be exceptional and beyond reproach if he is ever to achieve a positive comparison to his white peers, and the intersections of all that he is have always been present in his art and in his lyricism and in how he interprets things. please don’t tap the glass. he is what’s on display. he understands what it is to be commodified.
but he dis-acknowledges everything else around him, the people gathered nearby. he is coloring pictures. he is listening to music. he is comfortable in his own space in spite of the many strangers’ eyes on him. please don’t tap the glass. i can never explain what this does to me, this mental image of pete in a glass box. fundamentally absurd but also with this absolute knowledge of who and what he is in the public eye, and reclaiming that under his own power. he is a spectacle. he is an artist. but first he’s a person, isn’t he? he doesn’t exist for our consumption. he never has. but he continues to allow us these discrete windows into himself regardless, despite all this might invite. despite the speculation, the scrutiny, the infamy, the contempt, and everything that comes along with it.
