I'm kind of mad the charr didnt get the whole body horror, frostbitten, half skeleton-half man thing when they were all icebrooded like the Svanir. The base game Svanir models are scary as hell and they even gave us a new one with the Fraenir in the raven sanctum, but all the charr look like theyve got a cold overlay on them, including Ryland, and I think they shouldve all looked like fucked up monstrosities.

I rambled in tags about it earlier but like what if Braham had been allowed to become the actual Norn of prophecy the game's been telling us about since lws3?
What if we had gotten a full story of the Vowbreaker reclaiming his prophecy, starting with a deeper beginning? Braham's surname actually changing in game to Vowbreaker when he finds what's left of Destiny's Edge 2 turned to Jormag. And those characters having a more impactful/longer part in the story. Ghosts of the past coming to haunt Braham.
What if one of those guild members had been in the Fraenir's place, instead of a stranger?
After watching the Commander and Jhavi struggle and work to take charge of the situation/save people, Braham finally returning to Hoelbrak (possibly for the first time since he chipped the fang?) and rallying the Norn for the final stand. Making a redemption for himself, now that he's older and understands the burden of leadership. Even if it's scary, being expected to save the day and slay the dragon.
And the Commander gets to stand by his side and remind he's not alone. Cause the one person in the world who *definitely* understands what this is like is the Commander.
The people get to see the Champion of the Norn and the Hope of Tyria standing side by side to face down an Elder Dragon.
Jormag and Ryland fall together. A chance to go home, for the Norn. A chance to change for the better, for the Charr.

Spirit of Eagle:  So, the Pact Commander comes before me to shoulder my idol. But are you willing to prove yourself worthy?
Commander:  You are, at least, the twenty-eighth all-powerful entity to ask me that question. So yes. Willing and ready.

19, 21, 22, 23, and 26 for glyn on that oc ask post! :>
YAAAY thank u for the ask!!! let's see
19. Hobbies
besides jeweling, glyn is really really into art conservation and restoration!! with a specific focus on orrian sculpture and architecture. (in the current bit of lws4 i'm on where u hit the disturbances in jahai bluffs he was five million times more excited about seeing the vizier's tower as it originally existed than about any of the absolutely batshit temporal stuff going on.) he spends a lot of time in siren's landing pursuing this specific interest!
21. Fave food(s) and drink(s)
unfortunately glyn's debilitating untreated adhd has him by the leafy balls and food is something he views as an inconvenient nuisance (when he thinks about it at all). okay potentially niche reference but you know how in devilman crybaby, ryo like, exists on a diet of those little high-calorie gel packs for marathon runners. if those existed in tyria glyn would be doing that. he has gotten better at it over time!! but especially if he's deeply embroiled in a project someone has to like, check on him every now and then and cram some nourishment down his throat otherwise he will just straight up forget.
he does appreciate a good drink tho and he keeps a little cask of black lion reserve in his office!
22. Fave Color
he would insist he doesn't have one and that aesthetic considerations like this are a frivolity but. everything in his life (and especially all the weaponry he makes) is some combination of black, gold, and mahogany.
23. Fave Genre
i do not think glyn has ever consumed any genre fiction (besides probably angrily hate-reading commander of your heart and then pretending he didn't) but!!!!!! trahearne's appreciation of orrian poetry has probably rubbed off on him, and poetry is a medium with enough like... aesthetic distance that he can think of interpreting a poem as some kind of puzzle instead of having to wrangle with the investment and subjectivity of reading and enjoying narrative fiction. god typing all this out makes me realize someone has to grab this guy and dunk him in some fun
26. Guilty Pleasure

Black Lion Keys 2: Probability Boogaloo
We've been here before but now I am doing all the living stories and expansion, not including SoTO cause it's not done yet <3 (also redid some things I thought were off about my original)
The wiki says there's a 30% chance of getting a key for maps but from my own searching of other peoples experiences, it seems closer to 25%, so i've gone with that for the sake of ease!
So what are the chances of you getting a black lion key from every map from the expansions? And what's the chance of getting a key from every single possible map? Let's explore, shall we?
First note, no season 1! There's only Southsun Cove added with that and you can't get a key from it! Sorry Scarlet :( Second note, any errors about jumping puzzles are because I was checking the list on the wiki! Sorry if any were missed!
Tumblr media
LWS2: Glint's Prophecy
While there are 8 story parts there were only 2 maps added, there's not a huge amount to go over here. There are 8 waypoints, 0 renown hearts, 40 points of interest, 11 hero points, 13 vistas, and 2 jumping puzzles! You've got a 6.25% chance of getting keys from both maps! Which is by far the highest out of everything I'm about to go over.
Tumblr media
Heart Of Thorns
The first expansion to Guild Wars 2, I remember pre-ordering this! Introducing raids, the revenant, and elite specialisations! There are 4 maps that make up the HoT part of The Heart Of Maguuma, containing 32 waypoints, 0 renown hearts, 92 points of interest, 40 hero points, 25 vistas, and 5 jumping puzzles! You have a 0.390625% chance of getting a key from every map!
Tumblr media
LWS3: Glint's Legacy
This has 6 story parts and a new map for each one! Bloodstone Fen is a map used for key farming, as it has no renown hearts and very few things to get for map completion. The 6 maps contain 17 waypoints, 24 renown hearts, 98 points of interest, 0 hero points, 33 vistas, and 3 jumping puzzles! You have a 0.02441406% chance of getting a key from every map!
Tumblr media
Path of Fire
The second expansion, bringing in mounts and more elite specs! It also brought in 3 new raid wings! There are 5 maps and radically fewer waypoints comparatively, with only 23! There are 27 renown hearts, 166 points of interest, 29 hero points, 51 vistas, and 0 jumping puzzles! You have a 0.09765625% chance of getting a key from every map!
Tumblr media
LWS4: Rise of Kralkatorrik
A lot of people cite this living story as their favourite part of gw2 story! It brought in 2 new mounts, the roller beetle and the skyscale! There are 6 maps here, containing 19 waypoints, 19 renown hearts, 158 points of interest, 0 hero points, 36 vistas, and 1 jumping puzzle! You have a 0.02441406% chance of getting a key from every map!
Tumblr media
LWS5: Icebrood Saga
A living story I never actually finished and still giggle at the shortening of its name. It brought in 3 very large maps! These maps contain 7 waypoints, 0 renown hearts, 97 points of interest, 0 hero points, 34 vistas, and 1 jumping puzzle. You have a 1.5625% chance of getting a key for every map!
Tumblr media
End Of Dragons
The third expansion that brought an end to a decade long storyline! Introducing jadebots, skiffs, the siege turtle and yet more elite specs! This expansion brought in 5 maps, including the later added Gyala Delve! These contain 24 waypoints, 9 renown hearts, a staggering 196 points of interest, 30 hero points, 23 vistas, and 2 jumping puzzles! You have a 0.09765625% chance of getting a key for every map!
Conclusion
It's nigh on impossible to get keys for every map but it is very fun to think about! Getting a key from every map from every living story and expansion is a 2.1684039x10^-17% chance! In non standard form this is 0.000000000000000021684039% That's absolutely tiny!
But for every single map you could possible get a key on? How tiny would that be?
It would be a 1.92592916x10^-32% chance.
Written out of standard of form that number looks like this.
0.0000000000000000000000000000000192592916%
I cannot even think of what to compare this to. A single amu (atomic mass unit) or dalton is 1.66x10^-24 grams. This probablity is even tinier than that.
It's unlikely that this will ever happen but what an incredible occurence it would be if it ever did. An act of pure and absolute luck.
If you read this far, thank you for reading my ramblings <3 And I wish you all luck getting black lion keys.

I will say while i am intrigued by the recent expansion and willing to see it through to the end-
(probably because i dont have an attatchment to a commander character. Like me and velak have a commander and characters attatched but im super flexible with it since he doesn’t really play anymore and eod feels like the true end to it all. I use the main story as a like… marker for events in the world since theres a lot of places that one can explore thats more enriching interesting and personal. I can still use the wizard tower as a plot point for some things but im still seeing the commander being an anomaly who wasnt supposed to happen in a living fractal and its why the wizards didnt do anything this whole time untill something was actually directly attacking them. )
-i am disappointed by a lot and part of it is the way they are doing the releases especially when the expansion is full priced and unfinished when released
It really feels like a cop out and a excuse and im more interested in arenanets unannounced project ive been tracking for a while. “A well funded mmo established fantasy rpg with a focus on story” running on a unreal engine and with linux support and also talking about “guild wars 2 and beyond”in their hiring. Im hoping its a guild wars 3 but this expansion DEEPLY feels like how it felt just before EOD during LWS5 where resources were being cut from one place to be placed in another. Like its one fractured expansion per year until…when? The unannounced game that started production 2022/23 is released? I just hope they figure out a way to keep the game running for people if they move on to a gw3 but gw2 is n entirely different beast from gw1.

so i see you tweet sometimes about gw2 and im just curious about your thoughts on it like, plot wise.
i think the story of early guild wars is pretty par for the course mmo storytelling where im paying mostly superficial attention to the plot and mainly enjoying how fun the game is. but around the time you get to heart of thorns they start introducing enough interesting concepts that you decide its worth paying slightly more attention to.
there was a huge problem in the way guild wars 2's narrative flowed because of the way they handled the living world stuff. i love the living world in concept when it was unreplayable because its just neat to me to be able to take such large story beats in an mmo. where you literally nuke your entire main city and change its appearance. but i appreciate the fact they decided to retroactively let you play that stuff in the end! however making it, in the case of living world season 2, optional to buy, but then not also doing lws1 in the same way? it just meant that you got the story non completely and non sequentially. if you just go straight to core from HoT you have to do soooo much Inferring Shit About This Plot from it. It's like your character blacked out and lost several years of their life. 'hello? commander? its us. the guys who are totally already your best friends'
anyway once i got through HoT then i found myself going back to lws2 specifically to unlock the luminescent armor and the respective ascended trinkets since back pre-lws3 the only stat selectable ascended trinkets were from raids, i believe. and then once again it was really interesting to get the map meta-events recontexualized to me from going through the story. and then after that i was invested enough in these characters to go watch the howeverlong supercut lws1 movie someone had on youtube for anyone who hadnt been there to play through it.
all this to say i think there was a lot of interesting story stuff here that would have helped hook more people earlier on if it had been freely available to play in its intended order. anyway
hot: i feel like it benefitted a TON from playing through this on a sylvari pc the first time because the custom dialogue they give that taints it like all of the npcs are suspicious you are going to fucking turn evil. like the sort of 'youre the coolest strongest character in the world!' stuff never really does it for me. i'm way more into 'youre a very powerful person in an extremely fraught and complex political situation' and HoT really felt a lot more like that, with i think it doing a good job of setting the mood for being In An Active Warzone. i like dragons stand meta a lot in terms of things where gameplay really makes the story hit in a certain way. the challenging, large-scale metas make a better multiplayer use of a high fantasy war shining than a lot of them do. getting events that genuinely do take several dozen real human beings coordinating in real time to accomplish makes there be a sense of difficulty and scale that would be rather punishing and frustrating as instanced single player combat.
i know i kind of talked more a bout the combat than the story. oops. but to me the sort of positive feedback loop between getting more invested in playing the actual game and then getting more invested in learning about the characters to continue to future expansions.
I wish I could speak more about lws3 and PoF but i will be real with you right now. those years of my life are kind of a blur and i do not remember a lot of the story beats right now. lws4 felt pretty weak to me in a lot of ways, pretty disparate from itself. PoF though i had a hell of a fun time with. joko was a fun villain he was serving necromantic cunt.
lws4 was ok. definitely more cohesive overall and had some cool stuff. lws5 i think on the other hand really suffered from a bit of covid slump in its content which i will absolutely not blame them for. I would much rather they put out slightly subpar content during a massive health crisis than they overwork people.
CANTHA, ON THE OTHER HAND. WAS EXCELLENT. DEFINITELY THEIR BEST STORY WRITING YET. i had a blast of a time with it and i was specifically fond of what they did with mai trin, a character i was well acquainted with via getting my ass kicked in her fractal back when she was scale 100. they gave her some INSANE dyke drama. it was catnip to me. she fucked that asura they had toxic yuri i knowww they did. kelly hu did her voice for EoD, who i immediately clocked as stacy from phineas and ferb and was as such predisposed to be endeared to her. also who doesnt love an ex supervillain pirate captain. mai trin you will always be famous.
anyway. that is my extnesive opinion on the plot of guild wars 2. great game everyone play it i have over 3000 hours in guild wars 2.

Actually something small I wish the saga had expanded on was the fact that Marjory and Jhavi learned necromancy together???
Like what do you mean anet you can't just say that. How did a human, from Divinity's Reach who joined the Ministry's Guard, and a norn, who joined the Vigil, end up with the same necromancy teacher?
It doesn't sound impossible or anything but it sounds just implausible enough to warrant a story conversation about it between the two. Tell me about your time together. Jhavi *please* tell me an embarrassing story about Marjory omg

actually what was the point of introducing Ryland's warband. They made these characters, gave them way too much backstory, and then killed them in the episode after their introduction? and they're introduced in the Worst strike mission that takes too goddamn long and No One wants to do it. Good luck if youre trying to finish one of their achievements when you have to do it, at minimum, twice to complete ONE of them.
and at the end of it, it doesn't actually tell us anything about Ryland. Nothing we didn't already know, that he's well-liked and a relatively good leader. All of the character went into his 'bandmates lmao like they're legitimately enjoyable characters and the whole thing just made him feel that much more boring.
like sorry Ryland is probably the worst villain they've ever introduced because he's just infuriating and extremely boring like there's nothing there. The best part of the season is when he's not involved. Even his death is bad because they completely gloss over how Crecia would be feeling about this and instead focus on Rytlock who's never known the guy.
anyways did they just need content? some hard boss fights for the Drizzlewood meta? and then they don't even make it past the bridge lol so are they even that good? Steel Warband is the best in Blood Legion, huh? Blood's not doin so hot if this is their best warband.
