I had the thought of Tom or Billy sniffing their new babies and I thought of you for some reason.

no bc billy loves the new baby smell. like from the minute you bring your baby girl home (he’s a girl dad, first and foremost, fight me. maybe he’ll have a son later on, but his first kid? a girl, the girliest of girls.) and she stops smelling like hospital (probably after her first bath… which was somehow both a chaotic scene and a warm, wholesome bonding moment for the three of you), he’s got his nose to her dome like all the time, just breathing in the newborn baby smell mixed with the lavender nighttime baby shampoo you two had cleaned her fluffy, downy hair with. at first, billy tries to be discreet about it, because he thinks it’s weird. however, when he catches you sniffing her too one night as you rock her to sleep, he realizes that maybe he’s not so weird after all… or maybe you two are just equally weird… but, billy thinks, if he’s weird in the same ways that you’re weird, then that truly wouldn’t be so bad after all because at least your brand of weird isn’t off-putting (in his opinion… you disagree on the grounds that 1) you don’t think his brand of weird is off-putting because you don’t think anything about him is off-putting and 2) you think you can be at least a little off-putting sometimes).

as for tom, i hc tom (at least the version of him from my older!tom au) as not ever having kids (simply because he doesn’t want to have them), but you can bet that anytime he meets one of his newborn nieces or nephews (he has quite a few siblings… which means he also quite a few nieces and nephews) for the first time, he’s always quick to cuddle up to them, cradling them gently in his arms (now that’s been through this whole thing a dozen or so times, he’s a pro at holding newborns), and luxuriating in their soft skin and sweet newborn baby scent.

Idk if it’s a personal thing or not, but lately i’ve grown picky-er with lgbtq rep?

Like I remember being a teenanger and FREAKING OUT at the slightest hint of queerness. Just a mention of the creator in an interview, a hint that two characters “might” be a couple…

God, I was letting myself be queerbaited over and over again. I still remember reading my first openly queer book about two girls falling in love and crying over seeing my feelings reflected in an ACTUAL FISICAL book. It was prof that gay people did exist outside of the little bubble that was the internet. And it was awful rep, like both girls die in the end, it was highly sexualised (they were teens) and their relationship was toxic… and still I ate it up.

Not because it was good, but because it was something. And I do hope that none of the young people who are just now figuring out their sexuality have to experience that feeling. But for those of us who have been here for a while we know what it feels to gasp at ANYTHING in hopes of seeing yourself reflected in media.

So now that I have experienced EXCELLENT queer media like Heartstopper, Cerulean Sea, Our Flag Means Death or The Owl House. I find it SOOOO hard to go back to that kind of media I used to eat up when I was younger.

Younger me would have flipped her shit out just by being able to read a book with an openly queer relationship… but present me can only stare at it’s pages and think: *I deserve to read something better, bc I know that something better that this CAN exist and DOES exist*

I’m gonna vent in the tags but I promise I’m chill

#sometimes after working for 12 hours straight I want to cry but my antidepressants make it really hard to so I just get a migraine #is it bad I feel bad for feeling bad #like if I could afford to not pay a bill I would be hospitalized right now for sure #but i just don’t have the luxury #I have vacation coming up… our mandatory overtime is almost done but even the vacation doesn’t seem worth it #how do you keep going when all you do is sleep and work and sleep and work and sleep and work #it feels like hell #but this was my reward for growing up #I don’t want to make my friends feel bad for me #I don’t want to disappoint my family anymore #but it’s not like feeling this way will kill me so that’s how I justify letting myself say any of this at all #oh if I say it then it won’t stay inside me #but it’s like a broken faucet there’s just so much #just shut up about it if you’re not gonna quit your job or emit yourself or die #just be happy you get to keep trying and that this isn’t forever #wait for the meds to kick in and go to bed and tommorrow you’ll wake up with a lighter chest #and maybe just maybe the you 5 years from now will be grateful #and then I’m happy. #saying these things somehow just cheer me up #I’m not upset that I’m alive I’m upset that I have bills and. a stupid job with hellish hours and I’m too scared to do something wrong #to move the wrong way and start a landslide that makes things worse again #but I’ll be fine because I’m always fine #and this bad situation will end because it always ends #thank you for letting me be born

#I just have strong feelings about linen #Not that I'm any good at taking car eof it #Aesthetically though? *Chef's kiss* #Linen chests are a magnificent thing #Also white laundry on a line on a summer's day is very much a Mood #And I love those old washhouses you get behind Victorian houses in Scotland #Probably they were not so great when they were being used but dear god the Belfast sinks #I have been obsessed with Belfast sinks since primary school- my school was built in the 20s and had these huge sinks #The epitome of solidity and reassurance #Also used to love those Victorian irons they showed us in school with the heated bit that you slide out #And have you ever been in a luxury hotel? Who gives a shit about the food the beautiful bed and the fluffy towels are where it's at #Also Jeeves is in here somewhere ironing collars #Not to mention the folkloric importance of the Bean-nighe #I mean I realise of course that older laundries were frequently not the healthiest places to work #Even modern laundry can fuck up your hands #That being said there is a whole history around washing spaces- from the way that women used to gather in mediaeval villages #around wells and streams and that's how they passed news on; to the cultural icons that were the Glasgow steamies of the twentieth century #And imagine what it must have been like to see the huge drying green on Glasgow green or the bleaching grounds near other towns #On the one hand it's rather sad that places like the drying green of Dunblane are no longer used though still public space #But on the other hand think how much modern technology has freed us from the a lot of the hard labout #BUT still leaving us the ability to learn more about and take care of our garments and by all people not just housewives #Machine washing is also a godsend if people are ill and have to spend a lot of time in bed or if you have kids or pets #On the other hand taking the time to properly take care of your clothes and bedding feels like such a peak act of self-care #I only wish I had the skills to be better at it #This post brought to you by my frustration with my tiny washing machine #You can barely fit a double bed set in it #But at least I have a linen kist #And am absurdly proud of it like some sixteenth century gudewife #Laundrycore #The latest silly aesthetic to dangerously over-romanticise
