THREAT LEVEL: ★★★★☆ | Arguably incredibly dangerous given their association with mass deaths throughout history, but most chaos is on a smaller scale. Non-wardens unlikely to identify the cause of said strife.

HABITAT: At home in populated areas with many people – they enjoy large crowds.

DESCRIPTION: Lutins are small and mischievous fae who have a particular enjoyment of hysteria and paranoia, taking their love of chaos to the next level. Rather than merely inciting some trouble around town or a group of people, they’re not satisfied until things really get out of hand. Many examples of mass hysteria throughout history had lutins behind it, even if just to an extent. Dancing Plague of 1518? Lutins. Salem Witch Trials? Lutins. Well, partially. Some also enjoy tormenting people by always sitting at the edges of their vision and feeding off their paranoia and fear. While the effects of nearby lutins are often felt, they’re rarely seen. About 6 inches tall, pale pink or white, and winged, they’re small and easy to overlook. Lutins and faun are natural friends and tend to (metaphorically) feed off each other’s enthusiasm, combining efforts to expand their chaos. 

ABILITIES: The mere presence of a lutin can foment a group of people into turning on each other. With accusations flying and suspicions all over the place, things quickly spiral into mass hysteria for most involved. The scale and seriousness of the hysteria can vary considerably – it doesn’t much matter to the lutin whether human lives are lost, or whether everyone just feels the need to dance themselves to exhaustion. That’s fae entertainment either way. Lutins are able to make themselves inconspicuous; they’re overlooked unless someone is specifically looking for one. They may also change their appearance with glamours to cause further confusion and fear. Physically, they are small and fast, making them difficult to smush or capture. They have human-like intelligence and language capabilities.

WEAKNESS: Once the lutin’s presence is gone, most people will start second-guessing what they’re doing, and the hysteria will stop. However, things are often said in the midst of hysteria that have lasting repercussions, and cannot be taken back. Fae are not affected by their mass hysteria fomentation, nor are wardens. Lutins are, of course, vulnerable to iron. Those wearing iron charms will have partial immunity to the lutin’s unique style of chaos.
