So cool to see Takashi Yamazaki and the team behind Godzilla Minus One up on stage collecting their Oscar last night. The film is *incredible*, and it stands as my favourite film of last year. I was introduced to Yamazaki's work with Lupin III: The First, as I'm sure many of us were - this is so cool to see.

[ID: Two GIFs from Lupin III: The First (2019). Lupin tips his hat. Zenigata tips his own hat in response, with some kind of enamored expression on his face. End ID.]

You Should See Me in a Crown... ( Daisuke Jigen Final Cos-test )
People kept finding my earlier costest pics, so here’s a couple of the updated/final test shots of my Daisuke Jigen (this time with full beard, hah). Should’ve posted them a long while ago, but better late than never, right?
The Castle of Cagliostro crown is a bonus prop I made for myself because... Come on. Jigen deserves it no matter what era he’s in.

In Lupin III: The First, Lupin said that he would see Laetitia again in 5 years. That movie came out in 2019... so I better be seeing a Lupin III: The Second coming out in 2024.

Geomon Ishikawa would make a good sub because he is SO repressed it'd be so easy to make him break and have him whimpering

if i had a nickel for each time lupin & friends teamed up with zenigata and a random damsel-type woman to take down an absurdly bad group of literal cartoon villains, i would have three nickels and i have only seen three lupin iii movies.

lupin iii: the first looks better than any american produced 3d animated film bc its actually animated and not just mo-capped to hell and back (in fact not at all) or striving to look realistic (and in doing so, looks realistic and organic to the world it has created).
godzilla in godzilla minus one is so effective and look so good despite the budget/limitations because the director is actually someone involved with, and good at, directing animation (the same director for the film mentioned above) , who understands how to make that look good
putting aside the (valuable and not untrue) critiques of the film industry, especially in japan, its almost like things will be good if you actually put the right people on the job who understand what the fuck theyre doing and what theyre working with
