So regarding my “what counts as a vegetable” question, I decided to read what parameters researchers were using.
This one study asking rural populations how much fruit and veg they eat specifically and intentionally said “not counting” not just potatoes but also carrots?!?
Like man I know carrots are a little higher in carb than other veggies, but dude they are 100000% a vegetable. Why call out CARROTS of all things, especially when most people will think of like, peas and carrots as quintessential vegetables, easily found frozen and canned?
I do not like this methodology. I can see the argument for potato (even tho as I already said, potatoes have tons of vitamins and minerals in them), but I can’t see the argument for carrot unless they just wanted to show that wow rural people don’t eat vegetables! Like it’s an artificial way to raise the % of people who report eating fewer than 5 serv fruit + veg.

So calling selfishness when someone says they don't want to have kids always bothered me and like the more I think about it the stupider it gets like. If I say 'Idk I don't want to have kids because I want to prioritize my own goals and ambitions and a child doesn't fit into those' and someone responds with 'well that's a very selfish way of thinking' like...AGAINST WHO?
If we say selfish we mean someone is only focused on themselves and disregarding others but in this case...who are the others? The child? The child who doesn't exist? The child who isn't even being planned for, who is strictly in the 'don't want' zone? Why should a nonexistent child have ANY precedence over my own (existing right now in this moment) wishes and my own life? A possible partner? Idk about you but I'd like to think me and my partner (assuming a wild reality where I want a partner) would be equals, so wishes of one wouldn't be more important than wishes of other. And if we disagreed on something so big and crucial as having children then I'd like to think we would be mature enough to end that relationship. So it can't be that.
Or is it just society, just social expectations of child bearing and raising being a must do on the check list of life? Is this who my selfishness would be hurting, this who I'm up against? Well I honestly see no wrong being committed there.

Hey y’all what do you do when your two best friends start dating each other and decide to tell you on Christmas morning when you’ve already been feeling incredibly isolated for months and you have to pretend to be super happy for them and not utterly crushed thinking they’re going to definitely forget you now more than they already have been

im going crazy with how people are starting to agree with snow that sejanus was really stupid and deserved what was coming to him. reading the books first should be a pre requisite to the movie idcccc if that takes away the wider audience, the wider audience all have smooth brains anyway.
“why was he colluding with rebels when he could’ve just thought about it pragmatically 🙄” i’m in your fucking walls. sejanus was never dumb, snow just kept pushing that perception of him through the book to deflect the fact that sejanus was an actual good person. snow thought himself the personification of good and benevolence, which was why everything he did had to have some half-assed excuse as to why he was justified in doing it. it was why he was actually tweaking in the woods when lucy gray left him, because he wanted to rid himself of her but he didn’t have an actual reason so he convinced himself of the most random scenario ever to justify trying to shoot at her. so we can establish that snow was an evil broke boy who clearly wasn’t good— then sejanus was a direct confrontation of snow’s own shortcomings towards that (i don’t think i have to detail how sejanus was genuine, it was obvious). coriolanus and sejanus are like the direct opposite characters of each other, and snow knew and took pride in this to an extent. which is why snow couldn’t admit that sejanus was good to himself, thus sejanus was deemed ‘stupid’ to protect his own deluded self actualisation (but this also includes other aspects like how the war made the plinths rich and the snows poor, leading to resentment and jealousy from snow).
“but that still didn’t mean he wasn’t doing dumb things throughout the book” was it really that dumb? a rebellion will always include some level of risk but i don’t hear anyone calling heavensbee stupid because it actually worked out for him. plus sejanus is district, so if we use our common sense of who he is as a character and emotional intelligence of his situation, it’s pretty easy to see why he would get in touch with rebels. he’s literally always yearned for the districts, he never once cared about his money or safety, which isn’t stupid, it’s sad. this was his way of dealing with the guilt of profiting from his people’s suffering— again, not stupid. you could argue he was reckless, especially when he went into the arena, but most people who simply cast him as a ‘dumb character’ ignore how troubled he is and fall into the very filtered lens of snow who was just concentrating on his stupidity.
sejanus’ growing radical actions had nothing to do with stupidity and everything to do with feeling helpless and like nothing was changing. he tried minor/low-risk things such as attempting to change the perception of the districts in the capitol, advocating against the hunger games etc etc. of course it didn’t work, so his options grew limited to more radical courses of action. its a natural line of thought— activists literally do it in real life when they feel as if their cause isn’t getting enough attention (eg. setting themselves on fire). sejanus is a desperate character who is so selfless in light of snow’s constant self-preservation. snow will always put himself first and be paranoid that he will be betrayed like he’s betrayed others, so he never understands sejanus’ disposition to help and trust people, so he labels him dumb. omg. like. sejanus is so not-stupid i’m actually gonna start freaking out!! this is defamatory leave my boo alone!! plz go read a book and work on media literacy i am begging!!!

Then, too, Lucy, although she is so well, has lately taken to her old habit of walking in her sleep. Her mother has spoken to me about it, and we have decided that I am to lock the door of our room every night. Mrs. Westenra has got an idea that sleep-walkers always go out on roofs of houses and along the edges of cliffs and then get suddenly wakened and fall over with a despairing cry that echoes all over the place. Poor dear, she is naturally anxious about Lucy, and she tells me that her husband, Lucy's father, had the same habit; that he would get up in the night and dress himself and go out, if he were not stopped. Lucy is to be married in the autumn, and she is already planning out her dresses and how her house is to be arranged. I sympathise with her, for I do the same, only Jonathan and I will start in life in a very simple way, and shall have to try to make both ends meet. Mr. Holmwood—he is the Hon. Arthur Holmwood, only son of Lord Godalming—is coming up here very shortly—as soon as he can leave town, for his father is not very well, and I think dear Lucy is counting the moments till he comes. She wants to take him up to the seat on the churchyard cliff and show him the beauty of Whitby. I daresay it is the waiting which disturbs her; she will be all right when he arrives.
Lucy has inherited sleepwalking from her late father. She has sleepwalked before now, it is an old habit of hers. Dracula is nowhere near the coast of Whitby nor does he know who the fuck Lucy is.
THE SLEEPWALKING IS NOT CAUSED BY FUCKING DRACULA.
Stop, that's literally the excuse used by shitty adaptation writers who shorten the story down for the sake of convenience. And you may ask them, well, why is Dracula trying to make Lucy, a young lady he doesn't even know, sleepwalk to him from so far away, adaptation writers? THE ANSWER THEY ALWAYS GIVE IS "well, she's a slut, he can sense that she's a slut, he's trying to get at her to punish her for her transgressions and get to his pure reincarnated wife uwu."
IN THE BOOK SHE IS LITERALLY JUST A SLEEPWALKER IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DRACULA RIGHT NOW.
Do you think that when she sleepwalked years ago as a child that was also Dracula??? Was her father sleepwalking to Dracula as well?? She is stressed about the future and her restlessness has caused her to start sleepwalking again. She dreams of showing Arthur the view from the churchyard, so she tries to go there in her sleep.
Please I swear to god when you lean into the whole "Dracula has a vendetta against Lucy and has made her a sleepwalker in order to hunt her down and punish her", it's victim-blaming and doesn't even make sense in the context of the novel.
sorry if this comes off aggressive, but I'm just like grrr I'm like rrr no fuck you Coppola get off my dick.

I think what always gets me about the scene where the double agent guy gets murdered is that while Lockwood is freaking out as anybody would Lucy is completely calm and clear headed and focused on getting out of there and I realized it's cause this isn't the first time she's had to watch people die she had to sit by while listening to all of her friends die in the first episode knowing she could have tried harder to keep them from going in so to her she knows that's what she needs to focus on and seeing how lockwood reacted I think just made her know more she had to stay calm for him since he was having to deal with that guilt of thinking his decisions caused this that scene breaks my heart so bad in so many ways

I find it so funny when people get mad or offended when someone refers to Starfield as “Fallout in Space” or “No Man’s Skyrim” or my favorite “Skyrim if Mass Effect sneezed on it”
those descriptions just make me more excited to play the game

I was browsing tags today and I saw this. I don’t want to give this user a platform so I’m not reblogging.
As a future doctor who happens to be fat now after several years of “atypical” anorexia- yes ducking anorexia- I want to say this to all fat people:
You. Deserve. Compassionate. Care.
Hard stop.
It’s very true that there is a substantial weight bias in medicine. Studies that “link” fatness with poor heath are often not great in their methodology. Studies with better methodologies show a stronger health link not with weight but with *generalized healthy habits.* Like moving your body. Getting appropriate nutrition. Yet what is the rhetoric? Fat = unhealthy.
A physician will spend 4 years in medical school. Two of these are spent in clinical clerkships- you learn directly with another clinician teaching you. Before you can practice on your own, you do a residency for 3-4+ years. This training is also done in clinic- with an attending physician and residents further on in the program teaching you. 5-6+ years of learning are direct learning from older/longer practicing physicians. Physicians who are likely to hold a lot of their own biases and treatment preferences that may not even be rooted in deep research and are just preferences from what they *think* has worked best in the practice- or what was marketed to them from drug reps. Learners pick up on this. Physicians from one residency program may LOVE PPIs for acid reflux (like omeprazole/Prilosec); physicians from another one may prefer to prescribe an H2 antagonist like famotidine/Pepcid. Yes, learners should read more and read about the actual research- but few have time, and of the time they have, they typically are spent reading about something “interesting” or relatively new, not something that they’ve held as a truth since grade school health class. Especially not something that challenges tat view and causes cognitive dissonance. So the information they get is passed down primarily from their mentors. Weight stigma is *learned* and *reinforced* in these programs, not because it’s empirically accurate but because it’s a prevalent practice nobody questions that has been shoved down our throats for so long.
Let’s not even get into how little nutrition education docs get. I took a sports nutrition course in graduate school. I got more nutrition education in that one class than my sister, a current doctor, got in her med school. I also read more primary research articles about health and fatness than she ever did. At the end of her clerkships she was in a rotation where an actual hospital dietitian had set a higher caloric diet for a fat patient who was inpatient, and my sister was ranting about how “they would be fine to lose some weight on a 1200 calorie diet” like she knew MORE about nutrition because she was almost a doctor than a PRACTICING DIETITIAN EMPLOYED BY THE HOSPITAL FOR THIS EXACT SCENARIO.
My point is that weight bias and myths are pervasive in our culture and medical education doesn’t really do… anything… to try to adjust that. This results in delayed diagnosis of non-weight related diseases, worse outcome, and ultimately poorer health. Yes, fat can contribute to some conditions, and it can be part of the conversation in those settings. But so often weight gets blamed and things like CANCER are missed due to weight bias.
Let me say it again for people in the back:
WEIGHT BIAS ITSELF CONTRIBUTES SUBSTANTIALLY TO POOR HEALTH OUTCOMES IN FAT PEOPLE.
All fat people deserve compassionate care. Their symptoms deserve to be believed. Please do not stop wanting to seek medical care. Please keep speaking out if you can. Please keep advocating for yourself. Please keep advocating for change.

Ok so I feel like I didn't express myself well enough on Gojo being immature bit here's what I actually meant by that
I'm not the biggest fan of people calling Gojo immature or childish because when they do it it sorta implies that this is like, one of his core identity traits, like as a person. You know, like he's sorta completely emotionally and socially underdeveloped (and i have a whole thing about under socialized Gojo headcanons but that's another thing). It implies the sort of stability to this facet of his personality that just isnt there.
He isn't immature, he's annoying on purpose.
Like, he very much is able to flip the switch and act like a fuckin adult if he feels like it and he very much does on purpose choose to be annoying most of the time. This is for multiple of reasons, some have pointed out that sometimes he does this to ensure the students have some form of levity in their lives (Ex. Switching up the second sister school event to baseball, a team sport, instead of leaving it as solo fights because the kids just experienced a lot of goddamn trauma and needed some down time that wouldn't involve violence against each other) but he also v much does it just to be annoying too (Ex. Every scene with Gakuganji including the baseball one, that one was really a double hitter for him).
Like, usually I wouldn't be bothered with fandom reading a character as immature or childish nearly this much, its usually not a big deal and I know most people (hopefully) don't see it as like a stable character trait, but fanon Gojo is so damn annoying as a bad character read, from the god complex to him being a bad teacher to him being a complete stupid idiot, that it just ends up bugging me.
Anyway Gojo being annoying is a feature not a bug, he's annoying on purpose n not cuz he's unable to be mature.

Okay but you know what could really destroy Snow?
Seeing Lucy Gray slowly starting to fall out of love with him. Lucy Gray knowing him so well she starts to be repulsed by him. The pain and disdain and the masks she has to wear (expecially if they are in the Capitol and she depends on him) in order to survive... With him because she has no other option. Lucy Gray, who put trust above everything, slowly starting to lie to his face, to hyde the fear and the pain behind fake smiles to make him happy with her.
And he will see this. He will see because, as always, as they are connected by the stars, as they are both performers, he can read her as she can read him. He can see her pulling back from their love story.
So. He may think that he want her to be caged, because so he can feel safe. But in reality he can not. In reality, he needs her to choose him. Everyday. They have to be a team. They have to be alone against the world (even if that means they have to perform to find a place in that world). He has to know, to feel sure, to feel warm about the fact that his Lucy Gray wanted him and wanted to be with him in the same way he wanted to be with her.
He has to be sure they truly love each others.
Or he is going to be insane. After all, he already did. One trace of doubt - he lost it. He lost it so bad.
But betrayal in a so giant way is a thing; a thing that set him in a rage, that make him spiraling without control and do despicable things in a matter or seconds.
Slowly see your only love slowly fade away? This is another type of pain who can drive one mad in a more subtle way, because he still had hope he can just fix things and surerly he will do it. Just a little time. Just a little patiente. He will do it. But in reality she fade. More and more far away. And panic arise, day by day.
So yeah, Coriolanus Snow was a boy in love, and as a boy in love (the first time I must add) wanted to cage her loved one, to control her. It's normal to feel this way when you love someone, because you want the other one to love you the same. But it's a passing thought, not a real one, because physical possesion doesn't mean owning someone's feelings, and he knew this. Deep down he knew. And he wants Lucy Gray's love above everything else.
Seeing her simply perform their love story to him will be too much.
