Montresor is the Bad Ending of White Raven II: Electric Bogaloo
(I had posted this as a reblog of the other one, but then I realized it gets completely lost, so I made it a separate post).
So I came back to this thought after the last few chapters where we saw several new interactions between Annabel and Montresor. So why not retrace my steps and add some new information?
I mean, yeah, yeah, Girlboss and all that. We already know that Annabel is a show woman, so turning this back into some sort of show as a demonstration of power is very much in line, but...why?
I think I have a theory, but let's take it one part at a time.
I think what these chapters have told me is that Annabel is much more aware of her similarities to Montresor than I expected.
Without going any further, he comments on it:
Tumblr media
And can we stop at Annabel's reaction when he does?
Tumblr media
Montresor made the wrong move, and here's the result: about to become an orb, under someone else's thumb, helpless and flailing desperately to hold on to what dignity he has left. This is what awaits her if she takes one wrong step.
And as if all of this wasn't uncomfortable enough for Annabel to contemplate, there is one last thing in this situation that, I can't help but think, terrifies her the most.
There are winners and losers in this game. Those who succeed and those who fail.
Montresor has definitely lost this game, at least for now.
And this was Lenore's face when she saw Montresor for what he really is: a pathetic, frightened charlatan with no tools other than the manipulation of his allies. And again, a loser.
Tumblr media
I can see why Annabel would do this whole show as a way to exert power. Because she is all of those things...except the last one.
Presenting herself as a winner is, from Annabel's point of view, the only thing that keeps her from being Montresor's equal in Lenore's eyes.
A desperate pantomime that tries to draw a line.
"I'm not like him. I'm on the winning side, I can get through this, I'm not afraid. Please don't throw me away, let me prove to you that I can be useful, let me do this for you."

When I first heard they were going to make an adaptation of The Sandman comics, part of me really wanted Tom Ellis (and Lesley-Ann Brandt) reprise their roles from the Lucifer TV show, but at the same time, I'm so glad they didn't, because there's no way that Tom could have portrayed that quiet menace that Gwendoline Christie did with her portrayal of the character.

To pull a star wars: to publish a continuation of an existing story that establishes certain "game changing" things about said story, only to reverse them in the next installment.
"man Lucifer pulled a real star wars in season 6 didn't they?“

Laundry
He always thought she’d seemed so innocent. She’d always deftly avoided Asmo’s advances and kept mostly to herself when his brothers were being rowdier. She had a shy smile and a soft voice when she spoke, but not now. Now she seems like a completely different person.
Characters: MC!Delphi and Lucifer
Warnings: mildly suggestive, that's all I got, if you're like me then there's some secondhand embarrassment to be had
Word Count: 965 (Whoo!)
It only takes Delphi a couple of weeks in the House of Lamentation to learn that the best time to do her laundry is at 2AM. Most everyone is in bed, everyone is in their respective rooms, and she’s free to move about as she pleases. She takes her headphones and her laptop so that she can work on homework if she needs to, and usually stays until around 4, or until her laundry is done, whichever comes first. She enjoys it. Spending the nights alone, listening to music and working on whatever she needs to. It’s some much needed alone time in a house with seven other occupants.
Its 3:30AM when Lucifer finally puts his pen down for the evening. He’s been at his desk for entirely too long for a Friday night and it’s beyond time to go to bed. Except that he can’t. He still hasn’t done laundry. He sighs to himself. Best to just get it over with.
He approaches the laundry room and pauses. Beyond the open door he can hear someone singing. Not just someone, though. Delphi. He can’t tell exactly what it is she’s singing though. It isn’t familiar to him, and the curse on the laundry room muffles most of the sound coming from inside the room.
He opens the door and his eyes widen.
The exchange student is in front of the dryer in what looks to be one of Mammon’s shirts and a pair of black lace underwear, hips gyrating to a beat that only she can hear. He watches her for a moment, leaning in the doorframe. This is a side of herself she hasn’t shown before, at least not to him. And then she starts singing again, and his face goes impossibly red.
“’Cause I may be bad but I’m perfectly good at it / sex in the air, I don’t care I love the smell of it / sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me,” she sings at the top of her lungs. Not badly by any means. She’s actually quite good, he thinks, but the words themselves catch him off guard.
She continues singing and dancing, completely oblivious to his presence as he continues to watch her. He always thought she’d seemed so innocent. She’d always deftly avoided Asmo’s advances and kept mostly to herself when his brothers were being rowdier. She had a shy smile and a soft voice when she spoke, but not now. Now she seems like a completely different person.
Delphi finishes her song, laughing at her own ridiculousness. She opens the dryer and begins taking her clothes out, piling them haphazardly into her small basket. She pulls out her earbuds, draping them over her shoulder before picking up her basket and straightening.
“’Chains and whips’, hm?”
“Oh my- Fuck, Lucifer!” Delphi yelps, dropping her basket and spilling clothes everywhere. Clutching her chest and leaning back against the dryer she gasps, “You scared the shit out of me!”
The eldest chuckles, “You have a mouth on you after all, don’t you?”
“How long were you standing there?” she asks, kneeling down to pick up her fallen laundry. Her heart is still racing and her hands are shaking, but she does manage to pick her clothes up.
“Long enough,” Lucifer replies, finally bringing his own laundry in. An amused smile still plays at the corners of his mouth, and Delphi feels herself flushing, her face heating up.
She’s suddenly very aware that she has no pants on. And that there aren’t any in her basket that she can put on. And that the underwear she has on are extremely see-through. She’s never doing her laundry this late again. She’ll just suffer through having to sit with Mammon or Satan or whoever while she does it.
She gathers her things on top of her clothes while Lucifer loads his own into the washer. Maybe if she's quick enough, she can get out of this situation without any further embarrassment. She scurries off toward the door, but stops, wincing, when Lucifer clears his throat.
“You have a lovely voice, by the way,” he says, leaning back against the machine, his arms folded over his chest. Before she can thank him, he continues, “Do you often sing about bondage down here at three in the morning?”
Delphi nearly chokes.
“I-I wouldn’t say often,” she sputters, her face and neck heating even more. She doesn’t miss the wolfish grin that passes the demon's elegant features. He’s teasing her. And he’s thoroughly enjoying it.
She’s had her fair share of close calls with the eldest of the brothers. He’s tried to kill her twice now, and only just barely missed the second time. But she’s also had a few…tender? (Is that what you'd call them?) Tender moments with him as well. Before he tried to kill her the second time, she felt like they’d actually been making some progress toward some sort of relationship. But this…This is something she hasn’t seen before.
“Not often?” Lucifer hums, shamelessly raking his eyes over her form.
Delphi feels her skin heat everywhere his gaze lingers, Asmo’s pact mark thrumming steadily on her inner thigh. She hopes the Avatar of Lust is asleep and can’t feel her arousal right now. She doesn’t need twenty questions about this later. Though for Asmo she'd dish.
“Hah, no, not often,” she stammers, backing toward the laundry room door, her basket held like a shield in front of her. “I just had some laundry that couldn’t wait. But that’s done now! So I’m just gonna go to bed! Night, Lucifer!”
She quickly makes her escape, scurrying down the hall toward the stairs as Lucifer chuckles. Their human exchange student was too easy to tease.

Hey so what's with the Tom Ellis Lucifer fans being all salty about Gwendoline Christie playing Lucifer and going into people's asks to insult them?
Like calm down ya'll I get you love him but his Lucifer isn't very accurate to the comics. It's two very different portrayals and his wouldn't have fit in The Sandman.

Me seeing art for a show I both hate and thoroughly love to roast: Someone worked really hard on this as an act of love, and I will not reblog their work just to trash the show in their tags. The artist can see the tags. I will not do it. I won't. They're not hurting anyone. I am not going to-- I'm not. I'm not, I'm not going to do it, I am genuinely not going to I'm not--not even if I want to because GODS I want to but I won't I'll just make a separate post about it or something, it's not like everything I love is so perfect anyway, and I sure wouldn't appreciate it, goodness knows so I'm not going to do it EVEN THOUGH MERLIN IS
A STUPID SHOW AND THE PEOPLE WHO MADE IT
SHOULD FEEL BAD!!!!
(The people who like it don't have to feel bad. Both because it is genuinely a moral neutral, and also, well, they've already sat through all of BBC Merlin - they've suffered enough!)
#original#merlin#bbc merlin#listen listen listen i have a destiel sideblog i get it#being in the fandom doesn't mean you think the canon is well written! and if you DO think Merlin or Supernatural are well-written...#you are entitled to that opinion and there's nothing morally wrong with having an incorrect opinion!#XD i am hilarious#merlin as a show just makes me really mad as a person who desperately wanted so much from it when i watched it and instead it was....#well to be frank it is a wildly homophobic show but also it is 6 seasons of blue balls just in terms of satisfying writing#it has so much of what i love in a show and yet it always felt so... flat. and the fact that merlin keeps his magic secret past season 1#was fucking WILD#it's not like Lucifer where they are locked into the very limiting formula of a cop show#it was A BIG FUCK-OFF FANTASY WORLD WITH A SHITLOAD OF EXISTING MYTHOLOGY#it is Unthinkable to me that they ran out of ideas that quickly!!!#the show centers around two main characters who literally never connect with each other as a result!!!! for six seasons!!!#I mean to be fair Lucifer absolutely only had one idea also and as soon as Chloe finds out he's the devil in like season 4 or whatever#the show immediately reveals that it had ABSOLUTELY no pay-off to that slowburn WHATSOEVER#oh do we get to see the scene where she finds out? just the first five seconds of it before the show introduces a random third character#who is somehow convincing Chloe to lie to Luci so that we can pad the runtime instead of writing an evolution of their relationship#because that would be HARD and what is EASY is IGNORING the only interesting path forward#like YES Merlin did say 'gay people should have defended hitler with their lives' bc again. WILDLY homophobic show#but character-wise it is also like if Aang stayed in the South Pole airbending and being chased by Zuko for 6 seasons#and then he fucking died at the end for no reason.#does he ever learn the other elements? well it's talked about a lot. every episode in fact. but no not until the end of the last episode#right before he dies and then it shows that katara has grown old alone.#anyway i get mad when i see merlin fan art and it isn't fair to the queer artists or fans who make it so i do just make a separate post#and also the Merlin episode of the podcast 'Bait' is SO funny. it is a podcast about queerbaiting.#i hate queerbaiting at this point but it is a good podcast and so funny!!

For those keeping score here are all the TV shows based on the work of Neil Gaiman from the last ten years. Lucifer - Loosely based on the version of Lucifer who quits ruling Hell and opens a piano bar, from The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. Originally aired on Fox and then moved to Netflix for seasons 4 through 6. Neil Gaiman also got to play God in a bonus episode for season 3. The full series can be watched on Netflix. And is available on DVD. The plot deals with Lucifer, the ruler of Hell, up and quitting and moving to Earth where he opens a night club called Lux and takes up playing piano. In the TV series he befriends (and eventually falls in love with) a woman homicide detective named Chloe Decker.
Tumblr media
_______________________ American Gods - Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. Aired on Starz. The plot deals with a man called Shadow Moon who gets dragged into the strange world of Old and New Gods vying for power.
Tumblr media
________________ Anansi Boys - Originally written by Neil Gaiman as a spin-off of American Gods, the TV series version was filmed for Amazon Prime and is currently in post-production (Not yet released.) The plot deals with the sons of Anansi, the African trickster Spider-God.
Tumblr media
__________________ Good Omens - Showrun by Neil Gaiman and based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Also Neil Gaiman has a small cameo in the first season. Available now on Amazon Prime. Seasons 1 and 2 are complete. Season 3 has not yet started filming and will very likely be the final season. Season 1 is currently available on DVD. The plot deals with two "differently competent" entities, an Angel and a Demon, who have come to love life on Earth and each other. And now must work together to prevent the apocalypse.
Tumblr media
______________________________ The Sandman - First episode was co-written by Neil Gaiman, based on the stories and original characters created by Neil Gaiman with a few borrowed DC comics characters. Currently on Netflix. Season 2 is in production now. Neil Gaiman also voiced a ghostly bird in the bonus episode segment Dream of a Thousand Cats. Season 1 will be available on DVD and Blu Ray at the end of this month. The plot deals with Morpheus, the King of Dreams, who accidentally gets summoned and captured by occultists who had been trying to capture The Grim Reaper. After over a hundred and six years in captivity Morpheus finally escapes and has to track down his tools which had been taken from him when he was captured. He also comes to realize he had made many terrible mistakes in the past and struggles to set those wrongs right.
Tumblr media
_________________________________________ The Dead Boy Detectives - First official spin-off of The Sandman. The Dead Boy Detectives were originally planned as an HBO Max series (now just Max) but moved to Netflix after the success of the first season of The Sandman. Based on characters who first appeared in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman: Season of Mists, Neil Gaiman is involved in the production. The plot is a pair of ghost teenagers decide to become detectives and are really bad at it. These two characters made a previous appearance in Doom Patrol on Max (Formerly HBO Max) but had been played by different actors.

Trying to overanalyze Lucifer's design
The Hazbin Hotel season 1 finale was fucking insane. I loved everything and especially Lucifer, whom I am dedicating this post to.
Let's begin with his "normal" form
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucifer wears a ringleader costume bc Hell is one giant circus and he's the ringleader, but did you know that there's actually more to it?
A ringmaster, -mistress or -leader is like the opening act of a circus. They show you around, introduce the other acts and keep you hooked. They are essentially the glue that keeps the circus together. Another definition of a ringmaster, -mistress or -leader talks about an actual leader who leads a group of people, mostly through the act of doing illicit or unlawful activities. A role that would suit Lilith better than Lucifer. Sins could be seen as unlawful activities in Heaven's eyes and Lucifer is the cause of how evil found its way to earth, one could say that he was the one to lead the sinners in their sinful behavior in life. Yet, in death - if we go by Charlie's storybook - Lilith was the one leading the sinners to rise up against Heaven, another illicit activity that has led to their eventual doom.
Tumblr media
Luci also wears a top hat with his crown on top of it. The hat gives him some extra height so I doubt that he wears it for any other reason. His crown is mostly covered with a snake and a red apple on the side. The snake can have 2 meanings: 1) how the word 'seraphim' in Hebrew can be translated to 'fiery serpent', due to his six wings, Lucifer is likely a seraph. 2) he was the serpent that tempted Eve, although never confirmed in any religious text, this idea of him being that snake is really popular in every reiteration of that story. This would also be why there's an apple motive following the Morningstars. Now let's move on to...
Angelic/demonic form
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think what we are seeing here is his full angelic/demonic form, but considering that the other Princes' forms aren't as scary either it is likely the case. The first thing that caught my attention were the horns and overall resemblance this form has to Charlie's, but let's focus on the differences.
In the first image, the snake and apple have turned into some sort of halo, a nod that his actual halo has disappeared when he fell and unlike Vaggie his wings probably didn't get ripped off, but I do believe they were different to how they were when he was behind the Pearly Gates. He has a tail and horns, classic demon imagery, there are 6 eyes at the end of his coat and there's one more on his bowtie, which makes a total of 8 eyes on Lucifer's design. The eyes are a common returning motive in Heaven and with angels.Luci also has a flame in-between his horns. This honestly reminded me of Baphomet, but they would likely be a Candle head from the Sloth ring. In the Bible, fire is often depicted as the presence of God, but I'm a firm believer that Hazbin has a deistic God view (see my other post), so I doubt that's the case here. The fire was likely chosen because Hell is associated with fire and he's the king of Hell so they thought it would make sense.
Like father, like daughter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As stated before, Lucifer and Charlie share a lot of similar elements. She's essentially him without wings and with longer hair. They both have a red sclera with a yellow iris. Their tail is pitch black with a heart cut out at the end and despite having white skin, Lucifer's arms are greyish. I always thought they were gloves, but no, man's face doesn't match his hands. I really like this shot of them right here, they look so badass!
Charlie also seems to be getting a new ability which has to do with her arm getting bigger and blocking Adam. This might be a callback to whatever was going on with her arm in her first design.
That was it thanks for reading <3

Okay I have finally thought of an ask! Not sure if you remember me or not but that's okay. It kinda has to do with the summoning through pacts. I was wondering if you could write something along the lines of an MC who is usually calm, but a MC having a panic attack or is just scared and accidentally summons a brother? I'd like to request all of the brothers or even the dateables but I don't want to ask that much. Do whoever you want with this ask if you do it at all! ❤️❤️
Hi I totally remember you and never forgot this but got way too in my own head about it. I think I crawled back out now. Thanks for being patient with me. ♥ So first of all, I love the concept of accidentally summoning someone to you. Sure, the actual summoning spell is great, but the idea of panic-summoning and maybe not even fully intentionally? Amazing. I started writing how they'd comfort you but got too in my head trying to do everyone (and not feel like i was rehashing Burnout), so I have a few that are spawning future updates to Burnout (for the new side characters), and then some one-offs I'll share as I finish them as well. But! Here are some thoughts I had on alternative summonings when upset.
Characters: Everyone! :) and a GN!MC (reader) Rating: G Word Count: ~2.3k Tagging: references to MC struggling mentally/emotionally, some fluffy affection, mostly a think piece on unintended summoning. Spoiler warnings for OG game, most notably for end of season 2, a bit of season 3, and vaguely part of season 4. Nothing too big, but there nonetheless.
Tumblr media
Lucifer's Ring of Light is a perfect fidget piece. Spinning it around your finger, rubbing your thumb along the band, pressing on the edges of the stones to let the dull pinch ground you. It's always there on your finger, always present, always twinkling in the corner of your eye as a reminder you aren't alone. It is not his any longer, but that doesn't mean he isn't still aware of it, that a little piece of him isn't still present in a little piece of its inherent magic. And when you're spinning it and digging it into your palm and distressed, he feels an echo of that pain. It pulls him to you. Perhaps, in your own way, you're admitting you need his presence, his strength, his help, and he is not about to start abandoning his loved ones now.
With Mammon's keychain of that chocolate lizard, your thumb knew all the grooves, the smooth spots and the rough ones, the little spot where paint was chipped away that you knew you shouldn't pick at but it just happened anyway, your nail catching on the rough edge. You fidget with it when anxious because you know Mammon used to fidget with it just the same, and isn't that comforting, to know that even a powerful ancient fallen angel would run his thumb along the very same ridges you do? It's almost like you can still feel the warmth of his touch there. And you can't really think your First Man ain't gonna know you as well as he knows himself, can you? That he doesn't know when you need him, when you're tuggin' on the pact like that?
Leviathan's script he gave you? You've memorized it by now. In times when everything is spiraling, you remember your favorite lines, the ones that remind you to stay strong. You recite them to yourself between shaking breaths. Because when you can't be strong and cool and calm yourself, sometimes it helps to put yourselves in the shoes of Henry, the shoes of the Romantic Lead, the shoes of the characters written to always have a happy ending. It is, you realize, the same way Levi puts himself in the shoes of the Lord of Shadows, wrapping the cool-clever-badass-strong cloak around him as an armor. There's no Lord of Shadows without his Henry, and there's no you without him. And just like how in book six, the Lord of Shadows gets accidentally bound to Henry with a spell and is able to feel when Henry's in need and the Lord of Shadows leaves his lair without knowing where he's really going just knowing that he's needed and he ends up following this magical instinctive pull to find Henry and get to him just in time to save him from his enemies who were-- ...well, let's just say that Levi won't leave you to fight your mind alone for long.
Satan wasn't wrong that cats are perfect for calming the emotional storm inside you. They're good little listeners, and their company is a great distraction from the voices in your head. Watching the little fuzzballs roll around, or nap in a sunbeam, or prowl through the grass, it distracts you from all the frustration and anxiety and worries. Whether it's watching neighborhood cats, or visiting a cafe, or popping into a shelter, you've taken to Satan's favorite hack for handling your wayward emotions. On the really bad days, it's nice to know you can vent and cry to them and they won't judge you or tell anyone your secrets. But did you forget, MC, the stories about cats that traverse the realms? They won't ever tell anyone, but they might wander from you to their favorite place in the Devildom and they might headbutt a certain blond demon's shin and chirp for him to follow them. They are, after all, very good listeners. And so is he.
With Asmodeus, you look at the photos of him on your phone, at your selfies together and how big you smiled beside him. You blink away burning tears to focus on how he looks not at the camera but at you, his body angled not to show his best side (which is every side of course) but to press always closer to you, and how no matter where you two were or what was happening your smiles were always so bright and genuine with him. When everything feels like too much and not worth it and you feel trapped and cornered by situations beyond your control, you find yourself clutching your phone and swiping through hundreds of pictures of laughter and kisses and hugs and twirls and snuggles and you whisper a promise that one day, soon, we'll be together again. Sooner than you expect, of course, because did you really think that he wouldn't feel your burning need for him across realms, hon?
Beelzebub just has to be comfort food, our precious glutton. When life without your demons is getting you down, it's the salty snacks, the sweet treats, the tubs of ice cream with the chunks of something extra to dig for like buried treasure. And whenever you indulge, you can't help but think of your gentle giant and what he'd have to say about everything. He'd be happy you're eating, of course, and then what would he think of your human world snacks? Which makes you think of your favorite Devildom snacks, and that just hits you with a fresh wave of homesickness. But somewhere out there, a realm away, one particular Avatar just gets this feeling, you know? Like the way he knows when Belphie is craving quetzalcoatl brains, or is napping in the garden. Just that instinct. And his instinct is telling him you need your favorite cupcakes. Surely Lucifer will understand how vital it is he takes these three dozen cupcakes to the human world right now. And if he doesn't, well, that argument with his brother can wait until after your craving is satisfied.
Belphegor of course is our star-gazing boy, and while you like the idea of looking into the sky to seek out any possible shared stars to look at with him, you can't always see the stars at night everywhere, and the human realm has day and night cycles that hide them for at least half the day anyhow. For Belphie, you have a pillow from him (that he either gifted or didn't complain about your stealing) that you keep with you -- not for sleeping, but for comfort. A pillow to smother your tears on the rough nights, a pillow to pummel on your frustrated days. A pillow you curl around and snuggle for a memory of contact now distant. And when you drift off in those fitful sleeps of exhaustion, you wander in your dreams to another dream unknowingly. He's with you when you rest, and the moment he can get away from Lucifer's watchful gaze, he'll be there to tug the pillow out of your arms to crawl into your embrace himself.
With Diavolo, well, he knows things. Usually it's because of Barbatos, or Lucifer, or his familiars, but you? MC, you're so much more precious than the 'usual'. If asked by anyone who doesn't know him well enough to call him out, he'd say the charm he placed on you was simply for matters of Devildom security-- after all, you know possibly too much, and that could make you a target to the wrong people! (Barbatos politely does not point out that it's because he misses you so much and wants to see what you're doing.) It's not that he wants to intrude on your life or anything, it's important you have the chance to be as wonderfully human as you are, but he just worries. Are you alright? Are you comfortable? You'd mentioned once the extravagance of the brothers' lifestyle, do you have enough income? The charm is just a minor thing, a little thing, just to make sure you're well. And when you aren't? Well, paperwork and meetings will wait.
With Barbatos, he's just such a badass god-like time lord, we don't even need a pact to be connected to him. You had brought up the idea of a pact once, and he had just given you that dangerous smirk and demurred that it wasn't so much a pact you desired, surely, as his company and his attention, both of which were already yours. It seemed like such a smooth line at the time, but you didn't realize the extent of it. How you're a bright twinkling point on every timeline for him, how you are the center of every universe he knows, how he orients himself in any reality by looking to you. So when something is wrong, when you're falling apart or in danger, it's like the spiderweb crackling of a timeline splitting. Like an itch at the back of his throat, an ache behind his eyes. The choices are to let you suffer alone, or to teleport himself to your side and help you through. Do you even have to wonder which option he chooses?
Simeon may have a complicated relationship with his blessing and his celestial light, with his place and his purpose, but one thing has never felt complicated:  you. Every baked good he ever made for you was made with pure love, and every gift he bestowed -- from a little sheep plush sewn by hand to earrings made from his own feathers -- had all of his hopes and wishes and prayers for you inside them. Maybe that's why squeezing the soft little plush fills you with such warmth and comfort, and why the brush of the feather against your neck feels like a kiss. When you're struggling and upset, the gifts from Simeon make you feel grounded just a little more. And perhaps it's a prayer answered for him, too, that he just has a feeling when it's time to go visit you.
Solomon has been watching out for you longer than you know. It started in the little ways, simple defensive spells and barriers to protect you, reminding demons who looked a little too closely at you who precisely he was and what he could do. It graduated to teaching you to defend yourself, and gifting you various magical trinkets and charms to help focus and direct your growing magics. You still don't really know all the ways that he keeps an eye on you. But he does. Nothing is more important than you. When one of his spells alerts him that you're upset or in distress, well. He just so happened to be in the neighborhood, MC, and what a lucky coincidence that is!
Luke is such a literal perfect little angel baby. One who gave you his blessing, to protect you even when he can't. Everyone teases him for being so young, but he knows that you are the one human he wants to guide and shelter and protect. And sure, when he gave his blessing, it was under the assumption you might need protection from demons or fae, from magic and shadow. But that doesn't mean his blessing doesn't also guide and protect you in times of need that aren't external, MC. When you're at your lowest and feeling completely alone, he feels the pull, feels your pain, and what sort of guardian angel would he be if he left you alone?
Mephistopheles you don't have a pact with (yet?), but imagine your magic ripping open a portal to him without your conscious intent when you're feeling small and lonely and just so badly miss him and want him with you. Maybe you think of him because of the kindness he has shown himself capable of; maybe you think of him because you know he's the least likely person to tell the brothers or anyone else about you having a meltdown. And he's startled and confused when this portal opens before him, the magic somewhat familiar but certainly not demonic, and he warily steps through half-expecting some idiotic prank of one of the brothers only to find you curled up and small and fragile and all of his complaints and questions can wait. After all, clearly you can't even manage your own magic right now, so someone has to keep you from causing trouble.
With Thirteen, it's the little conversation crystal that she gifted you during The Three Worlds' Fair. Perhaps you turned it into a pendant, or perhaps it's just always in your bag or pocket, kept close as a charm for good luck and reminder of the fact you aren't alone. You don't think it would actually work across realms but still hold it tightly and whisper your frustrations or fears or doubts into it just to get things off your chest. But between your magic and hers, it does still connect, and she does hear your outbursts. And at first she just lets it happen, quietly charmed and amused you would use her gift as a secret diary. But when you're really struggling? Well. Reapers are meant to move between realms, you know. There's nowhere she won't go for you.
And Raphael is not an angel to be summoned on the whim of some human. But he is incredibly observant (even if he sometimes doesn't 'read a room' well). He is the one who reads between your lines more than you expected, more than you intended, more perhaps than you want. He sees the tension you hold, the dark circles under your eyes, the way your smiles are just a little slow and empty; he hears the silences where he expects to hear laughter or humming or conversation. And he nearly ignores it, because it's not his business, and you have plenty of other devoted fans already flocking to you, but then he realizes that in those moments you don't. In your pain, you are alone, and that is the most jarring observation of them all. So perhaps it is up to him to correct this cosmic error, and be the one to support the human who supports everyone else.
I hope you still enjoy, even if it's not exactly what you had in mind! ♥ and when i get around to the other little things this spawned, i'll tag you if you'd like.

No Dinner For You (Lucifer x GN!MC)
Tumblr media
Warning. (Most of) the Brothers doesn’t care about MC/Reader (the story takes place in season 1 when nobody in HoL gives a damn about MC). Hunger. Slight mention of demon eating human. Please tell me if I miss anything :3
Not thoroughly proofread
Tumblr media
Your first day in the Devildom was hectic. You were dragged down to Hell without your consent and without any prior warning and were forced to participate in an exchange program in order to promote peace between the three realms, the dream and desire of the Demon Prince - Diavolo. Living with you were the seven six demon brothers, who could kill you and eat you on a whim. At the end of the day, you were again dragged into another mess between the second born Mammon and the third born Leviathan, the latter of whom you had to help against the former. Needless to say, you were extremely tired, both physically and mentally.
Right after you managed to find your bedroom on your own (since you were technically abandoned by your caretaker Mammon), you threw yourself on the bed.
It’s so warm and soft. I wish my life down here would be like this bed. You said within yourself as you began to doze off.
You woke up, finding yourself still in the clothes you were in when you were dragged here.
How long have I been asleep? You yawned as you got up from the bed. You had the feeling you forgot something but couldn’t remember what it was.
Suddenly, your stomach grumbled.
Oh right, dinner. You finally remembered what the thing you forgot was. You grabbed your D.D.D and went out of your room, heading to the direction that you believed was the dining room.
However, what greeted you when you exited your room was a dark hallway.
Strange, why is the light not on? You wondered as you tried to find your way through the darkness. After 5 minutes, you reached the dining room but it was also covered in the silent darkness.
Wait, just what’s going on? Are those demons trying to scare me? You asked yourself. Let’s check the kitchen. With that thought you turned back because the kitchen was next to your room.
The kitchen was also covered in darkness. But there was a difference, the darkness didn’t cover everything completely, you could still see the light from the refrigerator. As you walked closer, you could still make out a large figure standing in front of the fridge and you could hear chewing sound.
Since you were in the Devildom, the literal Hell and the kingdom of demons, monsters and abominations of various kinds, you thought it would be better to not alert the creature and turn back.
“Oh, it’s you, MC.” Before you could make your escape, the large creature turned back and discovered you. In the darkness, you could make out the orange hair and a pair of purple eyes.
“Beelzebub?”
“Yes, it’s me.” The orange head demon nodded.
“What are you doing alone here in the darkness?” You asked.
“To devour whatever food I can find in the fridge of course. But I could ask you the same, what are you doing here, MC?”
“Well, isn’t it time for dinner? I came to the dining room but found no one there.”
“MC, uh…I think you should check your D.D.D. It’s midnight.”
What? At first, you didn’t want to believe Beelzebub but when you opened your D.D.D to check, you found his words to be true. The phone screen’s time showed 23:59, and you were just in time when it turned 00:00, officially ending your first day in the Devildom.
“So I missed my dinner.” You said as you tried to reassure within yourself that the demons must have left something for you, though even you doubted that.
“Yeah, we thought you didn’t want to eat dinner so we already ate your portion. There’s nothing left of it.”
“Oh, so is there anything left in the fridge?”
“No, nothing left in the fridge. I ate all of them.” Beelzebub answered then walked past you, exiting the kitchen, leaving you and an empty fridge.
Your stomach grumbled again. But you had nothing to satisfy your hunger. You could only hold your abdomen as you went back to your room. Looked like you would have to suffer hunger tonight. No one really cared about you here. You might even be dead for whatever reason that they probably not knowing anything until your body started to decompose and they only found out due to the smell. You wanted to cry but you manage to hold the tears back.
Don’t cry, MC. If you cry over a meal and the uncaring attitude of those demons, how are you gonna survive in Hell for one year? You shouldn’t cry because of those demons, they’re just like society, which doesn’t give a damn about you.
“May I ask what are you doing here, MC?”
You turned around and met a pair of crimson eyes. You knew it to be Lucifer, the eldest of the brothers.
Lucifer frowned when he saw your face. Even though it was dark, demons could see very well in the dark, they are creatures of the darkness after all. And what the Avatar of Pride saw were your red eyes that threatened to turn to two waterfalls at any given moment and quiver lips.
“No, it’s nothing.” You tried to dismiss the issue and walk away but the eldest already blocked your way.
“MC, it’s my duty to take care of your need while you are staying here and not letting you suffer any unjust discomfort. Tell me, what’s troubling you?”
You were unsure why but you felt attracted to the pair of crimson eyes when you looked at them. You felt that you could tell him any difficulty and it would be resolved.
“I’m hungry.” You said.
“Hungry? Didn’t you have dinner with my brothers?”
“I overslept and missed it. Your brothers decided to divide my portion among themselves. Beelzebub ate all the food in the fridge so now I have nothing to eat.”
“I’m sorry that this kind of inhospitality happened, MC. I wasn’t home at dinner and my brothers caused trouble for you. Nevertheless, it’s my fault for letting this kind of situation happened. Please let me make it up for you.”
“Ok.” You weren’t sure how the eldest was going to make it up for you but you agreed anyway, better than refusing and letting yourself suffer.
With your permission, Pride led you to his room, where he took out some high quality delicious dishes and a bottle of wine from a hidden cabinet.
“Wait, you store food in your room?”
“Well, yes. Sometimes, I need to enjoy a peaceful and quiet meal without my brothers’ interference, so I hide some dishes from Ristorante Six, a high end restaurant in Devildom, in there. I hope you will not tell my unruly brothers about this.”
“Ok. You have my word for that.”
“Very well.”
After the first bite, you found yourself eating the most delicious dishes you had ever tasted.
“These dishes are so good.” You praised as you were digging in.
“I’m glad you like Devildom food. Eat more.”
“Aren’t you going to eat? They’re yours after all.”
“No need. This is me compensating for you.”
“You should eat too. Or else I would be feel guilty of eating someone else’s food, being no different from your brothers.”
“Alright, if you insist.”
Then you assumed eating. You didn’t notice the pair of crimson eyes looking at you. The owner of those eyes didn’t care about eating, but only fixing his gaze on you.
It’s a good feeling. Lucifer said within himself and smiled. He even poured a glass of wine, whose name you later learnt to be Demonus, for you, saying the best food should be accompanied with best wine.
The next morning,
“MC, do you like our new chandelier decoration?” The eldest asked when you stepped inside the dining room for breakfast.
You looked above and found the five brothers being hung on the chandelier.
“Why am I hung up here? I have carefully disposed of all the bills. Why?”
“Lucifer, please let me down. I still need to watch that special episode of Ruri-chan.”
“I didn’t cause any trouble or prank you. This is you being prejudice against me.”
“Lucifer, being hung up will harm my skin.”
“So hungry.”
You looked at the decoration for a little while before smiling.
“It’s very peculiar. But I like it.” You said as you went to your seat and sat down.
“All of you,” Lucifer looked up and said, “Reflect on your action last evening.”
“Wait, what did we do?”
“Figure it out yourself.”
Why the others were complaining, the fourth born looked at you and frowned.
“Oi oi, I think it’s about the dinner last night.” Satan whispered to the others as they began to discuss among themselves.
It seemed that you would be receiving many apologies that same day. And it was all thanks to the Avatar of Pride.
Even if it’s out of obligation, at least he cares for my well-being.
Author’s words
I had this idea in my head some months ago before writing it. With the brothers don’t give a damn about us in early season 1, there’s high chance we will have to go hungry and have nothing to eat if we miss a meal or come to the dining room late.
Also, Lucifer having taken a liking of us since the start (evidence in Lesson 2-A normal) also inspires details in this fic.

So I no longer think that Alastor made a deal with Lilith, nor that he is working for her. I do still think their disappearances are connected though.
Picture this:
Alastor while he's still alive fears the prospect of death due to the lack of control it presents. He finds a way to make a deal with a power (my suspicion is that it's the character Root of All Evil (Roo) that Viv has hinted is the background threat of Hazbin Hotel, who I imagine is what Eve became when she committed the original sin). Alastor sells his soul to Roo in exchange for power both in life and death. He kills a bunch of people and at least some of them are in aid of his deal.
Alastor dies and and arrives in Hell charged up on Roo's power, and with a direction to amass even more. He spends the next several decades slaughtering Overlords, but not doing much with what he gathers. He isn't interested in running a business, or gathering territory, just growing his power and persuing his whims. For Alastor it seems like he won the lottery with this deal.
Meanwhile we have Lillith who all through time has been trying to empower Hell and bring it together. Heaven started the exterminations, but she continues to persist even as Lucifer loses his spark. If Roo is actually Eve, she has every reason to want to see Lilith destroyed and Hell suffer.
So during an extermination seven years ago Roo gives Alastor an outright command: kill Lilith. This is obviously not something Alastor would be keen to do, but he has no choice. He goes after Lilith and they fight. Powered by Roo and the power he's amassed, he manages to win the fight and Lilith is killed, only to respawn in Heaven (after all she's been a loving mother and cared for the people of Hell, and the only sin she was initially guilty of was rejecting Adam, and she looked decidedly non demon-ish and didn't have any horns in episode 8) or possibly flees there??
Alastor barely makes it out of the fight alive, and spends the next seven years recuperating and trying to figure out how to escape his deal with Roo. He's finally realised that his deal isn't as good as it seemed and he's starting to pay the price. If Lucifer ever finds out what he did, he'd be a smear on the pavement.
Then he finds a possible solution: Charlie. The daughter of a fallen angel and the first demon, young and idealistic and in need of support on her brand new project. While she might not use her powers, she has the potential to become scarily powerful over time.
Alastor hatches a plan - show up at the hotel, give a plausible reason for being there, and slowly ingratiate himself with her and shape her progression until he can position her into making a deal with him. Maybe one favour won't be enough, but it can be a slippery slope for Charlie. When the time comes he can manipulate her into freeing him from his deal, and leave him free to carry out his own plans (maybe setting himself up to rule Hell through Charlie as a puppet ruler?)
Over the next six months he positions himself to gain trust. He manipulate Lucifer by antagonizing him into supporting Charlie and setting up the seeds of a confrontation with Heaven. Then the time comes and he pounces and makes the deal, and he has one favour stored away to use at the most inopportune time for Charlie.
Then the battle comes and Alastor gets cocky. He volunteers himself to deal with Adam, and nearly dies for it. This freaks him the fuck out - he'd already gotten his favour but he risked himself to save them all more than he really needed to. I think that despite himself he'd started to think fondly of the hotel team and let it influence his judgement just a little.
In the aftermath of the battle he's shaken and his song is him reaffirming the plans he had when he first came to the hotel, and telling himself that he needs to escape his deal at any cost.
I think that in the coming seasons we could see the following:
- Alastor trying to double down on his whole 'I'm the untouchable radio demon' bit to try and distance himself from the hotel team, only to fail as they keep getting under his skin.
- Alastor slowly getting more desperate as the consequences of his deal close in, and increasing conflict as he wars with what this means.
- everything culminating in a moment where Alastor has to make a choice to betray the hotel team for freedom, and does it without hesitation and is all 'I'm the villain Charlie, did you really think I could be redeemed? How amusing.'
- Alastor then realising that despite having betrayed everyone he does actually care and his goals seeming hollow in the aftermath of this.
- the question of whether even someone like Alastor deserves a second chance/to be forgiven as he tries to convince Charlie to work with him to take down Roo, is the real threat to them all.
- Heaven and Hell fighting side by side to destroy Roo and the reformation of the afterlife entirely.
