Chloe saw God and immediately decided to throw hands and write an essay on how much he sucks completely unprompted for Lucifer and honestly I love that for her

eve refusing to take the immortality ring is a huge character development because old!eve would have done anything to make her current partner happy.
eve is still eve, she loves with abandon and throws herself into it headfirst and makes big romantic gestures because that's who she is but she is not willing to compromise her ideals/principles to please her love anymore, which shows how different this relationship is from her previous ones, in a good way.

So after sitting on Lucifer 5b for a little...how do you feel about it? I thought there were parts I absolutely loved and some parts that were a little weak
I totally agree, anon! Okay so this is going to get long, apologies. First off, I enjoyed the season as a whole! I think I'd give it a B- overall. Let's get into it:
.
What I loved:
I, to my own surprise, really liked the musical episode?? It was fun and the cast was clearly having a good time. The duet at the end got me teary.
I really loved the character focused episodes with Dan, and Linda, and Maze with Eve. I think the episodes could be sprinkled better in the season rather than clustered in the second half, but I so enjoyed a look into the rest of the cast. Also look at Lucifer's growth!!!!
I loved the family dinner scene. You get a taste of that oppressive, dysfunctional atmosphere between them all. Lucifer was riveting in that scene, well done Tom.
Charlie remains the cutest baby to ever baby.
I love BAMF Chloe dealing with celestial shit. Missed you, baby. I'm a little sad about her leaving the LAPD since it's been a cornerstone of the show, and I'm a little iffy about how they framed it in context, but Chloe wanting to dive into being with Lucifer, supporting him and not hesitating in their relationship is lovely. Lucifer has supported her job the entire show, so it's neat to see it switch.
I loved God's conversation with Ella. How those who struggle with darkness can have the brightest of light. That the battle is worth it. I loved Ella and Dan's interactions. LOVED ALL THE SPANISH BEING SPOKEN thank you for using your actors bilingual abilities.
Lucifer and his father reconciling!!! He knows his dad loves him and is proud of him.
I LOVED so much a look at Heaven / the Silver City. A place where all the doors are open. Paradise spread out for all to enjoy. I legitimately get emotional about it lol.
The abrupt turn from silly into serious with Dan. I just. I just cried a lot. Extremely well done, even if it broke my heart.
Lucifer cutting off Michael's wings was sexy as FUCK.
I loved seeing the other angels and we can FINALLY put a number to how many siblings Lucifer has. Also if Zadkiel is single hmu. But what the hell is up with handjobadiel? It's such a cheap joke 🤣
I'm not sure how I feel about Lucifer being God, but knowing that he is worthy of it, of being his father's successor, that being God is about love and about sacrifice, I think it's a fitting conclusion even if I'm a little wtf about it.
Questions I Have:
There were certain scenes that were mentioned but not shown. What did the conversation of handing the ring over to Maze look like? How was Michael convincing God he was slipping? How could that even happen with a being who is omniscient???
Why is Maze worried about eve dying when Eve already waltzed out of heaven once?
Why did no one retrieve Dan's soul? I don't think Dan would care if he was popped into a different body as long as he was alive and not in hell?
Things I Didn't like:
I didn't like how far they leaned into the silliness with God. It was understandable for Mum to be clueless, she had no interest or dealings with humans before, but god MADE THEM. Why is he being so ridiculous? I wish they had cut the silliness one episode short and we could have had better lead in into the reconciliation. Which I DID love, but it also felt a little weird to me. Rushed. Like God says he can tell Lucifer, now that he's retiring, that he loves him and is proud of him...but the caveat of retirement bothers me. He couldn't tell Lucifer before that?? God can't tell his own sons he loves him while working the job?
Also I know it was forever ago, but not one mention of Uriel. :/ For an arc about family getting along, not a word about it.
Mum returning for a brief moment, as cool as it is to see her again, doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Just have Gabriel appear and tell them that Mum wants God in her universe so the continuity of her leaving and unable to return remains intact. It just pokes holes in the story for a cameo of the actress.
God saying he DID give his children free will. No official explanation on why Lucifer was sent to hell (I'm assuming just punishment for rebellion, but then why was Lucifer rebelling if he already had free will?).
No further explanation on what it means that Chloe is a miracle or why God put her there. Lucifer never asked if his father if Mum was telling the truth about God wanting to destroy him. Not very many answers at all.
I would have loved a few moments of just casual intimacy with Deckerstar other than lil smooches. (I'd kill for some couch cuddles. Stop having serious conversations while standing. Please go snuggle and talk.)
.
I'm sure I'll probably think of more things as I percolate but yeah. I think, as much as I love Joe and Illdy's writing, I feel that they really struggle with pacing/lead up. So much time was spent with God annoying Lucifer that the heavier moments didn't feel as earned as I wanted them to. That said, I DID enjoy about 75-80% of the second half of the season.
I really am looking forward to s6 with more character focus where the writers don't have to juggle complex plots and then get lost in universe scale issues.

chloe jane decker wasn't scared of god in 5x10 because she has no reason to be. she's sleeping with the devil himself. she was housemates with a demon. she was engaged to the world's first murderer. she was emotionally manipulated by an evil priest and her lover's psycho archangel twin. she literally has no fucks left to give.
