Los caucus de Iowa abren las primarias republicanas con Trump como claro favorito
Des Moines (EE.UU.).- Los emblemáticos caucus de Iowa dan este lunes el pistoletazo de salida de las primarias republicanas para las elecciones presidenciales de noviembre, un proceso en el que el expresidente de Estados Unidos Donald Trump (2017-2021) parte como indiscutible favorito.
Los votantes republicanos de Iowa están llamados a desafiar el clima y elegir a su candidato preferido en medio de una histórica ola de frío que ha impactado en ese estado del Medio Oeste del país con temperaturas muy por debajo de los cero grados.
Las encuestas sitúan a Trump como imbatible y la gran duda es quién quedará segundo: Ron DeSantis, gobernador de Florida y también miembro del ala dura de los republicanos, o la moderada Nikki Haley, exgobernadora de Carolina del Sur y exembajadora de EE.UU. ante la ONU.
Ambos pelean por el segundo lugar en los caucus de Iowa para erigirse como la gran alternativa a Trump y en búsqueda de un revulsivo en sus carreras políticas.
También participan en la contienda, aunque con menores posibilidades, el empresario Vivek Ramaswamy y el exgobernador de Arkansas Asa Hutchinson.
Los caucus son asambleas de vecinos convocadas este lunes a las 19:00 hora local (01:00 GMT del martes) en centenares de colegios e iglesias de todo el Estado.
Allí se debatirá y se elegirán a los delegados de Iowa que participarán en la convención de verano donde se nombrará al candidato presidencial del Partido Republicano.
Iowa es un estado rural de poca población que no tiene mucho peso en esa convención, pero sus caucus han gozado históricamente de un enorme simbolismo por ser la primera cita en el calendario de primarias.
La participación será un factor clave, dado que una potente tormenta de nieve ha convertido estos caucus en los más fríos de la historia y ha provocado la cancelación de varios actos de campaña.
En Des Moines, capital de Iowa, se esperan temperaturas por debajo de los -20 grados. El Servicio Meteorológico de Estados Unidos ha advertido que la piel expuesta a este frío se puede congelar en solo diez minutos.
En las últimas horas, los aspirantes republicanos han pedido a sus bases que desafíen el frío y acudan a votar, incluido Trump, cuya campaña teme que sus seguidores den la victoria por segura y se queden en casa.
La dirección del Partido Demócrata, por su parte, ha roto este año con la tradición y no arrancará su proceso de primarias en Iowa, sino que pretende hacerlo el 3 de febrero en Carolina del Sur.
El presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, quien busca su reelección para un segundo mandato, quiere comenzar las primarias demócratas con una cómoda victoria en Carolina del Sur, un estado más moderado y con mayor población afroamericana que Iowa. E

Altama OTB shoes (otb/finning/vbss/lifting/skydiving) simply a better version of the Converse Chuck Taylors. Great for OTB & VBSS, decent for finning but not the best. pretty flat so not great for running or rucking.
Poseidon One Shoe. this is a mix of the Converse Truck Taylors and the Aqua Lung dive boots.
Dive booties (used when doing hella finning/SCUBA Diving)
Field work:
Why I prefer non-Gore Tex? simply put moisture becomes trapped in Gore-Tex shoes, causing blisters and bacteria growth.
Oboz boots Sawtooth II mid b Gore Tex version (Hiking rugged terrain /assault Climbing Bridgeport/Rucking/light ankle support/patrolling/skydiving)
Oboz sawtooth II Low non-Gore Tex version (VBSS/climbing/light rucking/CQB/patrolling/skydiving)
Salomon Quest 4D GTX Forces (Gotta Keep the laces loose in the front due to the boots having a narrow toe box)(Go to boots wish the issued ones weren’t GoreTex)
Salomon XA Pro mid GTX Forces (VBSS/climbing/light rucking/CQB/patrolling/skydiving) these shoes offer ankle support & are light but the laces wont last. Only use if your not carrying more then 30lbs in a pack.
Lowa Zephyr GTX Mid TF. Currently torture testing these.
SALEWA Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Boots. I know a few dudes that wear these but i’ve personally haven't.
Salomon Speedcross 5 Goretex. awesome trail runner but once the laces go your kinda screwed.
