Today in the snek rambles about random fandom things, we have: Danny’s age! Specifically, how he ages long-term, seeing as he half-died at fourteen.

Now, a lot of the fics I see that age Danny up in some way have his human body aging, either normally or occasionally at a slower rate, and his ghost form naturally changing to mimic that. Almost as common are the fics where Danny’s human form ages while his ghost form stays at the age he died. And don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of fun to be had with both those options. I’ve seen some great fics playing with both those concepts.

…But yknow what I haven’t seen?

A fic where Danny’s ghost form is the one that ages, while his human form stays the same. Think about it, a ghost’s form is malleable, and doesn’t necessarily reflect what a person originally looked like so much as what they think they should be. This is almost alway the explanation given for Danny’s ghost form aging with him, when a fic writer decides to go that route. Ghost forms are malleable, it makes perfect sense for Danny’s Phantom form to be capable of aging, so long as Danny believes that it should be.

…but you wanna know what isn’t so malleable? A human body. And for all that Danny’s still alive, he’s also dead, and while the show seems to portray Danny and Phantom as two separate halves with little to no bleedover, fanon seems to prefer having the boundaries between death and life in one Danny Phantom be much blurrier. As do I. Danny is a human who is dead, just as Phantom is a ghost who is alive. Both and neither at the same time. And while living humans age, dead ones don’t.

So. When Danny walked into the portal, he died. And regardless of how you want to argue semantics of resurrection and was there a brief period of time when he was only dead and he was also alive when he left the portal, he did die and a part of him stayed dead. Meaning that, by some definitions, his human body can be considered a corpse. And corpses don’t age.

Just, imagine the potential angst there, of Danny realizing, a year or two or three after the accident that no, he’s not just a late bloomer. He’s just. Not. Aging. And never will again, at least as a human. How long did it take him to recognize that fact? …how long did it take for him to realize that he can never seamlessly blend into human society again? His Phantom form is obviously not human, and his human one will never make it past fourteen.

…But then, his ghost form is still aging, it never stopped even after he noticed that the two forms no longer look the same. Even after he accepts that Danny Fenton will never make it past fourteen. There’s a part of him that recognizes that he’s still alive and that he should be aging, so Phantom grows up even though Fenton never will.

Which, if you’re inclined to keep piling on the angst, can also serve to isolate him from ghost society. A being of change trying to fit into a community of people who will forever stay the same. Preserved exactly as they were at their time of death. Except for Danny. Who’s still the odd one out, even in death. A ghost who’s growing up and a human who’ll forever remain a child.

…

Orrrr if you’re not in the mood for soul-crushing angst, you can also use this concept for fun and hijinks. Age Danny up a couple decades, plop him into any world with other superheroes, and watch the identity shenanigans take over. I’m especially fond of this being done with the Justice League, because he’s basically a reverse Captain Marvel. Imagine, the League finds out that their adult coworker is actually a small child masquerading as a grownass man through the power of a magically aged-up superhero form and a lot of bullshit. They see that when Billy Batson is in his civilian/human form he returns to his actual age. And then they see phantom, another coworker who, when not in the form they use for heroics, physically turns into a child. And so they go “we got this, no further clarification needed.” (Spoiler alert: they do not, in fact, got this).

The Sham | Jay Walker

The Winged Serpent

We had a black out today so I went back to my roots, paper and pencil. And drew Jay from my Ninjago AU | the Sham in one of his designs.

In this design he's a bit older, a lil bit farther into the future of the story I've been slowly (🐢 pace) working where he shows off more features without a care in the world or be bothered by any discriminations he'd been faced with by the same people he protects.

His hair is long enough to tie with a lil ribbon, feather earring with a chain connecting back to his piercing, ofc his outfit which is much more revealing and shows off more of his scales and lastly his split tongue that he's sticking out to his lil snek friend :3

Just a few thoughts after talking with @ineffabildaddy about my favorite angel.

If the Bentley is an extension of Crowley, the same can be said about the bookshop as an extension of Aziraphale. The bookshop physically embodies a few characteristics of Aziraphale:

deep curiosity and a thirst for experiences/knowledge

an appreciation for language and metaphor and symbolism

desire for a place, for belonging

The first two characteristics are actually traits shared by Crowley and Aziraphale. Both are curious creatures, who enjoy the experience of existing on earth. But their shared appreciation for language, metaphor and symbolism is critical to their relationship, because they communicate with a complicated language of words and actions that is coded to be understandable to only them. 

But, the desire Aziraphale has for a place to exist isn't just about himself - he wants a place to exist WITH Crowley. It is cannon that Aziraphale's shop is an embassy of Heaven, which is likely how he justified its existence. Up until the Armagedidn't, this means he cannot stop Heaven from party crashing.

But, and this is a IMPORTANT, he CAN keep Hell out. While we know that Heaven is a threat to both Aziraphale and Crowley, both of them spend most of their history worrying about their own side. In the bookshop, Aziraphale can create a safe space for Crowley from Hell.

Stop and let that sink in.

For hundreds of years, the place that is most important to Aziraphale does not actually protect him from what he perceives as the greatest threat to himself - it instead provides protection from what he perceives as the greatest threat against Crowley.

In season 2, it appears that Heaven no longer has a carte blanche to enter the bookshop, meaning that for a brief they really did have their own safe place. But from the arrival of Jimbriel, the bookshop is besieged by both Heaven and Hell until they both quite literally breach it.

So when Crowley says "You can't leave this bookshop" and Aziraphale tells him "Oh Crowley, nothing lasts forever" - whatever you think Aziraphale is asking of or hinting to Crowley in The Last Fifteen - remember his decisions are based on his terror over the fact that the bookshop was always meant to protect the one being he loves and cares about more than himself, and it is No Longer Safe.

Aight theory time for genshin!!! Spoilers for Chenyu Vale lore and world quests.

So I finished the main world quest inChenyu Vale yesterday and explored parts of it today. Here are my theories centered around the Herblord and Changsheng.

First off disclaimers and take this with a grain of salt.

Now in the world quest Fujin (Carp Adepti) asked for your help in regards to the soil and water in Chenyu Vale. During the quest you will learn about her, Lingyuan the Suanni beast, and Herblord a white snake. During the quest Herblord is not referred to any other names so we do not know who she is. Or do we?

In Baizhu's story quest cutscene there was a doctor who once went to Chenyu Vake in search of the Herblord and found only a white snake who gave him a contract. That snake turned out to be Changsheng. Herblord is someone who is famed when it came to medicine and so is Changsheng, it was also said during Baizhu SQ that Changsheng was once very powerful and yet her memories were not as good as it once was. So the theory here is that Changsheng = Herblord.

There are many points that also supports this theory.

During exploration I came across notes that is written by Herblord and her personality is quite like Changsheng's

In the world quest you will come across a mural of Fujin and Herblord with Herblord having a similar appearance to Changsheng

Xiao seems to know who Changsheng is and wants to say something to her during Baizhu SQ. This aligns with the fact that during the Archon war Fujin and Changsheng are serving another God who is an enemy of Rex Lapis.

But I do have another theory. It is that Changsheng is not Herblord but rather, someone who is FROM her. The basis of that theory is this convo with Lingyuan.

I believe that IF Changsheng is not Herblord then she is the one referenced by Lingyuan here.
