Disclaimer: didn’t bother to read this but anyway no it isn’t. If you don’t like it, write an original story instead of “””adapting””” someone else’s. If that’s too hard, maybe you shouldn’t be a professional writer

The only reason I’m rooting for this new lotr tv show is bc I hope it brings in a bunch of new fans, reignites the old fandom, and brings in an uptake of lotr shifts bc since I’ve been posting about lotr dr on tiktok I’ve gotten like 0 interaction 🥲

Not Lord of the Rings falling into the “adaptation tie in cover” trap.

If I had a nickel for every time a piece of media I liked had a recent billion-dollar adaptation that fundamentally misunderstood and disrespected the source material that got lots of negative internet attention, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it’s happened twice.
Seriously though, what are the odds that the two things this blog has fixated on—LotR and Cats—have both had this happen to them within just a few years of each other? Been given the same treatment by Hollywood and consequently received the retaliation of the internet?
The main difference though is that I will still defend a lot about Cats (2019), while Rings of Power I will not.
Also, Amazon is putting a lot of money and effort into erasing negative reviews of RoP and getting good critic scores, whereas Cats didn’t get the same support. Even so, and I find this especially hilarious, Cats (2019) still has a higher audience score on Rotten Tomatoes than Rings of Power does.

I simply think very occasionally, very strategically, Jenkins will stand behind a LIT or guardian watching TV without headphones in his freaking annex and he will go. "That's not funny. that happened to me once." with such absolute pokerface. its impossible not to get a bit scared.

As much as there are negatives of the Rings of Power coming out, I will say, it will bring in new Tolkien fans who will get interested and read the books. They'll probably be like "oh there's more to this than just Aragorn and Frodo?" And you know what? I'm not going to gatekeep Tolkien from new fans. Big corporations who just want money? Yeah, totally, but new fans? Nope.
The universe Tolkien created is so beautiful and vast and detailed and honestly a masterpiece of literature, and it's been one of the biggest parts of my life. I don't want to keep other people from enjoying this collection of stories that I've enjoyed from childhood into adulthood.
The Amazon show might not be good, it might just be absolutely awful, but it'll bring new people into the fandom. There's going to be people who see Galadriel for the first time and think she's awesome and look more into her character and find out she's one of the most powerful beings of Middle Earth. There's going to be people interested in Númenor and that history. There's going to be people who see the Harfoots and think they're so different from the hobbits they read about in middle school so they might read The Hobbit again. People will probably do something like try and watch the movies and TV show in chronological order, watching The Hobbit movies and then the LOTR movies just to get that cinematic storyline feel. It's going to bring new appreciation for the other works as well.
I might be shitting on Amazon for making The Rings of Power, but for the new fans who will probably get more interested into Tolkien's works, I welcome them. I won't guilt anyone who likes the show, and if they're new to the fandom, I'll definitely make sure this is a space for them to explore more of Tolkien's works.

So the word Ork only exists because people misspoke or misspelled the actual word Uruk?
