Why did Veda Vyasa select Sri Ganesh as the writer of the Mahabharata?

It is believed that when Sage Vyasa conceived the Mahabharata, he knew that it was too good a story to be written by an ordinary scribe. He searched near and far for someone who could write the Mahabharata for him but to no avail. Then it occurred to him that he could tell Lord Ganesha to write the Mahabharata for him. He approached Lord Ganesha and Lord Ganesha agreed to write the Mahabharata but he had one condition.

Lord Ganesha revealed his condition by saying that he would write the Mahabharata only if Sage Vyasa would recite it to him non-stop without a pause. Sage Vyasa agreed to Lord Ganesha’s condition but he also had a counter-condition. He stated that Lord Ganesha would not write anything without fully understanding the sentence or the plot. Lord Ganesha agreed to Sage Vyasa’s condition and so the writing of the Mahabharata began.

Lord Ganesha was very quick at writing and hence he wrote at a great speed. This is where the wisdom of Sage Vyasa prevailed. He would purposely put some complex sentences in between which would take Lord Ganesha time to understand before he could write it down. This allowed Vyasa to catch a breath and also think in his head as to how the next sentences would be framed.

It is also believed that while writing at a very fast speed, Lord Ganesha broke the stylus with which he was writing the epic. But since he could not stop, he broke a piece of his tusk and continued. That is one of the stories that describe why Lord Ganesha is known as ‘Ekadanta’ (One who has one tusk). This selfless act of Lord Ganesha also tells us that when it comes to gaining knowledge, no amount of sacrifice is enough.

I haven't had an altar space up since the end of January when I was preparing to move. Since then, while still unpacking, taking care of my fully disabled husband and 2 cats AND working a full-time job...I've had neither the time nor energy to get it set up. Today, I finally rectified that. It's not fancy, rigidly orthodox, or even pretty, according to some perspectives. What this altar space does is give me a place to center, let go, and lean into the love, energies, and magick of my Spirit Squad. I walk by it and feel the presence of my family and guides. I make offerings and light my (almost) daily candles to my current pantheon: LA Santa Muerte, Lord Ganesha, and Yemaya. Each has given me strength and inspiration during the bright and darker days. This may change as They choose their time in working with me, but the altar is always a loving and respectful place, no matter who is in my daily Squad. My life is still crazy stressful. However, when the altar is fired up, I feel peace in my home and my heart. I'm grounded and centered, where previously I've felt untethered and off-balance. I just wanted to share the moment. I know some witchy folks take issue with showing your altar space. My response: this is not for you. I walk my path, my way. I share for love, connection, and support of others who feel they walk a different road. I don't profit from this, except to know I'm living true to myself. My Spirit Squad has no issue with me showing my altar, and believe me, I'd know if they did! This is my safe space. It is small, but so is my home. It is my spiritual well and center. It makes me feel good, renewed, recharged, and happy. Sri Hari Vishnu himself is Ganesha.

The Maha Bhagavata Purana states the Vishnu himself is Ganesha.

The story goes that when Vishnu saw Kartikeya cuddling in the lap of Parvati, he desired to experience the bliss of being the son of Jagadamba and drink her nectar milk. The Goddess sensed this desire of Vishnu and granted him the boon that he'll surely become her son.

Thus, the Goddess gave birth to Ganesha who was none other than Sri Hari himself. She embraced him and made him drink her milk. After Shiva had beheaded Ganesha, he apologized to Vishnu that just as he has beheaded him in the form of Ganesha, a time will come when Vishnu will incarnate as Sri Krishna. As Krishna, he'll come to battle with Shiva in Shonitpura, and there, the weapon of Krishna will benumb Shiva so that he'll be unable to further fight in the battle. He will equate himself with Vishnu in knowledge, culture, wisdom, prowess.this is the reason why Ganesh is 2nd most intelligent being after Mahavishnu
