Haradrim Erasure

There is something incredibly poetic about the fact that the Rings of Power, which makes a big deal of being diverse with it’s raceswapping, when it visits The ONE place of Middle earth that is covered in season 1, that in Tolkiens legendarium that WASNT settled by white people(the southlands), they literarily erased said people(The Haradrim) from the area, and then replaced them with generic white people that didnt existin his legendarium.

Rather than actually cover the story of the Haradrim, and give us an insight into their culture, and showcase the tragedy that was their fall to sauron, why they hated the numenorians so much, and to build on Tolkiens stance that unlike the orcs, the men who served sauron were not evil by nature, Amazon literarily completely wrote Tolkien’s most notable POC people out of their story in favor of racebending it’s white characters.

Imagine if in AGOT the creators had just handled Dorne by erasing them from the setting, and then replacing them with a generic white, andal culture, and you basically gets just how fucking insulting that is.

Can someone please tell me why Gil-Galad is the only elf who actually looks like a Tolkien elf in the new LOTR series? I'm sorry but I'm not digging the rest of the character design for this show...🤷‍♀️

I will say the orc design photos they released are SICK and ON POINT, but so far I'm not impressed with the show's presentation as a whole...🤷‍♀️

Do you ever think about how Tolkien’s vision of the greatest evil in the universe was something he referred to as “The Machine” which was his way of talking about accelerated industrialism and mass surveillance and he wrote multiple books where the main villains were a dragon who sits on a huge pile of treasure that he never intends to use but incinerates anyone who comes near it, a man in a giant tower who’s wrecking the environment with his factories, and an evil being who uses what’s essentially a listening device to control the citizens of middle earth. And now Amazon is making a Tolkien show. Do you ever think about that.

You know... Seeing GRRM essentially tell every single fan of Tolkien's books off as cunts if they don't like the Rings of Power previews, if they have already given up on after it's made it clear that the series will, in no particular order:

"Ignore the very detailed time-line that Tolkien spent decades and decades perfecting, compress hundreds of years into just a few decades, have Hobbits living in the shire that should not exist for millennia, insert a whole host of OC characters into a work that already had plenty of characters they could use to explore this time period, rewrite Galadriel, a woman who was meant to be the personification of a powerfull, regul queen as an angry, pissed off, emo teen despite the fact she's thousands of years old by this point, ignore the ACTUAL POC peoples of Tolkien's middle earth, their culture, their story, their humanity, and show us why their enslavement under Sauron was such a tragedy in favor of rewriting the ethnicities of people based on the people of the british isles and pretending that the Haradrim, variags and others don't exists, and all around looking horribly cheap despite the ridiculous budget."

-Has made me realize what a an enormous, unsufferable sellout he is.

Like... This is a guy who saw his magnus Opus be BUTCHERED on national television. The most spectacular fall from grace in television history...

And instead of trying to redeem it by focusing on winds of winter, and a dream for spring, he instead bitches at us for having the nerve to point out that he's well over a decade late on writing his book, when he's made countless comments over the years to the effect of "Just give me time and i'll get it out", promises it's his top priority, that it's all he's working on, and he instead takes time off writing history books about stuff that we don't need to know, and he actually promised he wouldn't waste his time on until the main series was done, and eventually just came out and declared, despite all his promises that he was working on winds of winter above everything else, he's now devoting most of his to other shit instead.

This guy has for all intends and purposes given up on his book fans. The men and women who were there for him from the start, and more importantly, are STILL there for him, even after AGOT burned out like junkie at the end and became forever remembered as trash.

And you know what? That would be fine. It's true, he doesn't owe us anything... But we don't owe him jack shit either. I have no interest in House of the dragon, or any of the other tv-shows Martin is sacrificing WOW for. But if he wants to make them, then by all means, go ahead and do that.

But don't fucking come here and critique others for standing up for a man who spent his entire life doing what YOU aren't doing.

Tolkien spent his entire life on his legendarium, he worked on it until the day he died. He finished it, he refined it, he released his appendices and their stories after he was done with the main story, and he spent over 50 years working on a small, not that important backstory prequel book about a character mentioned once or twice in the lord of the rings set, never releasing it before his death because he was just that dedicated to the quality of his writing and the world he made.

And he didn't do it for the cash, the fame, or the fact it made him legendary. He did it because he truly, genuinely loved his work, and you can tell that with every single bit of extra detail he put into fleshing out his entire world.

Tolkien was approached several times in his lifetime to adapt his work. And do you know what he said each time when it was made clear they wouldn't respect his source material? He told them to piss off, because he genuinely loved his work, and refused to see it be mishandled like "A Game of Thrones" was.

Tolkien would NEVER have stood for a single one of the changes I mentioned above, and fans know he wouldn't, because Tolkien made it very, very clear what his world was, and he refused to compromise on that world.

A mythology for his homeland of England, with a defined, clear, coherent timeline of one end of the setting to the end, with very clear backstories for his world and all the people in it, who refused to let anyone adapt it unless he felt they could do it justice.

Who the hell is Martin, an old man who sacrificed his own book fans for TV series that cannot salvage AGOT no matter how good they are, to tell fans who remember Tolkien, his dedication to every meticulous detail of the world he made, what he stood for, and refuses to acknowledge this garbled fanfiction as an addition to the world Tolkien made, when he made it abundantly clear what he thought of inaccurate adaptions, that they aren't real fans of Tolkien?

Tolkien is dead Martin. His legacy stands, because he made it, and unlike Star Wars, no one can come and claim that they're just "Continuing the story" with varying degrees of success regarding quality, because Lord of the Rings, and by extension Tolkien's entire legendarium is done.

We know damn well what Tolkien's story was about. We read it, We know it by heart. We know how it begins, and we know how it ends, unlike a song of ice and fire, which will never be finished. And that means we don't have to speculate "will this be faithful to Tolkien's world?" Because we can tell by a single glance whether or not it will be.

And rings of Power, even if it was the best story ever told(And it's not going to be), is not the story Tolkien tried to tell. Not by any stretch of the imagination. It doesn't even try to be.

One autumn afternoon 🍂

Air was still warm but not so warm like when summer was in the air. It had taste of winter already. You had been on way in on woods when you could hear it. Long scream which would make people run away for life. But you let all blueberries you found run to noise. The skirt moved between your legs and then you had see it. 

Orgs! They had been scary but your mouth open in surprise. As you realise you had been witness of fight between orgs and Elves. Well Elves. One just run away left from you and let the sword there.  You realise you watch female elve fight with 2 orgs. The female was so beautiful.  Her hair loked like gold in sunlight and her body moved with such a ease even when she wear amnor like usually wear men. You gasped when one of orgs stabbed to her back and she screamed in pain. 

You acted on instinct. Not thinking. Running to sword you had seen in the grass and taking it in your hand. It was so heavy for you but you watched in horror like the org stabbed to beauty back again and still she didn't stop fighting. 

You run to them and grabbed sword harder and stabbed it to org side. It went through his body so eaily.  He hit you and you end on the ground but that moment was enough for unknown Elve kill org she was fighting and it last minute slide her sword trough neck of one who was just so close to kill you. 

"Follish girl " The words had been mubled of elve which sit next to you in grass. She had been injured severly and you could see it. 

"I helped " You gasped little bit suprise of her words and see all blood on her amnor you had been sure it's not end yet. 

The woman touched her back with her hand and on her face was suprise as well like if she didn't noticed it during fight but it started to hurt her now when fight stop. 

"I can help you " You get up putting your scarf which you had around your neck so far on her wounds. "It will hurt " You said pulling it around her body. 

"I won't break "She said softly in same manner like moment before. 

"No but you can die elf or not "You speak up back being aware of basic taking care of wounds. 

She didn't argue for sometime and even closed her eyes. "Not so far from here it's old ruin of Elvish house. " She said quietly.  "Magic of mine people will keep us safe "

You nodded. 

"Is that having possibility old gargoyles around ?" You asked thinking of what is around. Your and her beautiful blue eyes meet. 

"Yes. But orgs are near we should move ' She said slowly getting up. You get up first offering her your arm around her body to support her. "Took sword you will need it " she said bitting her lips the pain in her wounds had to be bad. You known it. 

You hoped she won't be right and you really won't need your sword. Walking with her to a nearby waterfall where these gargoyle statues. You never know before it was Elves old place. 

She holds your body very hard you could feel how tensed the woman is. Then you could hear steps. 

"Girl sword ' She spoke quietly and you bite lips and slowly let her. Holding sword in your hand tight.  You could see she became even more tense her own hand still hoke sword as well. 

"Lady Galadriel!" The voice had been male and you had been so close to attack him that you had been surprise of her hand on your arm. 

"No! It's my friend. It's Gandalf ' She said as you should know the name and you realise you had hear the name connected to magic in your village. And for real you could see rather young man appeared next to you both and he supported Lady Galadriel instead of you. You felt sudden sadness. 

"I …" 

"Tell me your name girl " Galadriel said biting her lips 'and come with us " 

"N/ Y" You tell slowly and follow them. Thinking magic could help beautiful elve better then knowledge of healing. You smiled when you hear her saying the name. 

"Come it's not so far …." You could see beautiful waterfall soon and Galadriel slowly sit on the ground. She didn't ask for help but maybe they exchanged some looks with Gandalf you missed.  She started to undress herself to show her back. You bite your lips. 

"I can help " you said when Gandalf disappeared for some herbs in woods. 

She give you smile which feel so rare. You helped her undress and touched her back softly. 

She spoke in Elvish something you couldn't catch but then she moved and touched your face gently. 

"I didn't even tell you how grateful I am " you feel surprised but nodded. 

"I …." 

She smiled and lean in to kiss your cheek see your blush she lean to kiss your lips softly. You had been slowly kissing her back till you hear a steps. 

"Do you really need to scurry around ?" She spoke up to Gandalf and he just laughed as she let you all amazed. 

"No i just didn't mean to interrupt your talk " he said a bit cheeky and Galadriel meet his eyes. 

"We can talk after you help me "
