“This is a big ass speech. This is a big ass stop the show, this is the moral framework of the entire five years you’ve seen. Nate Ford justifies 77 episodes of Leverage in this speech, cause you know what? It is the last goddamn episode, you’re gonna know why we made the show. We didn’t make the show cause we thought it was clever or cute or fun. I always say this, no show succeeds unless somebody loves it and you know what, everybody loves this show and to me, what Nate’s saying here is important enough to say out loud. No one should be allowed to cheat and get away with it.” - John Rogers, The Long Goodbye Job DVD Commentary

crying laughing (mostly just crying) over the long goodbye job rn because what the fuck guys. what the FUCK.
(spoilers for the last episode of leverage season 5)
i still had so much hope for them even after hardison fell and parker got shot. i was crossing my fingers because eliot will be there and they’ll get away because they always get away ?? right ?? but then they make it the van and eliot gets shot. right in the fucking chest.
THE VAN SCENE. I WAS DISTRAUGHT. DISTRAUGHT Y’ALL. AND THEN HARDISON’S LAST WORDS ARE TO WONDER IF ELIOT IS OKAY ??? “HERE I AM”??? WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT. AND THE THREE OF THEM FUCKING DIE HOLDING EACH OTHER’S HANDS WHAT DID THEY DO THAT TO US FOR. (something something parker dying alone when she’s finally learned what it means to have a family something something eliot dies first because to watch the people he’s dedicated his life to protecting die in front of him is to die a second and third time something something)
and then the cherry on top when nate and sophie look back and the three of them are dead and bleeding out and clutching on to each other in death what do they do ??? they don’t even consider giving themselves up they drive that van up the bridge and into the damn river.
nate’s enraged yelling at the agent had me wide eyed with my hand over my mouth. fucking STUNNED yall. nate is really no one’s favorite but my god the fucking pain in his voice. 10/10. BUT THEN of course that’s not all there is to it. the switch from grieving fury to composed nonchalance was both peak comedy and absolute whiplash.
AND HERE’S STERLING !! everyone’s favorite slime ball <3 and ho ho ? he’s mad at nate for killing the rest of the team ?? they grew on him didn’t they— like clumps of adorable mold that just keep coming back <3
and finally. the master plan is revealed. sterling did scare the living shit out of me shooting “hardison” like that but of course nate had a better plan than what they believed. crazy to think that the whole damn emotional rollercoaster was really just set up for the actual break in. (eliot’s exasperated eye roll and fall at nate’s “bang !” was everything.) starring sterling as the trojan horse! an amazing choice all around.
AND !! we have a proposal !! proposals plural actually because no way in fucking hell was that not a confession from eliot. that scene was the height of romance and i will be DAMNED if someone tries to tell me that was just normal best friend shit. OT3 IS REAL !!!
in conclusion: love leverage, they have the amazingest show to ever show and a finale better than any other out there. 200/10 would watch again and i am currently penning a love letter to john rogers and dean devlin.

no but y’all don’t understand
so I’ve been getting a lot of my photos for memes off of the IMDb website and most of the photo ratios are 16:9, right? but every once in a while there will be something in another ratio
there are never any edits or anything
so WHY is there an edit of the tragic ot3 death scene in the photo gallery for the long goodbye job???
Tumblr media
like as far as I’ve seen that’s the only edit out of any of the episodes throughout all seven seasons of the OG series and reboot
the only plausible answer: IMDb page editor secret leverage ot3 truther

I just watched the finale of leverage in my rewatch with my bf and omfg that episode goes so hard. Like unironically probably one of the best last episodes of tv in my opinion.
The callbacks to the very first episode? Immaculate. Breathtaking. Stunning.
Nate's acting in the holding room? Beautiful, Sophie did a good job with this one.
The fake out of Sophie's real name? Honestly the best thing about her character.
The culmination of Nate having trained Eliot, hardison and Parker to take over leverage? So well done. Beautiful. I like it, Picasso
Last but certainly not least, the ot3 being shown throughout the episode is everything to me. Eliot dying in Parker and hardisons arms, hardisons first question being "did Eliot make it?" And Eliot comforting him before all three of them die. Eliot telling Nate that he did need something and looking over at Parker and hardison, and saying that thanks to him he doesn't need to keep searching (I'm screaming). I just love this show so much and thjs episode does not disappoint as a series finale.

I'm sorry??? What was that look Eliot gave Parker and Hardison?
Tumblr media
The softness in his gaze. Did I just watch the ot3 become canon? Canon-ish?

Sophie: promise me you'll keep them safe.
Eliot: till my dieing day.
Me *choked up*: till his dieing day!🥹
Nate: you know Eliot, I'd say call if you ever need anything, but you never needed anything.
Eliot: yeah I did.
Me *with tears in my eyes*: yeah he did.🥺
Eliot: but thanks to you I don't have to search anymore.
Me *sobbing*: omg he doesn't have to search anymore!😭

The mirroring between Leverage The Nigerian Job and The Long Goodbye Job (first episode and final) is solid solid gold.
I think I'll go cry in a corner.

Jack Marsh (2005), Friendship Otherwise - Toward a Levinasian Description of Personal Friendship
#saw carnation lily lily rose by john singer seargent irl today. it was basically at my doorstep all along idk why i never went to see it#it was placed at a corner in the gallery. me and my friend sat down and sketched the paintings of beautiful naked people quite badly. paper#provided by tate britain. she told me about how she couldnt look her boyfriend in the face after a harrowing film about war. when i say the#interview was informal i mean the person who was supposed to be my boss told me let me get you a cider and then he said after#50 years of life he knows people are inherently good and it only takes a little bit of kindness to save this world. he said he tricked#his wife into keeping the baby and then he said he quit his job at a US bank to help people find meaning and in it#he would have liked to find meaning. instead he started climbing with his friends. he said he chews his cigarettes because its a habit from#when he had to hide things from people. the entire time i felt uncomfortable and incredibly enlightened. this is my friends mentor. she has#his pattern of pauses and expletive and penchant for ends-justify-means attitude. i do think im not very clever#but maybe one day i will love you enough to make up for it. i wrote code i dont understand staring at the final error i thought about how#we both thought of how when we're too old to remember the voices of our friends we would like to stand in the pathway of the LHC beam pipe#cut it open and eat light in the freezing cold vacuum (kills you long before radiation will) the invisible puncture wound unfolding dna#back to the start larger than you ever were. you go to heaven once youve been to hell. my friend is in my bed#practicing calculations of eigenvectors by hand and she is uninterested in a visual proof you are uninterested in incompetence#we catch a train this is your kind of burden you tragic hero wincing at that word you only do this because you have to. im the only one#who can. i am a coward in this for the fucking poetry. the visual proofs. the pretty numbers. an architect who was horrible at maths wanted#to be a philosopher and accidentally ended up neck in deep in 70th Error On Visual Studio Code i want to kiss your eyes before we say#goodbye we both know there is no love in the way there should be. I still have your dress in my wardrobe. i hope you make art.#you think im alright head-wise i think you fucking hate me i think ill never be so clever you want me to tell you my idea?#if you wanted more of this world i would have liked to kiss you harder. we cant both be like this. im sorry i cant be with you the whole wa#the love is gone if you have to ask it. his breath catches his eyes feel stiff it is -1.9 kelvin he is near the beam pipe i miss holding#his hand i miss her singing voice i miss his hair and i found the antonym of pain thank you for carrying me home.

you ever just think about how the leverage writers gave us a (basically) canon polyamorous relationship confirmation in the long goodbye job?
like, they didn’t have to go that hard
but they did
parker, hardison and eliot are seen as a unit, working together in sync. there are callbacks to the pilot episode multiple times that are centered around their interactions.
and then there’s the “death” scene: aka, the scene that proves just how ride or die they are for each other. they die in each other’s arms. they die holding hands. what’s even more- the two in a canon established relationship are not the ones holding hands. no- instead, it is eliot who is in the middle. eliot, their hitter, their protector, their best friend. he was the one that was in the middle, holding hands with hardison and then parker. he is the one that reaches out and grabs hardison’s hand, reassuring him one last time and referencing an inside joke. parker then makes a point to move and grab eliot’s hand in her own- her literal last act before dying. you CANNOT tell me that is anything but pure, unadulterated love. they lived together. they breathed together. they died together.
AND THEN, as if that wasn’t enough, we had this scene in the final minutes of the show:
sophie: promise me, (looks at parker and hardison) you'll keep them safe.
eliot: till my dying day.
let's take a minute to acknowledge that literally a minute after nate proposes to sophie eliot says THIS??? something reminiscent of marriage vows about parker and hardison? he will protect them until his dying day and not a second before.
and then we have this:
nate: you know, eliot, I'd say call if you need anything, but you never... never need anything.
eliot: yeah, I did. (looks at parker and hardison) and thanks to you, I don't have to search anymore.
parker never had a family, not really, but it's been established that she knows she's not alone, that she has people that care about her, that she is loved (the white rabbit job). hardison had his nana and his family, but we saw at the beginning of the show he was eager to slide into this new found family of his. he cares deeply, loves deeply. and now, at the end of eliot's arc, he admits that all that time, he was missing something. he looks at parker and hardison and states with conviction that he doesn't have to search anymore.
they all have what they were missing at the beginning of the show- each other.

What is Parker WEARING in that scene? The proposal scene in the Long Goodbye Job. I wonder if it's supposed to be like, her own White Knight/Black King visual except for her it's like, sleek Mastermind black + Alice White cute cause that's kind of where her more social/emotional side develops?
