📣🎉TOMORROW📣🎉 My latest digital exhibition, 'By The Cut of Their Cloth', curated with @themixedmuseum launches Weds 15th June! Part of @brentmuseumandarchives @brentcultureservice @brentcouncil #BeingBrent programme, it explores Brent's rich multicultural and mixed-race histories. @heritagefunduk @tnluk @nationallotterygoodcauses Spanning 300 years of Brent’s #MixedRace and #Multicultural #History through the lenses of #art #photography and #fashion, ‘By The Cut of Their Cloth’ (BTCOTC) is an exhibition curated by local #artist and #designer, Warren Reilly (BA Hons) and The Mixed Museum. Inspired by Warren Reilly's 2018 dissertation, ‘Pageboys to protégés’ and Dr Chamion Caballero’s interest in the unnamed sitters in the Petersen Collection at Glamorgan Archives, BTCOTC explores Brent’s rich multicultural and mixed-race histories. In particular, it continues in the tradition of the #Brent2020: #londonboroughofculture project ‘Fashioning our History’ by using fashion as a lens to look at marginalised #socialhistories. We have been thrilled by the interest shown in the project since its start and we are delighted to now be able to share the wonderful #material we have #collected with you. We hope that the #images and #familyhistories #uncovered by the project, as well as the outputs created, will help us all think about how we can open up and enrich Britain’s archives – whether #local or #national – so that a wider and fuller range of the family histories that make up #Britishhistory can inform us and be enjoyed by us all, now and in the future. We hope that BTCOTC will not only help bring attention to Brent's long history of #racialmixing but also show that the histories of ‘#ordinarypeople‘ are just as fascinating and valuable a resource as the stories of more well-known or #influential #people who are typically included in #archive and #museum #collections. 🎉📣BTCOTC ONLINE EXHIBITION LAUNCHES WEDNESDAY 15TH JUNE 📣🎉 📸 Featuring photography by @nadianervoprojects wearing @simonerocha_ 📸 BTCOTC CREATED BY @themixedmuseum @wr.designs_ @wr.fineart FUNDED BY @nationallotterygoodcauses @heritagefunduk @tnluk SUPPORTED BY @brentmuseumandarchives (at London Borough of Brent) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeyvnkXNSqc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It's been a damn good weekend for food 1. My faaaaaavourite lime and poppyseed cake from @today_bread while waiting for I, Tonya to start. 2. Pork belly and miso hollandaise (excuse me how do I make this) Eggs Benedict from new discovery @woodstcoffee 3. Seafood bibimbap from @bibimbapcharst with @memz_x whilst sat next to to the most awkward "date" EVER 4. A beautiful (decaf) cappucinno from @woodstcoffee (ok I totally stole that coffee picture from my PIC @the_left_is_eating_itself but trust me that my cappuccino was just as beautiful) I also ate bloody Mary popcorn chicken (that I coated in gochujang because I'm developing a gochujang problem and I'm a garbage person) from @thedukee17 but I was hungry (how Becky HOW) and it was dark so I didn't take a picture but shoutout to their lovely staff! . . . #awesomestow #walthamstow #londonboroughofculture #foodculture #londoneats #londonfoodies #brunch #londonbrunch #koreanfood #bibimbap #seafood #date #dateday #datenight #bibimbapcharlottestreet #woodstreetcoffee #woodstcoffee #cappuccino #porkbelly #eggsbenedict #cake #walthamstowparade #todaybread #poppyseedcake (at London Borough of Waltham Forest)

We had SO MUCH FUN following @elyseblackshaw and her TEXT IN FASHION workshop which was hugely successful! Thank you so much for giving us your time and expertise! . In this workshop participants were introduced to illustrator @elyseblackshaw where they learned about her experience as an illustrator and how she uses text within her work to talk about fashion and the environment. Participants were guided in Understanding how text is used in fashion and we're encouraged to Experiment with colourful and playful techniques as well as Learning the technique of ‘Free Writing'. . The key element of this workshop was to understand the connection between written text and fashion. At first thought writing and fashion appear to be very distant, yet they work harmoniously together. Elyse introduced our participants to different techniques, such as free writing (writing without judgement), mark making, and 3D crafting. These processes allow you to write and create without fear and encourage self-expression. . #brent2020 #brent #boroughofcultures #londonboroughofculture #mylocalculture #culture #arts #london #community #heritage #thisistheboroughofcultures #2020CultureFund #fashion #design #warrenreilly #fashioningourhistory #fohbrent #history #fashionhistory #youngpeople #youth #community #art #artprogramme #edcuation #fashionillustration #brentlibraries #willesdengreenlibrary (at London Borough of Brent) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLorXvggejl/?igshid=1q6it2owmt8v0

What should I do with my wallpaper samples and scrap fabrics? Look no further @rsrillustration has the awnsers! Using samples from @bm_stores she has created a series of illustrations demonstrating one use of reusing found resources to unleash your creativity. . Inspired by the 18th century, @viviennewestwood and digital abstraction, various checks and tartans are cut into strips and stuck down to create a new pattern/Artwork, applying this to a ballgown structure. You can use these techniques in tomorrow's workshop with @elyseblackshaw! . #brent2020 #brent #boroughofcultures #londonboroughofculture #mylocalculture #culture #arts #london #community #heritage #thisistheboroughofcultures #2020CultureFund #fashion #design #warrenreilly #fashioningourhistory #fohbrent #history #fashionhistory #youngpeople #youth #community #art #artprogramme #edcuation #fashionillustration #brentlibraries #willesdengreenlibrary (at London Borough of Brent) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLZQh6-ALT4/?igshid=tp2uol3lma3o

Congratulations to Chloe Aaliyah Aged 18 of @mcrschart @mcrfashioninstitute @manmetuni for obtaining a place on the @foh.brent Programme! . “Everything I create in fashion has a purpose and meaning. It raises awareness on topics that are I consider are “brushed under the rug”. In this decade we lose touch of fashion, in particular, what we are buying and where we are buying it from. My work always shows a process and a context around the garment you wear and how it's worn. For all ages, for all skin tones, for all sizes. My materials are recycled, sustainable, and reused. It adds meaning and detail to my garments that no store-bought fabric and pattern can create. My favourite process of working on a garment is the research and collection of data, resources, and materials. Collecting second-hand means you get odd shapes and textures in what you find which turns the process into an adventure of what the final product will be. Being sustainable is so important especially in our fashion industry with over 92 million tons of waste being created we need new designers with new ideas to change the game for our future generations.” . #brent2020 #brent #boroughofcultures #londonboroughofculture #mylocalculture #culture #arts #london #community #heritage #thisistheboroughofcultures #2020CultureFund #fashion #design #warrenreilly #fashioningourhistory #fohbrent #history #fashionhistory #youngpeople #youth #community #art #artprogramme #edcuation #fashionillustration #brentlibraries #willesdengreenlibrary (at Manchester Fashion Institute) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLPG0kUg04F/?igshid=1fzh4e00omtf6
