Loki Season 2 Spoilers
.

It's a bit sad that most of TVA members and even He who Remains (that's a bit implied) don't really know about O.B., that he works alone, don't seem to know his name and no one seems to visit him.

It's kind of sad ... for however much they tried to shove Sylvie down our combined throats, they clearyl had NO confidence in her as a character
Or why else is there only one after credits scene in the entire show and it is the one where we IMMIDIATELY AFTER HIS DEATH learn that Loki isn't actually dead
As if they weren't sure anyone woud come back to watch next week if there wasn't at least some Tom Hiddleston
(Lokis atendance on that show is a bit spotty ... not that I fault him for that ... with a character arc like that I would have literally phoned in my part ... from the bathroom ... but that is a differet discussion ... )
The only more pathetic display of showrunners knowing exactly what kind of third rate wastepaper they are peddling to the audience is the first episode with Colin Baker as teh Doctor where they let him lierally say: "I am the Doctor, whether you like it or not."

Got the latest "Rings of Power" season 2 spoilers from Fellowship of Fans today but starting out with actual news about the show in general and when it'll likely air!!! :D
Tumblr media
Amazon is planning to have the show be done in post-production by June 2024. This indicates a fall 2024 release as compared to season one they finished post-production in May and it started airing in September. Most of us have been thinking it'll be fall of 2024 due to multiple factors with the strikes, no promotion so far this year, skipping both major Comic Cons in San Diego and New York, and then Amazon also having their other popular fantasy series "The Wheel of Time" and not wanting these two shows to compete against each other. I've seen others speculate too it's likely now both these shows will air in opposite years to avoid this as 2021 was s1 of "WoT", last year was "TROP", this year was s2 of "WoT", 2024 will be s2 of "TROP, 2025 s3 of "Wot", 2026 s3 of "TROP", and so on. So likely "TROP" will be at both SDCC and NYCC next year too.
Now onto the major spoilers!!! :D
The first scoop was that Charlie Vickers and the actor playing what FOF called the "Original Form" but is likely Annatar filmed a very important scene together that the showrunners were present for. This was filmed before the writers strike happened in May too and the showrunners insisted on being present for this scene. In the YouTube video the FOF's hosts all think this scene is likely either showing either Halbrand/Sauron turning into Annatar in front of Adar before going to Eregion and the audience is in on this plot, or that Annatar shapeshifts back into Halbrand in front of Galadriel and Celeborn in the season finale battle shocking not only them but the audience which was a scoop we had a few weeks ago. :)
FOF clarified too in the YT vid that this scene is not a flashback. Also they insisted again that there's no indication that this Annatar actor is staying past this storyline and is only a recurring guest-star compared to Charlie being a series regular and the main actor as Sauron for the rest of the series. Supposed the Annatar storyline is also only in episodes 6-8 at the most. Though was funny hearing in the YT vid the hosts compare this to "Sailor Moon" transforming. LOL But realistically they think like myself that it'll be similar to how we've seen other shapeshifters like Loki, Mystique, Martian Manhunter, and more do it on-screen in live-action shows and movies.
Then the final scoop was that Círdan will make his debut in the season 2 premiere!!! :D I didn't think he would show up that early but excited for it. Very curious as to how as supposedly the premiere is Sauron centric but this could still work too to show Círdan. In the YT vid they also talked more about him and if his story will connect with the other elves and if he'll get his ring Narya this early or later, and if this will tie into the storyline with The Stranger (possibly Gandalf) and Nori as we've had very little spoilers on their storyline besides them filming in Spain. Still don't know Círdan's actor yet either but again excited to see how this plays out.

so... the first gif is from avengers endgame. it's a recreation of the same timeframe seen in the other two gifs, from the first avengers movie.
i really struggle with accepting the poor quality of this recreation. the only physical difference is that the gag LOKI is wearing is a CGI addition in joss's movie; but in endgame, tom is actually wearing a costume prop.
list of issues with the endgame shot:
the gag is more rounded at the chin, and is positioned too low on the back of the neck. it's right under his ear in avengers.
LOKI's hairline is completely wrong; his temples are missing that natural zigzag of tom's own hair, and there is too much hair either side of his peak.
the wig is too short overall and poorly styled; layers lengths do not match the 2012 original. it looks like a greased wig just plopped on his head, whereas in avengers it is much better quality and its application blended with tom's own hair makes it seem natural.
sfx makeup is a little heavy-handed compared to the outdoor shots. remember these two scenes would be moments apart in avengers LOKI's life... except that in endgame, thor never has the chance to escort him outside.
lighting is bad... dark and uneven (however it's an indoor shot compared to overcast skies outdoors so that can maybe be excused).
his armour is different - but it is not clear at what point in the story LOKI changes from his formal battle armour to his lite version; since in the original movie he's wearing the former when he's hulk-smashed, but the latter when thor takes him back to asgard. so that's not necessarily a continuity fault.
tom is overacting, more with the persona of ragnarok LOKI than avengers LOKI. too obvious/dramatic with the eyerolls and head shaking. too much pantomime in his movements. OG LOKI is subtle, controlled, and still. and this is supposed to be OG LOKI. i mean, just look at him in that third gif. even bound and gagged he is very definitely a menacing and dangerous individual. not a comedian.
...
of course... all this is before the series arrived and really showed us how low marvel can sink in terms of continuity, quality, and attention to detail...

My longest ever fic is at last complete! Here's the final chapter, which unlike most of the others does not contain any porn, but it's not exactly 'wholesome' either. But if you made it through the chapter where someone got stabbed then I reckon you can cope with this one too.
Am posting this today (rather than on Friday as I previously intended) for reasons that are explained in the endnotes (don't read those first though or you'll get spoilered for the ending).
Title: An Heir And A Spare (The Extended Version) (Chapter 8/8) (AO3) Fandom: Loki (TV 2021), MCU Rating: Explicit Pairing: Loki/Sylvie, Sylvie/Thor Wordcount: ~5000 for this chapter (roughly 46,000 total) Additional Tags: Monarchies, Arranged Marriage, Consort Queens, Alternate Universe – Royalty, political machinations, bits of history shoved in with little regard for accuracy, Asgard (Marvel), discussion of (presumed) infertility, Adultery, Sex, (a lot of sex), (no like REALLY a lot), Babies, Children, Procreative Sex, Pregnancy, off-screen childbirth, Falling In Love, Secret Relationship, Kind of dark, Fucked Up, Bastards (both kinds), Sibling Rivalry, Thor Is A Good Bro (...mostly), Unfortunately Loki Is Not, Angst, Murder, Implied Knifeplay, not intended as an instruction manual for monarchies (nor as moral guidance) Summary: Queen Sylvie of Asgard is determined to gain influence in the monarchy she married into, and her best bet lies in providing an heir (and for preference a spare as well) for the royal family. Unfortunately, her husband hasn’t been much help on that front. Even more unfortunately, his brother just might be. On paper it’s only a half-terrible plan, but one bad idea often leads to another and it’s hard to keep secrets when some of those secrets have names and a place in the line of succession.

Hi!
Ok, I wasn´t going to do this again this year but then I checked my followers count and very much to my amusement, I noticed that I have exactly double than last year!?? 2200 followers! what were the odds??! So of course i have to celebrate this with you all!! 🥳
Like last year... I’m gonna take your gifsets requests from the Giftober prompts!
How to do this?
Send to my inbox the following request format: # prompt + a scene that makes reference to it. Ex: #15 + Vision´s grief quote (Wandavision s01e08) *
It’s important to clarify season and episode, bc i don't remember all, and that will speed things up. 😅
Media you can request from: Marvel. TV shows and movies from the MCU (specially, but not exclusively, Natasha Romanoff, Lady Sif, Sylvie, Sylvie+Loki) ** Ted Lasso Blindspot Good omens The Last of Us Wednesday The umbrella academy Better call Saul The Bear (just season 1! no spoilers! 😁) Lost (i recently rewatched so...) Films 2020/ 2021/ 2022 / 2023 (Of course i have watched more films but these are safe to ask. For others, you can ask but I might refuse in case I haven´t watched them.)
I´ll be posting in the correspondent day of the prompt.
Be sure to check this post before asking, bc I’ll be updating the image below as the prompts are taken. At the same time if you see the prompt you asked crossed here is bc I got it.
In case i have 2 or more requests for the same prompt, the first in my inbox gets priority and I will contact the rest to give them a chance to change it.
Tumblr media
(3 first are out already bc I started to make sets ahead for the challenge.)
Thank you!!💖
*No, you can´t ask this one now, sorry 😜
** Except Doctor Strange. Not bc i don’t like him, but bc i keep his content in my main blog. The Marvel Netflix shows are out too. I haven’t watch those. There are other exceptions, but I’ll let you know if the occasion arises.😁

TheAwkwardAnglophile's Year in TV shows: 2022
It seems I've started a tradition, and even though I know only very few people will actually see or read this, it's still fun to put together. This is my third time doing this. Feel free to check out my lists for 2021 and 2020 as well.
My criteria for shows making the list is the show either aired new content in 2022, or I'd never watched it before. So, while I did several rewatches, those didn't count. Also, beware: SPOILERS ABOUND! Here's the list in alphabetical order:
Abbott Elementary: What a perfect little sitcom that just stormed onto the scene after so many beloved sitcoms had gone off the air the last few years. They deserve all the accolades! It is genuinely hilarious. Ava probably makes me laugh harder than any of them, and of course I'm here for Janine and Gregory.
Andor: Holy crap, I was not expecting to be drawn into this show as much as I was. What a brilliant deep dive into the Star Wars universe. So many layers and subtleties to it. Luthen's monologue BLEW ME AWAY, and I looooved the prison escape. You get such a better understanding of how terrifyingly far the Empire's reach went.
Baymax: I was expecting a full-blown series, so I was very disappointed to find only 6 short episodes that were only a few minutes long. However, it was more Baymax, which is always a good thing. I think my favorite was the episode Kiko, which had Mrs. Kim from Gilmore Girls (Emily Kuroda)!
Blockbuster: I know it got cancelled, but I actually kind of enjoyed it. It wasn't the best, but it had potential. There were a few genuinely funny moments for me, and I think the episode where they do inventory was my favorite.
The Book of Boba Fett: Ok, so I know there are a lot of Fett fans out there from the past 40 years, but I'm indifferent to Boba. But I found a lot to enjoy in this show. I liked watching Boba connect with the Tusken Raiders. However, the pacing and structure were terrible, Fennec was underutilized, and the Mos Espa "power rangers" left me scratching my head. The BEST PART of it all was the Mandalorian season 2.5 they snuck in there! Watching Grogu with Luke, seeing what Mando had been up to, and the most beautiful father/son reunion!! MY HEART. Sorry you got sidelined in your own show, Boba, but the Mando eps were WIZARD.
Call Me Kat: I'm still watching, still enjoying, but this show is kind of a mixed bag sometimes. I was not happy with how everything went down with Oscar. He was such a sweetheart! Am I happy Kat and Max have become a couple? Yeah, I guess, but I think it could've been done differently. Also, it won't be the same now without the lovely Leslie Jordan, RIP.
Derry Girls: Loved the final season. It's so quirky and fascinating and hilarious. The parents' high school reunion was absolute GOLD.
Dream Home Makeover: It's definitely one of those shows that you question why you're watching, yet you can't turn away. I don't want to like it. The couple is just odd together sometimes, and everything was shown out of order! One minute she was pregnant and then she wasn't, but then they'd go back to her being pregnant!
Emily in Paris: Season 3 was pretty good, although I found Emily a bit grating. I was worried they were going to make the whole season about her shenanigans working for both companies, but thankfully that got resolved quickly. Luc is still such a delight, and Sylvie has even grown on me. Gabriel and Alfie are still 🔥🔥.
Hawkeye: I watched this at the beginning of '22, so it's a bit fuzzy now, but it was enjoyable. Not quite at the level of some of the other Marvel shows (like Loki or Wandavision) but still pretty fun.
History 101: A fascinating little documentary series! I was hooked. Each episode was about a very specific topic and was brilliantly done.
Home Economics: This sitcom is pretty fun. I've always loved Topher Grace (although oddly enough I never watched That 70's Show 🙈), and he still nails awkward comedy. All the family dynamics are fun to watch, the kids are cute. And the Spiderman joke when they were at Disneyland had me ROLLING.
The Home Edit: I devour these episodes whenever they drop, and then I want to revamp my entire house, and life. I love organization, plus Joanna and Clea make everything fun to watch.
How I Met Your Father: I was SUPER skeptical about this one, and maybe still am a bit (HIMYM fans, you understand). But I ended up enjoying it more than I thought. I need to watch the last ep again to prep for the upcoming season 2, because I've forgotten a lot. I'm curious to see where it goes.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous: The last season was wild, and I COULD NOT STAND Kenji's dad. The woooooorst. Shipped Brooklynn and Kenji, and happy Yaz and Sammy found happiness together. The ending was very satisfying for everyone!
Moon Knight: Oh DANG, what a ride. So many moments I'm like, "WHAAAAAAT am I even watching?!" But it was a fun, trippy adventure, and Oscar Isaac deserves all the awards.
Name That Tune: Always fun. I slay at this game.
Never Have I Ever: I just LOVE this show. Season 3 was another stellar season, and I am still definitely Team Ben! That ending! And the show still makes me cry, especially the scene with Devi and her mom in the finale. 😭
Obi-Wan: I know this wasn't as well received as was hoped, but I enjoyed it. Young Leia was fantastic! Lola, too (I have adopted her in my club of beloved droids). The story worked, and the Vader/Obi-Wan showdown was pretty amazing. The last 20 minutes of the finale was just a giant checklist of fan service, but honestly, I'm not complaining.
Only Murders in the Building: LOVE LOVE LOVE. This show is so incredible, and season 2 didn't disappoint! It's smart, hilarious, and I love the intro music so much. The intros were actually made even better by each one being slightly different with something related to that particular episode.
The Orville: If this journey for The Orville is truly at an end, then they sent it off well. A satisfying ending. I think the supersized episodes didn't work as well as their punchier 40-minute eps, but man, when they go big they go BIG. Incredibly well done topics, and the effects! INSANE. I swear Hulu must have kept just dumping money on them, like "Go ahead and make whatever effects you want!"
Paper Girls: This was...weird. I went through most of this going, "WHAT AM I EVEN WATCHING?" Obviously I loved all the retro vibes, and I was curious enough in the story to stick it out, but that was about it. It got pretty dark at times, and I thought the language, while warranted, got excessive enough at times to detract from the story. Anyway, if they were trying to capture the magic of Stranger Things, it didn't work, and it got cancelled anyway.
The Rookie: MY HEART! MY OTP. MY BEST SHIP AND SHIPPING EXPERIENCE EVER. My obsession with Chenford has exploded even more, as any of my followers can clearly tell. I love Tim and Lucy SO MUCH, and watching them become canon has been INCREDIBLE. But also, the show itself has stepped up its game in S5. The plots are better, more balanced, and I love all the different relationships shown. Making Thorsen a regular was a fantastic decision. The social media team has been killing it. And the show has gained tons of viewers and fans. We are truly in the golden age of The Rookie.
The Rookie: Feds: I like the show, but don't love it...yet. Maybe I will? It is done well, but it's just there. I watch it when I get around to it. Garza and Laura are probably my fave characters. I do like Simone, but she's also a lot. And I say this only because it's the FBI and there must be some kind of dress code, she should probably cover up the girls more. I swear she's going to end up having a wardrobe malfunction.
School of Chocolate: Pretty fascinating little chocolate-making competition.
Star Trek: Discovery: S4 was kind of a mixed bag. I'm not sure it was as memorable as previous seasons. I hate Tilly left. I did like that there was a running thread throughout of identity and belonging, and mental health. My FAVORITE part was how they found a way to communicate with Species Ten-C. Some brilliant television.
Star Trek: Lower Decks: S3 was ok, not my favorite, but it's still funny. My fave moment actually came in the DS9 ep. The background swing music at Quark's is actually from a band that my mom does booking for, Denver & the Mile High Orchestra, and for other personal reasons I won't go into here, that moment meant a lot to me.
Star Trek: Picard: Insert Picard facepalm here. I wanted S2 to work so badly, and be amazing, and it just wasn't. I mean it had Q and time travel and all the ingredients for something incredible, and it still didn't work. It would take too long to hash it all out here, but if anyone wants to vent with me, I'm around. I am excited (and nervous) for S3, however! I hope they don't let me down.
Star Trek: Prodigy: I still love the animation, and the kids are fun. I'm gonna be real honest, though. I'm mainly here for Janeway and Chakotay, because no, I'm still not over how Voyager ended, and if an animated kids show will let me see more of these two, I will take whatever I can get.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Before I go any further, may I just point out the amazing WONDER that FIVE different Star Trek series aired new content in 2022?! A new record! The Trekaissance is real. This show exceeded my expectations. It's so different, yet still so classic Star Trek style. The characters are great, and the intro is incredible! I cry at that intro. It's sweeping and gorgeous and ahhhhh.
Stranger Things: I've loved Stranger Things from the beginning, was excited for S4, but when I watched 4x01 I almost gave it up. It felt so dark and depressing, and the scene at the end was horrifying. I put it off for a couple weeks before deciding to try again, and I slowly worked my way through the rest of the season. There were still parts I couldn't watch (I really don't do horror, Stranger Things was always about as far as I would go, but then they really upped the horror in S4, much to my dismay), but ultimately I'm glad I did watch, although unlike the rewatchability of S1-S3, I'm not sure I can go through S4 in its entirety again. But there were some BEAUTIFUL moments we got, lots of laughs, lots of emotions. All the reunions in Vol. 2! El seeing Hopper again 😭. And my absolute favorite part...JOPPER IS CANON!!
Supermarket Sweep: Always a lot of fun. Sad that it won't be back.
Young Sheldon: It's losing steam, but I'm still watching. The whole storyline with Georgie has been interesting.
And there you have it! 33 shows in all, which is probably a record for me. Feel free to message me or send an ask if you want to further chat about any of these. If you read this far, YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR AND I APPRECIATE YOU.

Betrayed, Part 2
If people rly like this I’ll make it a series! Continued from here!!
Supervillain frowned, shifting a hand to the holster at their waist. “As easy as that, hm? I don’t buy it. If those heroes put up with you for that long, you must have some kind of a backbone. You’re planning to betray me, aren’t you? No one likes a turncoat, little hero. You’ve already been double crossed once, there’ll be no one to look out for you if you turn on me.”
Before Hero could interject the stammering explanation that they simply just didn’t want to be hurt, Supervillain struck them hard across the face with their gun in a sharp burst of pain across their cheek.
“No one agrees that quickly if they’re not up to something,” they snapped. “We both know I have my methods to keep you in line— I could have you constantly chained up or strapped down, order Healer to keep you paralyzed until we build a bit of trust between us, break your legs so we have six  uninterrupted weeks to see where your loyalty lies—  I’d rather cut to the chase. You’re one to do so, I’ve noticed. Not like Superhero with their useless monologues.”
Hero shook their head weakly, trembling against the chains that bound them. It was too late to beg now, and they knew it. There was nothing else to do but hope the villain would make it quick.
“So I’m assuming a show of power might be best, nothing more,” Supervillain continued. “You’ve never been up against me alone, little Hero. I won’t hurt you if you become my protege, but you must understand my hesitance. For all I know, you could be a spy. Hell, they could have left you as bait, meant to be snatched up by my henchmen and planted right where you could get all the information you need.”
They paced the room, plucking a weighted baton from a rack of weapons against the wall. “Don’t try to tell me you’re innocent, that’s for me to decide,” they added coldly. They tossed the baton from one hand to another, testing its weight, before swinging it hard at Hero. It cracked hard against their side, right over the scar left by the healed stab wound, and Hero hissed in pain.
They soon lost count of the blows, as Supervillain rained a volley of hits over them, one after another. The pain was sharp and stinging with every strike, and they were blinking back tears after mere minutes.
At long last, the villain paused and stepped back to take a look at them. Other than the defeated look on their face and the fresh blood streaking their bare torso, they were the same— no signs of a cracking facade.
Supervillain nodded, content of Hero’s loyalty for the time being. They reached down to unlock the wrist cuffs, keeping Hero’s legs secured to those of the chair, and strode from the cell.
They let themself break down as soon as they were alone, burying their face in their hands and allowing their tears to fall in broken sobs until they gasped for breath. So it was quite a surprise when Supervilain tapped them on the shoulder, alerting them to their presence. The villain wore the twisted little grin that was only brought about by watching others suffer.
“Stop crying, you have work to do,” they snapped. “I want you to write down everything about those traitors that might help me— base locations, personal connections between team members, powers, weaknesses. You don’t know what I already know, so I can guarantee I’ll catch you on something if you lie. Give me enough information and I’ll consider your innocence.” They shoved a paper and pen at Hero’s face, then stormed from the room.
Hero’s unsaid words stuck in their throat, and they heard Supervillain bolt the door behind them with a heavy click. I won’t lie to you, I want them dead as much as you do. But they’d have to convince Supervillain with more than empty words. With no other choice, they began scribbling down every detail on their betrayers that they could remember.

A not-so-gentle reminder:
If you are a TERF, support TERFS, or platform TERFS, get the fuck off my blog. Platforming TERFS (yes, including JKR) sends the message that you do NOT support trans people. You don’t get to pick both sides. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Nonbinary people ARE nonbinary, they don’t just identify as such. Transmeds can fuck themselves, and neopronouns are essential for all people to express themselves. Gender binaries are a social construct and true feminism, true EQUALITY; includes all sexes, gender identities, orientations, races, beliefs, and levels of ability. True equality doesn’t EXCLUDE.

Trope Talks: Forced Affection
Tw: intimate whumpers
Whumpers who force their whumpees to play along with their convoluted games of obsessive love. Whumpees who hate that they find it easier to act like they love their whumpers.
Whumpees who who kiss back. Whumpees who lean into whumper’s hand when their hair is stroked. Whumpees who return an embrace from their whumper because they’d rather have twisted comfort than none at all. Whumpees who picture their lover touching them instead of whumper, because otherwise the unwanted intimacy is unbearable.
Maybe they hate it, maybe they shove down the urge to fight every time they’re touched. Every time whumper whispers another sweet, possessive thing in their ear. It’s better than being hurt, so they force themself to endure. Maybe one day they do fight, and they’re punished so horribly for their defiance that they go back to silently upholding the facade of love. Or maybe they decide that the pain is better than the sickly sweet imitation of kindness. They‘ll take a dozen lashes, a hundred cuts, before they’ll accept whumper’s touches without fight.
Maybe whumpee can’t help but enjoy it. Whumper is despicable and they know it, but when they’re picked up bridal style and held to whumper’s chest, they’re too touch starved to care. They melt into every touch, silently pleading for affection because they’re so desperate to be loved that they can’t be bothered to be picky. Whumper’s twisted praise is a relief to them, they want to please whumper if it means being loved. They’ll be hurt either way, at least this way they can be comforted after the fact— even if by the same person who did the damage.

Writing Characters with Chronic Pain and Disabilities
PSA: Writing characters with disabilities and chronic pain is great for representation, but I’m seeing harmful tropes and portrayals perpetuated in the way chronic pain and disability is treated in parts of the whump community. Abled people need to stop using chronic pain and/or disabilities purely for “fun and whumpy” purposes. To help address the (hopefully not ill intended) ignorance that likely causes perpetuation of hurtful tropes and harmful portrayals of disabled characters, I’m sorta writing a guide on what to do and not to do when you write a character who is disabled or has chronic pain. I am disabled myself (connective tissue disorder that causes chronic pain among other debilitating symptoms) but obviously all disabled experiences differ so take this all with a grain of salt.
What to do/what is okay to do: An injury causing chronic pain and that being just a part of a character, or a character who becomes disabled (or has been from birth). Their struggle is/can be obviously present and a significant part of their life BUT they must still be a rounded/whole character (background, personality, relationships, etc) if the narrative surrounding their disability was omitted. Writing characters with disabilities and chronic pain is good for representation! I’m not saying it’s bad to have chronic pain be caused by injuries for a character, including whump sustained injuries. A good example of a disabled character done right is Kaz from Six of Crows (Leigh Bardugo is disabled herself tho which obviously plays into why he’s done so well). Kaz uses a cane and has chronic pain caused by a wrongly healed broken leg. His pain and his cane are mentioned often throughout the novel and influence his life experience and perspective. However, his narrative doesn’t focus on his chronic pain: he’s not looking desperately for a cure, his goal is not to someday stop using his cane, etc. (These things are harmful tropes because they portray disability as something completely and totally bad, to be avoided at all costs). Kaz is a badass and competent character, as developed as the other (able bodied) main characters of the story, and his disability is one of many trait about him. If you wanna write a disabled character as an abled person, try to keep those kinds of things in mind (make them developed, make sure their narrative doesn’t focus fully around their disability even tho their disability can/could be a large part of their life, don’t use the “looking for a cure” trope as their whole motive, don’t present disability as a fate worse than death or similar.)
What not to do: What I’m sorta mad about is when someone writes a character who’s constantly suffering from chronic pain/disability and is written in a way where they’re constantly miserable from it and can never feel anything other than the constant sadness/pain their disability causes them. (Perpetuates the trope that disability is constantly horrible and sometimes creates the idea that a life with disability isn’t worth living- which is harmful because it creates the idea that people with disabilities can’t be happy/successful/etc unless they’re faking their disability). It is harmful when their pain or disability is their only trait and/or is only used to make them suffer for “fun” or whump (perpetuates harmful stereotypes around disability- gives the idea that it’s impossible to be happy/a successful person/etc while disabled or having chronic pain, makes light of disability.), Do not write a disability unrealistically and do your research to prevent from ignorance turning into harm. When a character is written disabled/in pain purely for whump, harmful tropes usually end up being perpetuated (the search for a cure trope, the idea that a disability is a tragedy and must be avoided at all costs, etc). Chronic pain is not fun, disability is not whumpy. If you want to write it, do it respectfully. Putting it as the focus of a whump story or as the only trait of a character, especially if you’re an able bodied person and just want to write suffering is not okay. Doing so mitigates and makes light of the real shit people with chronic pain and disabilities live through every day.
Abed people don’t clown on this post. Do not start discourse on this post.

i think the most love ive ever seen between a couple on tv is the scene with ed in the bathtub. like he's wrapped up in stede's robe crying in front of him, telling him that he's a bad person, that he has no friends, and that he was supposed to kill him and yet stede stays the whole time and tells him that they're friends, that actually he enjoys ed's company. that moment at the end where he reaches his hand out and ed rests his head on it is one of the most love filled things ive ever seen

i still can't fully grasp how amazing the romance between stede and ed is. ive said for a while now that "i want stories that have gay people but aren't about being gay" (basically i want stories to have queer people and include queer romance but I don't necessarily want to watch people have to come out and be treated differently based on sexuality i just want these stories to he treated the same way straight couples are) and like??? this is exactly what ive wanted in media. like a slowburn queer romance in a show that isn't marketed as a queer show, just a comedy about pirates that happens to have gay people. i love this show so much.

First Take: The Marvels - two out of three ain't bad
Spoiler free as usual. Because Goose would eat me.
SYNOPSIS: Carol Danvers gets her powers entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, forcing them to work together to save the universe.
Ah, the sequel the internet wrote off when it was greenlit. The Marvels is one of the MCU projects which has suffered from Covid delays the most - July 2022 initially, then November, then February 2023, July, and finally settling here - as a direct knock on of all the TV shows on Disney+ (including the vital setup of this movie in Ms Marvel and WandaVision) being displaced due to Covid shutdowns. But even with no cast able to promote it until the early hours of its release day, The Marvels has some promise, but its execution does have some minor quibbles.
youtube
Nia DaCosta of 2021 Candyman reboot fame is in the big directors chair (And also co-writer with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik) on her first major Hollywood, big budget film - and she does an admirable job turning in a rare Marvel film under two hours - a tight 1 hour 45 minutes - that is very up and down. Some elements excel, others feel like hasty rewrites, and some ideas feel a little out of place, those who have seen the film will likely know which sequences I am referring to. It is shot really well by Sean Bobbitt, as any MCU project would be at this stage (with the IMAX kit - something which must be a blessing with the film currently taking the screenings that should've been occupied with Dune 2 had the strike not happened) and of course, the Kamala character isn't the only thing making the leap from Disney+ to cinema screens, as Laura Karpman provides the music just like she did for the first season of What If and Ms Marvel.
Tumblr media
Where this film is saved from the depths of another MCU rant is its cast, and it is obvious that Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani get along well, as the chemistry this trio have is damn good. On top of these leads we've got Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon joining in, with Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur and Saagar Shaikh returning from Ms Marvel, and of course, for the first time since Secret Invasion was torn apart, Samuel L Jackson is back in an MCU film as Nick Fury - along with a few MAJOR cameos throughout the film that *finally* set off future development into Phase 5 (and beyond). It might've been Marvel's worst opener to date, partly because of the strike and the internet's response to Larson - but for the first time in a while, I can see where this is going. Over to you Shawn Levy - bring us Deadpool 3 in a state that's worth the wait.
THE VERDICT
The Marvels is a perfectly fine - not a great - MCU film that gets the job done in under 2 hours. Had SAG/AFTRA not been on strike it would've fared better at the box office, but considering the impact this film - and particularly the last 10 minutes have - on the rest of the Multiverse Saga to come, off the back of Loki's season 2 finale it feels like Kevin Feige, once again, had a long term plan... but we just didn't know it yet.
RATING: 3.5/5
