There's such an insanity in this. The fact they are taking this so seriously and expect the audience too as well. Like, people don't fondly look as product placement as something positive in movies and tv.
GotG works because stuff like 80 music and aesthetic is something that can be liked even if one doesn't have personal nostalgic attachment to it. And it is music, aesthetic and pop culture that people do form attachment to and keep in their lives.
For most McDonald is not some warm nostalgic experience people think of. It's thought of as cheap, unhealthy and more often than not poor quality food. No one attach is themselves to eat fast food chain like they attach themselves to their music. It doesn't inspire people like movies and tv can when writing their own stories.
Like, Wanda finding comfort in watching sitcoms is a thing people do. Sylvie finding comfort in working for a fast food chain is a joke and them taking it so seriously just makes even more of a joke
Yeah, it is kind of weird. You think maybe it's an American thing? Maybe they feel some kind of attachment to McDonald's for some reason, but I doubt the rest of the world gives a damn. It's just one of a million other fast-food joints that I particularly never go to. If I go fast-food, I'm buying pizza, baby.
I wasn't watching the MCU back then but did they make such a huge fuss about Stark eating a burger back in IM 2? It's like they're trying to convince the audience that this has a deeper meaning or something. Wanna give it an emotional angle? Do it in the script! The fact that they're trying to sell this so much and so repeatedly kind of makes me think they didn't do a good enough job of it in the episode and they're trying to cover their asses or something.
Anyway, Sylvie is not human. She could find those families with kids at a park or coming out of school, the McDonald's thing was done for marketing purposes and that's it.
I gotta say though, this part in that article is bothering me:
"The season 2 trailer indicated that he (Loki) is having an issue with time slippage, and there would be no individual better at understanding the problem than a person who spent her entire life hiding in the timelines."
Sylvie knows nothing about that. She didn't even know magic didn't work at the TVA. She's not some expert about timelines and time shenanigans, she was only at the TVA for a few minutes as a kid. Loki said in ep2 he had been watching videos regarding those aspects of timelines, etc so if anything... he knows a lot more than she does. But S2 is going to be more of the same, I'm afraid. Loki being clueless and Sylvie showing how much more than him she knows.
PS. Isn't this show supposed to be about him? Yet all articles I've seen talk about her. Why don't they change the title of the series? Oh right, it may not sell as well...

i think that sylki will definitely be "explicitly" romantic in eps5-6, but even until then, loki obsessing over finding sylvie, her being the most "personal" dynamic he has in the series, and the tension being one of the angstiest we have seen in a long time in the media? i say sylkis should be celebrating already. because if sylvie was a man, everyone would love how male!sylvie tells off loki while loki is still pinning for her. isn't that what the shippers live for? like, isn't that a scenario in a lot of fics? one character is obsessively pursuing the other and the other character is really angry for some reason.
anyways, as for the endgame, i'm not sure. it depends on where the plotline leads. but there is one thing i disagree on with the majority of sylkis, i don't think sylki will end up somewhere having a calm, domestic life. to be honest, i don't even think sylvie wants that, deep down. i say this because she seemed doubtful and pondering in the end of ep2 and i doubt it's only because she wanted to be with loki. i think there still is a question of "what does sylvie want?" and if wanting a quiet normalcy was all she really wanted, there wouldn't be any space for her enchantress arc.
I try not to speculate about things as I am usually wrong and I hate being disappointed when a perfectly good storyline/plot twist/whatever just isn't the exact thing I'd invented in my head before it happened. I mean I still do, but I try not to.
my guess though is it'll be the two characters either staying at the TVA so they can appear in other parts of the MCU or disappearing off to some unspecified location for the same reason. the former lets us keep Mobius too! (SYLKIUS WINS!!!)
i feel like i'm missing something obvious given the fears/gloating (delete as applicable) over the current sylki tension, because it seems far too early to say this apparent breakup will become an actual breakup, reversing one of the main plot threads of the first season without any (yet) clear benefit storywise. though TBH pre-s2 i was vaguely worried they'd meet up again and sort everything out in five minutes and then there's no Unresolved Sexual Tension (one of THE ratings-winners-slash-money-spinners of series television!) and everyone gets on well with everyone else and my interest suddenly dies a death. (generally i am terrible with tension in ongoing stories and keep getting deliberately spoilered for older media so I don't have to deal with the anxiety of unexpected dramatic twists, but i can manage six weeks with relatively low stakes. probably.)
i tried to stay out of the last Sylvie Domesticity Drama but both sides had fair points, though what people write fic about cannot be taken as proof of what they want to see in their actual canons and this is often as true for the fluffy stuff as it is for the fucked up stuff.

Dont like sylki but everyone is up their arms calling loki a narcissist for thinking a variant of himself might be a good person while endgame steve took our good captains virginity against his will looking at that ass like that and nobody said shit
steve on steve action is ok and tony on tony violence is always allowed (even though he's labeled a narcissist too). vision and white vision are allowed to grapple at sunset if they want bc they're robots and that's hot. wanda and vision even though they're the same soul or watevr is fine bc it's a love story ye they can have kids. 90% sure endgame thor and tdw thor could've smooched the depression away (just saying). nebula killing nebula was unfortunate. loki believing in himself in any way shape or form is ridiculous though :/
#honestly i wouldn't care for a genderbent romance if they didn't go out of their way to not make any of the lokis genderfluid#and the build up was terrible too??#it's written badly so the stunted awkward romance wouldn't be so bad if the rest of the writing was good along the way but nah#and then there's sylvie being the focus of the series from the end of ep2#Language!#L!#the story genuinely feels like it was made for sylvie which is cool i dont care if loki is a love interest in the series but then on top#there's wacky cinematography and notably so and the action choreography sucks and is directionless on lamentis#forget characterisation and properly establishing sylvie beyond surface level sure just tell us she grew up in apocalypses 🙄#the show just overall sucks imo#i enjoyed it a lot while watching because it made me laugh but throw the racist casting/roles and horrible pacing it's 😬#and THAT is without considering the literal queerbaiting and lies in interviews/advertising that came with the show#''it's about loki's identity'' no it literally wasn't#''loki grew in the show and these are new scenarios where loki has no control'' nice try but i watched thor 1 and 2#cringe humour too the general feel of the show does not have high standing in my eyes#i do love some of the concepts in the show though#the execution is what i take issue with#the 'twists' aren't twists and they end each ep on cliffhangers as if that'll build suspense when it literally wont (for me at least)#the narrative was not. it wasn't GOOD storytelling#i take personal offense at that#even though I plan to steal loki sylvie mobius c-20 b-15 and renslayer for personal use#not done well#im so happy i went in with no expectations bc i got to enjoy it XD#the Loki show#and it IS possible to introduce female girlboss characters well the show just didn't do it good imo
