Breaking SJM news: a completely new series is (likely) on the way !!
Last night, I came across a veryyyy interesting YouTube video posted by Bloomsbury 4 weeks ago. Although the video was mostly super boring (talking numbers and finances), towards the end, we get this little nugget of information...
[Bloomsbury staff member]: "Regarding the timeline and future Sarah J Maas book releases, which are obviously very important to us... so her next title, which is the third in her Crescent City series, comes out on the 30th of January, 2024. So, that will fall into this financial year."
[Bloomsbury staff member]: "And thereafter, we have SIX further contracted titles -- so continuing this series, and STARTING A NEW SERIES AS WELL."
A new series! This likely goes hand-in-hand with the announcement made by Bloomsbury a couple of months prior, in which they stated that 4 additional SJM books were on the way (but curiously, no further details about these books were given...)
Although we don't know for sure, this is my guess as to what these 6 future SJM books are:
2 x ACOTAR books.
Then the 4 remaining, newly contracted books; the first being the final Crescent City book, House of Many Waters.
Leaving 3 x books for the new series (which makes perfect sense, as when starting a new series, SJM is always contracted for 3 books initially).
The question remains as to what exactly this new series may be. Which leads me to... Twilight of the Gods.
[SJM universe spoilers ahead!]
Back in 2015, SJM started a Pinterest board for 2 new book series that were connected in some way; one was Crescent City, and the other was called Twilight of the Gods.
Tumblr media
On her Twitter, SJM also mentioned that she had been working on both for quite a while, and that it was soon time to release them into the world.
Tumblr media
Around the same time, a series called 'Twilight of the Gods' was mysteriously added to SJM's official Goodreads catalogue.
Tumblr media
'Twilight of the Gods' is another term for Ragnarok; a famed tale of Norse mythology where the Gods and giants/demons across all worlds joined together to fight a giant battle that signified the end of the world.
Tumblr media
Thus, I believe that 'Twilight of the Gods' is SJM's next series; it will be a Ragnarok retelling, and all of the characters from TOG, ACOTAR and CC will join together for a cataclysmic battle against the Asteri, the Daglan, and the Valg (because lets not forget that Orcus and Mantyx are still unaccounted for...).
With this in mind, consider the numerous references to Norse mythology that SJM has already scattered throughout her books:
Feyre as Freya: Freya was perhaps one of the most renowned Norse goddesses, and was Queen.
Nesta, Emerie and Gwyn as the Valkyries: An obvious one, but the Valkyries originated from, and had a huge part to play in Norse Mythology (Ragnarok especially).
Lucien as Loki: According to Norse mythology, Loki is often depicted with long, red hair. He is also seen as a God of fire, and is commonly associated with foxes.
Danika (Fendyr) and Fenrys as Fenrir: Fenrir was a renowned monstrous wolf of Norse mythology. Fenrir being 'unleashed' is one of the key events of Ragnarok.
Hunt as Thor ('Thurr'): During Ragnarok, Thor has a famous battle against the 'Midgard Serpent.' Consider the snake that Hunt is holding on the cover of HOSAB.
Midgard: is the 'Earth' world in Norse mythology.
Hel (spelt the same way): Is the 'underworld' of Norse mythology.
Further, if you looked at SJM's "Twilight of the Gods" Pinterest board - before it was deleted - you'd see countless images of (Lady?) Thor, the Valkyries, Sailor Moon, and even the coffin that Maeve locked Aelin in... (that can't be a coincidence, right..?!) Some examples below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
'Twilight' is also another word for 'Dusk'; considering the lost Dusk Court, and 'Dusk's Truth' (both of which are the centre of the upcoming crossover and broader multiversal narrative...) it matches up perfectly.
Tumblr media
Thus, I believe that the remaining ACOTAR and CC books will continue to add to the multiverse, bit by bit. And whilst they can still be read in a standalone fashion, my guess is that they will build up to a grand finale (perhaps the very last ACOTAR book will end with Aelin walking through a portal...?) and then Twilight of the Gods will begin.
If you thought Kingdom of Ash was epic... then Twilight of the Gods -- if correct -- is bound to blow us away (and, it might even put SJM's name in the history books).

Hi there once again! I only know you for a few days but I’m really enjoying talking to you and giving you writing ideas about our Mighty Bear AU! Now, here comes the treat:
Imagine Björn is on a mission into make a gift for his parents’ wedding anniversary and he wanted to be special, so he went to the woods to collect the supplies to make the gift but he crosses his way with KRATOS AND ATREUS (and of course, Mimir). Obviously Kratos and Atreus are glad to see him again and they try to convince him to return to home.
But of course, Björn is like “hahahah, no”, however he sees that Kratos and Atreus weren’t playing around and were more then ready to snatch him away and drag him home by force, so of course he runs away like Thor and his family instructed him to if he ever cross his way with his old family (because let’s be honest he’s not ready to fight Kratos AND Atreus, or maybe either of them alone).
So I was wondering how would be the chase and how would he get away from them. And of course our little thunder family’s reaction when they find out their son was almost kidnapped by their old family.
Broken Truth (Munching on Bubble Gum while reading the ask): A gift for his parents on their wedding anniversary. And Mighty Bear AU? Where do you come up with all this incredible stuff? I love that AU Name. Now, let the words weave together, my friend!!
[Asgard - Home of Thor and Sif - Björn's Room]
The eyes of the bear looked upon the words in the book, absorbing every word they could before turning the page and doing the same to the next. A very important day was coming up - The Wedding Anniversary of Thor and Sif - and the little bear wanted to come up with a gift for the family that took him in when he ran away from the family that didn't understand him. He was looking at an orange stone on a book page and his eyes widened - he remembered this stone, it was rare in the Nine Realms but it gave a lovely orange glow whenever it was held or worn by someone. This was perfect, he could make an attachment to Thor's Hammer for his father and a necklace for his mother but he needed some help.
And he was too deep in his book to notice that his door opened and another person reached his bedside.
"Hello, Little Cub!" Thrud yelled in Björn's ear, causing him to jump and drop his book on the ground and look at his sister, who was fighting back a chuckle.
"Seriously, Thrud? Did you have to scare me like that?" He asked as he stood up and faced his sister.
"Sorry, Björn, it was too hard to resist; you were completely distracted and I wanted to scare you just this once. What are you reading that has you so in-depth?" Thrud asked as she picked up the book and began reading and her eyes widened as well. "Wait, I know what this is - This is a Fire Rune Stone. Why are you reading up on these?"
"As you know, Mother and Father's Anniversary is coming up and I want to make something special for them; I was reading up on stone and rune stones so that I could make a gift for them out of it." Björn said as he took the book back from Thrud and looked at the stone in the book, "The only issue is that this stone is from Midgard and it's close to my old home. Mother has already expressed that she didn't want me traveling to Midgard alone after the whole issue with Freya so I'm going to need someone to go with me to get the stone I need."
"I can go with you but we'll have to be careful; if we run into your old family, we need to get out of there." Thrud said.
"Okay, but I need you to trust me - Kratos used to tell me and Loki not to go near the fire stone so most likely it's unguarded. Let's get there and get back before mother and father get back from their trip." Björn said as he gathered his satchel with a chisel and his sword before he and Thrud left the house and disappeared in a cyclone of ravens.
[Midgard - Near Kratos' Cabin]
Narrowed eyes peered from the thick bushes and stared at the door of the large house before them, waiting for it to make a move but it was still as ice and it would seem that the coast was clear.
"I think they might be out so we need to get moving," Björn said as he began moving through the bushes and headed further away from the cabin until they reached a slope and slid down it. Before them was a large cluster of fire stones and Björn & Thrud walked over to it, placing their hands on it.
"This is the stone. Get your chisel and get what you need, I'll keep watch." Thrud said as she turned her back to her brother as he reached into his satchel, retrieved his chisel, and began chipping away at the large stone. He aimed for a piece that was sticking out and soon enough, the piece fell to the ground by Björn's feet. He smiled and reached down to gather the piece in his hand, it was about the size of a head but it was surprisingly light for its' size. He admired his reflection in the stone's surface before he placed it in his satchel and turned to face his sister when the bushes began shaking and a large deer came running out, bolting across the field before disappearing in the bushes on the other side but it was what was in the deer's flesh that made Björn shiver - An Arrow.
Atreus' Arrow.
Soon enough, the bushes shake again and 2 figures come out - The Half-Giant, Half-God, Loki, and the Former Ghost of Sparta, Kratos. They both looked at Thrud with a glare before Björn got in the way and stood between them, making their yes widened at the sight of Björn being before them again.
"Don't come near my sister, you two." Björn warned them as he reached his hand over the handle of his sword as a sign that he was going to draw it if they made another move toward Thrud.
"You do not have a sister, Björn; Faye and I only created you and Atreus, no females were created from our union." Kratos said in his deep voice but Björn narrowed his eyes and Kratos continued, "You have been gone for months, my son, almost a year; it's time that you came home with me and your brother. We have missed and it's time for us to be a family once again."
"Heh Heh Heh Heh Heh. That's a good joke, Kratos, and here I thought the former general didn't do jokes because you should know that it is no way in Hel that I would come back to your family." Björn said as he looked over his shoulder at Thrud before looking at Kratos and Kratos again, "I have a family now, one that cares about me and trains me by seeing the warrior within me instead of just leaving me to collect dust in the house."
"I've heard enough." Atreus said as he pulled another arrow from his quiver and loaded his bow with it and pointed it at Thrud, "Either you come home willingly or I pick an arrow in this brother stealer!"
"NO!" With a thundering roar, Björn turned into his namesake and his paws slammed on the ground, making it shake and tremble, Kratos and Atreus were shocked at his sudden transformation but Thrud knew what her brother was doing. Quickly, he mounted the large bear and Björn took off in the direction they came.
"BOY! COME BACK HERE!" The voice of Kratos grew further and farther away from the large bear huffing with each galloping step. Soon enough, they reached the edge of the cliff and a large cyclone of ravens sent them back home before Kratos and Atreus could break through the treeline.
[Asgard]
The unkindness dispelled and the moonlit sky of Asgard was the only thing they saw as they stood before their home. Thrud dismounted her brother's back, allowing him to return to normal, before the two of them walked into the house, only to be met with the scowling face of Thor and the concerned face of Sif.
"And just where have you two been?" Thor asked as he folded his arms, glaring at his son and daughter.
"We went to Midgard to get something." Thrud tried but Thor's glare silenced her.
"We know that you went to Midgard, Heimdall told us you used the All-Father's Ravens to get there but what were you doing there? What was so important that you had to go to Midgard and why was Björn transformed when you arrived back. What happened?" Thor asked.
"It was my fault, Father." Björn bowed to Thor and Sif, "I wanted to do something for your upcoming anniversary and I found a very incredible stone to make a gift for you both but you told me not to go alone, and thrud offered to come with me. We had to go near my old home and ran into Kratos and Loki; they were trying to force me to return home with them but I transformed to get away from them. I wasn't going to let them hurt Thrud; she's my sister and I love her."
"Björn..." Thrud said as she looked at her brother with wide eyes at his words. Thor unfolded his arms and placed his hands on Björn's shoulder and Thrud's shoulder before pulling them both into a hug and holding them close.
"I understand that you wanted to do something special for us but I need you to understand that you are your sister are what matters the most to us. Please, don't go to Midgard again unless I am with you both. If I see the Ghost and Loki again, I want to make sure that I can protect you two. Understand?" Thor asked as she looked down at his kids.
"Yes, Father. I understand." Björn said with a smile and Thrud said the same thing with a smile on her face. Sif joined the hug and the family stood there for a good while, just enjoying each other's company.

Loki Ships
All right, I think it’s time to jump into the inevitable, since ships can make or break whether or not some people care what I have to say, and I get it. I considered including them in my pinned post, but that was already way too long.
I ship Loki with a lot of people. The first time I heard the term fandom bicycle, a friend was using it to refer to Loki, and I took it to heart (and probably also a challenge). As I said in my pinned post, though, I mostly ship Loki with guys, since his canon women love interests are often kind of shitty to him. This doesn’t deter me from the potential of shipping him with women (I acknowledge and celebrate that he’s bi/pan, after all) but the women that he’s around tend to be assholes to him, so the men kind of have to pick up the slack. (Is the assholery deserved? Yeah, sometimes. But I also like the idea of people being soft with him. And I think he deserves that sometimes, too.)
So I’m going to explain a little bit about the ship in general, why I ship it personally, and the canon likelihood of it, whether or not it’s likely to become canon in comics or the MCU or both or neither. Also spoilers for Where Mischief Lies, The Defenders (1983), The Defenders (2021), and Defenders: Beyond.
Thorki: Might as well start with my most divisive ship, though if you read my Loki playlist post, you’ll already know I ship this. I believe this is the first person I came to ship with Loki. This is obviously Thor and Loki, and I get it. I do. I am not here to defend my questionable taste at all. I am not here to make the flimsy arguments people sometimes make for this ship, like that he’s adopted so “they aren’t really siblings, so it’s not really incest.” I think that’s damn rude to people who are adopted and have adoptive siblings. Frankly, these are fictional characters who are fictionally siblings and I know the difference between fiction and reality. Am I supportive of IRL incest? Not particularly, no. But Loki and Thor are not real (and thank God for that; Loki would annoy the hell out of me). So I’m not here to defend it. I just think that they have a lot of chemistry, and a lot of romantic and sexual tension. Especially in Thor: Ragnarok. Like towards the end, they have this whole conversation about how Loki belongs on Sakaar, how he can flourish there and rule over Sakaar and it would be the ideal place for him. And both of them (at least verbally) agree that this is the case. And then Thor leaves him basically seizing from electric shock on the floor of a hangar. And then the next time we see Loki, he has come back to Asgard anyway, to help Thor save the people. And if that’s not love (familial, romantic, whatever), I don’t know what is.
          Canon Likelihood…….Unlikely.
Not even possible, it’s never going to happen. In the comics, not a chance. In the MCU, not a chance. Marvel’s never going to make incest happen, especially not with Disney as their parent company. And frankly, I don’t want them to. I don’t trust them to do this right or be sensitive about it. They will never not be able to spin it as some shocking joke no matter how serious they pretend to be about it, if they ever were to do it. And with the level of backlash that would happen because of it, it wouldn’t be worth it. So I’m just content to read and write fanfic and look at fanart. I don’t need it to be canon and it’s never going to be canon and that’s okay. Sometimes that’s okay.
Theoki: Theo Bell (from Loki: Where Mischief Lies) and Loki. Theo Bell (as I’ve said previously) is gay, very snarky and is a good match personality-wise for Loki in the novel, he walks with a cane as a result of becoming disabled due to a homophobic attack, and he works essentially for Odin on Midgard (but Odin really only calls on him and his coworkers when he really needs something, like when he needs something for his younger son to do when he exiles him to Earth). This is speed-run Enemies-to-Lovers. They don’t like each other at first, mostly because Loki does not want to be there. And Theo’s basically like ‘You don’t want to be here, got it. You’re here, though, so let’s deal with this.’ And then pretty quickly Loki’s like, ‘Oh shit. He’s hot…Oh shit. He’s smart… Oh shit. Do I like him?….Oh shit. His freckles are like stars.’ (He thinks the last sentence almost exactly, it’s wild.) So I think it’s very cute and I don’t think they got enough time together.
Canon likelihood…….Depends on your definition of canon.
Did they kiss? Spoiler alert: Yes. Are they together? Well, uh, about that… So this book is supposed to serve as a prequel to the events in the MCU. Do you see Theo anywhere in the MCU? There’s your answer. (Which sounds like I’m implying something different, so you should still read this book, because you don’t know what’s going to happen.) So at this point, at this time, is it likely that this relationship is going to come back and be 100% canon? No. Not likely. But in my opinion, how I define canon, has this ship been canonized? I generally define canon as requited affection that’s acted upon, so Yes, this was a canon ship to me. (Still hoping my unlikely Loki theories are true, though, so this ship can come back and be present tense canon.) I wish this could be an established relationship right now, but given the circumstances of the events of the story and the purpose the story is supposed to serve in the MCU, it’s not possible.
Lokius: Loki and Mobius, from the tv series. I was resistant to this for a little while. Mostly I was finding Owen Wilson in the MCU in general and interacting with Loki hard to believe. It was weird to me and I could not unsee Owen Wilson for a chunk of the show, and that’s partially what was preventing me from shipping it. But the tie fixing scene, while it wasn’t what got me to ship it, it did make me go Oh, fuck. This is going to end with me shipping this. And then I continued to resist it for a few episodes, and then it hit me, and now I’ve been bitten by the Lokius bug. I don’t remember precisely what was the turning point for me, but it was late. I think it was probably “You could be whoever, whatever you want to be. Even someone good.” I think they’re perfect together. I think it’s an interesting dynamic, because Mobius knows him so well. But at the beginning, he knows Loki from this clinical standpoint. He knows how Loki’s story is supposed to go and his personality, from studying versions of him, but he doesn’t know him. And then spending the show getting to know Loki himself. I think they neglected somewhat to show this on a nuanced level in the show itself, but the working relationship and budding friendship between Loki and Mobius is what ultimately gets Mobius to realize that the TVA is kind of crap and needs to be shut down because the TVA doesn’t know everything. Because he gets to know Loki as a person, that he’s not just a story or the predetermined events that have been laid out in the timeline by some higher power, just because that’s how Kang has decided that’s how he wants Loki’s life to go (or something to that effect). I think there’s something inherently interesting about taking how you understand someone from a general, macro level and thinking you know everything about that person, and then getting to know someone on a more personal and intimate basis. At the risk of perpetuating a sort of racist rewrite of historical events, it’s kind of reminiscent of Disney’s Pocahontas in a way. Where you have these assumptions about a person or group of people based on what you’ve been told by your superiors, but by getting to know a particular individual in that group, you change your preconceived notions about that person. And then taking it a step further into a romantic level.
          Canon likelihood…….Likely
I think they fucked up in season one. And I think they know they fucked up. I’m sorry if people ship the other thing (I’m trying not to type the ship name so it doesn’t come up in searches and people think I tagged my hate.), this is not the place for you. I think they fucked up where they were like “Look, we’re so progressive! Here’s two bisexual characters.” And then they were like “No homo. Here’s some selfcest instead.” And obviously Loki can have a girlfriend and I’d be fine with that, but making that woman love interest a variant, essentially just an alternate version of him? That feels like they only let Loki say “A bit of both,” so they could pat themselves on the back. They didn’t want to act on that. But the only woman who makes any sense to pair him with, with whom he has the most interaction with in the series…is himself. But they went with that anyway.
So the level of likelihood is either one, they realized they fucked up and now they’re going to fix it. Or two, (and I don’t think they have enough foresight for this) they knew they fucked up before they even aired it, and are like “This is the journey that Loki is on. He will eventually break away from himself, and fall in love with somebody who is not himself.” Or three, not understand what bisexuality is and be like “We need equal! He kissed a girl and now he’s gotta kiss a guy!” [Which implies there are only two genders, but they don’t even know what genderfluidity is, so I’m not confident they have any understanding of the diversity of gender identity either.] So I think it’s likely (especially the last option, unfortunately, given their track record with representation). I’m not sure they’re going to do it well, but I think it’s possible. I think they’ve set it up well for this to be canon. I think there’s some romcom story beats that are already present in season one, despite their decision to go with a different ship. It’s just a matter of how much they’re willing to break out of this mold of heteronormativity.
Frostiron: Tony Stark and Loki. I like this because I am partial to Enemies to Lovers tropes. I think the fandom has done a really good job of taking like two minutes of onscreen interaction and making an entire ship out of it. I think they have a lot of things in common, which can help them bond. They both have daddy issues, they’re both kind of spoiled, and a little self-centered, which can cause some conflict that will eventually be resolved. And they both have quite a bit of trauma that’s ultimately caused by the same big purple asshole, so that can also bring them closer together. I have a lot of feelings about them, which has caused me to write a six-part series about them and their relationship and how they can relate to each other. (I’ve attempted a few times to write a seventh part, so we’ll see if that ever sees the light of day, but they have certainly not relinquished their hold on me.)
          Canon Likelihood…….Not likely.
Absolutely not likely, not a chance. Comics, no. MCU, no. In the MCU they had like a two-minute interaction and that was it. It was cute, they were snarking at each other, Tony offered him a drink, but that was about it. In the comics, they have a little bit more interactions but it’s still very limited. The most I know about their interactions in the comics that are not antagonistic comes from (I believe) The God Who Fell to Earth, and there’s still not a whole lot. There is some explicit dialogue of Tony respecting Loki’s pronouns, so that’s chill. Tony knows that Loki’s genderfluid, so I like that. But again, that’s about it. Ultimately, the places were Tony and Loki have the most interaction are in Avengers Academy, the mobile game, and I don’t believe there are romance options for anybody in that game (I didn’t play that game for very long, so I don’t remember much; there was too much multitasking and it was stressing me out). And in the animated tv show Avengers Assemble, and even there it was only like an episode or two. (And in later seasons, Tony isn’t even in much of the show, let alone Loki.) So I don’t think it’s likely we’ll ever see a canon frostiron, unless we get like an episode (or issue) of What If that’s like, “What If…Tony Stark was gay” or something, but that’s both unlikely and I can think of several characters more likely to be Tony’s What If boyfriend before Loki.
Cloudki: This is a ship name I made up on the spot, because no one else knows who this character is. (And that hurts me, deeply.) Cloud has a fraught history in the comics, and ultimately, it’s not much of a history at all, they’re in maybe three stories since their debut in 1983. Cloud is basically the personification of a cloud nebula (hence why they’re called Cloud), and they’re genderfluid! Primarily because, when they made their debut in the eighties, they crash landed to earth and then their essence combined with the dying souls of this straight couple whose car they crashed into. And the essence of the star lost their memory and decided to take on the couple’s likeness and sort of absorb their souls so they could survive on earth. And the comic, while weirdly progressive for the time, was still published in the eighties. So you have to get past the Comics Code Authority or whatever it’s called (which is basically censoring anything it considers remotely queer), and also it’s the eighties and the author was cis and (I’m pretty sure) straight. And I’ve read articles that said he had a friend who was a transwoman, so he was able to get some help maybe (if he asked her). But at the same time, if she’s a transwoman she’s not genderfluid, so it’s not exactly the same thing. So while it’s done surprisingly more sensitively than expected, there is still a lot of transphobia directed at this sweet summer child. And they don’t know any better so they kind of adjust to this shit, so it’s rough.
So that’s Cloud’s debut. It sucks, and we don’t talk about it. But Cloud comes back a few decades later in The Defenders (this is a new run; they also debuted in The Defenders). When last we left them, Cloud had figured out they were a nebula, and people were being kinda shitty to them on earth, so they were like Fuck this, I’m supposed to be a star, good-bye. And so for the last few decades they’ve been in space as their true self. So they get summoned by Dr. Strange to help the Defenders solve a mystery through the cosmos. (Cosmos as in I don’t get this part. So in the comics, the cosmos are like eras of existence in the universe. I think most events take place in like the twelfth or thirteenth cosmos. The Defenders travel backwards through the cosmos through this story.) In the middle of one of the battles, they’re like “Hey, by the way, I would like to go by they/them pronouns.” (Because up until this point they’ve been going by she/her pronouns.) And everyone else is like “Yeah, sure.” And then no one messes up for the rest of the book. Because Al Ewing is the best. And then like halfway through the book, they get to one of the cosmos where the emphasis is like beauty and imagination and color or something. And Cloud is like “I’m going to stay here. This is a good place for me.” And they transform their body into one that they choose, one that is no longer resembling the guy or the girl whose souls they absorbed. And Cloud’s living their best life in this cosmos. And that’s the last we see of Cloud in this book. (And I almost stopped reading the book at this point, because I read Defenders: Beyond first because Loki’s in it, met Cloud, and then read The Defenders, which comes first, just for Cloud because Loki isn’t in this one.)
Then in Defenders: Beyond, Dr. Strange has to call the Defenders together again. But he only calls a few of the original Defenders and the rest are new people. And one of the people he calls is Loki. And this is right where Loki: Agent of Asgard ended. (And thank God for that, because whoever took over for Loki between AoA and DB fucked him up. I don’t know who that was or what that run was or if it was just Thor, because I never read it, but I’m upset by that author and the new Loki that trashed all of his character development. Because Al Ewing did some great things. Okay moving on.) Frankly, I don’t know what the fuck is going on in this book. We’re still traveling through the cosmos, but I’m very confused. I only read this for Loki and then I met Cloud and read Defenders. So they’re going through the cosmos and they get rescued (Loki especially) by the members of the imagination cosmos, and one of the members of the imagination cosmos is still Cloud. This is similar to MCU Frostiron, because Cloud and Loki have a very important conversation towards the end, but that’s about the extent of their interaction.
My reason for shipping these two (since this post is long as fuck, as usual), because I know nothing about Cloud and Cloud is known by nobody but I would die for Cloud I love them so much, is that they’re both genderfluid. And I think gf4gf is a great pairing honestly (I’m not super interested in a relationship myself anymore, but I think the only partner I’d want at this point would also be genderfluid, so I’m projecting a tad). And I think they would be great for each other and I love it. I think Cloud could really help the present Loki come back to himself and deal with these memories that AoA Loki wiped from him so that he could be this stupid Loki that doesn’t have any of the character development, that at the eleventh hour of this book (I think) regained all his memories and now has to deal with it all and defend the cosmos. And also, where the hell is Verity? Ya know? Like, does he remember Verity? How much did he forget? So I think Cloud would be a good help to rehabilitate him and then they fall in love.
Canon likelihood…….Not completely unlikely, things have to happen.
I’m not gonna straight up say unlikely, because things happen in comics all the time. And comics go back and fold in on themselves and change things all the time. So I’m gonna say probably not likely, but maybe. Here are the things that are gonna have to happen in order for this to take place: One, Cloud needs to come back. I think the last time they showed up was in Defenders: Beyond, and that came out last year. Preferably, Al Ewing needs to write Cloud, because Al Ewing is the best and I love him. Two, Loki from Agent of Asgard needs to come back. Loki as it is needs to regain his memories and become the perfect version of himself again. Preferably written by Al Ewing, because Al Ewing is the best and I love him. Three, Cloud and Loki need to be in the same comic at some point. They’re two completely different characters, drawn together by the ties of fate and tarot cards that, for some reason, Dr. Strange has. And also the cosmos (because he didn’t draw Cloud’s tarot in Defenders: Beyond). Therefore, it’s difficult to get them back together, because Cloud isn’t even in this cosmos right now, let alone on the planet, and Loki doesn’t even remember meeting them. Four, Cloud has to have some romantic capabilities. I don’t know what their romantic capabilities are. In their original run, they tried to fall in love with Moondragon, and then also with some other guy (I don’t remember his name). That dude was transphobic as fuck. Moondragon, the second she found out Cloud was genderfluid, became transphobic as fuck, because it was the eighties, and neither of these characters were gay yet. So did that turn Cloud off to romance forever? That was also before Cloud realized they were a cloud nebula; did Cloud realizing that they are technically supposed to be an insentient celestial being turn Cloud off to romance forever? I don’t know. Five, even if Cloud has some capacity of romantic inclination, Cloud and Loki have to be attracted to each other. They have the tiniest of interactions ever, so who’s to say? Certainly not me, except in my fanfictions, which I haven’t written yet, because I don’t know enough about Cloud. So possibly, but unlikely. And that makes me sad.
This is the only ship, besides Lokius, where if it doesn’t become canon, I’m going to be a Victorian heroine wasting away on my fainting couch, because I’m very disappointed.

To Have & To Hold (Loki x OFC) Chapter 70
Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
Chapter 70
“Gamma!”
Before they could stop her, Madison was rushing into the room towards a slightly startled Frigga. As soon as she registered the visitors, her smile returned to her face, and she knelt down as her granddaughter ran towards her.
“Oh, darling girl! Grandma has missed you so very much!”
Loki noticed his mother’s smile faulter slightly as she looked past the little girl in her arms towards them.
“Mommy said you and Uncle Tor get wots of hugs and kisses from Maddie.”
Jessica’s eyes began to glisten as her mother-in-law’s lip trembled slightly and she scrambled to recover. Thor looked up at her from his place beside Frigga and tried to smile at his brother and sister-in-law as a sign of thanks.
“That is very sweet of Mommy to tell you to do that, my sweet Madison. You certainly give the best hugs and kisses.”
Madison dove out of her arms towards Thor when he reached out for his turn. He tossed her up in the air and squeezed her tightly as they whispered secrets back and forth. Jessica returned her focus to Frigga who was hugging Loki and giving him a kiss on his cheek before staring into his face, obviously showing how much she had missed him while he had been back on Midgard. Her smile seemed to brighten as she turned her attention to her daughter next. Once she had pulled her in tight, she leaned towards her ear to speak softly to her.
“I’m pleased to see you happy again, daughter.”
When they pulled away, she gave her a slight nod to acknowledge that she indeed was happy again, despite the reason for their visit. Frigga gave her a wink that mirrored her son’s that seemed to relax her.
“Bless the Gods, who are these young men in your arms? They can’t possibly be my grandsons!”
The twins both giggled at her, warming up to her almost immediately, as if they recognized her from their sister’s books with her paintings in them.
“It’s true mother. The babies aren’t really babies anymore. This one in my arms is Caden and the shy one hiding in his mother’s neck is Caleb.”
When she reached out for Caden, he gladly went to her as she rested him on her hip. Upon seeing his brother happy in her arms, Caleb decided he wanted to be held as well. With their arms now free, Loki wrapped his arm around Jessica’s waist and pulled her to his side before kissing the top of her head.
“My, you have grown so much Little Ones. It’s hard to believe they are about the age Madison was when she arrived in Asgard while you were pregnant Jessica.”
“I feel like I blinked, and they changed so much. It’s crazy!”
When Caleb saw his daddy approach them, he decided he wanted to go back to him and locked his arms around his neck before resting his head on his shoulder.
“Yes, I know, sweetling. We will eat soon and then you can go to bed. I know you’re tired.”
Frigga’s eyebrows went up as she saw the one-sided conversation and the realization hit her.
“I thought I felt a wave of seidr when you arrived, but I had no idea! It’s coming from the children?”
Jessica smiled at her husband who beamed with pride at his mother.
“I’m pleased to say it is, mother. All three children, actually. Madison’s abilities are developing quite quickly, while the twins are just starting to call out to me to address their needs. Our darling girl has even begun to call out to her mother and other members of our household who do not practice the ways of seidr. I suspect she will be quite powerful when she becomes of age.”
Frigga clapped her hands in excitement and turned towards her grand daughter before her expression showed one of concentration. A few seconds later, Maddie let out a loud gasp and her head shot over towards her grandmother, before looking at her father for confirmation. He nodded at her and motioned his head towards Frigga as a sign to respond. Madison’s eyes narrowed in mischief as she looked back at her grandmother and began a silent conversation with her.
“Alright you three, no secrets!”
Loki let out a chuckle as he leaned over and kissed his wife.
“The two of you certainly make beautiful little blessings together...”
Frigga glanced down at Madison’s sleeping form as she played with the head full of curls that rested in her lap. Jessica smiled at Loki who had both boys curled up asleep in his arms. Not long after the private dinner on the queen’s balcony, the children all feel asleep in the warm evening breeze since it was just past their bedtime.
“Thank you. I’m pretty fond of them. Especially when they are in a deep sleep.”
The four of them sat in silence for a few minutes as the weight of the day started to catch up to them all. Loki’s voice was the first to break the comfortable silence as he stared down at their sons in his arms.
“He watched over them, didn’t he? Through all-sight?”
Jessica glanced over at him, waiting for him to continue. When she looked at the rest of her family, Thor seemed to be unable to look up at any of them and Frigga was taking a moment to keep her composure as a fresh wave of grief washed over her.
“He did. Odin watched over you all, but he especially loved checking in on his grandchildren and watching them grow. Your father would often tell me stories during our quiet moments together of the milestones they were meeting and about Madison’s love for learning, just like you, My Son.”
They all teared up as they looked at the sleeping children.
“He also spoke of the progress the two of you have made in your marriage. It warmed my heart to hear it, but with you before me again, I can see the joy in your faces as you look upon each other… My son. My daughter. I know things have not always come easy for you, but I thank Valhalla that you found a way back to each other.”
Jessica and Loki were speechless as they looked at each other before returning their attention to her.
“And you, My Son.”
Thor looked up with tears in his eyes as he realized she was now addressing him directly.
“I thank you for protecting your sister and their little ones until Loki found his way back to them. I’m sure it was difficult for you at times, but you are stronger than you think you are, Thor. You did a great service for this family, and I know they both have shown their gratitude for it.”
When Jessica reached out and took his hand into hers, he raised it to his lips and kissed the back of it before holding it tightly. His voice cracked and he cleared his throat before continuing.
“It was my greatest honor, and I would do it a thousand times over.”
The comfortable silence returned as they enjoyed the evening together, wishing they had been brought together for a happier occasion.
“I see our dear Madison is still fond of the pond?”
Jessica glanced up at her when Frigga rested her hand on her shoulder.
“She is, and it looks like she has gotten her brothers excited about it a well. Loki got tired of keeping up with them and put the gate back up, but Maddie keeps opening it and sneaking them inside when he isn’t looking… did you have a nice walk through the gardens?”
She nodded and gave her a polite smile as she watched her son running around in the field as he chased her grandchildren around, making them squeal with delight.
“Odin started the garden for me not long after we were married. I always enjoyed being outside and he wanted me to have something of my own to bring me happiness. Over the years, I continued to add to it and bring in other plants and flowers from the other realms as well. I had no idea at the time how much it would come to mean to me. It was a place for my sons to play when they were young, and now it is a place that my own grandchildren adore as well.”
Jessica leaned against her side and allowed Frigga to place her arm around her as they held each other.
“I wish I had the chance to see it more when I was here last. The garden and the library was all Maddie seemed to talk about. Did you know she has her own Asgard at home?”
Frigga turned her attention away from the loud giggles to look over at her daughter.
“Her own Asgard, dear?”
She laughed as she nodded and watched her daughter picking flowers in the field.
“After her time here, she was obsessed with anything princess related. She was so used to wearing pretty dresses and exploring the palace, that Tony bought her a giant toy castle for her to play with. She still isn’t quite tall enough to reach the top floor of it, but it has an open back to it and is like an enormous doll house. It is incredible how much she remembers from Asgard, and she even made her a replica of the gardens and fishpond that she plays in, as well as the horse stables. Madison has called the castle ‘Asgard’ since she first laid eyes on it. Our sweet girl even has a doll with long blonde hair that she calls Gamma and a male doll that she calls Grandpa Odin. She may have been an entire realm away, but Asgard was always close by for her…”
Frigga tired to discretely wipe away the tears that had fallen and leaned over to place a kiss against Jessica’s cheek before hugging her tightly.
“I am so very pleased to hear that, Jessica. It means so much to me that Madison cherishes the time she gets to spend here. I of course understand your need to return to Midgard, but it was difficult to be away from my grandbabies after they became such an important part of my daily life… I have also truly missed our chats as well, my darling girl.”
Jessica wrapped her arms around her and melted into the embrace.
“Me too. You held me together, Frigga. I hope you know that.”
She rested her cheek on the top of her daughter’s head and sweetly ran her hand over her arm.
“You have no idea how happy it makes me to see you feeling better, sweetheart. It’s a relief to see you becoming yourself once again. I see so many wonderful changes in you and Loki both. I have prayed to the Gods so many times that the two of you would find a way back to each other and to yourselves. While it pains me that it took these circumstances to see each other again, I am grateful to get this time with you and the little ones. Has Loki given you insight as to the next few days and the Asgardian customs?”
“He has.”
They returned to watch Madison try to sneak over to the fishpond with her brothers following close behind, causing Loki to quickly transport across the field to block their path. When Madison’s arms cross over her chest with an attitude that was immediately matched by her father, the boys stared to fuss and point in the direction of the pond.
“What do you say we provide your husband some assistance with the children?”
Jessica laughed stood with her.
“I think that may be for the best. It looks like the Mini Mischiefs are winning the fight right now.”
When they got close enough to hear the conversation, Jessica had to hide her amusement at their discussion.
“Madison Lokisdottir, I will not be intimidated Little One. You can glare at me until the stars above lose their shine. You and your brothers will not be climbing into the pond to chase the fish!”
His eyes darted up to his wife and mother before returning to the tiny angry army before him.
“Well, it sounds like you guys are having fun. I think I’m going to just go explore the library while you have a showdown out here.”
Madison’s head wiped around at the word and she immediately lost the temper she had before.
“LIBERRY! Maddie will show you, Mommy! Come on Brudders! Let’s go!”
Loki let out a long breath and closed his eyes at the relief of leaving the gardens for a little while.
As soon as Loki had pushed open the floor to ceiling double doors, Jessica let out a loud gasp that echoed around the massive space. By the looks of it, the library on Asgard was easily bigger than any other library she had seen in both person and in pictures. The space was filled with ornate wood shelves  that seemed impossible to reach the books on the higher rows, even with the rolling ladders attached to them.
They stepped down a few steps into a seating area that contained a few very comfortable couches and numerous chairs scattered around the space for reading. One of them in particular looked more worn than the others and was placed away from the others beside one of the grand windows, bathing it in sunlight. Madison’s sweet voice confirmed her suspicions.
“Brudders, dat is Daddy’s chair. Onwy Daddy sits dere, but he let’s us wead dere wif him if were good.”
Jessica longed to see all the afternoons the two of them curled up together in the oversized leather seat during their time here. There were so many precious moments she missed out on while on bedrest. As if he was sensing her emotions, he kissed the side of her head as he rubbed her back.
“Are you alright, my love?”
She put on a smile for him and tried to push the thoughts aside and enjoy the moment. The two of them strolled through the aisles for a few until they found a few books to read and watched as the boys chased Madison through the maze of shelves that contained thousands of works ranging from history on different realms to poetry to fantastic stories of mythical creatures and powerful beings. Before they knew it, the children were all curled up between them on a massive couch sound asleep for their afternoon nap while Jessica and Loki quietly read together.
When she finished the book of poetry she had plucked from one of the shelves, she quietly stood and slipped from his view. After she didn’t return after a few minutes, he silently called out to her to prevent them from waking the little ones.
Darling?
Yes, My Prince?
Loki was amused with her response and set his book aside to search for her. After first glancing in the section she had pulled the previous book from earlier, he looked around the area, failing to spot her figure anywhere.
Where did you run off to, my love?
He listened closely and didn’t hear movement anywhere close to him.
Oh, you know. Just exploring. What’s it to you, Mischief?
A smirk slowly snaked its way across his lips as he quieted his movements and began to search for her.
I see someone is in a playful mood… Am I correct to believe that you are intentionally hiding from me now, Jessica?
He heard a small giggle from across the room and began to make his way silently towards it. Just as he began to draw closer to the area he believed it originated from, Loki leaned around a corner to glance down the next aisle, accidently pushing against a ladder, causing it to squeak. As soon as the sound filled the space, he heard the rustle of fabric as she took off into a sprint from a few aisles over. His eyes narrowed as he took off into a jog in the same direction.
The longer you run from me, pet, the worse it will be for you once I find you…
He heard a book hit the floor a few aisles behind him and he froze to pinpoint its direction
I’m counting on it, Laufeyson…
Jessica held her breath as she heard his heavy boots against the marble floor on the next aisle. She heard him stop to pick up the book, she lifted her dress and slipped off her shoes to prevent them from tapping against the floors. With him now searching for her at the end of the next aisle where she placed the book to throw him off her trail, she quietly made way to the staircase she had discovered across from her. Once at the top, she heard him call out to her again.
Only one way down from there, Jessica…
She heard his boots intentionally stomp up the steps, producing a booming echo that increased in volume the higher he climbed. As she frantically searched around for a place to hide, she heard an ominous laughter behind her.
“Do you take me for a fool, dear heart? I know every inch of this library and know your movements before you make them. You may have your fun, but I assure you that I will win in the end…”
When he reached the top of the stairs, Loki froze and listened for the slightest noise when he didn’t see her anywhere. His eyes darted to the first few places close by that he believed she would try to hide. The sound of heavy breathing found its way to his ears, and he crouched and waited.
Behind a column at the end of the far aisle, Jessica waited patiently for a sign that he was close by before making her move. The second she heard boots hit the carpet at the end of the main aisle, she bolted back towards the stairs. When the footsteps quickly pursued her, she picked up her speed. The staircase was only a few feet away and she thought she was going to make it, until she saw movement out of the corner of her vision down a dark aisle. Without enough time to react, a set of strong arms shot out and wrapped around her waist, swinging her around and into the dark aisle with her momentum.
There was no time to let the shocked scream leave her throat before his mouth was claiming hers, silencing the yell that surely would have traveled down to the sitting area, most likely waking the sleeping creatures downstairs. When Loki finally broke the kiss to allow her to catch her breath, Jessica realized that they were tucked away in a dark alcove in a forgotten section of the library that appeared to not have seen any visitors in quite some time.
“But you were chasing behind me! How did you get ahead of me so quick?!”
In the darkness, she could just make out his sinister grin before his hand lifted and curled up to produce a whisp of seidr. The sound of heavy footsteps appeared out of the thin air and seemed to be close by, but all around them at the same time.
“That’s cheating!”
Loki tucked the hair out of her face before wrapping his hand around the back of her neck, keeping her lips a breath away from his.
“I don’t believe there were any rules set for your little game, kitten.”
The feel of his breath against her sent a chill down her spine.
“Fine. I guess that means you win, Mischief. What would you like as your prize?”
Jessica watched as his eyes traveled down her body as he tightly gripped the fabric of her dress in his hand. The look in his eyes made her appreciate her choice to wear a traditional Asgardian silk gown today, as opposed to the leggings that she had packed.
“I believe I have a few ideas…”
His hands slid down her sides until they reached the slits on the sides of her dress. A breathy moan slipped out as he gripped the back of her thighs and swiftly lifted her legs to wrap around his waist, pressing her back against the bookcase behind her.
“Maybe we both win then…”
Loki’s eyes flicked down to her lips as her tongue darted out to wet them. With one hand under her bottom to support her weight, he reached up and laced the other one through her hair to keep her exactly where he wanted her.
“A hidden corner out of earshot of our sleeping children does have its perks, My Princess…”

The more i think about Osk in the Osk au, the more i think the only way she finds out SPECIFIC specifics on how her family got fucked over is because Hermes exists.
Why do i think this?
Because, one, that motherfucker is a gossip. Two, can you imagine how jazzed he’d be to stir up some shit? Just to watch what would happen while he’s zipping in and out of contact with Charon.
Thirdly, however, Osk knows him as a trickster and god of secret things.
So she literally just plies him with nectar she finds until he’ll tell her whats going on with her family/what happened. Since she can’t exactly go get a lamb, anyway.
Which is fine when he’s giving non-answers like “Hel is in Helheim, as per usual.” or “Fenrir? Still in chains.” or “Wyrm boy’s still in the ocean.”
Where it gets Exciting is when he decides to tell her the Whole ordeal of exactly HOW the chains holding Loki were fashioned. And what happened to her brothers in that situation. And that its less that Loki is withstanding the pain for so long between earthquakes his actual breakdowns are that strong, and more that’s just how powerful a convultion the venom causes in the like two mins it takes Sigyn to empty the bowl of venom out/get back. And knowing Sigyn just... has to keep tending her husband, bound in the entrails of her son, until he breaks free at the literal end of time.
Like i want to stress that Osk was 100% sold the idea that Loki was being punished somewhere for a span. He did cause Baldur to die and possibly was why he couldn’t return. This she understands. Her dad’s kinda a dick if you’re not his kid. Even then, it depends. She assumed, like every other fuck up, Odin would kick his ass and be done-- or Loki would piss off Hel by stealing Baldur out of her realm. That said she also didn’t know Fenrir was how Tyr lost his arm, she just assumed he pissed someone off. She also wasn’t told where Fenrir was, between her stints in midgard. She only found out about broad strokes things because Thor, as he does, got drunk and laughed when she made a comment about speaking to Loki ‘when he returns’. And then didn’t shut up once he was asked, obviously, what was funny. Odin didn’t shut him up expressly because she’d find out eventually, and if her anger was more at Thor, he’d take it. This was when both her attempts to free Fenrir started, and about two months after Odin had talked to Zeus.
What i’m saying is Hermes drops a truth bomb on her and dips to go prepare popcorn for when the norse pantheon next want to check in on if Hades is actually keeping an eye on her.
I’m also saying that Achilles is 80% convinced Osk is going to try throwing down with Hades when she returns via the pool. The room is oddly silent when she asks, very tersely, if she could be allowed to waive the rules of hospitality next visit from the north. She’s denied, but only because he has no context and even if he DID have context its not his business.
Which changes when Zagreus unlocks Secret Bestie Lore on his new pal and she of all people breaks down sobbing on his shoulder in the lounge because she keeps thinking of her beloved brothers and her lonely sister. Sure she didn’t know Jormungander longer than a few years, but blood is blood. Fenrir and her were raised together, though him being older was fun if only because having a wolf taunt you over a growthspurt is annoying. She got on well with Hel, because few others could or would bother to try before she was sent to Niflheim. Osk just wasn’t cast away anywhere because she was half human and Freya felt she could be useful if kept watch on. Mostly because by the time a Valkyrie comes to check, Zagreus has had his bi little fingers all over her contract of service to edit it a bit. What surprises him is when he tells Persephone about it all--because sometimes you gotta vent to your mom about your friends problems--it makes it to Hades. Because Hades does actually value Osk’s work a lot. And he doesn’t have the stick up his ass about it like he does with Zag, so he actually bothers to commend her on it. She just was too stubborn to like... tell him directly why she wanted the hospitality rule waived. And you don’t fuck around with hospitality rules lightly, especially with other gods. But what you can do is very clearly, in all future correspondence, define your home as very specifically The House of Hades. Meaning anything outside of it is Hades’ realm, but hospitality only covers his house.
Zagreus deadpans to Osk about Hades liking one of them, at least. Osk just snorts.

how did avengers loki get his hair to look like that is thanos torturing him but also supplying him with hair gel so he still looks pretty for him?
i am sending this anon because i dont want to admit i have thought too much about loki's hair in various mcu projects. earlier today i wondered whether his hair in thor was just gelled for styling reasons but then it looked a bit wrong on camera somehow and subsequent directors in the franchise saw it and assumed it was meant to be greasy and that's how raganorok happened. i support most of taika's choices with that movie but i cannot accept the idea that loki would ever allow his hair to get into that state.
i feel very strongly that based on general characterisation loki would wash his hair frequently and probably use all manner of products in it to the point where people mock him for it because wtf loki you take hours to get ready and you smell like a lush shop.
the disney plus loki show can be viewed as evidence that it was something to do with wigs and inferior styling products however one could also dispute that with a simple "no actor would let you do that to their real hair that is actually stuck to their own real head." perhaps the in-story explanation for this apparent discontinuity of grease is that mobius introduced his mischevious charge to shampoo, as mobius is quite clearly a man of impeccable grooming which now that i think about it may be intended symbolise his by-the-book bureaucratic (i had to google how to spell that) approach to his world prior to him having a character arc and coming to accept that workplace arson is the solution to most of his problems.
if that last paragraph has piqued your interest i have additional thoughts on sylvie's blondeness and what it might tell us about her character as well as how she might have accessed hairdressing products and/or services while on the run from the tva. i can supply these ideas via further anon messages if you wish to continue this correspondence.
if you somehow guess my identity from this anon message please pretend otherwise as i could never live with the shame of knowing that another human being is aware of how much i care about this and related issues.
kind regards and thank you for your time. and sorry. i only meant to submit that opening sentence but i got carried away by my hubristic nature, which i accept as the tragic flaw that will lead to my inevitable downfall.
i am fascinated by this ask omfg fhsaddkjlfhsjka
okay so I've thought a lot about Loki's hair too but most of said thoughts have been "oh my god I love Avengers Loki's hair" and "ughhh The Dark World Loki's hair does things to me" and "I will crash through my tv screen and wash Ragnarok Loki's hair myself if I have to" so now I really want to think of the in-universe explanations for his hair
first of all, I can totally see Thor (or Frigga or just somebody who's not him) doing his hair in the first movie, because that explains why it's never that neatly slicked back again.
then i think his hair grew a bit when he was with Thanos and before he made his dramatic first appearance on Midgard, he knew he had to fix the mess it had become over the last year. we see in Roxxcart in the second episode of the show that he can dry himself (and, notably, his hair) with magic, so I feel like it would make sense that he can and did try to recreate his pre-exile hairstyle with magic and that's why it's still slicked back like it was in Thor (2011) but it's different because he doesn't usually have to do his own hair (or idk maybe he did do his own hair but he had product he used for it and obviously Thanos doesn't have that in the Sanctuary so that's the best he could do)
and then The Dark World happens and he falls into a state of depression and he doesn't really do anything to his hair for the next year and a half. maybe he has a hairbrush and he brushes it before and after the showers he's allowed to take twice a week in the dungeons, but that's about it. Thor and Odin never come to visit so he doesn't have to look his best for them, he doesn't give a shit what the guards think of him, and he knows Frigga doesn't care what his hair looks like so he doesn't really care, either.
I feel like by TDW, Loki's hair is already getting a lil greasy, but Ragnarok just dumps grease on his head. his hair's (mostly?) neater than dungeon!Loki's, but so much worse. and I think that's because he spends so much time as Odin that he sometimes forgets that he needs to shower his normal Loki self, too. he probably uses that normal Loki form sporadically, and not for days at a time in a way that makes it very clear when he needs a shower (ie it's been three days and tbh any longer than that without a shower is kinda getting gross bro), so he feels like he's only been in this form collecting grease in his scalp for, like, 12 hours max, but actually, the last time he took a shower as himself was two months and a solid five or six Loki-form-days ago and he's just been too busy and too lazy to really notice just how bad his hair was getting and tbh if he'd known Thor was going to expose his ass in front of his people he absolutely would have taken a shower that morning and honestly it was really rude of Thor not to phone ahead and come on Skurge your one job was to give him enough time to wash his hair in case this exact situation came to fruition >:(
and then Loki wasn't in Infinity War at all so we're not gonna talk about that movie. nope. mm-mm. it was a Loki-free film. so tragic that we never saw what became of the main timeline's Loki after Ragnarok.
and then the Loki series happens and tbh there's absolutely no way to explain what happened to his hair between The Avengers and the show but dammit, I'm gonna do it anyway. so when he fixed up his hair before showing up on Midgard, he didn't actually have any product (duh. because, again, he's in the Sanctuary). so it's been a bit of a struggle to make it look nice throughout the movie and he's actually been using a subtle amount of magic to keep it in place the whole time. then he takes the Tesseract, and though he tries to act all casual in Endgame, he clearly isn't controlling it very well because he pretty much falls on his face as soon as he escapes. so when he uses his Tesseract, all of his attention turns to that, and he stops using the magic that keeps his hair looking all snazzy without its product, so the whirlwind of the Tesseract and the fall into the sand really fucks it all up, and that's why it's such a non-greasy mess in the first scene.
his hair really does look better when he's in the TVA and worse when he's with Sylvie, so I firmly believe you're right and Mobius did give him some snazzy TVA-brand shampoo and conditioner and maybe even mousse? (no hair gel tho </3) and Loki was living his best stylish life. and then obviously he ended up in apocalypse world and then back at the TVA and then the Void and it's a whole rollercoaster of hair destroyers and god he needs to ask Sylvie how she keeps her hair so nice through all of this commotion because he's failing at it so badly
this has been my Loki hairnalysis. thank you for coming to my TED talk.
okay but actually I'm v interested in your thoughts on Sylvie's hair. personally I've always kinda headcanoned that it was her way to separate herself from her past identity, and that part of leaving Princess Loki behind and embracing Sylvie was cutting and dying her hair to be as un-Loki as possible (like when a girl gets bangs and you just Know she's going through some shit, y'know?) but if you have another theory I would be very interested to hear it 👀
also if Mobius's grooming skills are due to his pre-character arc bureaucratic tendencies, does this mean that post-character arc Mobius (who better exist like we better get our Mobius back) will have long hair because I would simply Pass Away fhadskjldfhja

Okayyyy now that I've slept on that episode I am ready to do some good old traumamongering so let's look at how Loki's responses to his environment and those around him are informed by his trauma--and how Mobius/the TVA are using his trauma to manipulate him.
One of the ways Loki deals with unpleasant or stressful situations is to verbally maneuver or posture, to try to assert control (if he feels he can reasonably do so). We see him do this with Tony in Avengers, who during their confrontation--at least for the moment--poses no active threat; instead of attacking him, Loki talks. In Thor, Loki tries several times to defuse situations with his words, which generally goes poorly for him. But when it comes to handling stress, it's essentially all he knows how to do--Mobius is absolutely right to point out that Loki "loves to talk," but usually his silver tongue is borne out of necessity.
In this case, starting from the moment of his escape, we see a lot of talking from Loki that is not strictly necessary. When he lands in Mongolia, the very first thing he does is make a speech to the bystanders--literally and figuratively trying to get his bearings. He's not aggressive at all (which would confuse the Avengers were they to see him, but wow, it's almost like Thanos/the Mind Stone was influencing him!) and seems quite at a loss as to what to do when the people he's addressing don't understand him. When the TVA agents try to arrest him, he tries to ask them what's going on, and gives plenty of warning (and posturing!) before attempting to physically assert himself. In the TVA itself, this continues. Loki complains, tries to intimidate, questions, and even talks to machines with no other real witnesses (twice). He's pulling out all the stops, so to speak, to try to verbally establish control of his situation. He's trying to get his bearings, to assert his autonomy and individuality--but no one is listening to him.
When that doesn't work, and only when a lot of that doesn't work, does Loki attempt physical control of his environment. He first tries his magic (something familiar to him) and is shocked when that also doesn't work. The TVA is already a foreign environment, but because none of Loki's usual and comfortable methods of surviving are working, it becomes more foreign, and more stressful. That's why he escalates to actively resisting the guards (but note he doesn't try too hard once someone (Mobius) starts talking). Physical resistance has never been Loki's forte, so he plays to his strengths while he can, but when that fails and he gets more desperate, he has to get creative.
But when Loki is stressed enough that he starts to physically fight back, the illusion of confidence starts to break down. We see this continue really clearly in the interrogation room scene. The subject matter actively makes Loki uncomfortable. His attempts to deflect or lie aren't effective, and his words once again fail to control his situation or even shield him from what he'd like to avoid. Unable to escape the direct questions, Loki again becomes physically restless and uncomfortable, standing and pacing while growing more obviously agitated. The questions Mobius is asking are ones Loki does not want to think about, and that's because they ultimately hit on his most vulnerable points.
The question of "What would you do if you could go back?" while seeming rather innocuous, is really a well-disguised gateway to all of Loki's trauma and insecurity. Why does he feel he should rule Midgard? Well, Loki attempts to respond, that's what he deserves, it's what he was born for--but it wasn't, really, and he knows it. Firstly, when it comes to his royal birthright, Loki has always fallen back on that as a grounding mechanism. It's what he asserts to claim his identity and feel powerful and in control. He does this with being a god, too, and we see him do this several times just within the TVA. But ultimately, it's just words--the real power is with those who can make what they want to happen actually happen, and in Loki's life, that has never been him. (Even talking about his birthright, and the concept of ruling, brings up the traumatic events of Thor 1; and the fact that he was looking to rule Midgard, not Asgard, means that he would still be playing second-fiddle to Thor. Midgard wasn't his birthright--Asgardians never ruled directly on Earth. It was just the best he could get.) And secondly, Loki's attack of Earth was directly caused and influenced by Thanos. That is the main source of trauma that Loki is desperately trying to avoid, and the questions he's being asked don't allow him to do so. He can't weasel out of it; Mobius is too persistent, and he knows all the worst buttons to push. In fact, he's systematically targeting Loki's weaknesses.
Look at the questions and statements he uses: "For someone born to rule, you sure lose an awful lot." Your birthright is false and you know it. "You weren't born to be a king. You were born to help others become the best versions of themselves." He juxtaposes this with footage of the Avengers, Thor among them: your identity only matters so far as you can enable others, especially your brother. Loki starts avoiding looking at the footage, becoming less brazen with his attitude and responses, so Mobius asks, "What is it that you're running from?" It's at about this point that Loki stands up, trying to physically distance himself from both Mobius and the question. This interaction reveals much about what Mobius is intending by this conversation. He's not trying to learn about Loki, necessarily. He already knows Loki is running from something, and seems to know what it is, which wouldn't be immediately clear to someone uninformed. What he's really trying to do is make Loki vulnerable, and make him admit it.
Mobius uses Loki's role in his mother's death to push him over the edge. Immediately, Loki turns on Mobius, furiously insisting that the whole thing is an illusion--more desperate verbal posturing, and Mobius treats it as such--and then Loki snaps, first throwing a chair at the painful image of his mother, which promptly reforms (it's inescapable), and then trying to attack Mobius. The fact that Loki is lashing out physically means he is desperate, but even his last resort isn't effective. He simply can't protect himself. He's powerless. That's triggering in and of itself.
But it's the footage that's the final blow. After escaping his restraints, he returns to the very room he left, and looks at his life. And he cries. He's so vulnerable and hurting and scared that in his first moment alone, he cries. And just as he thought he'd have a little bit of comfort, even laughing to see his improving relationship with Thor, he watches himself die a humiliating, pitiful, ignoble death, and hears himself say, "You will never be a god"--and that old boast means nothing because Thanos snaps his neck anyway. That moment, seeing the thing he was running from catch up to him and kill him, is his final emotional breaking point. When Loki laughs and bitterly says, "Glorious purpose," that's the end of the posturing. He's admitting Mobius was right: he didn't have a glorious purpose, or a glorious anything. Which is why when Mobius comes back, Loki tells the truth, unprompted. He actually calls himself weak. He admits he's been putting up an illusion in a feeble attempt to get control of his situation.
This level of vulnerability from Loki is unheard of, and speaks to how utterly he's been worn down by the very intentional psychological manipulation of Mobius and the TVA. When Loki entered, he was actively opposing them. Now, after having been massively triggered and emotionally exhausted, he's suggestible, and by playing a friendly angle, Mobius can manipulate Loki into working with them--and, literally, against himself.
Whether he has good intentions or no, that makes Mobius a truly formidable player, and one Loki--and we--shouldn't be too hastily comfortable with. He is clearly a master manipulator, and has no qualms using Loki's trauma to break him.
But what should be most concerning of all is that he succeeds. Because the only other person to have ever done that?
Is Thanos.

Oh ho ho ho prepare thyselves, I have some thoughts about Loki's appearance in the latest What If... episode
Let's jump into this.
Okay. So Loki shows up with an (if not the) entire contingent of Einherjar and the Warriors Three (Four, really), giving the same damn speech he did during Infinity War, minus the "Odinson" portion.
Tumblr media
Okay. So Loki shows up with an (if not the) entire contingent of Einherjar and the Warriors Three (Four, really), giving the same damn speech he did during Infinity War, minus the "Odinson" portion.
Tumblr media
This isn't a mistake. Loki, at this point, damn well knows who he really is and why. And assuming that events up to this point follow the same trajectory as the "sacred timeline" (does anyone else think the "Watcher" is just Kang hanging out with a bowl of popcorn overlooking the multiverse because that's how I'm reading it...) Anyway, assuming everything we see in the first Thor movie holds true up until Thor's murder...
And that's just the thing, isn't it? It's Thor's murder that is the "nexus event." Loki comes screaming down to Midgard, apparently having secured the loyalty of all of Asgard as its acting King (he's still holding Gungnir, after all) so something must have gone on behind the scenes for everyone to start trusting him. Even when they obviously know he is Jotun.
AGAIN, HE LEADS WITH THE WHOLE JOTUNHEIM THING. Doesn't deny it, proclaims it in front of the entire Asgardian army. This...this is a very different Loki than we saw in the first Thor movie. Whatever shame he held about being Jotun, he's at least come to partial terms with it. And it's not the reason he ends up taking over Midgard/Earth (more on this later).
Loki isn't on Midgard because he wants a kingdom. He's the "rightful" King of Jotunheim, not the actual one. And he's actually quite forward about the fact he's rallied the entire Asgardian army to avenge his adopted brother's death. He loves Thor that much. (As if Asgard would deny him this. Of course not, they'd want their "pound of flesh," or more, just like Loki does.)
Tumblr media
Remember the Loki series? When Classic Loki just wanted to see his brother again? This is the same thing.
Now here's what I find really fascinating.
When Loki goes for his show of strength, when he declares he will reduce Midgard to ruins (specifically, "ash and ice") if he doesn't get the "pound of flesh" aka the entire corpse he deserves (and just...the meta of this...the pound of flesh being a reference to Merchant of Venice and Tommy H being a Shakespeare expert is just perfection on every level)
Anyway, Loki goes for the bloody Casket of Ancient Winters.
Tumblr media
Again, Loki has Gungnir, which is not only a weapon no one would laugh at, but a symbol of the Asgardian monarchy, and yet he takes them all out with the Jotunheim Casket. I mean, fascinating. And Loki doesn't turn blue while handling it, which I believe (contrary to some internet opinion) means he has mastered the Casket as its wielder. Meaning he's come to terms with his identity. Even if he still hates Odin, who may be dead or alive at this juncture (Frigga is most definitely alive, or else Loki would be having a breakdown). I find this choice utterly fascinating.
So I want to reiterate that through this entire exchange, Loki is on Earth for a single purpose: vengeance. He wants his brother's killer. He shows no signs of desire to take over the planet, to subjugate its people, and he has never met Thanos (in any iteration) because he never let go on the Rainbow Bridge. It's not until later, not until Hank Pym spills some beans regarding Fury, that Loki seems to switch tracks.
So Fury and Loki strike a deal and Loki (illusioned as Fury because that is most definitely one of the powers Loki has) outs Hank Pym as the murderer of the proto-Avengers, who is on a revenge tour due to his daughter's death during her SHIELD days (which was likely an alt-universe Bucky Barnes/aka the Winter Solider seeing as it was in Odessa and that's just an entirely different story to deconstruct).
But here's the interesting part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember, Fury is not Fury here. I doubt the real Nick Fury would ever refer to Thor as a "Prince of Asgard," and so we know this conversation is happening between Loki and Hank (and wow, I a) never thought I'd type that sentence and b) I cannot believe Marvel got bloody Michael Douglas to play this character, holy hell).
But the important thing to remember here is Hank's point of view. The way he casually says Fury would have recruited Thor for his initiative. Hints that if Fury had done so, he would have considered Thor as an expendable hero. Outright says he would prefer Fury's death over Thor's and this is the moment I believe Loki decides to conquer Earth. Because he cannot trust these warring factions and his brother is dead because of it.
And Loki wipes the floor with Hank. Think about it. Hank has managed to kill all of the Avengers minus Steve Rogers (only due to the fact Steve was doing his popsicle impression at the time). He managed to kill Thor.
Tumblr media
And Loki destroys him within a few minutes. I mean, what a testament to our deity of mischief.
But has Loki really gotten his pound of flesh? Hank is taken away, not dead. Thor is still gone, forever. And there was enough logic in what Hank said during their confrontation (after all, Loki would know about being used as a weapon, or at the very least a means to an end. He had that conversation with Odin. He will not stand to see it repeated with Thor). There was enough in that exchange with Hank, there was enough in the negotiations with Fury...that Loki directs his army (his legitimate army who does not rebel against him) to take over Earth in what we can only assume is a mostly peaceful coup (minus some frigid temperatures here and there, but you know, we can just say Loki was counteracting global warming at the same time.) No Chitauri, no Thanos, no utter craziness.
Just...retribution on this planet for making Loki lose what was dearest to him.

The MC is a Valkyrie
Demigod MC Series: Intro
Greek: Aphrodite, Hermes, Hades, Dionysus, Demeter, Athena, Hades Pt. 2, Poseidon, Ares, Hestia, Nyx
Norse: Valkyrie
A bit of a change of pace this time! No worries, I'm not done with the Greeks or anything. I just had this idea and wanted to get it out.
Valkyries aren't really demigods, but are a part of Norse myth as the minor divinities that help choose and deliver fallen warriors to Valhalla to join the ranks of the einherjar (the souls who will fight when Ragnarok comes). Valkyries are depicted as women who are fierce warriors in their own right. Despite their place as the gatekeepers of the Chosen, they've been said to sometimes take heroes and mortals as lovers or take residence in Midgard posing as daughters of royals/nobility.
Lucifer
At first, they thought they grabbed an heiress - which would have been bad enough - but then the MC grew wings, drew a spear, and asked who among them wanted a glorious death...
How hard is it to find ONE damn human on Earth? Isn't that realm supposed to be full of them??
Diavolo was thankfully able to talk their winged friend down from skewering Asmo and accepting the exchange on behalf of the human wo-… Midgard.
Living with a Valkyrie is different for sure. The MC is a proud woman who takes her role very seriously and she's seemingly deemed him and his brothers as candidates for einherjar (despite being demons).
He's tried many, many times to explain to her that they're not interested, but she's unconvinced. Now the MC watches his brothers like a hawk waiting to cart one of them off to Valhalla! Any mortal wound could be an excuse...
He's had to save Beel and Satan twice from getting dragged to that infernal palace… For whatever reason, she seems to have taken to them the most. Is it old Norse culture to favor the brash and strong? He has no idea...
At the very least, she knows better than to try to drag him into her little plans. Though he's sure he could qualify for the einherjar (obviously, why wouldn't he?) he has no interest in leaving his life here behind.
To think he'd actually have to put surveillance on his own brothers for their safety… But they're not going to get drafted into some ancient Norse war, not if he can help it.
Mammon
She’s an heiress… An heiress!!
Well, her human world identity is an heiress to a well-respected (and rather magical) rich family but that still technically counts! She’s crazy loaded back there! He’s in love!!
The only problem is that in the Devildom she doesn’t have a cent.
… and the fact that she keeps trying to get him killed. That’s also a problem.
In a way, things are not as bad and exactly as bad as that sounds. The MC apparently wants him to go to Valhalla (dope) but she can’t just take him there… He technically has to die in some kind of “vallent battle” first.
Her solution? Pick fights with nearly anything that moves and drag him into it!
Honestly, it’s pretty annoying… Sometimes he just wants to have a fun night out without getting into a barfight, you know??
At least the MC can handle herself… Hell, he was her "babysitter" but she barely even needed him. A lesser demon once made the bad idea of trying to cup her ass and lost a hand for his trouble…
Though, what this amounts to is the MC starting something then fighting alongside him like back-to-back badasses while looking for any excuse to scoop him up and fly him to Asgard!
Why does he put up with this? Well for starters human world rich is still rich, all he has to do is get himself a portal then he's living the high life! And secondly, well… what's the harm?
Sure, she technically wants him dead but he's the secondborn! The list of people who can take him down is so slim that it's not like he's in any danger. She even fights with him so things are a piece of cake!
Is this a case where he's 100% more forgiving because she's rich? Yes. Absolutely. But a golddigger's gotta eat somehow, right?
Leviathan
Is it weird to be jealous over someone not wanting you to die...?
Okay, that's an oversimplification but Levi can’t help but feel snubbed that the MC doesn’t have any interest in taking him to Asgard. Like, none! And why not??
He’s strong! He’s tough! He’s part snake too! Don’t the Nords have a thing about that? Like, there’s a giant snake they’re all worried about?? Maybe he could communicate with it!
Logically, Levi knows that he really shouldn’t press her on this… MC is pretty much a Grim Reaper with a Norse coat of paint and Asgard doesn’t really sound like his speed. No anime, no video games, not even cable! It’s just eat, train, and drink all day… Ew.
But still… What makes him an odd one out?
At best, she just knows he wouldn't be happy there. At worst, she's underestimating his skill… or maybe she's gauged him just right? He's always known he was weak!! 😫
Oh well... at least she's not a bore to be around. Far from it. She treats EVERYTHING like a life or death trial - he's pretty sure that if he challenged her to rock, paper, scissors she'd commend him for his bravery and swear on her sisters that she won't lose.
He once made the mistake of inviting her and Simeon for a game of Devil Party and they both got so into it that they nearly had a duel to the death as a tiebreaker…
Thank Devil that the game had a pre-programmed minigame for that kind of thing… It would have gotten messy otherwise.
Well, even if his other brothers go to Asgard, he can just chill out here with Lucifer and Asmo… right…? Actually, no, that sounds horrible! MC, he changes his mind!! Take him too!!! 😭
Satan
How many times does he have to say that he doesn’t want to go to Asgard?!?
Well, okay that’s not entirely true. Out of scientific curiosity, seeing the godly realm of the old Nords would be fascinating but he doesn’t want to stay, which the MC seems to have trouble understanding…
He’s not even sure why she's singled him out for einherjar status… Any one of his brothers are powerful beings in their own right and he’s not particularly, uh, “even-tempered” himself...
His best guess is she saw him wipe out a handful of lesser demons at some point and declared him Ragnarok material. He always ends up throwing around at least three of those idiots a week so checks out…
If he's being honest, her very existence raises so many questions… Does this mean that Ragnarok is real? Will the human world be swallowed up by the sea? Will the gods of Asgard fight and die as a new world is established? When??
Unfortunately, the MC won't tell him when it all will come to pass (he suspects even she doesn't know) just that Loki will trigger it… Someone keep tabs on that guy.
Until then, he just has to put up with her attempts to convince him but his patience is wearing thin… He's pretty sure he threw a bookshelf at her once but she caught it anyway so yeah...
He did challenge her to a proper duel too but… well let's say she's a Valkyrie for a reason and leave it at that. (Being saved by Lucifer was so humiliating… He's done here, move on already!!)
Asmodeus
First things first, she's gorgeous. Beautiful! Divine! (Literally 🤭)
Now that that's out of the way… She may also have a screw or two loose.
Like, he gets it. She's a Valkyrie and snapping up strong souls is her thing but come on… Mammon? Really? Why would he get into Valhalla instead of him, huh??
Why can't he get to go to the beautiful afterlife of the old Norse with all their strapping warriors, lovely maidens, and endless partying?? It's not fair!!
Ugh… and now she's got him sounding like LEVI! How frustrating…
Well, it may not be that bad. According to MC, he'd have to do battle training in Valhalla and that wouldn't really agree with his beauty routine. Like dirt, sweat, blood, and muscles? No thanks! Not for him.
He asked MC if he could get some kind of pass, but no dice… Maybe he could still convince her to let him vacation there… Or go for a visit? Just one? Surely that couldn't be so bad right?? He's heard that Thor looks NOTHING like people think he does and he's so curious!!
The closest he's ever gotten was challenging the MC to a fashion contest for a visit, but he dropped that idea quick when she proposed that they somehow include a wrestling match in the dressing room (and he knows she didn't mean the fun kind...)
As much as he'd love to get skin-to-skin with MC, the idea of getting locked in a chokehold was less appealing for some reason. 🤔
Ah well, he'll just have to make due admiring her wonderful body clothed for the time being… There's something to be said about muscular ladies, no?
Beelzebub
So she’s almost convinced him to join the einherjar like twice now…
He’s not the best at making decisions when he’s hungry and the MC keeps hyping up the food… Apparently it’s really good up there and MC says that she’s never seen an empty platter... Just thinking about it makes his stomach do backflips.
Thankfully for him, Lucifer usually steps in before Beel can sign his soul away and reminds him that he can’t just abandon the family for a meal, even if it is a feast.
You'd think he'd be annoyed but Beel isn't really bothered by her habit of trying to bring everyone to Asgard. At least not on a personal level.
Like Lucifer, he doesn't want to see his family broken up so he'd rather she wouldn't… But she's a Valkyrie right? It's what she does. It's not like she can help it.
In a weird way, he also thinks she means well. She just respects them and wants them to have a good afterlife. It would be kind of sweet if they didn't have to die for it first…
If he's being honest, he's not that worried about it anyway. His family is pretty tough, not a lot in the Devildom can take them down. As long as they're careful, everybody should be alright. 🙂
Maybe he could get MC to make some Valhallan food for them in the Devildom… Or he could get one of those immortality apples?? Though those would extend his life wouldn't they…? Oh well...
Belphegor
Belphie's attempt to kill the MC went something like this:
Belphie: *switches to his demon form* "I can't believe you actually trusted me!"
MC: *blinks* "Oh. So you want to challenge me then?"
Belphie: "What?"
MC: "Ah, now I see! You want to fight to prove your valor then die by my hand??"
Belphie: "What are yo-??"
MC: *summons wings and golden spear* "I like your spunk, demon!! Fight me with all you have and perhaps I'll take you to Valhalla! May you join us in our fight as a brother!!"
Belphie: "What the hell are you talking about!?!"
To his credit, he put up a good fight and probably would have gotten into Asgard if Lucifer hadn't intervened to save his life.
It can be said that the MC's Valkyrie-hood took Belphie completely by surprise. Sure, he thought she was a little weird for a "human" but challenging him to a duel to the death? That came out of nowhere!
His uneasiness about her only grew after he found out that she's been literally trying to get Beel killed! How in the world were his brothers so relaxed about this?? She's insane!!
So say what you will about the MC, but she's managed to do the impossible. She got Lucifer and Belphie to make up and work together on something! (i.e. making sure she doesn't send them all to their deaths)
Between Lucifer monitoring his brothers and Belphie watching the MC, they'll keep everybody in the Devildom where they belong. That's a promise!

I Love Thee
Pairing: Avenger!Loki x Non-Avenger!Fem!Reader
Plot:
First of all, a large round of applause for our darling, Avenger Loki!!
Loki and you have been together for a long time. You’ve said your ‘I love you’s, have held tight onto each other through every curve and edge that life brought you. You basically know each other like the back of your hands. Or so you thought.
One night, Loki reveals something that you had never expected to hear from him. Ever!
Warnings: A sleepy fluff, a teeny bit angst, a happy ending, and late night writing hazards!!
Read time: ~10 mins
Psst...Bonus at the end!! 🤘 🥰
Tumblr media
“Loki! Hey!” A sleep-laden voice, undeniably laced with a smile, filled the room.
Missions often meant late nights, or sometimes many nights away from the one he loved - the one he loved the most after he had settled down on Midgard.
This was just another of those late hours when he sneaked into their shared apartment- No. Their home. Although he had asked her - requested her - not to stay awake for him, he knew very well that she would.
So, yes, even though he tried to tiptoe through the rooms, just before he got into the shower, he heard his name being uttered sleepily.
She was tucked under the covers, her eyelids were drooping, but her smile was nonetheless bright and welcoming.
He was home.
Assuring her that he would be back in a few minutes, Loki disappeared into the bathroom, and as promised, emerged in less than 10 minutes. His body had urged him to stand beneath the misty, hot spray of water a little longer, but his heart had pleaded him to leave everything and wrap himself around that human waiting for him. His heart won, obviously.
“Hey, love!” Loki wrapped his arms around her torso as he slid beneath the sheet.
“Hey!” she turned in his arms to face him with a drowsy smile.
“Did I wake you up?” he whispered, giving her a feathery kiss.
“Not really,” she mumbled, “I was waiting for you.”
She pulled herself closer to him, tangling her limbs with his, while he observed her with apologetic eyes..
“I’m sorry, love, I-”
“Shh!” She gently placed a finger on his lips. “I’m proud of what you do. So, never ever apologise for anything that comes with it. Unless you get yourself hurt! That is not allowed.”
A small chuckle brought back the shine in his eyes, followed by the crinkles around them that she loved to watch.
“Hello, those beautiful green eyes in which I’d love to drown myself for eternity!”
“Someone’s poetic tonight!” he teased.
A soft laugh rang through her throat. “Yeah, I was hooked on over an hour of poetry on YouTube today. Guess, I’m drugged now.”
“Hmm...” he pecked her lips, “tell me about it.”
“I love thee!” she pecked him back, “I love thee! ‘Tis all that I can say...It is my vision in the night. My dreaming in the day.” A hand ran lightly along his cheek. “The very echo of my heart...The blessing when I pray…” She pressed her lips to his jawline, and Loki felt her voice echo through his skin, “I love thee...I love thee! Is all that I can say.”
A low, very low, moan emanated from Loki.
He placed a hand on her neck, gently nudging her chin up so as to look into her eyes.
She smiled sheepishly, “I don’t remember the rest of the lin-”
Before she could finish, Loki’s lips devoured hers in a fervent kiss. It was not lust. She could sense it. It was almost like he was worshipping her in his own way.
For how long they had been mingled into one another like this, they didn’t know. But when they did open their eyes, the look in Loki’s eyes surprised her. She had seen it before but...was it moisture that she saw in them? She couldn’t be sure in the dim greenish light that filled the air.
It wasn’t Loki’s magic, no. She couldn’t sleep in pitch darkness, and so, had decided that if they had to keep a hint of light in the room, it would be of the colour that reminded her of him whenever he was away on missions. He didn’t mind as long as he got to see her snuggled beside him...her and her soft outline, her smile, her sleepy yawn and her ever-twinkling eyes.
“What did I do to deserve you!” Loki wondered aloud.
The hand that was clutching at his hair, slowly came to rest on his cheek.
“You’re a good man, Loki. A very, very good man. And sinfully attractive, too!” A playful glimmer flashed across her eyes. “You’re a God! I should be the one asking this.”
He placed his hand on hers, the one that rested on his face.
“I’ve done things that I’m certainly not proud of. I’ve betrayed the ones who trusted me. I’ve hurt those who loved me. And this is what I get in return? You? You who...just accepts me for who I am? You, who is a walking ray of sunshine? If I’m being honest with myself...I’m scared to believe that life can be so good to me.”
“No. No, Loki. You’ve travelled far,” she whispered. “You’ve gone through a lot, seen a lot, done a lot to become who you are today, to reach where you are today...with me...with us. Nothing will go wrong now.”
“But know what,” she continued while tucking a stray strand behind his ear, “we won’t talk about the pain here. Not in this bed. Not in our world.”
A smile started playing on her lips as she continued, “We will only talk about the happy things...the things that we love...everything that we love. It will be our happy, little world! Only ours! Nothing can touch it.”
Loki smiled, too, but it had a touch of sadness in it.
“I wish that’s how things worked!” He took her hand and pressed it to his lips. “But...”
“No buts or ifs,” she shushed him. “We’ll create our happiness. We will do every single thing that makes us happy. This is our world. We will keep it safe. Nothing can come in between us. Nothing and no one.”
“No one?” Loki questions with a slight humour in his tone.
“No one!” She asserted. “Just you and me.”
Loki hummed in response.
Something seemed to be off. There was some mischief going on somewhere in some corner of the God’s mind. It was easy for her to read his gestures, but what was he thinking? Her eyes watched him suspiciously as she tried to understand what was playing in that beautifully mysterious mind of his.
After a minute or so of lying on his back, staring at the ceiling, Loki abruptly turned towards her.
‘Oddly different from his usual graceful manoeuvres,’ she observed.
“Uh...” he began, “when you said ‘with us’, what did you really mean?”
“I did? When?”
“Earlier...when we were talking about how far I’ve come, and you said...Never mind!” He ended with an awkwardly broad smile.
Each brooded in silence for a while.
“Ah, that!” She suddenly exclaimed. “I meant us. Y’know, like...us...together?” She waved her hand between their bodies.
“Ah! Okay.”
A few seconds passed.
“Loki,” she raised her brows, “you wanna tell me something?”
He looked hesitant. “I...uh...”
“Hey,” she gave his shoulder a light squeeze, “it’s okay. Tell me later, when you’re ready.”
“That’s the thing. I think I am ready.”
Nothing made sense to her. She simply stared at him with several questions in her eyes.
“You see,” he resumed, “when you said that,” he paused to lick his lips, “when you said that nothing- no one...that no one can come between us...”
For a second her mind started playing ugly games. Dark fingers clenched her heart tightly.
And Loki here was carrying on with his puzzles, “I...I was thinking that...what if....what if someone did come between us? Like in a good way. Like, you know, making our bond stronger? I mean...you know what I mean?”
Suddenly, the ticking of the large wall clock from the living room seemed to engulf the house in the most uncomfortable way.
When she finally did speak, it was hardly above a ragged whisper.
“Are-are you referring to some kind of...kink that you have? Like threesome-”
“What? No! No, no, no.” Loki’s eyes flew wide open.
Even though her mind was absolutely clouded, some part of it still had the audacity to silently laugh at his comical face.
“I’m very, very happy with you. With only the two of us enjoying our moments,” a pink-faced Loki assured her.
“Then? What are you-”
“Before,” he stopped her, “you suggest some other...weird...notion, let me explain. I was referring to,” he exhaled loudly, slowly moving to hold her waist, “a small someone...tiny, to begin with, to join us. You know, a small human or maybe a God, who knows! Or maybe a demi-God?”
Gradually, the knots vanished from her brows, and her eyes grew wide. She couldn’t believe her own ears. Once again, reasonability had ditched her. She knew that there was no mistaking in understanding what he was saying but...Was he really saying that?
“Loki! Are you-are you talking about having a...child?” The last word was barely audible.
He smiled as the hand at her waist moved up her arm to hold her hand, “If only you’re still willing to have one with me.”
With wide eyes and a blinding smile, she pounced on him. Yes, she literally pounced on him, causing him to roll over and lie flat on his back, with her pinning him down.
For the next few seconds, the room was filled with sounds of unadulterated happiness.
She kept peppering his face with kisses, and he giggled along like a little boy.
When she finally paused to take a breath, her eyes travelled all over his face. His beautiful, happy face. The face of the man she loved, who made her feel loved like hardly anyone else ever had.
“I...what’s gotten into you? Did something happen at the mission? Did someone say something? Did you get drugged?”
“What? No! Nothing happened, and no one told me anything. And, I’m perfectly fine, thank you! I just,” he sighed as his hold on her tightened just a tad bit, “I’ve been thinking about this since some time now.”
“You have?” Her bright smile returned. “But...we talked about this before, and you said that you… Look, I know you have your reasons to… And it’s absolutely okay. We can take our time. I don’t want to force you into anything that you’re uncomfortable with. I mean, I don’t want you to do something for me that you’re unsure about. You know what I mea-”
“(Y/N)!” He had to demand her attention amidst her rambling. “What did I tell you? I’m ready. I’m sure about this. I want this, too. Whatever reasons I had, you’ve washed them away. I do not fear anything now.”
A tiny drop of water fell on his cheeks.
“I’m so sorry,” she rolled off him while hastily wiping her eyes.
“Hey,” this time it was Loki who moved to gather her in his arms. This time, it was Loki who kept showering her face with little kisses until a small giggle reached his ears.
“I love you,” she cradled his face in her hands.
“And I, you.”
“So,” she sniffled, “when do we start?”
That mischievous look was back on her face, making Loki laugh.
“Always eager, ha?” He pressed himself against her, rubbing his nose with hers.
“Always eager for you, my King!”
He laughed again, and propped his head on his elbow. “How about tomorrow?”
She gave a playful pout, “Why not tonight?”
He sighed, the warmth back in his eyes, “Tonight, I’m really enjoying our chit-chat. But if you want to...”
“No,” she whispered, “I was kidding. I’m enjoying these just as much.”
Loki lay on his side, and scooped her close to him, mumbling words of love into her neck, while she did the same into his ear.

Jötunn love: Pt. 1
Tumblr media
Loki Laufeyson son of Laufey and heir to the throne of Jotunheim, ruler of frost giants. after the great battle between Asgard and Jotunheim the young child was lost almost the war. Odin king of Asgard found the child in an abandoned ruins.
In an act of kindness Odin brought the child back to King Laufey as a treaty to end the bloodshed that seems to never end. In honour Laufey agree and thus a small alliance was formed, Loki became friends with the prince of Asgard, Thor. The two thrived as they fought side by side on many wild adventures.
As the two prince's grew the two saw less and less of each other, holding to their royal duties. However, the two are still young and always found time to go and enjoy themselves at parties.
Back on Jotunheim, there was a particular giantess not too pleased with the prince. (Name) is a giantess who is a fierce warrior from a family bloodline that had sworn to protect the throne, aside from coming from a family of warriors she had a few sorceress in her lineage. This obviously placed her at the prince's side to protect him in all his battles.
in the beginning, the young giantess wasn't fond of the prince. She found him immature and thought of him as runt like, given his height and sature. Although that was when she was growing up with the young prince.
Nowadays (Name) saw the prince with more of a young woman's eyes, a woman who was ready to start a family of her own. Loki did become very attractive in her eyes, but he was unbelievably immature.
Laufey, before his passing had hoped of having his only heir betrothed to (Name) to ensure a strong offspring.
Of course the two frost giants were absolutely appaled by the idea. But things started to change around them, as Loki continued to rebel now being able to go off to Thor's grand parties (Name) became a part time ruler.
she was not his wife nor his partner she just happened to be second in command. The people of Jotunheim did not mind having (Name) as their ruler while King Loki was absent, in fact most of the people refered to her as the future Queen.
(Name) was making some errands, seeing to the new recruits to the royal army. As she arrived she realize that her head guards were gone. she was furious, she snapped at one of the second in commands
"What is the meaning of this? Where are my men" she growled out
"They are accompanying the kind" said one with a wavering tone in fright of her furious tone
"And where are they?" she hissed
"Midgard my lady"
The giantess stormed out to their hold of the bifrost and activated it by using her magic. Joutemhime would be fine, she was dropping by to Midgard only to drag the King back.
-
-
Loki was preoccupied with partying and flirting with the people of Midgard and those who came down from the stars to visit and enjoy the party. Loki was oblivious to what was coming for him.
Sky grew dark, blocking the light that illuminated the bridge that they were gathering around. Thor was tempting to get everyone's attention including Loki's.
With a flash of light and a loud thud and crash. The strong gust of cold air made everything stop. From the mist stood a woman who was slim yet with a phesique so strong that one could tell she was not to be messed with. The Midgardian sun peeked out once the clouds cleared out
"Laufeyson" came the authortive voice of a woman
"Who is this woman?" came Thor's voice as he looked at a shocked and paled blue face that belonged to none other than Loki.
"(N-Name)?! what are you doing here?" he said trying to keep a pleasant smile on his face
"Why have you run off with my men" she snapped
"Your men?" scoffed Loki "I'm their King, where I go they go"
"Well your highness" she hissed out with so much venom "when you're back on Jotunheim then you are King. but when you are galloping around in low realms doing who knows what, I'm running that kingdom"
she stalked right up to the frost giant king. every watched in awe as she sized him up with her vibe and aura
"So when I'm there they are my men. They are meant to be back home training our new recruits. So hand them over and stay. if you refuse I will drag you and my men back" she got close to his face "am I understood, Loki"
Loki was dumbfounded. It wasn't common to have the giantess loose her temper so easily, so Loki new that this anger had been brewing for some time.
His initial shock turned into curiosity. He found himself amused by her anger slightly, the way she so willingly go close to him threatening him on occasion, willing to throw formalities out the window and scold him
"Crystal clear, love" came his silky voice.
She held a dagger at his throat. With some added pressure she hissed out
"Don't call me that" she glared at him "so what will it be your highness"
"Fine, we can all leave peacefully. The party was going to get shut down anyway" Loki said with a shrug
"Loki you have to help me" Thor begged
"No I don't, she's you mother not mine. I don't have to do anything-" he's cut short as (Name) sends him a look
"Lady (Name) wouldn't want me to. Clearly she is far too eager to get home to Joutemhime" he told Thor
"Please Lady giantess" Thor begged the female frost giant
"I'll allow it. A King must always aid those who ask for it" she said pointly.
Loki glared at her, not expecting her to give into the blonde Asgardian so easily. as Loki was practically forced into helping (Name) kept a watchful eye on the male as she commanded her men to help with the clean up.
"I had no idea you had a wife Loki" Thor said astonished "does she know you've been fooling with others"
"I beg your pardon?" Loki asked in question "Her and I are not married"
"Come now Loki, no need to be coy. I'm happy you have a wife, there's no shame in love" Thor said with a big smile
"She is not my wife nor will she ever be" Loki said with a frown
"Oh.... but you're King, what you say goes. If you want her then make her" Thor said giving Loki a nudge at Loki's leg
"Thor no." Loki looked down glaring "we are not married. She is nothing but my second in command, my close guard and my sorceress."
"I don't know Loki, she sounds more like the Queen of Jotunheim to me. Why not give it a try?" Thor gave a bellowed laugh "she clearly meets the criteria of Queen, she's remarkable attractive for a frost giant woman. she's a warrior and sorceress. She can match you with ease. why not persue?"
"Thor if I need daring advice I'll ask" Loki rolled his eyes "just drop the subject Thor. it will lead to nowhere"
"Loki come on-"
"I said enough!" Loki snapped losing his temper.
The giantess snapped her head to the outburst of her king and was at his side with a stern expression. Thor looked fairly shocked as did the other around them, (Name) looked between the two and shoved Loki away from Thor
"My apologies prince Thor, but we have done what was asked of us but we must be off now." (Name) said giving a bow of respect "Until next time my prince"
With that said she was off opening the bifrost to Jotunheim for the group Loki brought down himself. She was silent the whole way back, Loki stole glanced every now and then. he could help but play back Thor's words, I play like a vinyl record on loop 'why not persue?'

The Intern (Loki Oneshot)
Summary: Loki takes an interest in the latest of a long line of Stark’s interns.
Pairing: Loki x Reader (Can be read as platonic, if preferred)
Word Count: 2,809
Disclaimers/Warnings: None. Just a bit of fluff.
A/N: This wound up turning into something entirely different from the original concept. Just kinda went with what felt right. Also trying desperately to remember working with an Arduino board to make this at least semi-accurate.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Loki traipsed aimlessly through the Tower, his overly-friendly insomnia having kept him up past four in the morning again. Nothing seemed to help him sleep and he constantly grew bored laying around in his room waiting for exhaustion to overtake him. Wandering about seemed as good as anything. Sometimes he would come across something interesting. It seems now would be that time.
He rounded the corner and found himself gazing through the wall-length windows of Tony Stark’s lab. The armor-less Iron Man was passed out in a chair, head haphazardly lolling on a table. Usually, he was still working and would be until at least seven a.m. before Pepper would literally drag him to bed.
Movement at the other end of the room caught his eye. There you were, pulling a blanket out of the cupboard. You crossed the lab and placed the well-used cloth over Stark’s shoulders before returning to your work. Sliding your safety glasses on, you put all your focus into soldering some wires to a board.
What in the nine realms were you doing here at this hour? The sun hadn’t even reached the horizon yet. None of his previous interns ever started their days before nine. Albeit, they had barely lasted a week while you broke a record at just over a month, but the point still stood. Why were you here?
“Are you just going to stand there like a creeper, Loki, or are you going to come in and hang out?” you called out, not even bothering to tear your eyes away from the wiring.
Well, this excursion could prove to be interesting. Loki slithered through the doorway to stand opposite of you at your table.
“So what are you doing up this early?” you murmured. If it weren’t for you glancing up at him, someone may have thought it was more of a question for yourself.
Loki huffed a laugh. “I could ask you the same question.”
That elicited a quirky smile from you. “Woke up way before my alarm and couldn’t fall back asleep. Figured I’d start my day early.” You gestured toward Stark with the soldering iron. “This one over here is pretty lenient on the hours.”
“I would hope so,” Loki chuckled, “considering his own schedule.”
“A schedule that consists of planned energy drink breaks. Definitely one of the more interesting employers out there.”
“I suppose you could say that,” he mumbled, leaning heavily on his forearms propped on the table.
You set down the soldering iron in its stand and shut if off. “So I answered your question. How about you?”
“I simply could not sleep,” he nonchalantly replied.
“Hmm...” you hummed. “Lemme guess. A member of Insomniacs Anonymous?”
His chuckle reverberated through the room. This was probably one of the reasons Stark kept you around. You certainly had a particular snarky confident air about you.
Yet the corners of your mouth suddenly hung low and your brow scrunched together. “It’s more than that, isn’t it?”
“Pardon?” He was confused at your change in demeanor.
“It’s not as simple as you couldn’t sleep. There’s more to it.”
Loki’s lips parted in astonishment. Here you were in your first true encounter with him and you read him like an open book. What had you been told?
“I won’t make you say anything.” You held your hands up in a placating manner. “You probably don’t want to, and that’s okay. However.” You grabbed the notepad next to you and scribbled something on it, ripping off the paper and sliding it towards him. “If you’re ever bored and I’m not here, you can text me. I’ll probably answer.”
He reluctantly took the note that had your number written on it. “I cannot say I am very adept with these cellular devices.”
“Pretty sure you’re clever enough to figure it out,” you grinned like the Cheshire Cat. “But seriously, no pressure. The offer is always out there.”
“Wha?!” Stark snorted himself awake, his eyes shooting around wildly. “Rudolf? What’re you doing here?” He eyed Loki suspiciously. “You’re not going to scare away my intern, are you? That’s my job.”
You laughed, keeping Loki from spitting a venomous retort. “Good luck with that. You’ll have to try a lot harder if that’s what you’re going for, Stark.”
“Obviously. You haven’t run off yet. I’m surprised.” He took the blanket that was wrapped around him and began folding it. “Pleasantly surprised.”
“Sure, sure!” You waved him off.
Stark looked at his watch and swiped a hand through his purposely messy bed head. “It’s that time already. I better get breakfast before Pepper finds me... Alright!” He clapped. “Both of you, let’s go! Time for grub!”
Loki’s eyebrows shot up across his forehead. Was Stark actually having him join the two of you for breakfast?
“Yes, you too, Reindeer Games! One, I don’t want you in the lab alone.” That earned him Loki’s scowl. “Two, you seem to be behaving, so why not have you eat with us.”
You nudged Stark’s arm while shooting Loki an inconspicuous wink. “Awww, look at you! Already getting into Dad Mode and little Morgan hasn’t even entered the world yet.”
He nudged you back. “Yeah, yeah, yeah! Now come on. I’m starving!”
You continued to tease him as you followed him out of the lab with Loki close behind.
Tumblr media
Loki lay in bed a few nights later, lost in thought. He could not get you out of his head. You had spoken with him like you would anyone else, deflected and stood up for him despite hardly knowing him. In the few years since he had been thrown to Midgard as punishment, Thor was the only one to show him a sliver of kindness, but even he held some hesitation. You did not. Your earlier interaction was genuine. He wasn’t sure what to make of it all.
In his perpetual deliberation, he had avoided the lab since that morning. Not that he didn’t like you. It was the uncertainty that kept him away, but that wouldn’t last much longer.
His phone settled lax in his hand, your name illuminating the screen. You had been right about him being able to learn how to text. Now it was a matter of completing the action. Tossing the phone to his other hand, he glared at the bright screen. His message had already been written. All he had to do was select “Send”. The clock at the top of the screen read two a.m. Surely, you would be asleep... But what if you weren’t?
With a huff, he pinched his eyes shut and hit the button, the swooshing sound seemingly echoing off the walls. The following silence was deafening. Luckily for him, the reply swoosh fell inline shortly after.
You: Hey, Loki. Can’t sleep?
Loki: How did you know who this was without me saying?
You: I can’t think of anyone else who would text me at this hour. ;)
Loki: I apologize if I woke you.
You: Nah. Already up. Trouble staying asleep. So what’re you up to?
Loki: Texting you.
You: Other than that, Mischief
Loki: Thinking.
You: Yeah? About what?
Loki: Possibly meandering through the Tower, again.
You: Liar ;)
Loki: Pardon?
You: You were obviously thinking about me.
Loki: What makes you say that?
You: You had to be. At least in the context that it would be better to text me than exploring.
Loki: Fair enough. Now, how do you know I am not planning to choose both?
You: You got me there.
Loki met you at the lab later that morning. The familiar sight of Stark was passed out, snuggling his face to a countertop, greeted you both.
Shaking your head, you huffed a laugh as you passed through the doorway. “Can’t really reprimand him when my sleep schedule is just as bad.”
Loki’s lips curled into a light smirk but didn’t speak a word lest Stark awaken and force him to leave. Despite your two hour texting session, he had been looking forward to joining you here.
“Thanks for meeting me here, by the way,” you called out to him as still stood just at the edge of the lab. “A little company while working is kind of nice. Gets too quiet when Stark finally shuts down.”
Taking a seat across from you, Loki quirks an eyebrow. “Would that not be considered a blessing?”
You stifled a chuckle as you flipped on the soldering iron and pulled out what roughly looked like a vambrace. The board you had been working on previously was molded to the shape. “If that happened by the end of my workday, yes. This early in the morning? Not so much. It’s boring if not a little eerie.”
“I see... So I am only here for your entertainment,” he feigned offense.
You gasped dramatically, “Me? Never!”
Laughing with you, Loki made himself a bit more comfortable as he watched you work. At the moment, you were adding tiny capacitors and securing them into place.
“If I may, what are you trying to accomplish?”
“Well,” you started, glancing up at him. “It’s a new piece of armor. Other than that, I technically shouldn’t say much else.”
“Right... Classified information?”
There was a twinkle of mischief in your eyes as you looked at him again. “It is a secret, but nothing quite as official as that.”
Loki leaned across the tabletop, supporting his chin in his hand. “So there is no harm in you revealing your project,” he tested.
“Harm? No. However, there will be disappointment on my end if you figure it out.”
“I accept this challenge,” he grinned playfully.
You smirked back,“As you wish, Mischief. I won’t make this easy for you.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it, Darling.”
Tumblr media
The next several weeks chaotically blurred together. At first, you allowed Loki to observe your project as you worked on it. Once the vambrace began to take on a more unique form, you were hiding it in the mornings, opting to take on a different assignment when he was in the room. The design was strikingly Asgardian, leading him to believe the new armor was for Thor. He just needed to figure out what it did. He spoke with his brother on multiple occasions but was unable to glean anything from him. Either he had no clue or suddenly learned to lie well enough to fool Loki, the latter highly doubtful.
Apart from politely harassing you via text, Loki took to locating your hiding spots, something that proved difficult when the lab was almost always occupied by you, Stark or Banner at varying times. Stark was helping you keep this little secret, a sparkle in his eyes whenever he shooed Loki from the room when he was caught investigating. Even Banner was in on it, albeit reluctantly.
Then there was that Doctor Strange who was showing up every few days, joining you all in the lab much to Loki’s chagrin. By that point, Stark had banned him from the entire floor. The project must have been coming to a close if you all were trying to cover it up so desperately. But why Strange? Was he imbuing the vambrace with magic to protect Thor better? (Not that he really needed it.) His curiosity was certainly getting the better of him, going so far as to shape-shift as one of you three when Strange wasn’t around to get into the room. Somehow, Friday always knew and alerted the lab’s occupants who would send him back to the elevator.
It was early one morning as he was perusing the contents of the shared kitchen that you initiated contact with him. He was surprised since he had been the one to text you first lately to see if you would spill your secret.
You: Hey. Can you stop by the lab?
Loki: Oh? I thought I was banned.
You: Lifted as of a few minutes ago. So?
Loki: I suppose I might be able to grace you with my presence.
You: So kind of you, my King ;)
His heart skipped a beat at you calling him “your King”. You only used it in a teasing fashion when he was acting high and mighty. Even then, it still flustered him.
Loki made his way to the elevator, deeming it a bit devious to take the long way to the lab. You had made him wait all this time. It was your turn.
The doors reopened on the lab floor, revealing that his ploy to annoy had worked. You were leaned against the wall next to the elevator, waiting for his arrival.
“Finally! Come on!”
You audaciously grabbed his wrist and dragged him into the room with an impatient grin. Stopping him near your normal workstation, you demanded he close his eyes.
“Excuse me?” he responded incredulously, ripping his arm from your grasp.
“Please, Loki...” Your pleading eyes grew larger as you pouted at him.
Stark groaned, “Just do it, Reindeer Games, or I’ll cover them for you.”
Loki’s lips reared into a snarl as he glared at the billionaire before relenting and clenching his eyelids shut. Norns, how he hated those nicknames.
“Okay!” Excitement laced your voice. “Would you hold up your dominant hand?”
“Making more demands, Darling?”
“I did ask nicely this time.”
“That you did,” he chuckled a complied, holding out a hand.
“Perfect!”
He felt a metallic weight placed on his forearm before it was clasped together with a comfortable tightness.
“Okay. You can look now!”
The sight of the vambrace on his arm left Loki’s mouth agape. The main black of the piece was lined with gold Asgardian knot designs with runes placed in a handful of the empty spaces. Near his wrist, an artificial emerald was embedded in the armor. If he had to be completely honest, the aesthetics could rival much of the armor back home.
“Well, Kid. It looks like you rendered him speechless.” Stark nudged your arm.
Loki’s gaze shot up to the two of you. Stark was leaning against the workstation while you had hoisted yourself to sit atop it, nothing but grins on either of your faces.
“What is this-”
You cut him off, “It’s for you. We noticed after some of your missions where you had to use your seiðr more than usual, you’d end up exhausted before getting back to the Quinjet. The new armor should help with that. It’s supposed to amplify your magic without draining you.”
Stark shoved you lightheartedly, again. “The kid noticed. Told ‘em if they could come up with something that could work, I’d give whatever resources needed for the project.”
“So what do you think? I mean we still need to undergo more testing and calibrations before you can use it in the field, but-”
“You made this?” Loki locked barely tearing eyes with you. “For me?”
“Yup! Kid designed the whole thing!” Stark kept you from answering. “Minus the bits we had to bring Strange in for the wizard-y things, this was a solo run. Did a pretty good job. Not sure I could have done much better.”
“Stark...” you grumbled, clearly not used to the praise.
“This is...” Loki tore his gaze away back to the vambrace. “I don’t... I don’t know what to say.” His voice was just loud enough for you to hear.
“A ‘thank you’ would be a good start. Now maybe this little intern will get more sleep,” Stark blundered before checking his watch. “Well, it’s about time for my morning scolding. I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me!”
With that he whisked himself out of the room and to the elevator, leaving you and Loki in a terribly awkward silence.
“Hey...” you started. “If you don’t like it, we can scrap the design. It’s not a big deal-”
“Thank you.” His pupils were filled with a sincere gratefulness that few had ever seen before. “This is... This is simply splendid.”
“Really? You’re not just saying that?”
Loki spun on his heel to fully face you, his hands coming to rest on the countertop on either side of you. “I mean it, Darling. This... No one has ever done something like this for me before. I would be honored to be your test subject,” he ended with a smirk.
“Well, if that’s the case,” you grinned right back at him, “I’d say let’s get some breakfast first. There will be plenty of time to optimize the vambrace later.”
Pulling back enough to release you from his cage of arms, he gestured for you to lead the way. “After you,” he breathed.
Hopping down from the table, you held out a hand for him. Hesitantly, Loki took it while running a thumb over your knuckles as you pulled him to the elevator with you.

Hi! I love your writing and saw your requests were open. I hope you don’t mind. I just had a thought. Fem! Y/N trains with Thor, Siff, and the worriers three. She is very impressed with the amount of muscle Thor has put on and Loki is a little jealous. So the next time she happens to touch his arm he flexes. Of course Y/N notices but instead of calling Loki out, she gives him the praise he craves from her. *insert him beaming for a week because of it.*

“Crap, Thor, help me out here.” You grunt and Thor helps you lift your bar back onto the rack. You sit up and try to catch your breath.
“Amazing, you bested your last record by twenty pounds!” He lifts his hand for a high-five and you give him one. He’s been wanting those ever since you showed them what they were a week ago.
“Well of course she did, did you expect anything else from her? She’s going to be lifting you next.” Sif chuckles as she hands you a bottle of water and you take it graciously.
“Not soon! I’ve gained more muscle. I’m a walking titan.” Thor says triumphantly, flexing into the mirrored wall that’s across from you all.
You laugh at his over-the-top flexing, then hear a cough from your side.
You glance over and Loki is leaning in the gym doorway.
“Hello there, Trickster.” You smile and bound up to him, leaning forward for a kiss. He hesitates but gives you a chaste kiss on the lips.
“You two are such lovebirds.” Sif scoffs and you throw a towel at her, but Thor just looks at you both like you’re the best people he’s ever seen.
“Is my brother bothering you with his showmanship? Ego as big as his brawn, that one.” Loki mutters, and you laugh and playfully hit his shoulder.
“He has a huge ego then. Incredible muscles.” You say as you both look at him adding more weight to the bar you just left.
“I guess they are hard to miss. They’re as big as his head.” Loki mutters and when you glance at him, his customary smirk is gone as he stares at his brother. Thor is completely oblivious as usual, and he just beams and waves at Loki as he lays down on the bench.
“Loki? Are you feeling alright?”
“I’m feeling perfect. I’m going to lunch.”
“Oh! Well let me clean up, we can go together.” You say as peppy as you can, hoping to bring him at least a little happiness.
“Are you sure you can tear yourself away?” He nods towards the gym, where Sif is now adding even more weights to Thor’s bar at his goading. She looks irritated and you chuckle nervously.
“Yes please, I don’t want to be here when he can’t lift it and Sif makes fun of him again. He’s incredibly pouty.” You say and Loki just nods in response as you grab your gym bag.
You go into the showers and when you come out again, clean, Loki has taken off his jacket.
He’s just in a t-shirt today, a dark green one he picked up in Midgard. His arms are on full display, a rare sight for the god but not one you resent whatsoever.
You give him another kiss on his cheek, which he accepts but he still doesn’t smile. You walk in silence with him all the way to the courtyard, where he has someone bring out some sandwiches.
Even though this was his idea, he barely even eats. You eat slowly, watching his face. He’s obviously thinking about something, but you know Loki. He will never tell you what’s troubling him outright. Of course, that makes it hard to know what’s wrong. You just opt for idle conversation.
His jacket is still off so you reach over and feel his arms, and under your fingers you feel him flex.
Oh, is that the issue?
He always seemed so sure of his stance on brains over brawn, you didn’t expect him to be jealous over some simple muscles.
But if he is, so be it.
“You look amazing in that shirt.” You say as you lean back and take another bite of your sandwich. That makes him almost imperceptibly perk up, as he looks at you again instead of into the distance.
“Oh?” He says simply, picking up a sandwich and biting into it.
“Yeah. I almost never see your arms, I forget how nice they are.”
“They’re just arms.”
“Arms can look nice, Loki. Like yours. They’re very toned.”
“Is toned a good thing?” He says with fake nonchalance.
“A very good thing. Means you’re strong.”
“Well, I am strong.”
“Very strong. You could rival Thor.”
“Ah well, I’d rather rival Thor with my brains.”
“Yes well, I’m saying you could face him with either smarts or strength.”
“Hmm. Noted.” He glances at your face as he finally takes a bite of a sandwich. You give him a large smile, finishing your own. He stays in silence, so you opt to sit next to him instead of across from him.
You loop one of your arms through his, hugging his bicep as he eats. He immediately flexes again and looks down at you, only mildly confused, but then goes back to eating.
“I feel safe in your arms too.” You say after a moment, and he relaxes the tiniest bit in your grasp.
“That’s what they’re here for.”
“A strong man keeping me safe.” You murmur as you lay your head on his shoulder, and his arm relaxes until he’s not trying to impress you anymore.
Even when he’s not flexing, you weren’t lying. He’s incredibly strong.
But it’s alright to want some love and reminding.
When you look back up again, he’s smiling as he chews his sandwich. He glances down at you and you smile back as he bends down a little to kiss your forehead.
“Thank you, love.” He murmurs. You nod in response, and when he finishes his sandwich you walk away hand-in-hand.
He walks taller and prouder for a while after that.
Especially around Thor, who got his record beat by Sif a week later. Showy muscles aren’t everything.

Logyn Meta: Loki & Sigyn’s Relationship in Mythology
Tumblr media
It’s a classic tale, and arguably one of the most famous in mythology: How Sigyn held a bowl above her lover’s head to shield Loki from the snake’s venom, in turn, holding back Ragnarok a little longer.
But how did Loki and Sigyn come to be married? How did they meet? How did they fall in love?
With so many questions, but few answers we are left with in what has survived with the stories today, we are often left to ponder how the story of Loki and Sigyn came to be. As have many others before me, I will be exploring my thoughts with what information we are given to ponder as to how these two lovers became a thing.
To answer this question, we must go back to the beginning where Sigyn was first introduced to us in the mythologies, presenting the ONLY information we know about their relationship -- specifically: The Poetic Edda & Prose Edda.
In the poem, Lokasenna, the most famous of poem’s with the couple, it talks of how Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son, Nari, and how his son, Vari, has been turned into a wolf. The Goddess Skadi fastens a venomous snake over Loki’s face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.
In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.
In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.”
Now, knowing the little knowledge we have on their relationship, it’s time to explore it from the Viking’s point of view, which is where this all pretty much originated from, in order to understand it better.
Viking Way of Love and Life
I’m no expert in this category, in fact, I’m still learning about it as I go, but there are some important key things to note here about the Viking’s POV on things and how it ties into Loki & Sigyn’s relationship.
Divorce was completely acceptable in Viking Times. In fact, women could own property, request a divorce and reclaim dowries if a marriage ended. She could divorce him for a good number of reasons actually.
Women often remained faithful to their husbands, although they were known to have extramarital sex. If they were caught cheating by the husbands, it usually ended pretty badly for the women.
A Man couldn’t marry his concubine, so his wife wouldn’t have to feel threatened about competition. They usually all lived in the same household. Adultery concerning the husband was okay, but not the wife.
Vikings didn’t categorize people as homosexual, bisexual, straight or etc. They differentiated between submissive and dominant roles in sexual relationships. Homosexuality was acceptable with limits.
Poetry was a big part of Courtship.
Typically marriage was usually for alliances, set up by families and parents. However, this doesn’t mean there wasn’t romance or love between couples or potential marriages.
Family life was important to Norse Men and people usually aimed to survive: typically by marrying and having children.
How does this apply to Loki and Sigyn? Now, let’s dive into the typical hypothesis of their relationship. I call it a typical hypothesis because it hasn’t really been outright pointed out in the mythologies, but it’s something the Mythology community usually agrees on concerning Loki and Sigyn’s relationship from what we know here.
A Hypothesis into Loki & Sigyn’s Marriage
The marriage between the two of them alone is usually questioned by others, especially concerning Loki’s chaotic nature and Sigyn’s undying loyalty. Obviously, she could have divorced him whenever she wanted to if things were bad, but instead she remains by his side which leads us to the fact, not only does she truly love Loki, but she also knows more to him than we do -- as if there is a secret hidden side to the god of Mischief.
It is sometimes implied that the marriage between Loki and Sigyn was an arranged one to establish position in Asgard  -- as marriages typically were in Viking Times. This doesn’t mean there wasn’t love between them, In fact, it could have been a perfectly arranged marriage.
Sigyn isn’t blind to Loki’s flaws, knowing perfectly well how her lover is and accepting him flaws and all -- unlike the other gods. It’s more than likely she knows about his other children: Jormungandr, Sleipnir, Hel and Fenrir, just as she probably knows about his affair with Angrboda. Again, this wasn’t an uncommon thing in Viking Times for a man to have another lover and other children with them.
Loki is very much a family person, just as he enjoys having fun. There has never been anything alluding to him abandoning his family or abusing Sigyn and his kids despite what pop culture or other versions may say. Instead, they have been taken away from him by others in someway (ex: Vali having to kill Narvi as the gods use his insides as Loki’s bindings. Odin taking away all of Loki’s children, making Hel the ruler of the underworld, Jory the serpent of Midgard’s sea and Fenrir locked in bonds. Lets also not forget Sleipnir becoming Odin’s horse and most of his children dying during Ragnarok because of said gods. Sigyn’s whereabouts are unknown and Angrboda is dead. Case in point: I’d wanna start Ragnarok too.)
Vikings typically used motifs or symbolism with their writings. This is where the “opposites attract/compliment each other aka Balance of nature’ comes into play. While Loki is outright known as a Trickster God, hence the God of Mischief (which is typically harmless pranks or fun), but it usually ends with bad results for him, turning into Chaos. And what’s the opposite of Chaos? Constancy and Order. Although it isn’t outright stated, she is pointed out as Loki’s loyal wife and seems to offer that Constancy to his Chaos. Hence, some of us refer to them as “Different Sides of the Same Coin.”
Conclusion
Loki and Sigyn’s relationship is typically misunderstood by others nowadays thanks to how little information we have on them in the texts, some peoples own interpretations of their relationship (*coughs* MARVEL COMICS *coughs*) and how much Sigyn still remains to be unknown by others.
I believe that if their relationship was to be portrayed in the proper way, taking everything here into note and not given to writers who don’t understand or refuse to take the time to understand their relationships/characters, they might actually be understood better overall. A good example of this I’ve found myself is from the German Movie: Mara and the Firebringer and Neil Gaiman’s book: Norse Mythology. They both explore Loki and Sigyn’s relationship in a proper light, not undermining either of them and exploring their thought process and actions in ways that only strength their relationship and one another as individual characters bonded together in marriage.
Bonus mention to The Bifrost Incident by The Mechanisms for their interpretation of Loki and Sigyn’s relationship as well.

Loki Laufeyson x Female!Midgardian!Reader: A Bird in the Hand
Tumblr media
Summary: …is surely not worth its asking price.
Rating/Warnings/Tags: All (some foul language; not Thor Ragnarok compliant)
Fic Trade Prompt: “Please, I don’t want to lose you, too.”
A Bird in the Hand
Once upon a time in a realm known as Midgard, there lived a girl. This girl, of course, was you, and you lived as many young women at the time did during that Age of Miracles. None of these miracles ever happened to you. There were no fish oil transformations on your horizon, nor were there any divine calls to adventure. Just like all New Yorkers, you grew use to your daily commute being interrupted by superheroes, to calling insurance companies to argue over their decision to not pay for alien invasion damage to your apartment, and even to carrying an umbrella around with you even on the driest of days in case certain Asgardians decided to visit. Life went on. You had stopped looking for a real miracle years ago.
As well you should have, because there was nothing miraculous about your wedding day. Outside, a seemingly endless mass of dark gray clouds let loose bucket after bucket of rain. Thunder rolled across the sky; lightning flashed–and that, really, was all you could see through the window you had stationed yourself in front of to sulk. If you hadn’t known any better, you’d have blamed the city’s resident thunder god for the disastrous timing of this storm front. As it was, all you could blame was your string of bad luck.
Speaking of bad luck, the door to your parlor snapped open and in stepped the dripping figure of your best friend. Aliyah paused only long enough to adjust her sodden pink hijab before plopping soggily onto an overstuffed loveseat.
“Well, the gazebo is flooded,” she announced, “the food is soaked through, and the caterer won’t bring more to replace it. Your flower arrangements are in pieces, and the band already ran off. I don’t think there’s anything left of your wedding ceremony.”
You did not bother to leave the window, though you did turn just far enough to throw her a sour look. “Do you have any good news to impart?” you asked.
Aliyah grinned. “Your maid of honor hasn’t walked out yet. At least there will be one person here to witness this fiasco.”
“Gonna need a groom for anything to be witnessed.”
Most close friends would offer sympathy when their friend’s fiancé of a year and a half decided to just not show up for the actual wedding. Most acquaintances would feel bad enough when the carefully planned event got rained out. Not your Aliyah. She simply let out a sharp breath and leaned her head back against the couch cushion.
“Can’t say I didn’t warn you,” she said.
You glared at her, which of course she didn’t see, having shut her eyes to listen to the water tumble from the roof to the street outside.
“Thank you. So much,” you said.
“What?” she asked, forcing her eyes open again. “I told you Jared wasn’t good enough for you. Besides, you should keep all the gifts even if he doesn’t stop by. I saw, like, nine blenders in that pile. You’re better off this way, if you ask me.”
“You’re just saying that because you want a free blender,” you said.
“I wouldn’t say no. But, really, you should count your lucky stars. Free stuff and free of your jackass boyfriend. What better start to a weekend?”
“I’d rather be married to my jackass boyfriend.”
Aliyah’s disdain for Jared was nothing new or surprising. He’d fallen from grace in her eyes when he’d got jealous over your fondness for an injured pigeon you’d rescued only a few months after you started dating Jared. Even releasing the bird hadn’t entirely put an end to his complaints about how you spent your free time. On the other hand, you knew one thing that neither Aliyah nor Jared did: Jared’s jealousy wasn’t entirely misplaced.
But that was years ago. This was now. And that bird had always been bad news.
“Are you going to cry about it?” Aliyah asked, peering over at your perch by the parlor’s bay window. “Because, if not, I’d hate to have dragged Habib all the way to America for nothing.”
At the mention of her long-distance boyfriend, you motioned for Aliyah to go on. You preferred to do your moping alone, and Aliyah knew it. She stood and crossed the room to give you a quick hug before she left without another word. Probably you did owe your maid of honor at a least a blender for all the trouble she’d been through on your behalf.
Sighing, you lifted one hand, dug your fingers into your hair, and tore out what was holding it in its elaborate design. Who cared what you looked like now? Even if stupid Jared had shown up, the storm would have ruined your appearance before you made it down the aisle. Now Aliyah had free rein to spend the rest of her afternoon cuddling with Habib, and you had no one else to bother looking pretty for.
Outside your empty room, you could hear the indistinct muttering of your remaining guests. Family, mostly, who had already given up trying to convince you to let them in. What the rest of them were waiting for before they left, you couldn’t guess. Perhaps for you to come out and make an official announcement: The wedding has been called off. Party’s over. You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. And thanks for all the blenders.
The shame of your situation suddenly threatened to crash down upon you. It would have, if you had remained sitting where you were. Instead, you got up, white dress rustling as you stalked across the room. A quiet shriek of rage was stifled only by your gloved hand pressed to your colored lips. Of all the pathetic, idiotic, insane things you had done in your life! Now you didn’t even have the courage to face your friends and family with the truth.
“Tap. Tap. Tap.”
Hail began to hit the glass behind you, soft and hesitant. Since you had no plans to leave the building any time soon, you ignored this weather development.
Jared hadn’t even called to say he’d changed his mind. You should have known when he hadn’t come home after his stag party the night before. He was probably laughing it up over your stupidity with some blonde bikini babe by the beach that you were supposed to go to for your honeymoon. The thought caused you to kick out angrily at the coffee table, and you heard a quiet rip issue from your skirt in response when it caught on a corner.
You swore.
”Tap. Tap. Tap.”
Now that you thought about it, the sound wasn’t regular enough to be hail. It wasn’t very hesitant anymore either. Still, you ignored the noise as you yanked off your veil, your gloves, and your garter. You were mentally preparing to rip them all to shreds with your fingernails when you heard it again:
“Tap. Tap. Tap.”
That time you did not suppress your shriek. As it faded into the overstuffed furniture surrounding you, you marched over to the window and shoved it open. The wind whistled through the empty space, sending anything in the room not tied down into the air and splattering your face with water. If ever there was a time to reasonably expect an Asgardian thunder god to step inside, it was then. No one was there, though, save for a single bedraggled pigeon.
“Oh, hello,” you said when it hopped onto the sill, and automatically you held out your cupped hands toward it.
The poor thing shivered once, then stepped onto your warm palms. Only when it looked up into your face did you see that it had bright green, very un-pigeon-ish eyes.
Before you could stuff the bird back outside, it lifted itself into the air to half-flutter, half-fly over to the loveseat Aliyah had been sitting on. A flash of light that had nothing to do with the lightning outside filled the room. When you had blinked and cleared your vision enough that you could see again, the pigeon was gone, and in its place reclined a tall, dark-haired, beautiful man, dressed to the nines in Asgardian fashion.
“Hello, darling,” said Loki Laufeyson. “Don’t you look ravishing?”
You were too shocked to contradict him. No mention of your torn dress, mussed hair, or smeared makeup escaped your lips. Instead, you said the only thing you could in that sort of situation: “What are you doing here?”
“Why, I’m here to offer you my congratulations, of course,” he answered, examining one perfectly manicured nail. “Or should it be my condolences?”
“Really?” Your tone dripped with enough sarcasm that it could be heard over the protesting window as you forced it shut. “You disappear for two years, never write, never visit, and then you just happen to pop by to celebrate my wedding to another man?”
“What kind of secret lover would I be if I did not?”
“We are not secret lovers.”
“Well, no, we haven’t been for quite some time. I see no reason why that should stop us from picking up right where we left off, however.”
“We were never secret lovers.”
“Really?” he said, mocking the tone of your earlier question. “That’s not what it seemed like to me. Of course, I had the brain of a pigeon most of the time, but at night when your beau had to work and leave you so very alone–”
“You can’t just show up out of the blue and expect me to want you again,” you interrupted. “And on my wedding day to boot.”
To his credit, Loki looked genuinely confused by your behavior–like he’d expected you to jump straight into his arms, marriage or no. Obviously, they did things differently in Asgard. You were not Asgardian.
“Fine,” he said. “If that’s the way you want it. I was only trying to thank you for helping me, you know.”
“All I did was take in a pigeon that got injured when Thor threw a bunch of peanuts at a flock. It didn’t really deserve that sort of thanking.”
“Ah, but you enjoyed it anyway.” That wasn’t the point. He knew it wasn’t the point just as well as you did, because once he made it, he got fluidly up to his feet to and walked over to stand in front of you. “If you are that disinclined to see me, I suppose I had better get going. If you ever grow tired of being lonely again–oh, that’s right. You don’t know how to contact me.”
You opened your mouth to remind Loki that you didn’t want to contact him, but then something about Loki’s words rang strange.
“Alone?” you echoed.
“Yes, alone. Or do you expect your Prince Charming to come riding up on a horse of white any second now? Better late than never?”
Without thinking, without warning, you slapped him straight across the face.
“Ow!” he snapped, pressing one of his hands to the mark on his face. “What was that for?”
“What did you do?” You lifted your hand for another blow. “What did you do to Jared?”
“Me? Do something to Jared? What should I have to do with that ponderous ass?”
“Did you kill him, Loki?” you asked, voice quavering. Loki could do it. Easily. He was a god, and Jared just…well, just a ponderous ass.
Loki let out a single bark of laughter. “Oh, please. I just got out of Asgardian prison. As if I’d risk going back over the murder of a petty moral such as he.”
That brought you up short. Frowning, you deigned to look at him again. “Prison?”
“Yes, prison. Did you think my absence was due to taking a pleasure cruise?”
“I thought you’d escaped prison when I found you the first time.”
“But you sent me back to Asgard when I started causing trouble,“ he reminded you. "Odin does not forget his son’s crimes easily, nor is he inclined to forgive them. Luckily my brother is far easier to manipulate.”
He had not, you noticed, made any real move to leave. Loki still stood in front of you, looking down as the pink handprint faded from his cheek.
“So…you didn’t kill my fiancé?” you asked uncertainly.
He shook his head. “If he isn’t here, it is because he is a dunce, not because I tricked him in any way.”
“Oh.” All the problems of your appearance seemed at once apparent and embarrassing. To think that this man would see you in such a state, and only because he’d wanted to see you after his release from jail. “Why did you really come, then? Since you knew he wasn’t here. To gloat?”
“The thought did occur to me,” Loki confessed. “I am not often in the position of being the more desirable choice. But,” here his voice turned oddly sincere, “I actually came to ask you to come with me.”
Your mouth fell open. Some of Loki’s usual acerbic amusement returned as he watched you flounder; you could see the faint outlines of his familiar smirk at the corners of his mouth. Finally, you managed a short, “go with you where?”
He shrugged, and started to twist the curtain in between his long, pale fingers. “I don’t know, really.”
“You want me to go somewhere with you without anywhere in mind?”
“I thought we’d figure it out as we went along,” he said. “Travel the galaxies. I cannot return to Asgard and Midgard, of course, is out of the question so long as I do not rule it.”
“You want me to follow you into outerspace?”
Only his silence could tip you off that Loki was actually nervous. He clearly had no idea how you would respond to his suggestion–which was by falling into a nearby chair to gape at him.
“You want me to leave my family?” you asked.
“They live far away and hardly talk to you.”
“And my job?”
“That you’ve never liked. We’re both aware.”
“And my best friend?”
“She spends most of her time visiting mosques in India with her boyfriend,” Loki said with a dismissive flick of his hand. “Besides, there’s no rule to say we can’t come back to visit her every so often. I have no objection. She seems a sensible enough woman.”
“And you want me to leave them all,” you went on as though you couldn’t hear him, “for you, a man I haven’t seen in years because he was in prison.”
Once more, Loki said nothing. His green eyes peered into yours with unreadable depths, just as they had the unfortunate day you had returned home after to work to find your injured pigeon friend gone and a strange man eating all of the meat out of your fridge in its place. You could remember, too, the feel of that man’s skin against yours, the heat of his lips on your neck, the sound of his low voice in your ear–and Jared complaining, always complaining, about how much time you spent with that damn bird.
You buried your face in your hands. “I can’t do it, Loki. I can’t.”
You waited to hear him leave again, to hear the glass move and the rush of the storm and the flutter of wings. None came. All that did was one soft word:
“Please.”
“Huh?”
When you looked up, Loki was right above you. His hands gripped the chair arms at your sides with enough force to make them whiter than ever–but his eyes were not on yours anymore.
“Please,” he said, “I don’t want to lose you, too.”
Another move without thinking or warning: You gently touched his other cheek.
Loki’s eyes closed for a half second before he moved one hand to hold your wrist there. “I have already lost my father, my mother, my home. My own brother has thrust me unceremoniously from both realms I sought to rule. And then to hear that I would lose you, too, to an oaf like that Jared.”
No one could say that Loki losing all of this wasn’t entirely his fault. He had decided to lead an alien invasion into Earth, to try murdering several members of his mentioned family, and to seduce young Earth women under the guise of hurt animals. But part of Loki’s charm was that he never failed to make one doubt that he could be better, maybe, if you only let him try.
“I’m sorry,” you said sincerely. A sincere apology didn’t mean your mind was changed, however, and this, also, Loki knew.
“Do you want me to beg?” he asked. “I am no longer a stranger to begging.”
With that, Loki slid to the wooden floor before you. Stranger or no, it was positive it wasn’t a position he relished being in, what with how stiff his hands were around yours when he made to hold them. He swallowed, took a deep breath, and began:
“I know I am asking a lot. But I, too, have lost a family, a job, and my closest friends. I would not ask you to come with me if I did not intend on paying you pack ten times in kind. If you will allow me to take you with me, I know I can make you happier than you would be here. Together we will find some place to call our own, and you shall be my queen. So please,” he said, “please let me keep one last thing that I love. Don’t make me leave you behind, too.”
It wasn’t the prettiest speech you had ever heard come out of his mouth, but it was probably the most honest. You gave him a tiny smile as you squeezed his hands in return. “A queen, huh?”
Loki smirked. “Or a comfortable, quiet living, depending on what we find, and how thorough Thor is in seeking me out. At least we could be comfortable and quiet for a little while.”
“Can’t imagine that’s going to last long with you around.”
“With you around to look after me, though…”
That got you to laugh. “Oh, yes, I’m sure I’d do a wonderful job making sure you didn’t get into any trouble. I did such a good job before.”
Some of the color returned to Loki’s features. He was starting to hope. Against your better judgement, so were you. A couple of things, however, remained to bother you:
“What if you came here and Jared and I were married?” you asked.
“Then I would have had to resort to kidnapping.”
“And how did you even know I was getting married today to begin with?”
He smiled his Cheshire smile, and that was when you knew you were truly lost. “You really ought to stop talking to the birds on your fire escape. You never know which one would be willing to pass information off in exchange for a couple of peanuts.”
“Oh, and you stalk me. What part of this deal doesn’t sound good?”
“None of it, I should hope.” Standing, Loki kept one hand firmly around one of yours. “We should go, you realize. Unless you want to say your goodbyes?”
You thought of your parents blustering about how you dared to invite both of them to your wedding. You thought of the forlorn apartment you shared with a man that had never really loved you for you. You thought of Aliyah and her instance that Jared would never be good enough for you. You thought of the awkward explanation that would be expected as soon you set foot outside that door–and you grinned.
“Not a chance.”
“Then I believe,” he said, and abruptly pulled you into his arms in an obvious parody of carrying a bride before pushing the window open with his boot, “we have a few errands to go on before we get on our way.”
“Like what?”
“Unless you plan to live the rest of our lives with nothing but multiple blenders,” he began, but was not able to finish over your sudden laughter and the return of the torrent outside.
You latched your hands behind his neck as he dove back into the rain. There were stars somewhere above those clouds, and you would be visiting them soon enough–them and endless other realms. Maybe eloping with a man that could turn into a pigeon wasn’t the best miracle there ever was on Midgard, but it pulled off the most important trick of them all: Against all odds, you lived happily ever after.

Loki frowned, looking out the window, down at the Avengers getting into Stark’s limo. They were doing some kind of awareness week at schools in the city, something or other about being a good citizen and staying safe. The God of Mischief had been invited to come, but he didn’t think it a particularly good idea. He’d never done anything with children before, and he wasn’t sure this was the best time to try.
“Loki?” you asked out of the blue. He whipped around at the sound of your voice. “What are you still doing here?”
“Oh, hello, darling. I just did not feel like going,” he said with a shrug. It wasn’t entirely a lie, but he still felt bad. “And what about you?”
“They insisted someone stay in case of an emergency call,” you explained. You weren’t totally sold on his excuse, but were terrified of pushing him, especially because things were going so well between you recently. “So that means we’re alone, right?”
“Yes, darling. Indeed, it does,” he replied, a smile curling on his lips.
Faster than lightning, Loki was pressing his lips to yours in a passionate kiss. You’d been dating for a little over a month, but were keeping it a secret from the rest of the Avengers. You both had your own reasons for that. Loki was afraid they wouldn’t approve and try to come between you. You, however were worried that Loki would put too much pressure on himself to be perfect if they knew, ending in him pulling away from you, convinced he wasn’t good enough. But either way, you agreed it was too soon to let them know. Soon, Loki had you pinned on the couch with his body, the raw desire in his kiss only growing. All too soon, you had to break for air, but you were quick to recapture his lips after catching your breath.
After a while, you were content to just lay with each other, cuddling while a movie played in the background. You were talking, and it reminded you of his flaky excuse from earlier. You were still worried about pressing, but god damn it, he was your boyfriend and you should be allowed to check on him.
“So...” you began.
“So?”
“So what’s the real reason why you didn’t go with the rest of the team?”
“Ah,” he said. “That.”
“Mhm. You don’t have to tell me,” you replied, caressing his cheek, “but you can always talk to me. I’m here for you, Loki. I promise.”
“I know, darling. Thank you,” he said against your skin as he nuzzled into your neck. He didn’t want to trouble you with what was on his mind, but your eyes were so innocent and full of adoration that he couldn’t resist. “I am afraid. Afraid that I would not be good with kids, that I would frighten them. Afraid that their parents would learn of my visit and cause an uproar. Afraid that I will never escape my past.”
“Oh, Loki,” you cooed, filled with compassion. You wanted to take his face in your hands, but he was still hiding in the crook of your neck. You settled for intertwining your fingers with his. “You are so, so much more than your past. New York wasn’t even your fault, for crying out loud. You are amazing, kind, insightful, compassionate, intelligent, beautiful. The list goes on and on, I assure you. The only way to deal with your fears is to face them head on, don’t you think? They may not even come true.”
You could feel his tears staining your skin, though he was obviously trying to hold them back. You were overcome with a powerful need to comfort him, to protect him from the world. It was so unfair that after all he’d been through, everyone who had hurt him, he blamed himself for all this. That he worried he wasn’t worthy of love when he was, in fact, the most deserving person you’d ever met.
“My darling,” he whispered, his voice breaking ever so slightly. Your chest swelled with pride as you realized you were one of the few—possibly the only—people he let himself be vulnerable with. “I cannot thank you enough for your words, truly.”
“You’re welcome, Loki,” you replied, taking a page out of his book and kissing the back of his hand. “You mean the world to me, my love.”
“And you the same to me,” he finally lifted his head up, and you turned to look at him. “I feel I can do anything with you at my side.”
“Does that mean what I think it does?”
“Yes. I will go with the rest of the team tomorrow if, and only if, you come with me.”
“Deal,” you agreed, kissing along his jawline and starting another make-out session.
Luckily, you heard the Avengers before you were in view of each other, giving you and Loki a chance to untangle yourselves and move to opposite ends of the couch. You shared a smile before turning your attentions to the TV as if that’s what you’d been doing the whole time.
“Well, I hope you two had a nice time while we were out doing hard work,” Tony joked.
“Tell you what,” you replied. “You get someone else to hold down the fort, and we’ll go tomorrow.”
“I’ll stay,” Bruce volunteered, a little too excitedly. He never was one for social settings. “Have fun.”
After catching up for a few minutes, you were all setting about your various tasks for the rest of the day. Before meeting Sam in the training room, you gave Loki’s hand a quick squeeze and pecked him on the cheek. Once you were gone, a feeling of dread settled in the pit of his stomach. But he’d meant what he said, and he was willing to do anything so long as you were there.

“What do you mean we can’t visit the same classroom?” you incredulously asked.
“It’s too slow,” Steve explained. “We cover more ground, so to speak, if we split up.”
“But can’t Loki and I be a pair? Please,” you pouted.
“Sorry guys,” he said. “We have to stick to the plan if we’re going to get to all the classes.”
You frowned as he walked away. You understood where he was coming from, but felt like he should have been able to make an exception. But it seemed like there was no getting him to budge, so you dropped the matter.
“Hey, at least our classes will be right next to each other,” you tried to comfort Loki as you all walked towards your assignments. “I’m sorry I can’t stay with you though. I know I promised.”
“Oh, my sweet darling,” Loki replied, pulling you aside to give you a quick kiss. “It is not your fault. It is some Midgardian rite of passage, is it not, to be scared on your first day of school?”
You smiled at the way he was cheering you up, despite obviously being very worried about the whole situation himself. Honestly, you really couldn’t fathom why anyone was afraid of this gentle, beautiful man before you. Why he was afraid of himself.
“I love you, Loki,” you said, giving him a big hug. He melted into your touch. “You’re going to be wonderful. You feel ok with this, right? We’ll figure something out if you don’t.”
“I shall muddle through, somehow,” he assured you. “It is like you said, I must face my fears.”
You gave him one last encouraging hug and smile before disappearing into the classroom you’d be talking in. He took a deep breath before knocking on the door of his assigned room. The teacher, a middle-aged man with hair starting to gray, welcomed him. It was a little unnerving to Loki that he seemed to have no qualms with the God of Mischief entering the threshold. The class, too, was watching him with nothing less than rapt attention and bright eyes. Perhaps you were right, after all, and not as many people as he thought were still holding onto the image he’d had when he first came to Midgard.
“Hello, children,” he began after a nervous gulp. “It is lovely to be here with you today.”
“Hello, Mr. Loki,” they chorused back.
As he began the talk on safety, he relaxed a bit. It was a room full of third graders, for Norns’ sake. He had faced off against fire serpents and sea monsters. Surely he could handle a group of kids. And as he soon found out, he was right indeed. More than handle, in fact; he was great with them! As he waltzed out of the room and into the next, he wondered if he might have a family of his own one day. He didn’t know how you felt about adopting, but he was starting to like the idea. It didn’t go too well for him in his childhood, but he could ensure that some other innocent kid won’t go through what he did. Besides, the circumstances were entirely different. Though, he supposed he was getting ahead of himself, imagining having a family with you. Still, it sent a thrill right to his heart.
After a very successful morning, he met back up with you. Being the first two done with the presentations, Loki took the opportunity to whisk you away to a secluded hallway to kiss you again.
“So it went well, I take it,” you laughed as you broke away.
“Just as you said it would, darling. I even had fun.”
“Well then, congratulations, my love. I think that deserves another kiss,” you said, wrapping your arms behind his neck.
“I think that you are right,” he agreed, tickling you a little.
As your lips met again, you heard a loud, overdramatic gasp that could only belong to Tony. You both sprung back from each other, realizing the hallway wasn’t as private as you’d originally believed. Besides Tony, the other Avengers were all standing there, taking in the scene too. Shooting each other a nervous glance, you and Loki braced yourselves for whatever came next.
“You two,” Tony said, feigning utter shock and hurt, “are dating? Woe is me! How could you keep this a secret from us, your dearest teammates?”
“Spare me, Stark,” Loki said, rolling his eyes and taking your hand. If you’d been found out, might as well be confident about it. “Yes, we are together. And I, for one, couldn’t be happier.”
“Neither could I,” you agreed, going to kiss him again.
“Now, now,” Tony interjected. He stood between you and put an arm over each of your shoulders, leading the way outside. “No kissing in the halls. But you know what? I think this is the start of an awesome era for the Avengers. Just think of all the jokes!”
You giggled as Loki rolled his eyes again, though he was fighting a losing battle with a grin. As you got into the limo, fingers locked once again, Loki began to accept something. It was right what you’d said about that not being the real him at the Battle of New York. No, he was himself now. Someone different, perhaps better and stronger than ever before. And it was you in a large part who had helped him see that. He knew in that moment that he’d been entirely right; with you by his side, he could do anything.
