Layers 2023 really ties it all together.

The wife committed suicide, and the money that came from her death the Painter wanted nothing to do with, so it was used to make a foundation.

A foundation that started a writing contest.

That the Writer won. So she wrote a book about the Painter and his family.

Then the book would be adapted for a film, that she wrote the screenplay for.

A film that the Actor was cast in.

This year is the 200 year anniversary of her birth, a appropriate year to visit Rosa Bonheur’s Studio. The Musee d'Orsay will have a retrospective of her works this autumn. Looking forward to seeing that! Having lunch in the backyard of the space was the perfect pause. It may have been only a salad but the desert and huge pot of tea made me want to sit under the trees until the sun went down. Thank you again Maria for instigating this visit together! мало того, что разработчики, по видимому не в состоянии делать интересные новые игры, так уже совсем все плохо стало и с ремейками. для тех кто не знал, но великим говно-художником я стал после прохождения Layers of Fear, в котором сюжет так и вертится вокруг художника в викторианскую эпоху. игра настолько меня впечатлила, что я стал со всех сил топить за польскую Bloober Team и каждое говно которое они выпускали. до тех самых пор, пока они не стали одними из первых кто запретил свои игры в рашке. я долго возмущался и орал доказывая, что не принадлежу к этим людям и ситуации никаким боком, меня то за шо? я быль настолько взбешен, что не поленился, запустил говно плойку, заново скачал все их купленные игры чтобы влепить по единице каждой, что влияет на общую оценку игр на просторах говностейшон - настолько я был зол! но в этом году они выпустили ремейк по Layers of Fear, этот случай я не смог упустить хоть и был все равно зол. депрессия опустила меня, когда выяснилось, что в игре и рашен субтитры по непонятным причинам, ведь запрещено жеж…

первоначально, Layers of Fear представляла собой инди-психологический-хоррор. даже после приобретения версии 2023 года, я не пыталась до запуска понять или посмотреть что именно входит в ремейк, но сейчас, добравшись до титров я осознала, что окончательно от нее устала. версия 2023 включает в себя не только первую часть с допами, но и вторую, а также новшества в виде истории писательницы. из нового (помимо писательницы) придумано очередное дополнение имеющее отношение в первой части, а именно история жены художника. так то я все еще уверена, что по первой части мной все приобретено и пройдено, так что скорее это новизна исключительно для версии 2023.

если уж переходить к игре и сравнению с оригиналам - я не в восторге. отмечу конечно же графоний и все полагающее для не��ст-гена, но самая любимейшая часть серии испорчена настолько, насколько это вообще возможно. в первую очередь она стала утомительно долгой из-за новых доступных локаций, во-вторых; самооборона глав героя совершенно не вписывается в подобный жанр, который пугает исключительно бессилием перед врагом. в-третьих, из-за встроенной возможности ненадолго обезопасить себя от погоней, Layers of Fear превратился в тупейшую выживалку из разряда последних резидентов. т.е в оригинале за всю игру можно было ‘ум��рить лишь от одного бота в 3-4 случаев за всю игру, в версии 23, тот же бот, появляется каждые 23 минуты, а для предотвращения фейла в него необходимо светить фонарем, что ослепляет бота на несколько секунд. такой частый экшон неуместен совершенно. более того, подобно резиденту, неубиваемый бот в 2х случаях гоняется за глав героем и мешает тому поискать 3 ключа, и пооткрывать 3 двери - типичный ремейк говно-резидента… одного этого мне хватило, что бы осознать насколько прекрасный Layers of Fear слит. только из-за выше сказанного изменения я совершенно перестала особо вникать на новое дополнение (в принципе, весь Layers of Fear 2023 стал для меня ошибкой игровой индустрии) о жене художника. может я перестала геймплейно в нее углубляться, но и историей она не впечатлила, вся серия и ее допы рассказывает о семье шизофреников - увы, в версии 2023 именно так.

Layer of Fear 2, рассказывающий об актере, как и был не понят мной, так и остался таковым, единственное я для себя выделила, что вторая часть все же о душевной травме детства глав героя актера, а не влечениях к персонажам и ролям как мне хотелось думать раньше. по части геймплея, все также плохо как и с первой.

и последнее, ни коим образом неприемлемое мной - писательница. Layer of Fear 23 начинается с истории писательницы которая (внимание пожалуйста!) является автором книг LoF1 и LoF2. иными словами, что первая, что вторая часть ни что иное как отдельные книги писательницы. с ней самой тоже много чего происходит во время писания этих книг, и даже встреча с королевой крыс, или, музой или кто она там (!) появившаяся в полный своей красе во второй части оригинала. увы, тут я совсем бессильна объяснить ее роль тк сама не понимаю. видимо поэтому мне первая часть всегда нравилась больше в силу ее понимающего сюжета.

итак, это пока худший ремейк из всех, что я видела. и мне действительно больно от того, во что превратилась первая часть… в ней даже ачивки брать не хочется

Layers of Fear 2023: The Actor's Story, Chapter 2

I'm just going to give more impressions. This may spoil something, or I may be very wrong in my speculations. Don't tell me yet if I am.

Rat Queen says "Do you remember hunger?" in response to the earlier Writer narration.

Camera item says something about the character looking off on film. "I think you must have moved. You just don't look quite yourself." Did the camera capture two people? Is one sibling literally haunting the other sibling? They're deliberately being cagey about which one died, though I'm fairly sure it was the sister. The Writer was using a singular They when talking about the actor before. Ugh. I don't get how some people who liked the first LoF didn't like this one.

What are these gramophone cylinders? Who is speaking?

In the cabin, it said put on the mask. Then the items keep saying that they don't recognize me and some of the mannequins are wearing masks. I think it's being pretty clear about actors, performing, trauma, various types of masking. If LoF1 was the Freudian game, then this one seems like the Jungian game. Idk if that will fully hold up. But as far as what it means for the literal events of the story, not sure yet.

Director: "No man is an island, but one can become a vessel to carry the flame of another." I mean...

Also I'm tired of seeing comments like "mannequins aren't scary bro. This game overuses mannequins."

I blew up the "city." Director is furious according to the note from my agent. Did I miss that Black Wanderer poster? Could I have picked it up?

So it seems so far that... The sister, Lily, died, either while they were stowing away on a ship or after. No idea what they were running from that they snuck aboard. Did she starve and allow James to escape? And then there's this implication that James was jealous of her strength, so when he became older, maybe he pretended to have it and became our famous actor using her confidence. Or something. Or maybe it's more sinister. Maybe he killed her, or consumed her, or something. Although I think his guilt may be more along the lines of living her life after she died, rather than actually ending it. Idk.

Who is the director, and why does he know all there is to know? He keeps prompting me to bury the sister and show... my true self? Who seems to be more than just the little boy.

Also what the fuuhhhh there are now breadcrumbs of a definitive lore?? Who wrote THESE rat notes??

My favorite image so far is when I turned around right before leaving the engine room and saw the two mannequins holding hands through the bars that blocked my way back.

you'd think after a main criticism of Layers of Fear was restating the collective exhaustion toward psychological horror that revolves around a whiny abusive dad/husband wallowing in his guilt-demons, they wouldn't have that be the plot device Yet Again for LoF2, and yet,

I will say, I love Layers of Fear 2023, but it's not a replacement for the first two games. I view it as supplementary. It adds details, clarifies, ties everything together - but the first two should be played first. They stand on their own, and the story will make more sense when you have that info in the back of your mind while playing the new game.

#also the pacing in the new game can be a little off #so best to play lof1 and 2 first and then come to enjoy this #lof ramblings #I suppose for very casual players just getting 2023 works for them #but I think that's doing a disservice to the story if you only are reading the extra notes instead of the full essay

Sorry, I didn’t see this until now because I rarely use Tumblr on desktop these days and I don’t get notifications about messages on mobile. But yeah, Layers of Fear is great! I’ve made it through the first 2 chapters, but I’m taking a break now because I’m dogsitting for my parents in the suburbs and I’m too scared to play a horror game while I’m alone in the big house :D I think my favorite (and the worst) thing about LoF is the way the surroundings change around you. It makes me so paranoid! I’m always afraid to turn around and look behind my back after I was jumped by a creepy painting out of nowhere. That shit was just hovering behind my back!
