Tumblr is struggling right now.

I know a lot of veteran users are a bit nervous; that we'll lose the one 'typical internet hellsite' to the 'capitalist hell' that has taken over most other popular media sites.

But that is exactly why it is INCREDIBLY important to educate the new users, and not just, try to scare them off. Education is the biggest way to gain allies and keep the site as we like it.

The site with blogs based on creativity; on stories. On art and writing and music, and NOT advertisement and force-fed content lacking critical thinking.

It's going to take a lot of energy, I know. And it's a serious pain in the ass that this has happened during NANO, of all times. But if we want to keep our safe space, it's necessary.

So if you see a user follow you, and they have nothing to their blog, give them the benefit of the doubt. Tell them about how NOT to look like a bot, and direct them to some tumblr guides.

Educate users on why we like this site, and what we can do to keep the freedom we have. And why that freedom is a good thing.

Our strongest defense is education.

Please, please reblog this, along with any and all guides you find. Share resources on other platforms. Send them to your non-tumblr friends.

“There’s something you need to know, dearest Salima.” Janvier’s smile became a little too wide for Sellie’s liking, her hand gripping just a little too tight to her cheek. Her nails dug into the surface of her skin. All of her hair, flowing and crimson nearly draped over Sellie as if ready to drown her.

Not like Sellie could run. She wanted to.

She didn’t have to say a word - Janvier already knew. 

“The eyes and ears can be fooled, but the spirit never lies.”

She released Sellie from that crimson, never releasing her gaze until she turned on her heel.

It took several hours to feel like she could properly breathe again.

Hi Locke!! Thanks for the ask! I'm not doing NaNo, but I've been having a good month so far anyways!! Last night I watched an episode of Critical Role and stayed up until midnight playing the sims, so I was having a great time! <3

(also @careful-pyromancer this is for you since you also asked about Squish!!)

Alright, for Squish:

People tend to assume that she isn't intelligent. Being an animal and particularly looking like a large slug, people tend to assume that she's not smart, or doesn't think or feel. But that is most definitely not the case. She is very clever, and definitely has thoughts and emotions, specifically relating to Dorian and Ash.

People also assume that she can't make any noise, seeing as she looks like a large slug. That is also incorrect. She has a mouth and she can scream. She squeaks, chirps, and screams to communicate. (and maybe purrs??)

After seeing her for a little bit, people assume that she's Ashlin's pet, which is kind of true?? She is very attached to Ash, and gets separation anxiety if removed from them from a long period of time. (though she'll settle for Dorian since he spoils her with cheese.) However, she was not an intentionally domesticated (or even intentionally acquired) animal.

I know you wanted questions on the resource page,,, but this just immediately popped into my head and I HAVE to ask;

Do you often combine psychological horror with religion? And if so, what are your favorite ways to do so, or see in media?

I myself am not religious, nor do I have anything against it, but I do find the history of catholicism and christianity a fascinating topic when it comes to horror!!

i'm actually so glad you asked this! i'm going at this from a christian angle (the "god" i'll be referring to is the christian god from the bible)

first of all, major trigger warning in here for anti-religion/anti-christian language, religious trauma, cults.

i think psychological horror so often includes religious aspects because it is a common psychological conflict in people's minds. is there a god? if there is, will i be punished for doing things he deems wrong? what does he consider right and wrong, and what's unforgivable? if i do this, will i suffer in hell forever? can i do enough good things to save me from this fate? etc. etc.

i grew up in a christian cult and only got out about a decade ago, so a lot of the time i use my stories to work through some of that sweet, sweet religious trauma. it's hard to talk about in person, so i choose to write through it. it's extremely cathartic.

nothing anti-christianity or falsely representing christianity can remotely offend me because of the damage it's done in my life, so i eat up religious tropes like cake. my favorite subjects and tropes in psychological horror that have to do with religion are: reading "the latin" to set fate in motion (evil dead, the cabin in the woods, etc.), demonic possession (the exorcist, the exorcism of emily rose, etc.), anything to do with cults (midsommar, last shift, etc.), is it mental illness or demons? (hereditary), satanic panic (the babysitter), human sacrifices (jennifer's body, apostle), a kid that's the antichrist or at least Evil (the omen), eldritch gods (the ritual)... yeah, you can say i have a type.

the stories i'm working on that have at least one religious theme (all my stories except for one lol):

god exits: a fallen angel tries to find why god has abandoned him;

the incident in ashford, nebraska: a doomsday cult gets it right for once (maybe...?);

the mosaic children: a messianic cult must sacrifice a child a year to appease an ancient eldritch god;

protest the sky: humans stuck in purgatory try to find whoever is in charge to change their mind; and

twisted stitiches: heheheh, you'll see.

I've been super busy lately with organizing my characters, and as I was working, I had the idea to make a notion template based on my own masterlist. The template includes a general masterlist page and a character sheet template. There are two versions available with different fonts for legibility vs. aesthetic.

FEATURES: Applies to both.

Menu: Two toggle lists, one for extra documents (such as relationship info, family dynamics, etc.) and one for links (such as pinterest, spotify, world anvil, etc.) Legend: Color-coded tiers to show progress on character toggles. Pages Database: A table + gallery view of expanded character pages. To Do: A to-do list for things relating to your characters. Character Toggles: Organized by world/universe/planet, then race, and finally name. This section is so you can easily see a list of your characters + quick details all on one page, rather than in a laggy, 30-page google doc or folders within folders. Customization: I have provided links to the font generators, brackets, and image websites I used so that you may change the page to your liking.

HOW TO USE: - Once opened in notion, click into the sidebar on the left side. - Click the three dots directly beside the current page - Hit 'duplicate' - All done!

So we all know my book baby, Call Me Icarus. Well, he's got a face now! May I present to you the cover reveal for Δάιος, the first book in the Call Me Icarus trilogy:

For those of y'all who don't know, Δάιος is an Anti-Establisment grimdark retelling of the fall of Icarus as he looks behind the curtain of the Elysian Program and sees the disgusting framework he was disillusioned to. Now, the only thing on his mind is burning the program to the ground, but will he be able to when the world (and his body) is set against him?

I spent like 4-5 hours messing around in Notion last night and today. This was the result.

Pics 1-3 are the main page, and pics 4-6 are the character template that would be for the character pages in the table in pic 3. (The character page section was HIGHLY inspired by @lockejhaven 's character masterlist, which you can find here.)
