How to Choose the Right Furnace for Your Home
Whether you're considering purchasing a new furnace to combat cold weather or need a replacement, choosing the right one involves carefully considering your home's specific needs, budget constraints, and long-term goals. Homeowners must evaluate these factors and explore available options to make an informed decision that ensures comfort and efficiency throughout the colder months. Here are a few factors to consider when selecting the best furnace for your home and needs.
Understanding Your Heating Needs
Before diving into furnace options, it is essential to assess your specific heating needs. Think about the size of your property, the climate in your area, and any specific requirements you may have. As a general rule, larger homes or those in colder climates might benefit from a high-capacity furnace, whereas smaller homes situated in warmer climates may find a more moderate option sufficient for their needs.
Types of Furnaces: Gas, Electric, or Oil?
Homes in the USA are heated up in four primary ways: natural gas, electricity, propane, and fuel oil. In turn, there are different types of furnaces to choose from, each with its pros and cons. Gas furnaces are popular for their efficiency and cost-effectiveness, with electric and oil furnaces being viable alternatives. Electric furnaces are generally more straightforward to install, while oil furnaces may be preferred in areas where oil is readily accessible.
Upfront and Operational Costs
Those who are careful about their budget need to consider both the upfront and operational costs when selecting their new furnace. Gas furnaces often have lower upfront costs compared to electric or oil furnaces. However, operational costs should also be factored in. While electric furnaces may have lower upfront costs, they could lead to higher monthly bills depending on where you live and your utilities provider. Consider the long-term cost implications to make an informed decision that complements your long-term financial goals.
Ductwork Compatibility
Before committing to a specific furnace, assess your home's existing ductwork. If you already have a duct system in place, it might be more cost-effective to choose a furnace that is compatible with it. However, if you're open to making changes or upgrades, ensure the furnace suits your ductwork requirements.
Future Maintenance and Warranty
Maintenance requirements and warranty coverage for your chosen furnace are important considerations. Regular maintenance is necessary for optimum performance and longevity. Look for furnaces that come with comprehensive warranties, as they provide peace of mind and can save you money on potential repairs in the long run. If you do need professional assistance, make sure you consult a licensed technician. Those in need of a Salt Lake City furnace repair can reach out to one of the many services in the area. Any of the professional businesses will have a fully qualified team that will be able to deal with any of your furnace needs.
Consider Efficiency Ratings
For eco-conscious homeowners, efficiency is a key factor to consider when choosing a furnace. Look out for the AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating. This rating is an indicator of the percentage of fuel the furnace converts into heat. Higher AFUE ratings signify better efficiency.

Is Ocala Florida A Good Place To Live?
Tumblr media
Nestled in the heart of Florida, Ocala is a city that boasts a small-town charm and a rich equestrian history.
With a rapidly growing population of approximately 60,000 people, Ocala is a mid-sized city that provides a balance of urban conveniences and a relaxed lifestyle.
With more and more people relocating to the sunshine state, Ocala has become an attractive option.
But the question remains…is Ocala Florida, a good place to live? In this post, we’ll explore the city’s pros and cons to help you make an informed decision about whether Ocala is the right fit for you.
First, lets take a look at some of the positives associated with the town.
Family Friendly Located in huge Marion County, Ocala nonetheless has a small-town feel.
First of all, there is a noticeable community spirit. Folks know each other and still wave and speak when meeting.
Another huge plus is that there isn’t any hardcore traffic congestion. Like other, more urban parts of the state such as Orlando.
Next, everything is accessible. Just hop in your car. A mere 25 minute drive can get you across the entire city area.
Not a city person. Take a short drive to exit the city limits and the surroundings turn rural.
In case you are looking to invest in farmland or find some acreage to build a house on, there are plenty of options.
Finally, the crime rate is low and there are a ton of great school options.
So, as far as raising a family goes, this is a great choice.
Enviable Cost Of Living You won’t have to break your budget by moving to Ocala as the cost of living here is very reasonable.
According to BestPlaces.net, the overall cost of living is about 17% less than the Florida average.
The median home value is the largest contributor to the savings as housing prices are approximately 35% less compared to the rest of Florida.
One of the biggest draws to moving to Florida in general is the tax situation.
No State Income Taxes Just by deciding to move to any city in Florida, you can save on taxes.
Because while you will still pay federal income taxes here, there is NO state income tax.
Depending on what state you are moving from, and how much money you make, this savings can be substantial.
Plenty Of Fun Things To See And Do Ocala enjoys some big town amenities such as:
Tons of shopping An eclectic collection of restaurants A downtown square A historic district Several upscale movie theaters
One of the biggest attractions in the city is the annual “Light Up Ocala” celebration. It kicks off the holiday season with a tree lighting ceremony that attracts thousands.
There is also a thriving art community here and that passion is evident in the “Fine Arts For Ocala Art Festival”, the Appleton Museum of Art, the Reilly Arts Center, and the Ocala Civic Theater.
Outdoor Activities For outdoor lovers, Ocala is a great place to live.
One of the most popular outdoor destinations in the city is the Ocala National Forest.
This vast forest, which spans more than 600 square miles, is home to a variety of wildlife, such as black bears, white-tailed deer, and bald eagles. Many walking and biking trails can be found throughout the forest, providing plenty of possibilities to enjoy the outdoors.
The Florida Trail, which traverses the state for more than 1,000 miles, and the Salt Springs Observation Trail, which provides breathtaking views of the forest and its wildlife, are two of the most well-known routes.
If you enjoy the water, Ocala offers a lot of options for kayaking and canoeing. With its clean waters and a variety of species, the Silver River State Park is a very popular paddling location. When you paddle along the river, you might even see a couple of manatees.
Or you can visit one of the numerous local lakes for a day of swimming or fishing for a more relaxed experience.
In addition, there are plenty of parks and gardens to explore in Ocala for those who prefer a slower pace.
Families could visit the Tuscawilla Park and Discovery Center, which features playgrounds, a splash pad, and educational exhibits. Another well-liked location is the Sholom Park, which has 44 acres of tranquil landscapes and winding walking pathways.
Finally, there is a thriving golf community. with numerous local courses for students of every ability level.
Horses And Horse Farms Ocala is known as the Horse Capital of The World. Although some in Kentucky would argue that point, the city is indeed a hotbed for horse-related activities.
Most importantly, Ocala is home to the World Equestrian Center. It was constructed in 2021 and is the largest equestrian complex in the United States.
Furthermore, in the rural areas. You will find miles and miles of beautiful horse farms.
Horse related events such as riding, training, and competition are a weekly occurrence here.
Finally, many people work in the equine industry here in one capacity or another.
Excellent Location Ocala is located in Central Florida which is the perfect place to be.
Why? Located right off the interstate, the town is only a little over an hour drive from the tourist capital of the world, Orlando. Here you can enjoy the best theme parks, water parks, fine dining, professional sports, fantastic nightlife and more.
A mere hour and a half drive will land you in the most famous beach on the planet, Daytona Beach.
Or perhaps you fancy the west coast of the state? Well, again, it is only an hour and a half drive to the Gulf of Mexico.
Metropolitan areas such as Jacksonville and Tampa are two hours away.
The University of Florida with all the things a college town offers is a mere 45 minutes to the North.
And while all these are amazing places and easy to get to, they have problems that Ocala doesn’t.
Health Care Ocala has some excellent health care facilities. Some of the options include:
The HCA Florida Ocala Hospital which is a top destination for cardiac care.
Next, HCA Florida West Marion Hospital, which is notable for its orthopedic care.
Finally, there is UF Health Shands Hospital in nearby Gainesville. A highly regarded teaching hospital. It is associated with the University of Florida Medical School.
The Weather So what is the number one reason people move to Florida? sunshine
The weather.
Living in Ocala means that you won’t have to worry about winter. Because the temperature very rarely drops below 40 degrees.
It is a researched fact that sunshine makes people feel better, hence the large senior population.
Hurricane Protection In addition to its pleasant weather and family-friendly atmosphere, Ocala, Florida is renowned for its prime storm protection.
Ocala is less likely to be directly struck by hurricanes or tropical storms because it is located further inland than other coastal cities.
Ocala is also less likely to flood due to its location, making it a safer spot to live during hurricane season.
The location of Ocala is one of the strongest arguments as to why it is a good place to live.
Conclusion Ocala, Florida, is a city that offers a plethora of attractions and amenities for residents and visitors alike.
From its natural beauty and outdoor activities to its excellent hurricane protection and small-town charm, Ocala has something to offer everyone.
So, whether you’re a retiree looking for a peaceful place to settle down or a family seeking a thriving community with plenty of opportunities, Ocala, Florida, is definitely worth considering.

Buying a Home in Salt Lake City? 5 Tips for Finding the Perfect Option
Tumblr media
Are you looking for homes for sale near Salt Lake city? Then you're set to discover one of the best cities in America to live in. As Utah's capital, Salt Lake City offers affordable housing, low crime rates, excellent job opportunities, and plenty of outdoor recreational activities. Before you start the home search process, it's essential to take some time to plan and strategize. Here are five tips to help you find the perfect home in Salt Lake City.
Work With a Top-Notch Real Estate Agent:
Finding a reputable real estate agent should be your top priority. Realtors with excellent market knowledge about Salt Lake City can identify neighborhoods that meet your needs and budget. A good realtor will have excellent negotiation skills when making an offer, finding the best mortgage rates, and helping you navigate the legal process of closing a home. So, be sure to research and hire an experienced and licensed real estate agent to work with you through the buying process.
Determine Your Priorities:
What do you want in homes for sale near Salt lake city? List your must-haves, size, location, number of rooms, and amenities. Prioritizing your list of necessities can help you and your real estate agent narrow your search and find your dream home that ticks most, if not all, of your boxes.
Visit Your Top Picks, and Attend Open Houses:
Once you have identified your ideal neighborhoods, it is essential to visit each one and take the time to explore each home that meets your needs. Visiting each district can give you a feel for the community, its ambiance, safety, and how welcoming it is. Additionally, you'll be able to speak with the neighbors and learn about the school district and local amenities. You can also attend open houses in the area to see more options and make comparisons, focus on the pros and cons of each home, and get an idea of what the houses in these neighborhoods are worth.
Budget and Financing:
Purchasing homes for sale near salt lake city is a significant investment, so you must consider your budget and financing. Knowing your budget can help save you valuable time in your search for homes, increasing your chances of finding a house that suits your financial plan. Before looking at homes for sale in Salt Lake City, clearly understand how much you'd like to spend. Also, consider your financing options, including how much mortgage you'll need, your loan rates, and the down payment. Speak with a mortgage lender and get pre-approved, which shows sellers that you're a serious buyer.
Inspection and Appraisal:
Ensure you have each home you're considering inspected to know any hidden damage that might affect the value of a property. The appraisal will help you identify the market value of homes in the neighborhood and prevent you from overpaying for a property. Additionally, an inspection will reveal any repairs required, giving you an idea of the potential costs once you own the house.
Invest in Tech and Environmentally-Friendly Homes:
Today, tech and environmentally-friendly homes for sale near salt lake city are a great investment. Making sure your home is energy efficient and installing the latest smart technology can help you save on monthly bills while adding value to your property. Converting to solar energy, investing in energy-efficient HVAC systems, and upgrading insulation are some ways to make your home better for the environment.
Make an Offer:
Once you have found the perfect home, it's time to make an offer. Your real estate agent can help with this process by advising on how much to offer and negotiating for the best deal. After both parties agree, you'll be ready to finalize all legal paperwork and close the deal.
Close the Deal:
The last step in buying a home is closing the deal. Once all the paperwork has been signed, you'll be ready to move into your new home. Throughout this process, working with an experienced real estate agent and specialists like a mortgage lender who can guide you through every step and ensure the process goes smoothly is essential. Buying homes for sale near salt lake city doesn't have to be stressful if you take your time and plan carefully. You can find the perfect home for you and your family with patience and proper guidance.
Conclusion:
Purchasing homes for sale near Salt Lake City can be an exciting experience if you follow our five tips. From hiring a reputable real estate agent to determining your priorities and budget, it's crucial to research and plan before starting your search. Taking your time to find the right home for you will benefit you in years to come. So, take the time to find homes for sale near Salt Lake city that meet your lifestyle, budget, and other preferences.

What to Consider While Finding New Homes for Sale Near me in Salt Lake City and Herber City
Are you looking for a new home in the wonderful state of Utah? If so, there are many things to consider while narrowing down your search. This blog post will provide tips on what to consider while finding new homes for sale near me in Salt Lake City and Herber City. From climate and geography to schools and job opportunities, we will cover all the bases of what makes these two great cities ideal places to live.
Location, Location, Location
When you're looking for new homes for sale, it's important to consider the location. You want to find a place that's close to the things that are important to you, whether that's work, school, or family. Salt Lake City and Herber City are both great places to live. They offer a variety of housing options, from apartments and townhomes to single-family homes. There are also a number of different neighborhoods to choose from, so you can find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.
The Right Size
There are a few things to keep in mind while you search for new homes for sale near you. The first is size. How big of a house do you need? How many bedrooms and bathrooms? Do you need a home office or an extra room for guests? Once you have a good idea of the size of home you need, you can start your search.
The Right Style
There are a lot of things to consider when finding new homes for sale near you. The first thing you need to decide is what style of house you are looking for. Do you want a traditional home, a modern home, or something in between? There are pros and cons to each style, so it's important to figure out what is most important to you before beginning your search.
Traditional homes are typically more expensive than modern homes, but they also tend to appreciate value more over time. If you're looking for a home that will be a good investment, a traditional-style home is a good choice. Traditional homes also tend to have more character and charm than newer homes. If you're looking for a home with personality, a traditional-style home is a way to go.
Modern homes are often more affordable than traditional homes, but they may not appreciate value as much over time. If you're looking for a starter home or an investment property, a modern-style home is a good option. Modern homes also tend to be more energy-efficient than older homes, which can save you money on your utility bills. If you're looking for a home that is environmentally friendly, a modern-style home is the way to go. There should be a detailed discussion about the right style with your New Home Builder Park City.
The Right Budget
The next thing to consider is your down payment. This is the money you'll need to put down upfront before getting a mortgage. The larger your down payment, the lower your monthly mortgage payments will be. But don't stretch yourself too thin - remember, you'll still need money for things like moving costs and furnishing your new home.  The down payment amount should be decided with a Utah Custom Home Builder after consulting a banking organization.  Finally, think about what kind of monthly payments you're comfortable with. Keep in mind that your mortgage payment isn't the only expense you'll have - you'll also need to pay for things like property taxes, insurance, and utilities. Make sure your budget can comfortably handle all of these costs before making an offer on a new home.

The job market and the economy: what does the money look like in Ohio? And, we can’t forget about Cedar Point… the roller coaster capital of the world… it has set a world record with 71 rides and 17 roller coaster that will scare the living daylights out of you. Thousands of folks visit the island every year to ride around on golf carts, eat great food and drink. It’s called Put-in-Bay, and it sits in Lake Erie. For example, there is an entire island dedicated to total awesomeness. Then, of course, Ohio is filled with little gems scattered across the state. For one, the state has some pretty stellar cities in Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus (more on all of those down below) and it offers a relatively reasonable cost of living, even in the larger cities that we just named. So, we’ll just highlight the most impressive aspects about the state. The list of pros of moving to Ohio could go on forever. But, and this is a very big but, they’re making a comeback… in 2016 the Cavaliers won the NBA championship and Baker Mayfield looks like he might be the QB the Browns have been waiting for. And, while there are a lot of great things about it, the winter’s are as cold as your ex-lover, and the sport’s teams have had a history of being quite bad. Their reasoning for Ohio being the third worst? And we quote, “Getting LeBron back only further cemented its position as the Florida of the North.” Come on guys you’ve got to give us something better than that…Īnyway, we’re not blind, Ohio isn’t perfect. As you can imagine, this hurt Ohioans… and to rub some serious salt in the wound, The Thrillest named Ohio’s arch-nemesis… Michigan as the “best state” in the United States.
#BELLHOP MOVERS CINCINNATI PROFESSIONAL#
The cons of moving to Ohio… the cold weather and the professional sports teams.Ī good while back, The Thrillist ranked Ohio as the thirst worst state in the United States, behind Florida at position number one and Delaware at the number two spot. We’ll give you the bad news first, that way we can end with the good stuff. Thankfully, the good heavily outweighs the bad in The Buckeye State. What are the pros and cons of moving to Ohio?Īs with any state, there are some great aspects about Ohio, and then there are some not so great ones. This longing for flight seems to be a gene unique to Ohioans… twenty-five of NASA’s astronauts hail from The Buckeye State… and yes, this includes Neil Armstrong. Wilbur and Orville Wright, the fathers of flight, were born and raised in Dayton, Ohio where together they dreamed of putting a man in the air. It’s ironic to hear folks call Ohio a “Flyover state” because if they have ever stepped foot in a plane, they have the “Flyover State” to thank. Not to mention, many Ohioans claim that their state does “Autumn” the best… a quick Google search, and we can’t argue with them. But, Ohio’s stunning natural landscape is just the beginning of the many aspects that make this state a hidden gem in the Midwest. Ohio as a whole lives up to Churchill’s bold statement, decorated picture perfectly with tiny towns, lovely foliage, waterfalls (and more waterfalls), flowing rivers and streams and 110 natural lakes. When Winston Churchill paid Ohio a visit, he fell in love with what he saw in Cincinnati, the third largest city in the state, describing it as, “the most beautiful of the inland cities of the union.” To say Ohio is breathtaking is an understatement. Ohio… Autumn looks dang good on you.Īnyone who has ever called Ohio a “Flyover State” finds themselves eating their words if they ever visit. Looking for Long Distance Columbus Movers? A Brief Overview of Ohio 1. Kick your feet up and let’s explore the incredible state of Ohio (oh, and by way of introduction, we’re Bellhop-Cincinnati movers, Cleveland movers, Columbus movers, Hamilton movers and movers throughout the country). Regardless, we’re glad you’re here, and we have a lot to share with you. If you’re reading this right now, you’re either considering moving to Ohio or you just really love learning about new states. That’s why we’ve created this blog to answer all your questions about Ohio, in hopes that it will become your next adventure! Especially if you don’t know what it has to offer. If you are considering moving to Ohio, you might have some concerns. Is moving to Ohio right for you? We’re here to help you figure that out.

The images from Anime Expo scare me.
Tumblr media
Above is an image of the lobby of the Los Angeles Convention Center when I attended Anime Expo in 2017. I’ll talk more about this below, but as irritating as that large a crowd can be, it didn’t make me feel too unsafe–definitely due to me having my privileges, worrying little over how accessibility affects me personally and, honestly, being too naive when it comes to how I would get out of there in case of a fire or other emergency.
That image above doesn’t look too different from how Anime Expo looks now.
This weekend is the 2022 Anime Expo–and that same lobby looked just as crowded after the attendees were let in but before the sales floor and other rooms at the convention finally opened. Between 2017 and now has been COVID, and while I appreciate Anime Expo requiring masks and vaccination, without social distancing, better ventilation, and a smaller turn-out, I would not feel safe there and would spend the next two weeks, at least, panicking that I caught COVID.
Granted, as people commenting about the crowded lobby at Anime Expo 2022 pointed out, once the doors opened to the merchandise booths and artist alley, the lobby was now less crowded, so that helps…but now the merchandise booths were crowded, so that doesn’t help.
And granted, my fears about COVID have weighed on my mind a lot since 2020.
Before 2020, I used to travel a lot.
It wasn’t just a part of my jobs, first as a teacher, then as a conference organizer–it was part of the academic profession.
College teachers and independent scholars are expected to present frequently each year at conferences; the expectation I set for myself was one conference per year, one per semester if time allowed for it.
After numerous presentations at both regional and national conventions, in fields of literature, comics, and popular culture, on topics including domesticity and masculinity in nineteenth-century literature, gender disparities in anime, and serialization in superhero cinematic narratives, I supplemented my work with positions helping to support and organize conventions.
In addition to teaching, writing, and publishing, I had a busier schedule: as an administrative assistant and marketing coordinator for a convention, I was promoting local events, advertising deadlines, and facilitating reimbursements and payments for guest speakers. When I left the position, I had probably done almost every job possible related to the convention–as just about any administrative assistant does.
These conference opportunities took me across a lot of the US and Canada: Vancouver, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Austin, San Antonio, Chicago, Ottawa, Toronto, Hanover, Boston, Hartford, New York City, New Brunswick, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC.
I stayed at hotels, crashed on couches. I dined at restaurants, grabbed protein bars at pharmacies near the hotel, or rushed to any free coffee and brunch offered.
This work and these travels were hectic, but they did satisfy a lot of my ambitions. I wish I had advanced more in my positions working at conventions, and I do think there were opportunities I should have pursued, or unoffered positions that I was qualified to have handled. Regardless how stressful the work could be, at least there were customers who personally thanked me for satisfying their requests, and supervisors who appreciated my support in helping them complete their tasks–and opportunities to get to see places far from home and gain new experiences from my travels.
Then COVID happened.
Before I dwell on negatives, I do want to acknowledge how much I appreciate academic groups that have fostered online conventions and forums, not only during the beginning of the pandemic but up to today, as we are still in this awful pandemic, and maybe of those conventions and forums remain free to watch live or on demand.
I’m not about to do pros and cons about whether in-person conventions or virtual conventions are better: again, we’re in a pandemic, and skipping ahead in my argument, I do not feel comfortable risking my health for what, like an in-person convention, seems completely unnecessary for my personal career advancement and knowledge-gain when virtual conventions provide me with most of the same opportunities. I am seeking remote work opportunities (shameless plug: any job leads–in remote teaching, writing, editing, or convention labor and organization–emailed to [email protected] are appreciated). So, at least for right now where I am professionally, virtual conventions seem more responsible and safer at limiting the chances I get COVID and at limiting the chance I spread the virus.
But while I appreciate what virtual conventions offer, COVID itself has robbed me of a lot–all far less important than the harm it has done to people’s health, including the lives we have lost to it, and the needless social, economic, and political damage it has done due to corporations price-gouging and rightwing politicians who not only spread lies to demotivate people from vaccinating and engaging in social distancing but also perpetuate this hellscape without providing a basic income and services to make up for the opportunities this virus has taken away from us.
Immediately after COVID happened, there was no more travel for me–no more seeing colleagues and friends and, for a long time, family, and no opportunities during off-time to see what new convention host cities had to offer in attractions, history, research, dining, and shopping. Pretty much all of this stays the same now: as I’ll talk about below, any travel I have done has been for taking care of my family’s health, and the only times I have gone out for the last three years have been to handle financial and legal matters after my father’s passing, to get vaccinated, to pick up mail from the PO box (on Sundays when no one is there), and to do curbside pick-up from grocery stores. No visits to museums, no seeing movies in theaters–and no conventions, whether they be academic, comic books, anime, or fan-oriented.
Immediately after COVID, now my work in convention organizing was primarily from home.
And, towards the end of my tenure, fighting for that privilege to work from home was a struggle.
I had to fight to protect myself from working again in an office before I was fully vaccinated. And I was having to fight for this protection at a time when employees at my university were not mandated to be vaccinated. (However, at least the students were required to be vaccinated, barring exemptions.) And I doubt masking would have been enforced where I worked to a degree that would have satisfied me: in the last years in my previous position, my office was in a freaking music hall–the surrounding offices were checked out to undergrads practicing on the sax or brass instruments, so I am certain I would have been scared out of my wits as more and more exhalation out of musical instruments circulated around and around my hallway and into my office where you couldn’t even open the windows for ventilation.
(Forgive this lengthy aside, but we really should have any work that can be done from home done from home. We can limit the spread of this goddamn virus. We can manage limited resources to help protect the environment and savie the time and money of employees from a gas-guzzling commute. And we open up more opportunities for people who cannot work in the office to help our organizations, especially to help our conferences include more presentations done remotely. We have this opportunity to employ more people whose schedules and commitments mean they can’t work in an office, and we hire more people who have previously been–and still are–barred by our refusal to provide accessibility to them because we instead prefer to keep up barriers against people with disabilities. But this is a lengthy digression suitable for another post.)
So, I was working from home, and I was to be rehired and expected to return to work in the office. Even with COVID continuing, I was expected to come back to work in that office, at a university that was going to see a significant increase in bodies present on campus as teaching moved from virtual back to the classroom. I would have to get back onto the public light rail, back onto the public bus, wind back through the halls, all to get back to an office to do the work I could just as easily do from home, and that could just as easily be monitored by my supervisors remotely without me having to be in that office.
So, when I look at that 2017 photo of Anime Expo, my panic is personally less about how that crowd in that lobby today in 2022 would be a potential super-spreader, and more about imagining how many of those people are going to go back onto public light rail, back onto public buses, back through neighborhoods, back into offices, and potentially bring COVID and its variants back to their neighbors, coworkers, and families.
And I think all of that about Anime Expo, rather than returning to the office at my job, because I’m no longer in that job.
In the midst of the COVID pandemic, the contract for my previous position was not renewed, which further limited any experience I would have with in-person conventions.
That doesn’t mean I haven’t traveled: as I said, I have had to take care of tasks after my dad passed. But I can’t look at the stage of this pandemic, and our refusal to take care of people traveling on planes and other mass transportation, and think that any of these conventions are preferable to virtual conventions. I know, if I had to travel to Anime Expo this weekend, I would be a bundle of nerves–because I already was just traveling to see family to take care of so much still after Dad passed away.
My fears have only increased in number after that shithead judge in my home state of Florida kneecapped the CDC from doing its fucking job. Jesus Christ, of course a mask is going to help control a disease: only the most manipulative of communicators would abuse a language like English to say that the mask only contains the disease, not sanitize the air.
But I’ll have more to say another time–because this was supposed to be a post about conventions and what they can do in light of COVID.
And while I want to pursue work helping organize conventions, I don’t have advice about in-person conventions, because my advice would be “make it virtual.”
And that really sucks, because while I have a lot of experience helping to put together virtual conventions and have presented at them, much more of my experience in my life has been at in-person conventions–something that I just don’t know how to do safely during a pandemic.
I wish I could type advice for how to navigate travel, sessions, presenting, and vendors spaces like I did for pre-COVID times.
But I’m out of my depth on this one.
I’m not a medical doctor, I’m not a specialist in pandemics, and my travel has been exceedingly limited–traveling between New York and Florida to help take care of my mom after my dad passed away.
I’m just lucky I have not yet tested positive for COVID: I have had a total of three vaccine shots, and I double-masked on my first flight and wore an N-95 and goggles on all subsequent flights.
But despite my precautions, I have to imagine that nothing I do will be a 100-percent guarantee against contracting this virus. And looking at this weekend’s photos of Anime Expo, I’m not comfortable entering that space this year–or, really, any crowded spaces at this time.
I’m not going to talk about stuff I have only read about as allegedly happening at Anime Expo: I’m not there–the guests, vendors, and speakers can share their experiences about whether people are masking, and whether vaccination status is being checked.
But I can speak to what I can see, and that is the lobby to the Los Angeles Convention Center.
I can’t say I felt the same sense of dread as others when they saw all those attendees in the lobby packed together like sardines.
I don’t mean that such a crowded room doesn’t make me fear the potential for the super-spreader: look at that photo, you know that we can do better at spacing people out, at better ventilating that space, at enforcing masking to limit the spread of COVID–all of that can and should be done. And this failure to do so is abhorrent and just one of many reasons, as I hope is clear right now, why I try to avoid going to crowded places.
(And, when I am stuck on a plane or in an airport, have masked up, goggled up, triangulated my position to stand equidistant from any airport passerbys, contorted my body until my face is practically pressed against the airplane window because the jackass seated next to doesn’t mask up their fucking face).
But the reason I don’t feel that same dread–again, not the dread of a super-spreader, that is obvious, but the dread of a crowd–is that, as much as those crowds annoy me, piss me off, irritate me, exhaust me…despite all of that, I have dealt with these crowds enough that, I’m not going to call them fond memories, but they are experiences I have had and learned from. I am experienced enough to have survived crowded walks through Brooklyn to get onto the subway to Long Island Railroad to take the crowded train to work and classes at Stony Brook. I’ve weaved in and out of crowds at airports to make it to my plane on time. I have passed through the crowds at Anime Expo before, as well as at other (mostly less crowded) conventions, and lived to tell the tale. So, I have my experiences getting through crowds.
But that was before COVID. Now we’re still in COVID. And I don’t think, after weaving through the crowds in the middle of this ongoing pandemic, that I would live to tell the tale.
Shameless plug again: I'm an independent scholar with a PhD in English (19th-century US literature, focus on representations of masculinity/gender). I have eight years of in-person and virtual convention organization and management experience. I blog about teaching, 19th-century American culture, comics, and anime. I'm available for remote work: teaching, copyediting, research assistance, writing, and virtual convention organizing. My CV/resume is here. Job leads emailed to [email protected] are appreciated.

6 Successful Tips for Selling Your House Fast
1. Tidy up
Seems pretty basic right? Well, presentation is always crucial. Clean up your house and repair all the small plumbing or wall damages. A useful tip is to half-empty the closest and cabinets and place them neatly as buyers will snoop. Overindulgence in repairs is a big no-no. Don't go all out in bringing out big changes because you might not get the returns on those things. Try directing light into living spaces. This will definitely brighten up your house. Make sure your house is always "show-ready" preparing you for uninformed viewing. People will never visit twice if they don't like the house initially, just as the old adage says, "The first impression is the last impression".
2. Avoid personalizing the house
While it is OK to arrange the furniture around the house, avoid personalizing the space. The place should never give the impression that someone still lives here. When you include personal items, like memorabilia, photo frames, etc., they cannot imagine themselves in that place. Just stick to arranging the furniture around the house to give the prospective buyers an idea on how to use the space and explore different layouts.
Tumblr media
3. Step in the shoes of the buyers
Try to understand what you would look for while buying a house. Try to propagate the plus of your house - be it the location, amenities or any other benefits. The kitchen plays a huge role while selecting a house. Make sure you use that well.
4. Pricing
Next up, after assessing the value of the house, including all the repairs costs, fix the right price for your home. If you have a deadline and you wish to sell your house quickly, decide upon the lowest price you can negotiate till.
5. Be ready
Always make sure your house is in a move-in condition to quicken up the shifting process. Most buyers are in a hurry to shift into their new home. If you are able to close on the home within a short period of time, it will definitely be a huge plus. For sellers looking to sell their home quickly, you have a better chance.
6. Who will sell it
You can either sell your house on your own or hire a realtor. While both have their own pros and cons, it really depends on your situation. If you are under a tight schedule and need to we buy houses fast Salt Lake City , spread the word to anyone and everyone. You might not know where you will find it helpful.

Shitloads Of Wrestling Interview: Anthony Toatele [June 12th, 2018]
Straight out of Salt Lake City, Utah, “The Flowin’ Samoan” Anthony Toatele is one of Indiana’s best kept secrets. Trained by Kongo Kong at Bodyslam University, Toatele’s popularity has risen astronomically since his debut five years ago. Along the way, the high-flying technician met his now-wife Kenzi Alexander, and with her by his side, Toatele has proven that he’s a mainstay and will be for years to come. We at SOW got this very cool interview with one of wrestling’s hottest rising stars!
SOW: Every wrestler has their Marvel Origins story on what made them go from being a common man to becoming a professional athlete. Do you remember the moment that you were struck with the idea to buy yourself some boots and tights and become a wrestler?
TOATELE: I was hooked on wrestling as a little kid. Big Hogan and Sting fan, but it was nothing more than a real life cartoon. Fast forward to the age of 12. Summer after 6th grade I’m spending it in SLC with my brother visiting my family. On a Monday night I sat down and came across WWE well F then, RAW. It was the episode where Vince McMahon asked and invited The Rock to come back to television to save the WWF from the WCW/ECW rebellion. I was intrigued, so I decided to tune in the following Monday. Then, he showed up. The Rock graced the little 16 inch TV in my grandparents bedroom and I was hooked! I wanted to be that guy and knew it. I wanted his confidence, his athletic ability, and his swagger. After that, I was all in on everything that I could do to be like The Rock. It was because of him I started playing football. Not well, but I would get better later. I did everything in my middle school years to groom myself to be a pro wrestler. I only did amateur wrestling back then because of guys like Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar. Alas, once I got to high school I figured it was just a silly dream. I watched it, but never considered it. Post-graduation in the year 2007, I had an idea to look into it. I reached out to a school who told me it would cost thousands of dollars for school. I was a broke freshman that couldn’t even make it to my classes so my answer was a quick “Thanks but no thanks”.
Eventually I got back into playing football and decided I wanted to be a professional athlete. I worked my butt off to be the best quarterback I could be. Hard to do for a kid with barely any high school experience and sitting on the couch for 2 years. I did it though getting onto semi-pro teams and indoor football teams throughout the Midwest. Couple years of that though and I realized that I was not getting younger and other players were. I decided to find something better, something more satisfying. My friend and I had been watching wrestling together when we hung out before lifting weights or going to football practice by then. He asked me if I ever considered it as a real thing. I told him not really but I would be willing to. Thanks to Google, I found Bodyslam University and Kongo Kong, with the rest being history.
SOW: When crafting your style, did you have an idea of the kind of wrestler you wanted to become? Perhaps someone you looked up to?
TOATELE: Is it over the top if I say The Rock? When I first started that was the one wrestler I leaned on as far as I style. Eventually though my pallet expanded for more styles and guys to watch and study. CM Punk, Shawn Michaels, Prince Devitt, Dolph Ziggler, and etc were guys I started to really pay attention to. SOW: You've had some very good matches against top quality talent. Are there any matches in particular that stand out as career highlights?
TOATELE: Easy. Billy Gunn and Joey Ryan. Billy was a family friend of my wife’s family. Not to mention, only of the biggest names from the Attitude Era. I wanted to prove to him that I could perform with someone of his caliber. It was the first “big name” I wrestled in front my family and friends in my city.
Joey Ryan is the other one. Joey has this great following and has done wonders to bring eyes to the independent wrestling scene. Similar to Billy, I wanted to show him and the world that I could hang with one of the top guys in wrestling at the time. Still is too!
Tumblr media
SOW: As someone who very clearly spends a lot of time in the gym, what kind of music is on your playlist to keep you motivated? Any particular artists or genres?
TOATELE: Ahh man, I hate this question when people ask me…Haha! I’m a big loser when it comes to music in the gym. Most of the time it’s wrestling theme songs. I would say the breakdown is as follows: 55% wrestling themes; 15% Hip-Hop; 15% Hardcore/ Screamo Rock; 10% EDM; 5% sweet movie soundtracks. Artists-wise though, I’ve got Drake, Lil’ Wayne, Limp Bizkit, Public Enemy, Kanye, Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khaled, Lil Jon, Outkast, and Imagine Dragons. Yeah that pretty much covers it. Oh wait, and my guys Downstait!
SOW: Correct me if I'm wrong, but professional wrestling introduced you to your wife, Kenzi. How did the two of you meet, and how did it feel to finally pop the question at Indy Pop Con?
TOATELE: You are not! We happened to be training at the same wrestling school. She was already a year in and managing her brother Kharn Alexander. One day in the hot summer of 2013, she happened to show up to a training session. There she was young, innocent, and arm in a sling due to an injury (a torn AC joint and separated collarbone). There I was looking tan, sweaty, and looking I was sculpted out of granite! HAHA! Don’t ask her about that part though, she will disagree. We ended up getting to know each other over the next year or so, and when Kharn decided to leave professional wrestling we decided to partner up. When the stars-aligned and our lives were ready for it, we decided to give dating a try.
Indy Pop Con was an experience! I was a nervous wreck going into that weekend, mainly because I knew what was on the menu Saturday. My flair for the dramatic led me to set up the proposal while we were on stage for a panel. So when it came time, I was sweating bullets. Once I popped the questions though and the waterworks started, I was ecstatic. We were married on August 12, 2017 and we haven’t looked back
Tumblr media
SOW: You've had a lot of great matches against talent both local to the area and national. What have been some of your favorite feuds, and what matches do you think were defining in those feuds?
TOATELE: The first feud that really started my career was me and Alexander S. Kirk. He wanted my girl and she didn’t want him…Classic story of a guy just not know when to quit. We had some great matches that ended with an “I Quit” match at the now defunct Strong Style Wrestling.
After that I would have to say the ongoing rivalry/ feud with Jason Saint. It, literally, has been going on for years! It started at World’s Finest Wrestling when he managed Cliff Compton vs myself with Kenzi. Then, it went to NWA – Circle City Wrestling where he managed the monster known as Zodiak. On to FWF, where I took on Adam Bueller. Finally most recently, at Wrestling Theology where I beat his man, Jeremy Hadley, to advance to the semi-finals for the heavyweight championship. Every match, every opponent Jason has put against me really has made me up my game and I think the crowd has always gotten their money’s worth with those matches.
Tumblr media
SOW: Say you won $10 million and you were given the opportunity to sign any professional wrestlers to a startup company. What matches would Anthony Toatele book himself in, featuring current stars of today's product?
TOATELE: Ahh…I see what we did here. You want me to do a list ala Cody Rhodes. Ok, let’s do this. Matches I would use my finances to put myself in (talk about heat with some of the boys if I say it like that…):
Adam Cole, Cody Rhodes, Sami Callihan, Shane Mercer, Zachary Wentz, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, The Miz, EC3, The Young Bucks, Adam Page, Jay Lethal, Myron Reed, Okada, Jake Something…
I think that is plenty of options! I would want to face guys from all over the world and from different styles and backgrounds. You don’t become the best in the world by staying on your couch.
SOW: Over the course of the next 5 years, ideally, where would you like to see Anthony Toatele and Kenzi? Do you see yourselves becoming prominent features in professional wrestling?
TOATELE: Ideally, I want to be wrestling all over the world. I think that traveling the world and meeting fans from different corners of the planet would be amazing. Depending on how small or big our family will be in 5 years will really dictate Kenzi’s schedule but I can’t imagine having some of the biggest matches in my career without her by my side. So if we have to load up all the kids, by golly we will! Our goal has always been to see how far we can take our careers in the business of professional wrestling. Wrestling is changing and fans want to get to know those involved. I think hopefully in the near future, we will have some projects that will help our fans do that.
Tumblr media
SOW: What do you think the number one draw of professional is? What do you think the biggest allure of the sport is that keeps people watching?
TOATELE: I honestly think that draw comes from the story we tell. The same themes that make successful dramas, comedies, romantic stories all of it can be found in professional wrestling under the guise of a physical competition. People can find their own favorites and connect with them.
The biggest allure of the sport is the wrestlers! Where else can you find real-life superheroes or villains combined with movie and TV stars? We as wrestlers are out there to entertain the people, and if we can do that, they will always come back. Not too many other sports give you the ability to see such well-known human themes played out in front of them involving their favorite athletes. You don’t see Tom Brady punching someone in the face for mistakenly thinking he’s coming after Gisselle. SOW: How can your fans keep up with your work on social media?
TOATELE: Easy enough! Twitter is just @anthonytoatele and the same for Instagram. Find me on Facebook and friend me, as well as give my fan page a “like”.

36.) “Why are you looking at me like that?” for cade and ave and gabby and bo. so yes, two each >:)
Cadence
Tumblr media
Cadence looked at her watch, sighed hard enough to breathe fire, and clenched her hand into a fist. It took a second for her to control the flames that shot from between her fingers before she slammed her fist against the door.
“Cisco!” She shouted, banging on his front door. The door rattled on its hinges. “Come on! We’re going to be late!” She dropped her hand from the door and waited for any sign of life from inside.
When that didn’t work, she pulled out her phone and dialed Cisco’s speed-dial number once more. Again. And again. And again. Humming, Cadence lowered her phone. What was it that’d keep Cisco from his phone. He practically lived on his phone. Not just because of the metahuman app, but because it was the quickest way for him to follow along with new memes and pop culture he showed the rest of Team Flash at a moment’s notice.
“Cisc-ooooo!”
Finally, she heard rapid footsteps coming to the door before it was flung open to reveal an angry  Cisco. He glared at her, pulling his hair back into a ponytail. Cadence smiled sweetly in response.
“Hi,  Cisco!” She lifted a hand and waved cheerfully. Completely ignoring how high she could sense his body temperature was, complete with red cheeks and and ‘I’m-going-to-kill-you!’ look in his eye.
“What. Do. You. Want?” he demanded.
What did she want? Cadence’s eyes brows rose in offense. “Um.” She gave him a pointed look. “We’re supposed to be going to the movies remember? All-day feature? We need to get to the theater in–” She cut herself off, noticing Cisco glance over his shoulder. “What’s going on?”
“I’m sort of busy,” Cisco muttered. He ran a hand through his hair–tried to, quickly running into his ponytail. “Can we do this later?”
“It’s a one day thing. And I’m not going by myself. No one else likes to talk back to the screen like you do.” Cadence pouted, sticking out her lower lip as far as she could make it go. “Please, Cisco? Please? Please?”
Cisco glanced over his shoulder once more. He sighed heavily, clearly torn. “I mean, it’s just, I have someone over and–” He stopped, noticing Cadence’s suspicious glance. Her eyes roved over the apartment, slowly shifting into her thermal vision. Okay, so there was someone there he didn’t want her to see, who could be so–?
Oh.
Cisco groaned, noticing Cadence’s eyes shift to orange. He hung his head, knowing he was caught, unable to keep the blush from his cheeks when he looked her in the eye again. “Why are you looking at me like that?” He asked.
“When did Gypsy get in?” She asked, unable to keep the sly tone from her voice. She cuoldn’t help it. Seeing a thermal image of a woman figure in Cisco’s bed–and very warm from the look of it–wasn’t something she could miss. And wasn’t something she could pass up teasing him about.
He leaned against the door frame. Looked past her. “Last night,” he mumbled then yawned.
Cadence giggled. “And I’m guessing you haven’t gotten a lot of sleep? Well, that explains why you missed my zumba class last night.”
And she laughed harder when Cisco’s blush deepened. Cadence’s inappropriate smile grew. “Well, you’ve got to get some exercise somehow.”
But she gave him a reprieve and promised to see him later. Though, he had to notice when she teleported away and he closed the door behind her, that she hadn’t said anything about not telling the others. That she hadn’t said anything about not wanting to talk about it later.
He could only imagine what was waiting for him when he got to work.
Averey
Tumblr media
If looks could kill, Caitlin Snow would be six feet under. Cold. Stiff. And as far away from any iteration of Oregon Trail as possible. Who knew a simple game night at Cisco’s apartment could result in a game to see who could make it as far through a game. With Caitlin’s “expertise” there was no way Averey would make it to the end.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Caitlin asked, frustration laden in her voice.
Averey didn’t break her harsh stare from over the top of her computer. It was Caitlin’s fault she was put in this position. Any more losses and there was no way she’d make it through to Salt Lake City.
“It’s not my fault you started sending your crew in circles,” Caitlin commented, carefully spinning the wine around in her glass.
“It’s a bloody blizzard, it’s not like they had road signs back then,” Averey said with a scowl. She lowered her voice to a defensive tone, almost pouting. “It’s not my fault the only option was to double back.”
“Just like it’s not my fault you decided to leave in the middle of winter,” Caitlin pointed out.
“It’s better to get the winter months out of the way so you’re not dealing with it at the end,” Cisco spoke up from in front of the TV where the computer was connected - projecting the game onto the bigger screen. He started counting off on his fingers. “No snake bites, no having to ford a river, no drowning–”
“But, you can still freeze to death,” Eddie pointed out. He should have been bitter. He had died quickly upon the start of the game.
“If it were up to me you would have been attacked by the natives, mate,” Averey said darkly. “Gradually warm the area. Excellent advice, Dr. Snow.”
“That is how you would treat frostbite,” Caitlin said, defensively. “I mean, rubbing snow into the affected areas?“
“It was actually used for a while back then,” Averey explained. Finally removing her stare from Caitlin, she turned back to the game. “It was a well known theory around this time until it was debunked later on. I always thought it was more homeopathic.” Using her finger, she pushed her glasses up her nose. “But even then, people had to worry about rapidly heating their travel buddies with fire because then they’d have to deal with frostbite and burns. Although, I do reckon that numbing your body part so you won’t feel the pain wouldn’t be too bad and…” She stopped talking when she realized everybody was staring at her. “What?”
“If you knew all that, why are you asking me?” Caitlin asked, throwing her hand into the air.
“You’re the doctor, mate, not me.”
Gabby
Tumblr media
“So, you have to tell me.”
“I have to tell you what?” Gabby looked at Cheryl with raised eyebrows. Weren’t they, just a minute ago, working on their history project? What in the world did she need to tell Cheryl about Ulysses S. Grant that she couldn’t already figure out from her own textbook?
“Who’s escorting you to the dance?” Cheryl asked. “We need to have the best dates.” Gabby gaped at her. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Cherry, homecoming is a few months away.”
Cheryl placed a hand to her chest. “And that’s not nearly enough time to get everything together. For our first prom, we need to make a statement.”
“Prom?!” Gabby repeated. She stared at Cheryl as if she grew a second heard. Or a triplet. Whichever came first. “Cherry, it’s September!” It was official. Cheryl Blossom, Cheryl Bombshell, Cherry Blossom, Gabby’s best friend, had finally cracked.
It was along time coming, she supposed. Her family was completely nuts with Cheryl and Jason the most sane of them all. And if that was sane, Gabby didn’t want to know what insane was.
“Yes, the month signifying change, the growth of a new harvest. And as the new captain of the River Vixens, I have to make sure I have the best piece of mindless man candy on my arm. We have a new crop of boys this year.” Cheryl waved her hand. “It’s up to us to take our pick, you can even ask Jay-Jay if you like. He’s plenty suitable.”
“’I’m not asking Jay to go with me as my date.” Gabby’s nose wrinkled. “He’s like, my brother. That’d be like dating you.”
“And I’m a catch,” Cheryl pointed out.
Gabby laughed.
Cheryl sat up straight, moving her long red hair behind her shoulders and laced her fingers together. She blinked once. “Just like cupid wrangling true love together with his arrows, I’ve compiled a list of suitable dates that we need to go through. I’ve put height and weight into consideration to us and each other–”
“–Did you mark down whether they’re friends, too?” Gabby teased. “And their hair color? Eye color? Future aspirations? Trace their family lineage? Determine if we’re going to take our last names or keep theirs? Spern count? You know,”–Gabby leaned in and whispered conspiratorially–”sperm count is really important.”
Cheryl’s eyebrows came together as she tilted her head. Not taking her eyes off her best friend, she unfolded a sheet of paper and spread it open. “Of course! I have to take all of it into consideration.”
Unfazed, Gabby laughed again. Cheryl’s antics would never get old. No matter what it was, it didn’t take long for Cheryl to get an idea and for Gabby to go along with it simply because, well, because she was Cheryl’s best friend. Her ride or die. Her sister from another mister. They’d done a blood pact to prove it. Even if I had to talk Cheryl into that one, Gabby thought, finding it ironic considering Cheryl’s favorite–and signature–color was the same crimson shade.
Gabby watched as Cheryl pushed the list into the center of their table, waving away the prying eyes of the rest of the River Vixens and started to explain the pros and cons of each of the boys on their list. As she did so, Gabby lifted her chin and looked around the library. The rest of their classmates were busy with their work; Reggie, Moose, and Midge sat at their own table, laughing quietly while Reggie and Moose played paper football. Kevin Keller sat a table away, taking obvious peeks over the top of his textbook while trying to appear inconspicuous. The rest of the football team slowly chanted louder and louder for their teammates to win. Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, and Jughead Jones sat at their own table, working quietly all the while Miss. Grundy oversaw them from the circulation desk.
Had Gabby known that a year later all that happiness would’ve been torn apart, friendships changed and tragedy would strike the town of Riverdale, she would’ve allowed herself to stay in the moment as long as she could. Now, she stood on the front lawn of Riverdale High in her leather jacket, watching her classmates swarm inside for a new school year.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
It took a moment for Gabby to realize Cheryl stood in front of her, arms folded over her chest, staring at Gabby with a flat expression. The same expression she held since Jason’s death. Gabby’s heart hurt for her, but, selfishly, hurt more for herself. That she hadn’t been able to keep things the same between them. Cheryl had been the one to pull away, not Gabby.
There was nothing stopping Cheryl was taking a trip to the Southside to see her. Things didn’t have to change between them. Though from the disgust Cheryl showed while looking over Gabby’s Serpent jacket, Gabby knew she was lying to herself and she had to break that habit sooner than later.
Everything changed.
Gabby studied her former best friend. “Just thought I saw someone I knew.”

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Bonnie lifted her eyebrows, waiting for Ethel to glare at her over the top of her math book. Again.
Ethel clicked her tongue. She made a show of folding the corner of the page she was on. Slowly, she closed the book with a snap, and held it close to her chest. “Are we not going to talk about it?” she asked.
“Talk about what?”
Ethel took a step closer to her friend, lowering her voice. “Talk about the fact that you were busted for trespassing at the Sweetwater River?” Bonnie stared at Ethel, lips parting. “I was covering for you, remember? Imagine my surprise when your parents called mine asking if I was ok. You know. For being in jail?”
“I wasn’t in jail,” Bonnie protested. Ethel scoffed. “I was just stuck in the back of Sheriff Keller’s car until my parents could come get me.”
“Bo.”
“And i wasn’t trespassing. I was on my parents’ boat.”
“Bo!” Ethel hit Bonnie on the forehead with her textbook. “They found you in the river in a canoe. After hours. That’s trespassing.” Bonnie’s shoulders slumped. “And worst of all, you lied to me. You had me cover for your lie, and my parents were terrified thinking I had been arrested. Arrested, Bo! Me! Ethel Muggs!”
“I’m sorry,” Bonnie said quietly. “I just needed to check some things out.”
“Things you can’t tell me?” Ethel asked. “Still?” Bonnie just shrugged her shoulders, shaking her head.  She turned back around to her locker and started shoving her books into her backpack. “I’ve got to study. Don’t bother me, Bo, I need to ace this test.”
Bonnie gave a half smile. “You always ace them, right?” she asked. Her eyes widened at the look of annoyance and frustration that Ethel shot her over her shoulder. “What? You do!”
“I need to keep my grades up even more right now, ok?” Ethel asked. She slammed her locker door shut. “My parents will see I’m still the same Ethel, and will stop worrying so much.” Clutching her backpack tightly in her arms, she hurried down the halls of Riverdale High.
Bonnie watched her go. She barely acknowledged Kevin when he stepped up beside her.
“You know, there are people who get excited about riding around in a cop car,” he commented, watching Ethel’s retreating form, “but it’s got to be getting old for you.” He finally looked at Bonnie. “Right, Bo?”
Bonnie rolled her eyes. “I could say the same for you.” She started following Ethel. After a few steps she turned around to face Kevin. “Thrill’s still kind of there. Especially when he puts on the lights.”
