Jina’s dramas awards 2022

It’s here! I had less time this year to devote to dramas because of a variety of reasons, but I still want to share the love. (Check out my favs from 2020 and from 2021.)

As usual, these are mostly Chinese dramas and they’re typically historical or period costume or VR-historical dramas but I do have a category for modern dramas specifically. Also, this is based on dramas that I finished. So, if I started but didn’t get through it yet, it won’t show up on this list.

A new addition this year: best short drama! With cdrama entertainment really putting more money and time into making their mini dramas, I think they deserve their own category.

best overall drama:

love between fairy and devil: no surprises here. it’s a devil x fairy drama aka brooding man x bright girl dynamic and it’s so so good. it really took all of us by a storm and we enjoyed it so much. the cgi is pretty good, the soundtrack is fantastic, and just everything hits my fangirl’s heart so well.

most delightful/fun drama:

night of love with you (modern short drama): i was seeking more short dramas to watch and am so glad i came across this. it’s funny, it’s well paced for a short drama, the couple’s chemistry is amazing, and their visuals look great too. also, the tinge of tragedy? love it. obsessed.

most impactful drama:

rainless love in a godless land (Taiwanese modern drama, technically aired in 2021 but finished in 2022 so it counts!!): i love this kind of modern fantasy stories and i especially loved that this drama incorporated indigenous beliefs and myths and had all these larger questions. i probably watched this all in like three days (the eps were so long!) and was captivated.

most unexpected drama (aka the dark horse):

sassy beauty: i don’t think i had any specific expectations for this drama, I was just looking for VR-historical drama and came across this. It also happened to have Yan Zidong as the ML, who I adore, so I gave it a chance and I’m so glad I did! Especially letting myself get past the first 4 episodes because the female lead’s growth was so so gooood. and again, the tragedy of it all?? yeah yeah, it’s everything.

drama with the best soundtrack:

love between fairy and devil: do I need to say more? it’s got all the bangers.

best costume/design/set drama:

love in flames of war (republican era): disregarding the story/plot, i really liked how this drama looked. maybe they looked a little too pristine for a republican era? but the male lead’s a warlord and rich and stuff so i didn’t question it too much.

best short drama:

a familiar stranger: cdrama ent is finally putting money and time into short series! this year we really saw an improvement in this genre and several other dramas did really well, but this drama had my heart because of ryan cheng. he’s my boy. but really, this drama had solid acting, story, with strong cinematography and soundtrack. just chef’s kiss.

favorite modern drama:

be my princess: granted, I didn’t watch many this year, but this is the only one I finished and actually spent VIP money to watch the last few episodes. I really adored this drama and the questions it asked and I was pleasantly surprised by this couple pairing.

favorite drama from any year not aired in 2022:

dreaming back to the qing dynasty (2019): I haven’t watched a drama based in qing dynasty (with some time-traveling) in years! I fell in love with so many of the princes but especially wang anyu as 13th prince. it’s the first drama i’ve seen of him and i’ll be keeping an eye out for his future historical/period dramas!

drama with a soft spot in my heart:

lost track of time: i’m obsessed with this drama greatly thanks to jing chao but yeah also obsessed with irony and revenge and the fight against fate and doomed endings. yeah, this drama had me buying VIP. the production and cinematography was just okay but the acting? the tragedy of it all? i’m kissing jing chao.

favorite scene from a drama:

a familiar stranger: this is a random category just so that I can say I absolutely love the fireflies scene. it’s so so good, so soft, so tender. he saved her and then she saved him in the most beautiful way.

Like.

I finally saw the Doctor Who specials! And I've seen a lot of stuff on my dash about the first episode and the beginning of the second because all of the queer things, which! Were great!

But in terms of writing and pacing, I honestly thought the first special was the weakest of the three? Like. It was there to bring Donna Noble back (AS SHE DESERVES), but the other two were just. good episodes.

And I've seen some stuff on my dash about the third episode because NPH which, like, makes sense because NPH but like. Dude was making some legitimate points there.

And the fear of not being able to tell which you is you and which of your friends is your friend and the doppelgangers and the Doctor being open with the Donna who wasn't really Donna and then picking the wrong one and Donna just standing there ready and waiting to die because Donna was already supposed to die in the last episode and just.

The last two were horror episodes, and they were fantastic, and I loved them.

The first episode had some important stuff to it! Very important for cultural reasons!

But man, y'all haven't been talking about the second one enough.

Note: Although I made these bc the og eggs are birth today, I've done at least one hc for each egg! They're a bit limited bc they're based off what I've seen through 3 POVs + osmosis through liveblog, but I included them all nonetheless. :D

He thinks Leo has so much fucking swag. How does a literal egg look so fucking cool like at all times. How does she do it.

Secretly admires the shit out of Dapper. He's fucking brilliant. Hilariously unhinged. Insanely devoted to his collection habits. Adorably takes after Bad in looks and silliness. He's just such a badass little guy.

Pomme his fucking beloved. Brilliant just like her siblings, insanely perceptive, tough as nails yet still soft as flower pedals. He sees huge survivalist potential in her. He wishes she could shed some of the stress she's always seems to be under. He relates to her a bit too much sometimes. He hopes that poor girl gets a break.

He's absolutely gutted he didn't get to know Trump like at all. He saw little to nothing of him. He hopes he's at peace with Maxo.

GOD he wish he got more time with Flippa. She took him out like it was nothing. He would've loved training her alongside her parents. He bets she would've been an awesome pvper one day.

He wishes he could've seen more of Tilin. He more familiar with her than he was Trump but still not enough.

Richarlyson makes it so hard not to pick "favorite eggs" besides his own. Richas is always on some wild ass shit, Phil fucking loves it. That kid's just high on life at like all times. Unreasonably funny on top of it all. God does Phil worry about him though, he's gotten way too into risking his life for the lulz.

Ramon practically feels like a third child to him (sometimes). Much like Dapper, he loves how brilliant he is and how cracked at his craft he is.

Bobby's death absolutely devastated him. He loved that little shit. And he loved how happy he made Roier and Jaiden. Seeing how severely his death broke them made his heart ache. He had nightmares about going through the same thing.

He's DETERMINED to get to know Chunsik further. Timezones are a bitch though. :( But he will be damned if something happens before he can get more familiar.

Empanada is unreasonably cute to him, and he loves seeing her take more and more after Bagi every time he sees her once more. He absolutely loves how close she and all her moms are. He genuinely fears the Pancake Mafia tbh, and he's convinced Empanada is the head.

He adores Sunny. She knows what she wants. They're not afraid to speak their mind as long as they're comfortable. She's silly and playful and sweet. Yet they still have this small, but palpable cool edge to them. Truly one spunky little girl. 😎

Phil is like 90% sure Pepito is just always going thru it, but has a sneaking suspicion that's just how Pepito seems at first glance, and maybe thats just what Pepito WANTS people to think. Either way, Pepito is just such a Creacher and Phil loves it. An absolutely loveable little guy.

He on/off considers commissioning Ramon or Dapper to make bombs to go fuck up a Fed building. He'd let them join him tbh.

He's so insanely afraid of accidentally hurting the eggs, but he'd love to spar with them and teach them more pvp skills so they'd be even better at defending themselves. He's only comfortable doing so with his own eggs.

God, he wants more times where ALL the eggs are together. He loves watching them interact, he loves their dynamics with each other and the chaos that unfolds when they're all in one place.

Phil: I don't want to build things bc technically that's doing the Feds a favor by making the island cooler. So fuck them. // Also Phil: *would build an entire city for these goddamn eggs if it meant they were safe and happy*

you havent really been liveblogging your one piece experience much, but since you seem to be through Alabasta at this i was wondering if youd be willing to share any thoughts about the series so far/your takes on the characters in their original forms?

-luffy is a little gremlin who was fed after midnight but stayed cute. 10000 points in mischief. has THE biggest heart and would die for a stranger if he thought it was a worthy cause. much more intelligent (in an unconventional way) than he's given credit for. figuring out crocodile's weakness almost immediately?? hello??

-i like how all the crew mates have different (but very valuable and nourishing) relationships with each other. usopp n luffy's is very sweet because they're still kids at heart (and probably always will be, at least a little) who live by their imaginations and for fun/joy. zoro washing chopper in the bathhouse. usopp and nami being voices of reason for very different reasons, usopp making her a weapon bc she admitted one of her weaknesses to him. nami's love for luffy coming out in concern and sternness because she knows what he's capable of but also how hard he can fall

-some of the emotional moments that affected me the most; nami getting a tattoo for belle mere, nokijo, and genzo. pell sacrificing his life for alabasta and flying the bomb into the sky. sanji n zeff's relationship.

-klahadore is the biggest lil bitch thus far. but shout out to his kitty cat crew for supporting him and trying not to deadname him

-really liked the mihawk fight bc even tho zoro got WHOOPED mihawk was clearly impressed, and let him live for a reason. he also said after watching luffy and zoro together that they were a good team. which.

-luffy and zoro making each other better and worse (depending on how u look at it) and the crew just having to accept that "ok yah. that's their relationship. they're crazy bastards who enable each other and they're dreams are entwined."

-zoro being a secret goofball. I could go on about it. but one of my favorite small moments was when he told the usopp pirates that they were cannibals and ate usopp

-nami has such big dreams but she's so scared to get her heartbroken again. she lost her mom, she thought she lost her town and sister when she went along with arlong..... everything is a defense mechanism. she's a survivor. and she's so hurt. but everyday, from the crew's love to luffy's kindness, she's learning to accept that the world isn't that bleak. that good people exist

-ace's tattoo. um. JUMPSCARE. but he is neat and loves luffy lots

-tony tony chopper I would die for u. kureha is an icon and now I totally understand why people want jamie lee curtis to play her

-i'm glad that luffy n co were able to heal the giants relationship on little garden and now they're broskis who can fight n drink together without worrying about the whole "TO DEATH!!!" thing. zoro trying to chop off his legs and then posing so that he'd look cool if he died is another notable highlight from that arc

-princess vivi and nami. I know what u are. but in all seriousness she was just sixteen and infiltrated a secret assassin organization for her kingdom!!! I love that she had igaram pose for her so she could say goodbye to the strawhat crew properly

-there's just so many good people trying to do the right thing in the face of massive adversity. no matter what the odds, they'll fight to their last breath for what they believe in. and if luffy's there, he'll make sure they don't have to (die, that is)

-luffy managing to befriend the weirdest animals that want to kill him and them eventually saving him (the lapins and the kung fu dungongs)

-luffy asking zoro to save smoker's life because he couldn't swim, and smoker letting luffy go instead of arresting him so he could try and save alabasta

-sanji smoking cigarettes in the middle of a fight and constantly wearing a suit for Aesthetics

-mihawk hunting down the red haired pirates in his coffin throne boat just to show shanks the bounty on luffy's head (also way to go bestie getting it up from 30 million to 100 million in like two weeks)

-zoro sleeping everywhere but mostly near the rest of the crew so he can eavesdrop / be close to them

-the straw hat crew being a bunch of wild animal ragers and turning any event into a PARTAAYYYYY

Liveblog - Dofus, livre 1 : Julith [PART 5]

Forever obsessed with the way ecaflips can drink both using their tongue and just chugging liquids. Did he do this because he's nervous? Is he feeling cute? Am I insane?

One may say "Kerubim didn't tell anything was amiss to Joris because he didn't know it would be Julith", but tbh, the Ebony Dofus being stolen puts Joris in danger simply by the virtue of their connection, and Kerubim himself knows that.

He should have thought this through better. However, as we have established in the last 32498234 posts, he is stupid.

(I like to think that he went here really hoping that Bakara would say "some random rogues left with the ebony dofus LOL XD. Anyway yeah I still don't want Joris to know anything about his family or talk to me, godspeed on lying to him more, epic <3")

So real.

Something I didn't comment on is that Bakara is quite cold during this exchange: personally, she has no stake here. Unlike Kerubim, it's not like someone she loves might die or get hurt, — 10 years too late to care about that.

I think she is just quietly simmering with rage and trying not to kill half the patrons at this beautiful bar full of delicious alcohol.

I think Bakara is both worried that Kerubim told Joris nothing (meaning that the boy is in danger without knowing it (HE IS)) and that Kerubim might have told him something (which would mean that she would have to interact with him. They did have an agreement for a reason, after all...)

I think it's cool if she has conflicting priorities like that, though I know that the canonical reason behind that line is probably the first one.

Either way, this level of danger is enough for Kerubim to call off their agreement immediately.

Kerubim has 200000 different reasons to be deathly depressed about having to tell Joris about his family, but some of them are:

He beat his mother to near death and assumed she was dead for 10 years.

Joris's biological father is cooler than him, and he will lose the cool dad Olympics.

He doesn't want Joris to be saddled with this bullshit.

Joris will learn that all this time he had an aunt who wanted nothing to do with him because, to her, he is a spawn of her brother's murderer.

His mother is called "The Butcher of Brakmar"

His father is famous and illustrious and legendary.

Joris will be unhappy about being lied to for the past 10 years, including now, in a city that has a huge ass memorial to Jahash.

No matter how hard he gives, it seems like all Kerubim does is take. I think that's a pretty hard thing to realize about one's own parent.

Like for the past 10 years all he does is give, give, give, to a guy who cares sooooo much that once he almost left him without fingers by slamming a chest shut while Joris was holding it. The guy who was still treating and touching him like an infant when he was 7 years old.

That's when the darkness began, followers. He HATES Kerubim for this.

And I mean this unironically! When you're mad at someone you love, it can turn into a big case of "that bitch eating crackers syndome", where you remember every single slightly annoying thing they've ever done, — and it all suddenly seems like Proof of Irredeemable Evil on their part.

And it is kinda complicated because Joris does have a right to feel that way about Kerubim. In microcosm, most of the things he's done are pretty simple, — but it's 10 years of nothing but these small little fuck-ups with major fuck-ups in-between.

Some may say "noo" to this but, personally, I think Joris is based. He's growing a backbone.

I think it's likely that Indie was a stricter parent than Kerubim, and due to their similarities, she assumes that Kerubim will punish Joris. (Make him stand in a corner? Make him eat veggies? Make him shower? Who even knows.)

Jokes on her, Joris has likely not seen a single disciplinary action in his entire life, baybee.

seems gotchard might not end up being much of a liveblog show for me but pretty good ep this week i thought...

the scene where rinne suddenly decides to start walking home with hotarou bc spanner-kun is creeping behind her had me like damn... the jarring realism of that. gets perved on by some freak rando, then rescued by spanner who acts like a white knight but clearly has some other ulterior motive involved in it. strange men interact with her with no regard for her feelings meanwhile she's depressed asf and misses being a kid when she was happy and didn't have to think about all this shit.

come to kamen rider gotchard for the cute card creatures stay for the weirdly on point depiction of the teen girl experience? but she finally gets to be a little happy too at the end so that's good. rinne-chan admitting she has a friend incident leaves the audience going 🥺

Season 2, Episode 8 Post-blog:

So I did not liveblog this episode since I had friends over to do a watch party, but here's everything I remembered that I wanted to talk about!

As far as I can tell, the two Seanchan sul'dam that got collared are not going to be found with the collar on them. (Not sure if Renna is dead or if Egwene chose to uncollar her, but either way she's not chained up in a basement with the collar on waiting to be discovered by her peers.) I was thinking at first that this had major implications for the rest of the Seanchan storyline. But really, it only has implications for Suroth, since in the books Suroth (and Alwhin, who is already her Voice in the show) sit on the information until Egeanin discovers it separately. Egeanin can still be the first Seanchan to know and do anything about it. I do think this lack of a dangling thread, Suroth's ship being blown up, and the way it's hard to get actors to come back seasons later make it more likely we've seen the last of Suroth. I would be happy to eat my words, though! Also, Egwene, Nyneave, and Elayne all know you can collar a sul'dam, and possibly Mat, Rand, and Perrin will soon as well if anyone remembers to communicate this information, so any one of them could spill the beans.

Major props to whoever hypothesized that Uno would be a Hero of the Horn; not sure if he's implied to be Gaidal Cain or not (possibly not? there was a blink-and-I-missed it moment of PDA between Birgitte and somebody but I am not sure if it was Uno or not).

I did not anticipate Mat making an ashandarai out of household objects and the dagger and I am EXTREMELY PROUD of him. Also proud of him for escaping traps! My boy is really coming into his own! I also really appreciate the classic blunder of doing the same thing to Mat again but worse- the Dark does not understand that my boy thrives when you do that. He solves his problems by escalating them in intensity or magnitude. You can only put him in a room with drugs once, if you put him in a room with drugs again he will use them in an unconventional manner to escape and also destroy his enemies.

Also props to whoever guessed that the Horn would trigger memories for Mat- I'm intrigued by where they are going with this. I hope it's not precluding the Aelfinn and Eelfinn, but given all the hanging foreshadowing, the makeshift ashandarai, and Lanfear yeeting Moiraine out of the waygate doorway, I don't really think they'd cut the Eelfinn. It's the Aelfinn that seem slightly less like a sure thing, and I'm going to be a little on edge until Mat gets the DotNM prophecy somehow. I don't think they'd cut the problematic fave; it's a juicy part, idk what Mat would even do if he weren't babysitting the Seanchan in the later plot, and they've been doing great with the 'you're wrong but I see where you're coming from' characters. But they've either cut or significantly changed the Moiraine/Thom relationship in the show, and the two relationships are kind of linked in my head for thematic reasons. I'm probably overthinking it though.

Loved that Egwene got to face off against Ishamael! Loved Egwene all the time forever actually. I was also entertained that Egwene had like one semester of Magic College and used it to school the Seanchan on linking mechanics. She's right that the sul'dam don't know how to link properly and are weak little babies when it comes to channeling, and she should say it.

Nyneave and Elayne were great, as usual- very impressed with Elayne, who is finally living all her Battle Queen fantasies and is being very brave about how much they suck, actually. Nyneave is in for some self-loathing next season though, I'm afraid. I love that Rand and Elayne still get to have a meet-cute when she's treating his wounds. :P

I was very happy for Tumblr User Moghedien that we got to see Forsaken Moghedien. She's offputting and very gay, just like I imagined!

very first thought of the new season: i want a doll of clawdeens wereruler armor so bad. also im excited for more worldbuilding lore stuff, and more varied werecreature designs! part of me gets a little irked sometimes that there seems to be disproportionate attention payed to werecreatures and the inner workings of their society over other monster species, but i cannot deny, i love a funny lil furry.

im really interested in this developing plotline about draculaura being pressured to be like the model of Good Witchcraft. it works well with her established character and arc of like trying to live up to her fathers reputation and status in the monster world. poor girl never seems to be able to just fucking relax.

skelita! i love that shes trying out witchcraft, and the art-based magic is a fun angle too! i can totally see where this is going tho. drac is super serious about magic because theres all this pressure on her while skelita is just trying it out in a casual way so theyre at odds. its an interesting dilemma because i can def see both sides.

im really happy the writing seems like empathetic to both positions here. skelita deserves to try magic her way on her own terms, but its also totally understandable draculaura would feel protective over witchcraft when any misuse of it is ultimately going to reflect on her since she was the one working to legitimize it. respectability is a double edged sword fr!

"yuri theory: a workbook": another one i've been looking forward to reading for so long! and. help the intro is just all the thoughts i had reading the class S essay lol. anyway i really love the presentation of this so much. the content is great too but the workbook structure is sooo fun. tshirt never disappoints. absenting yourself is such a key dimension that i think is missing from a lot of analysis about desire/why do people like X or Y

"Jealousy and the Dream of Innocence": oops maybe i shouldn't have read this since i was technically planning on watching every movie mentioned here. oh well i'm sure it's fine. anyway. a good essay, one i don't have as much to say about because i haven't seen any of the relevant material. but that shuzo oshimi quote gets me every time man...

"Wlw genderswaps and the elusive promised land of toxic yuri": sooo true the evil evil phenomenon of genderswapped yaoi where the characters aren't even remotely the same anymore. though i Will say that i've thought a lot about what i can only term "straight yuri" where there is no pretense at all about caring about the f/f ship, or perhaps even the original m/m ship, and the entire point seems just to have an excuse to draw cute, fashionable girls standing next to each other. this to me is somehow different than, for example, individual genderswaps that are focused on the character's, well, character (even if they usually somehow botch it completely). my thoughts on this have been very slowly simmering for a while but i don't have anything decent to share yet. time will tell

Hazbin Episode 1 Liveblog

In order to avoid this post getting Way Too Long, I'm going to make one post for episode one, and one for episode two!

I will say, I'm kinda sad we don't have a 'proper' theme song/intro, just the little jingle :( I do get it, but ah well.

The voices are definitely going to take a bit of adjustment. It's probably because I've rewatched the pilot a zillion times, though.

I DO really love Keith David as Husk right away, he suits the role perfectly.

The animation seems a bit... overacted? I've noticed it all along but with Vaggie in the scene where she talks about making a new commercial especially. It sort of felt like they wanted to match the pilot's very snappy energy but weren't quite sure how, so everybody makes kind of... aimless motioning instead of moving with purpose, if it makes sense? It feels more like 'moving body parts for the sake of moving things' over 'moving with intent'. It's sort of awkward and distracting. The shifting proportions don't really help, but I just know people are going to be Fucking Annoying about that when it's unfortunately part of the package of making a whole season at once by a regular animation studio.

Oh yeah, Blake's perfect for Angel, lmao. It was more of a change than I expected from the few lines we'd gotten since they sounded more like the original, but he's got the energy.

Charlie didn't know Adam ran the angel army? That seems like the kind of thing she should have known. I wonder if she was relatively sheltered growing up.

'Call me dickmaster' why do I get the feeling the Chaz fans will like him, lmfao.

Since I'm on Adam though, another little groan to myself about the lack of fat characters in the hellaverse that aren't either gross stereotypes or background characters. Adam falls into the misogynist type, (like, the 'redditor', you know the one, just sort of mixed with a sleazy rockstar) Mammon's literally Greed and a talentless abuser, the lady at the pound was gross/uncaring and ugly, and I still think the Nurse was the only one that really broke the pattern and I've seen approximately one piece of fanart or mention of her ever (despite her clearly-developed positive relationship with Barbie!) and it was porn. I'm allowed to bitch on this after people were so fucking annoying about how wanting Bee to be fat was wanting her to be a 'gross ugly blob' and then saying other people were being fatphobic for pointing out everybody's skinny. Somehow. Anyway.

Well, at least they got the vagina joke out of the way early.

I love how his deal isn't for anything that would genuinely screw Vaggie over, he's just pissed they want him to deal with TV.

The fact that the pilot's still 'soft canon' makes sense with how Angel just immediately starts admiring his new clothes without any surprise, since it's happened before. Also, Niffty with the Marilyn pose is cute.

Oh, I'm definitely going to like Lute. I still like my idea she used to be close to Vaggie but when Vaggie was cast down, she stuck tighter to the rules.

Adam's song is fun!

So season 1 takes place over the course of six months? Huh. I'm guessing we'll have some time skips if we only have eight episodes.

I wonder what the Heaven Embassy is for? I can't imagine it's only for meetings like that considering there's couches in the lobby and stuff. Can sinners communicate with loved ones in heaven or vice versa, maybe, just using the holograms?

Oh my god the Katie voice IS basically just Brandon's Bryce voice. Amazing.

Filoni I love the messy prickly falling out between Ahsoka and Sabine but I would really like... ONE paragraph of exposition about why Sabine went to Ahsoka and asked to be trained, or however that happened.

I mean I know I can inference that she was desperate to feel closer to Kanan and Ezra and mourning them and trying to be the hero Lothal needed and worked up in her feelings about, "If Ezra's not here to be Lothal's Jedi I have to be." but the general audience might need some help.

OH GOSH THAT LITTLE SWALLOW AS SHE TAKES HER SABER AGAIN AND LOOKS AT IT.

So I'm confused is it that the New Republic was lazy and/or too trusting/too willing to give ex-Imperials another chance just to keep some kind of order and peace and infrastructure in place or are they just that bad at uncovering spies?

Because there is a good point that not everyone who worked for the machine of the Empire has to be rooted out and displaced from their jobs and livelihoods, that just builds resentment, makes it easier for the Imperial Remnant to gain support.

At the same time though I feel like this is tying into the general New Canon "The New Republic is incompetent." trend that I'm not a fan of.

But to connect to OTHER galaxies you either needed a plot device energy source called a ZPM or YOU HAD TO BUILD A REALLY REALLY BIG HUGE HONKING STARGATE.)

Ohhhhhhhhhhh they are MAKING A SHIP CAPABLE OF EXITING THE GALAXY I WAS RIGHT.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE THAT WAS A RUSH.

I am very nicely happy with how things are unfolding, aside from a few nitpicks here and there about the worldbuilding and backstory that's been kept from us. (Ahsoka and Sabine's whole... everything.)

But it does not look like Sabine is Force Sensitive, which I'm glad about. I've seen a couple people salty about her being a Jedi and honestly between the two options of "Make her Sensitive and retcon large parts of Rebels" or "It's a new era, there are No More Rules, we can't be picky about who we take on as Jedi so sure let's have a non-Sensitive, Ahsoka maybe thought it was safer that way anyway", I know which one I'm picking.

The whole plot with the celestial navigation is fascinating. I need to study screencaps of the starmap and the end credits for clues because WOAH BOY DID I NOT EXPECT EXPANDING BEYOND THE GFFA.

Ezra baby come hoooooooooome. :(((( Your girl misses you.

Continuing to explore the east side of Rivington. Park-ish sort of area which looks like it was probably once nice but is now full of dead chickens.

Promising.

There's a cute-looking couple having a picnic up here though:

"Ummm, can I help you? This is a *private* picnic."

You know what, valid - privacy kind of seems like it's hard to come by around here.

Surprisingly enough for an RPG, no one around here really seems to want to tell me about their problems and have me solve them; all the refugees just want to complain, which is understandable but does not make for compelling liveblogging.

However, further up from them is an area labeled "Gur Camp." So now we're definitely going to get some plot development.8

We've encountered a Gur once before - the monster hunter that Cazador sent after Astarion, who is actually here now (the guy in the center facing the fire). It's probably a good thing Astarion isn't here, because he definitely mentioned having a grudge against Gur in general, since a group of them were the folks that beat him within an inch of his life and caused him to be vampirized originally.

However, these Gur, it seems, are NOT currently hired by Cazador, since one of them says this:

!!! Interesting.

Their other ambient dialogue talks about how a) they want to kill the vampires and b) their numbers as a people have diminished considerably.

Hector is pretty cautious going into this because he doesn't want to do anything that's going to make trouble for Astarion, but he wanders on in to say hello and see if he can pick up some information.

One of the Gur is reciting some sort of spell over their fire pit. "Rech te i hathran roost."

Gandrel, the Gur we met before, recognizes us! "My friend from the hag swamp? You are a bright light on a dark day."

It's a more friendly greeting than Hector was necessarily expecting. "Why, what happened?"

"We underestimated an enemy. Much like I underestimated you and your vampiric companion."

Hector stiffens, immediately ready to move in any direction, to attack or defend, but the monster hunter just smiles. "Oh, yes. I know you hid him from me. But this is not the moment to discuss it. This is about the dead, not the undead."

(This is making me feel bad about the other two active playthroughs I have where this guy is super dead back in the hag swamp. D: )

"Frey vald isk durovna," the woman by the fire intones. "Frey vald isk ablast."

Hector listens intently, but it's no language he recognizes.

"Our tribe left camp on a rescue mission," Gandrel says, the smile fading from his face. "Only Ulma and those you see here returned."

Hector's eyes narrow in sympathy. "Did they save whoever they set out to rescue?"

Gandrel frowns, his gaze falling. "They could not." He hesitates. "I will say no more. It is not my tale to tell."

The woman at the fire stirs, her eyes opening, and Hector is struck by the sharp grief in her gaze as she turns towards them.

"No," she says. "That shame is mine alone."

"I thought I knew the faces of all your friends, Gandrel. But this one is new to me."

Hector straightens respectfully, as he can tell this woman is some sort of authority figure here, and inclines his head in a polite half-bow. "I'm Hector Carlisle," he says.

"A friend met on the road, my lady," Gandrel explains. "I told you of the stranger in the swamp? They killed not only that fen's hag, but also the undying General Thorm, if the rumors are true."

The Gur leader looks at him with interest.

"Two fine trophies," she says thoughtfully. "Perhaps I can interest you in a third."

Hector frowns slightly. [MONK] "I take no pride in killing, nor trophies from it," he says gravely. "Sometimes it simply must be done." He has already said on more than one occasion that he isn't interested in being memorialized as a hero; even being introduced reverentially for those he has killed makes him feel a little uncomfortable.

The woman smiles slightly, seeming to approve of this attitude. "It is a solemn task," she agrees. "One this city forces us to undertake time and again." The smile fades again, the grief taking control almost at once. "Baldur's Gate is haunted by many things, but one of its most insidious is the vampire Cazador. For years, his foul spawn have stolen away innocents at night, whisking them back to his palace. Recently, they struck our camp."

Rage mingles with the grief, both helpless. "They took our children," she says hoarsely. "Every last one - our whole future."

Hector draws a sudden sharp breath in. His eyes flick to his companions; he sees his dismay reflected in their expressions. They already hated Cazador for what has been done to Astarion; they were already ready to hunt him down so that their friend could be fully free. But this goes even further beyond that. Children taken into that monster's grasp?

"We are monster hunters all," Gandrel says with an air of deep shame. "Our purpose is to kill beasts like these. But in our haste to save our little ones, we were rash. We charged straight into an ambush."

"They tore us to pieces," the leader says softly. "Vampire spawn and werewolves. I have never seen a vampire's lair so heavily guarded. What's left of my tribe is wounded and broken. We cannot stand against him to save our children." She stares at him, pleading, desperate. "But perhaps the slayer of Ketheric could?"

"I'll do whatever I can," Hector says immediately, with no hesitation.

She nods and he can see some hope come back into her expression, warming it considerably. "If you do this, our entire tribe will be in your debt. On our honor, it will be repaid. May the gods keep you and damn your enemies."

Hector needs no reward, to be honest. This is horrible to hear about and he is more than ready to make Cazador answer for all the people he's hurt.
