New Flash Fiction: "TikToktastrophe" in Short Beasts
Short Beasts is a seriously selective online flash fiction literary magazine that publishes roughly four times a year, so I'm elated the editors chose to include my piece, "TikToktastrophe." The story, written during NaNoWriMo 2022, investigates the intersection of family, self-esteem, and social media.

Thrilled to be co-editing @expositionreview again this year with @mellindah and a rockstar lineup veteran readers and fresh eyes! Submissions are open now! bit.ly/ExpoLines 👩‍💻 #editorslife #litmag Posted @withrepost • @expositionreview We are beyond excited to introduce you to the editorial team for our #Lines issue. We thrilled that dedicated founding editors are playing familiar roles, including @annleee and @mellindah again leading as Co-EiCs and @willwriteforchai and Lauren Gorski continuing with the #FlashFiction and #Film & #Comics sections we introduced in our #Flux issue. But we’ve made a few changes this year. We divided #Fiction between two editors, and section editor newbies @kel_esparza001 and @shzehui are on the #masthead. #Flux Fiction Editor @carnageetclemency has moved into #Poetry, with CD Eskilson focusing on their Editorial Board role. Likewise @lilrensing is focusing on her board role, and little things like our #Transposition #podcast and getting contributors paid as treasurer, while former #ExpoIntern Krista Nave picks up Laura’s #StageandScreen role. #BTS, we’re also excited to welcome reigning #Nonfiction Editor Ramona Pilar to the Editorial Board! This all-star team can’t wait to read/see your work. Send it to us here: bit.ly/ExpoLines. #ExpoReview #callforsubmissions #literaryjournal https://www.instagram.com/p/CitutpKrbo9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A First Glimps of Tagaytay
The morning was still young, the sun just beginning to cast its golden rays over the bustling city of Manila. The air was thick with anticipation, a palpable sense of adventure as we prepared for our journey. Our destination was Tagaytay, a city known for its breathtaking views and cooler climate, a stark contrast to the sweltering heat and urban sprawl of Manila.
As we drove down the South Luzon Expressway, the urban jungle gradually gave way to a more rural landscape. The towering buildings were replaced by lush green fields, the blaring horns by the chirping of birds. The air grew cooler, a refreshing change from the stifling city heat.
The ascent to Tagaytay was a journey in itself. The road wound its way up the mountain, each turn revealing a new, more stunning view. But nothing could have prepared me for the moment when Tagaytay unveiled itself in all its glory.
As we crested the hill, the city of Tagaytay stretched out before us. Nestled on a ridge overlooking Taal Lake, the view was nothing short of breathtaking. The blue expanse of the lake, the silhouette of the Taal Volcano in the distance, and the lush greenery that surrounded it all combined to create a panorama that was almost surreal in its beauty.
But it wasn't just the physical beauty of the place that struck me. It was the sense of tranquility, the peace that seemed to permeate the very air. The city, despite its popularity as a tourist destination, had retained its charm. The locals went about their day, their faces reflecting the contentment that comes from living in such a beautiful place.
I remember standing there, taking in the view, the cool breeze gently tousling my hair. It felt like time stood still, the moment etched into my memory. It was a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world, often just a short drive away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
That first view of Tagaytay was more than just a beautiful sight. It was an experience, a moment of connection with nature that left a lasting impression. It was a reminder of the simple pleasures in life - a cool breeze, a stunning view, a moment of peace amidst the chaos of daily life. And it is these moments that make life truly beautiful.
